Web Mail Domain Name

Hi,
I have a mac mini at home running OS X Server 10.4.9 and use it primarily as a web server.
I previously had the domain name of abcdef.net but have recently changed it to abcdef.co.uk.
I've changed the settings and, as far as Mail on OS X goes, everthing works fine with the new domain name.
Webmail also appeared to also be working fine until I realised sending does not work. After I interrogated the server's logs I noticed Webmail is is still using the old @abcdef.net domain name.
How do I change the domain name in webmail ?
Many thanks in advance.

You change the domain in SquirrelMail by issueing:
sudo /etc/squirrelmail/config/conf.pl
Choose: "2. Server Settings"
Then, "1. Domain"

  • Changing mail domain name OCS 10.1.2

I can't receive mail in OCS and think I need to alter my domain name so it will work on this test box and not interfere with the mail to our main campus domain mailserver.
I downloaded the 10.1.2 Linux software and installed for a trial demo against other groupware here. I put in the wrong mail domain and think I need to change it. I have found the blurb in the documentation where it tells how to do it, but I'm not sure what userid to use to let me administer e-mail. This is the doc that points me to OCS Webmail from the OCS Mail Administrator's Guide, chapter 2...
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25553_01/mail.1012/b25499/objects.htm#BABEAGIJ
This is the blurb that it points to about OCS Webmail
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25553_01/mail.1012/b25499/intro.htm#BHCHCGJJ
The two lines that give the URL don't seem to work in my installation. Is it an OCS problem or is my installation screwed up? I don't see how it could be.
    http://host_name:port/pls/portal
    http://host_name:port/um
My Web Cache Administrator Port is 9400 according to portlist.ini file. Going to http://host_name:9400 works fine. When I try to add /pls/portal or /um, it bombs.
I found that I could use ias_admin to login to OEM AS Control (port 1810) and work my way through the application to the component list and when I click on the Administer button next to Mail, I have no idea what userid to use to administer it.
So I either need to know what userid works to administer Mail, or I need to know how to run Webmail and then what userid to use for that as well.
Thank you to anybody who can help.

  • Web site domain name issue

I upgraded to a new version of iweb and had to re-configure my site. The name of the site was the same except that I capitalized the first letter in my first and last name. Now I have two sites. One has my old information and one has the updated information. Does anyone know how I can delete the old site?

    I don't see why not
In case you are hoping to have other people's bookmarks keep working or something - your old links won't work because of the different publish location for iWeb '08

  • Changing MobileMe Accounts for Domain Name

Need some verification on this procedure before I mess up my web page.
I have a Web site Domain Name with GoDaddy using my son's Mobileme account. I want to change the Domain name to my mobileme account.
My plan is to remove the domain name on my son's Personal Domain and then adding it to my Personal Domain on my Mobileme Account.
Is this all I have to do? No changes to the GoDaddy account?

I completed the switch from one MM account to the other with no problem. Just removed the site from one & added it to the other & everything worked great.

  • Domain names with iWeb

I know there has been a lot of discussion on this topic, but I haven't seen anything that answers my more basic questions. I have a .Mac site and would like to give it a personal domain name. I am handy with my .Mac site but know nothing about web pages, domain names etc and how they function (thus the beauty of .Mac that does the work for me). Any help with the following questions would be greatly appreciated. Please keep responses somewhat simple so I can start to understand...
1- If I register a domain name and forward it to my .mac site, what exactly is happening. For example, if I get a name from xyz.com that offers me a domain name, web space, email etc, and I use this name for my .mac site, is anything actually hosted by the xyz.com site? Make sense? All I want is the name. I don't plan to use any of the other services so I want to buy the smallest package. If this package only offers 75 MB of storage, but my .Mac site has more than that on it currently, will this cause a problem? Or, am I just simply slapping on the name and continuing to use all the .Mac functions regardless of the domain name's restrictions. Hope I was clear...
2- Where should I get my domain name? GoDaddy, A Small Orange....?
I guess that is it for now. I really want to know if I will need to change the way I do things, manage storage etc if I get a personal domain name, or is it business as usuall with a new name?
Thanks in advance for your help. Nick

    Hi Elmeroguero,
If you buy a domain name at GoDaddy say elmeroguero.com for 10$/yr you then will be able to access the site you publish on .mac by entering elmeroguero.com.
EVERYTHING ELSE is business as usual. You publish your website by hitting publish button in iWeb and so on just as you did until now. All your pages are stored on .Mac and so on. The only thing changing is how you can access your website from browser (nevertheless you will also still be able to access your website typing the web.mac.com/username/ address).
    Regards,
    Cédric
(Difference between WebForward, WebForward with cloaking and CNAME:
-WebForward: after you typed elmeroguero.com in the browser you get forwarded to web.mac.com/username/ and web.mac.com/username/ will display in the browser
-WebForward with Cloaking: after you typed elmeroguero.com in the browser elmeroguero.com will display in the browser and don't change while people browse through your website
-CNAME elmeroguero.com will display instead of web.mac.com/username/ and while browsing through your website it will look like elmeroguero.com/sitename/nameofpagepeoplelookatnow.html)

  • Question about Mail app and domain name please help

    Hi,
I wasn't sure where to post this question so figured this would be the best area. I have a website which uses bluehost as it's web hoster. My email is set up through them, such as [email protected]
In my Mail app, I have the POP thing set up so when ever someone emails me it goes right to the Mail app. It works great for my personal computer, but when I go to work and go on other computers is where the problem is.
When I am on a random computer at work, I have to sign onto my webhosting site and then use squirrel mail. It is quite a hastle and is not the best. I would love to use gmail, but still keep my domain name I have.
One co-worker mentioned just forwarding all my [email protected] emails to my new gmail email. There are issue's with doing this because if I'm at work and email someone with gmail it will use that email address. Also, I want to be able to read all my sent messages from any computer including the sent messages that were within my Mail app. Is this possible?
Besides forwarding is there a better solution? It is sort of hard to explain. Basically I want my [email protected] address to be run through gmail, be able to access on any computer, have it be the only address in my mail app, and most importantly have the sent messages from mail app to be able to be read on all computers.
I think gmail lets you make a domain name email, without gmail being included at the end. But I already have the email address made...am I able to just swap it? And keep all my mail inbox info?
What's the best sollution for my problem?
    Thanks

You would need to login to your web mail account to reply so that the email came from "[email protected]"
I try to get a gmail address that is close to the domain name like - [email protected] - so that I don't have to bother opening web mail as it is a pain.
I forward to Gmail and then Mac Mail because their spam blocker is the best.
A lot of web mail addresses bounce mail because the capacity is limited and the owners don't go into their control panel to launch their web mail and clear out the old stuff. Lawyers, in particular, are famous for this. For this reason I don't set web mail to keep a copy of the forwarded mail. If my web mail gets full of spam and they start bouncing then its not my problem!

  • Already created domain names able to use Mail?

    Hi all,
I'm having some trouble figuring out whether it is possible to use a domain hosted by a different company, with Mail on OS X Sever (Leopard).
I currently have a domain name with 1and1 which deals with both web hosting and also email. However, I've not been able to cofigure the name to use the server mail settings.
I have a DNS on my server of server.bronowskiproductions.com and a domain of bronowski-productions.com. Is there a way that I can reconcile these two so my bronowski-productions.com domain can be pointed to the server DNS?
I'm fairly new to mail servers, so any thoughts would be greatly appriciated!
    Thanks!
    Oli

Your server can host hundreds and thousands of domains (although you probably wouldn't do it, because you as a human would have a hard time keeping track of everything). So, the domain bronowski-productions.com can be hosted on "server.bronowskiproductions.com".
It's like "server.bronowskiproductions.com" is the post office (MX server) and "bronowski-productions.com" is a wing in the building where there are post office boxs for Adam, Bobby, Charlie, etc. You can add as many wings (mail domains) as you like to the building (host).
You just need to tell the DNS server at 1&1, that "bronowski-productions.com" is a hosted at "server.bronowskiproductions.com" (after you register for bronowskiproductions.com).

  • Mail server config inconsistent when host name differs from domain name

    Hi,
I've installed Leopard server on host server.example.com but want to server email for example.com the host name for incoming mail should be mx01.example.com. DNS is setup properly resolving server.example.com and mx01.example.com (both forward and reverse, mx01 having a separate IP) and mx01.example.com is set as MX for example.com. Both IPs are routed to the internal server by the firewall.
In Server Admin, server.example.com is set as computer name (also resolved to the proper internal IP by our internal DNS), and in mail settings -> General, domain name is set to example.com and host name to mx01.example.com (so that the mail server identifies itself properly when connected on port 25).
Normal mail traffic works perfectly: Users can send and receive mail from/to addresses like <user_shortname>@example.com. I've got problems with mailing lists, though:
First, group based mailing lists (for groups created in Workgroup Manager) have the wrong addresses: <group_shortname>@server.example.com. Those addresses are linked when you view the croup in Directory.app. You can send mails to eg [email protected] when connecting to the server via telnet on port 25, but get an error email ([email protected]>: mail for server.example.com loops back to myself, Reporting-MTA: mx01.example.com) back.
Second, mailman based mailing lists also have the wrong addresses: <listname>@server.example.com and at the bottom of the mails received from the lists, there are also links to the lists web page with the url mx01.example.com instead of the host's name server.example.com.
mx01 should only be used by incoming SMTP, but if this isn't possible, I could revert to using server.example.com for the MX record as well. But the email addresses should definitely use the domain name and not the full server name as domain part. This is a typical email server setup and I can't understand why leopard server handles this differently. Does anyone have a workaround for this or could tell me how to setup an email system properly?
    Thanks a lot in advance!!
    Cheers, Thomas

Well, you pointed me into the right direction: Changing the mail server's host name helped a bit. I just dumped the name mx01.example.org. The host is called server.example.org and in mail settings, the domain name is set to example.org while the host name is set to server.example.com. The MX record will have to point to server.example.org, then.
The server now accepts emails to group based mailing lists à la <group_shortname>@example.org. In Directory.app, the link the the group's mailing list still opens a new Mail to <group_shortname>@server.example.org, though.
For mailman based mailing lists, the link to the list's listinfo page in the bottom of emails received from the list is now correctly pointing to server.example.org. The list's address shown there still is <list_name>@server.example.org.

  • Is it possible to restrict the ability to e-mail a pdf outside a specific domain name?

    Hello,
I am trying to find a solution to a friends problem.  She has a quarterly publication that she sends out to big banks and financial institutions.  Recently she has had some problems with press leaks.  I am trying to find some security options for her however the task is difficult. Because these institutions have firewalls I am not sure encrypting or tracking is the right answer because the publication might not make it through. She wants users to be able to print the publication because many of the readers are older and prefer to read during their commute and at home.  Essentially I am looking for any ways to make readers think twice about sharing the information. I thought if I could restrict e-mail to a specific domain name that would help this way users can only e-mail within their specific company.  If any one has any suggestions please feel free to share.

Thank you Todd, I was able to get it to work but I do have a few more questions...
    1) When I tested this, at the top of the message, before any of the text I created, this showed up: This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------040406040801080102080500 Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
    2) After the signature line, this showed up: --------------040406040801080102080500 Content-Type: image/jpeg Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-ID: /9j/4AAQSkZJRgABAQEAYABgAAD/4QAiRXhpZgAATU0AKgAAAAgAAQESAAMAAAABAAEAAAAA AAD/2wBDAAIBAQIBAQICAgICAgICAwUDAwMDAwYEBAMFBwYHBwcGBwcICQsJCAgKCAcHCg0K CgsMDAwMBwkODw0MDgsMDAz/2wBDAQICAgMDAwYDAwYMCAcIDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwM DAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAz/wAARCAC5ApUDASIAAhEBAxEB/8QA HwAAAQUBAQEBAQEAAAAAAAAAAAECAwQFBgcICQoL/8QAtRAAAgEDAwIEAwUFBAQAAAF9AQID AAQRBRIhMUEGE1FhByJxFDKBkaEII0KxwRVS0fAkM2JyggkKFhcYGRolJicoKSo0NTY3ODk6 Q0RFRkdISUpTVFVWV1hZWmNkZWZnaGlqc3R1dnd4eXqDhIWGh4iJipKTlJWWl5iZmqKjpKWm p6ipqrKztLW2t7i5usLDxMXGx8jJytLT1NXW19jZ2uHi4+Tl5ufo6erx8vP09fb3+Pn6/
(It was actually much longer than that)
Is there anyway that I can get that to go away? I obviously would prefer a nice, cleanly formatted e-mail to be sent just like I would send if I were creating it on the spot.
    Thanks,
    Evan

  • Domain name/"primary DNS" name/mail host name/mail server name/mx name

    Hi,
I have registered my domain name (N.com) with an external dns server and created an MX record (mail.N.com) for it as well. My server sits behind a router and internet traffic is port(80)-forwarded to my server's fixed internal ip address (I can access my webpages from the internet just fine). When I initially setup the server I was asked to give it a "primary DNS name." I naturally assumed that N.com was supposed to be entered here, but that just caused all kinds of problems (though I still do not understand why). So I reinstalled and currently have server.N.com as the primary DNS name of the server (although it shows up in Server Admin and Workgroup Manager as server.local--why is that?)
I have had no luck getting any email from the internet with the default settings in mail services (domain name of N.com and host name of server.N.com). Having no luck with the defaults, I assumed that maybe I needed to change the host name to "mail.N.com" so that it matched the MX record. I also changed the user preferences in Workgroup Manager to receive mail from mail.N.com--but still no luck. Could someone tell me what I am doing wrong and how come none of the Mail Service literature mentions anything about what a mail "host name" is supposed to be? Is it supposed to be the same as the "Mail Server" name that Workgroup Manager asks each user for? and is it the same as the MX record name?
I am just needing some help to connect all these variously named, but undefined, dots.
Also, how come I can access webmail from the internet using www.N.com/webmail but can't do it from any computers within my physical network (I have to use IPaddress/webmail or server.local/webmail)?
Also, should my user email addresses be [email protected] or [email protected] (which is the current default)?
Thanks in advance and good luck!
    John

I had been told by a friend that ... regular email coming in from the internet would go through port 80
    Unfortunately you were misinformed.
My MX record needs the extra subname (such as "mail") in front of the domain name, right?
Not at all. A MX record for 'N.com' is entirely valid (expected, in fact).
An MX record tells remote mail servers where to send mail for any domain/subdomain. If you think about it, let's say you worked for Apple and you wanted people to be able to send email to [email protected], well then you need an MX record for 'apple.com'.
You can see if you dig MX apple.com that they actually have 9 MX records, but the point still stands.
Now, you might also have MX records for subdomains so that you can have [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], etc. Each of these subdomains would need a separate MX record.
So, in general, for any set of email addresses @[anything.]domain.com you have a MX record telling remote mail servers where to send that mail.
Of course the MX record name is mail.N.com, but I think you are implying that the in the Mail settings of Server Admin where it asks for domain name all I need to put there is the N.com, right?
What I mean is that you need to set the domain name to whatever domain name you expect to receive mail at.
If you want users to have email addresses in the form of [email protected], then you enter 'N.com'.
If you want users to have email addresses in the form of [email protected] then you enter 'mail.N.com'.
If you want both forms, enter one in the main domain and add the other(s) in the Advanced -> Hosting -> Local Host Aliases section.
Is there anything in the Mail settings that needs to have the full MX record name (mail.N.com)?
Yes. Either the 'domain name' or the 'Local Host Aliases' needs to contain the same thing as your MX record. That's because the MX record tells remote servers to send mail to this machine, but the machine won't accept the mail unless it is configured to do so.
What is the "host name" supposed to be?
This should be the name that remote servers see when this machine tries to send outgoing mail.
Ideally this should match the reverse DNS of your IP address, that way when it connects to a remote server it says "Hi, I'm $hostname" and the remote server can lookup the machine's IP address and see the same result. This will reduce the problem of remote servers thinking you're sending them spam.
If you only have a single IP address then this probably needs to be something like 'N.com'. If you don't have control over your reverse DNS then you're going to run into a problem.
Also in the user accounts (in Workgroup Manager) what should the "mail server name" be? Is it the host name or the domain name?
    Off hand, I don't know.
Also, why are all the default user email addresses [email protected] (the name I gave the server at setup)? Why doesn't the user accounts create [email protected] as the default address?
Presumably because the mail server says it is 'server.N.com' and therefore any accounts on that machine would be [email protected]. Changing the domain name (as above) should fix that.

  • Multiple Web Sites with Personal Domain Names - Overview

I have read through the last 10 pages of these discussions and have almost worked this out, but I need some help.
    Problem:
I want to publish and edit two separate web sites with their own, individual, personal web addresses
from the same user account on the same Mac using iWeb '08 (2.0.2) and my .Mac account
    _So far:_
I have purchased and registered the two domain names (with Cheap-DomainRegistration.com)
I have configured the CNAME to point to web.mac.com, and "Set up a Personal Domain" in iWeb successfully, but using a separate Mac for each web site.
    The two sites work great.
_What (I think) I need to know:_
(excuse me for copying these posts out, but I can't find a way to link them to this post)
    1) Should I be using iWebSites as suggested by Old Toad (posted Jan 24 in response to StAnNe's "Multiple Websites--HELP!!!")?
I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
    2) Should I be using Mireille's approach (also posted Jan 24 in response to StAnNe's "Multiple Websites--HELP!!!")?
Yes you are correct in the thought that with a family pack you can use different accounts and that is the easiest way to upload with one click to .mac. But it is still possible to publish differents sites to one .mac account if that is all one has. Even if the sites are in one domain file each purchased mysite.com domain name purchased can be pointed to a different page in the site
    Look at it this way
    Original Poster has
site1 page 1 page 2 and so on
then he/she has brothersite page 1 and so on.
They each have a domain name purchase wherever
then site1domain.com is forwarded to site 1 page1
and brotherdomain.com is forwarded to brothersite page 1.
Even though both sites are in the same file they do not have anything to do with each other.
This is one possibility there are others but for a novice user this could be the way to go for simplicity.
(Mireille, if you're there, can you clarify what you said - thank you)
    3) Would I use Roddy's fix (posted Jan 23 in response to canadensis' "Publishing Multiple Websites?")?
Here's an example of how you can separate two websites that are on the same domain file.
    Quit iWeb
Create a new folder on your desktop and call it "iWeb Sites".
Inside this folder create two more - Website A, Website B.
Go to Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb and copy your domain file - command C
Paste this into folders A and B - command V - and also paste a copy of it somewhere else - like in Docs - in case you make a mistake!
Double click the domain file in the folder Website A - this will launch iWeb.
In the left column, delete site B, save and quit iWeb.
Double click the domain file in the folder Website B to launch iWeb.
Delete website A, save and quit.
Drop the iWeb sites folder into your Home Folder.
If you want quick access to this folder you can highlight it and do command L to create an alias to leave on the desktop.
From now on, to launch any site in iWeb you open its folder in the iWebsites folder and double click the domain file.
This is not necessary when you are working on only one site as iWeb saves the domain file of the last site you were working on to Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb. When you open the iWeb application, the last site you worked on will be launched.
    Summary:
I'm not sure if some of the answers in previous discussions allow for personal domain names, which is what I need.
I would be very grateful for any suggestions as I'm getting bogged down.
    Many Thanks,
    Jeff

When you said, "you don't need to do CNAME for both sites…", would this method still allow me to use personal web addresses for both sites?
Yes. With "Ordinary Forwarding" you normally just type your .Mac url (web.mac.com/username/sitename) into a form at the place where you have your name.
I thought I was using 'web.mac.com' as the 'www' CNAME (alias) for my personal domain name (web address), so that when someone typed in my personal domain name they would 'go' to the domain registration location, which would then pass it on to the .Mac server, where my web site is hosted.
That's exactly right. It's just not the only way to do that. Ordinary Forwarding is another way, but it differs in terms of what appears in the address bar of the browser. Either you will see web.mac.com/username/.... or, if you add "masking", you will see your personal name for all pages. The CNAME method results in a address bar that reads www.myname.com/sitename/pagename.html.
    Am I way off?

  • Multiple domains names and web sites with only one SLS and one static IP

I tried to find a post on this topic but I still can't find what needs to be done.
SLS is configured for one domain with one web site and it's working well. We will call it domain1.com. Here is the config:
    Static IP: 69.x.x.x
    DNS setting under Server Admin:
    hostname: server.domain1.com
Two DNS entries under domain1.com with:
    www - alias - server.domain1.com
server - Machine - 10.0.1.x (fixe IP for server on LAN)
    Web settings under Server Admin:
    server.domain1.com - 10.0.1.x - Port 80
Domain1.com is managed with DynDNS Custom DNS Service with 1 record:
    domain1.com - A-record - 69.x.x.x
I want to host a second domain (for a website) called domain2.com. It's also registred at DynDNS and I have custom DNS setting to configure.
What's need to be done to have both domains with seperate web site on SLS under DNS and Web settings (beside the fact that I will have 2 different folders with the website files in it). I understand that I will need a new entry in the DNS for the new domain (domain2.com) and also an entry in the Web Service pane. But what are the details.
    Thanks.

When you said, "you don't need to do CNAME for both sites…", would this method still allow me to use personal web addresses for both sites?

  • Domain name changes when sent to external mail ids

    Here's the problem...
We are sending PO's as pdf's to the vendor..
If the vendor domain name is vendor.com and mine is company.com.
    SAP sends a mail
    To [email protected] ;[email protected]
    CC : [email protected]
When the mail reaches the vendor it shows as
    To [email protected] ;[email protected]
    CC : [email protected]
the domain name of person2 gets changed though person2 does get the mail...and when the purchase manager at the company looks at it in his inbox - it looks as it should be.
I checked SOST it shows the correct mail id.This is not specific to a particular domain occurs with all domains .
Has anyone encountered such a problem before.
    Regards
    Rani

    Hello Navjot,
if you have some basis background you can check TCode SCOT there you can see if the mail connect for external mails is configured correctly. There shoud be at least a node for SMTP communication. If there is such node check that sending s not restricted to certain adresses. Furthermore you could check over the menu if the default domain is set properly.
    Kind Regards

  • How to use iPhoto web gallery with iWeb & personal domain name

So, another question about iWeb 08:
I've set up my site to use a personal domain name, like www.mypersonaldomain.com. I've configured everything with my DNS settings so that it actually points to my iWeb site, and I'm happy about that.
However, I've imported a few iPhoto '08 web galleries into my site, but when I browse to them by going to www.mypersonaldomain.com and clicking on the link for my gallery, it goes to a URL that actually shows my .mac account, i.e. gallery.mac.com/sockdaddy/gallery1/photo.jpg
Is there any way to have the web galleries that I'm using become a more transparent part of my iWeb site, and use my personal domain?

I've never done this on .Mac but I do use this on my server. I don't see why it wouldn't work.
In iPhoto select your web gallery and in the "file" menu select "export" and then "Web Page".
Select your options and click "Export" to the desktop.
There are now 4 folders and an index.html file.
Change the name of the index file to whatever you want to call the page e.g WebGallery.html
Now go to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites and open your website folder.
Drag and drop the 4 folders and the html file from your desktop into this.
Create a link to this from your website in the "link" inspector and choose "external page".
The URL for the link will be the same as any other page on your site except WebGallery is substituted for the page name.
If you check the "open link in new window" you won't have to worry about the fact that you don't have a link back to your site from the WebGallery page.
