Web mock up

Hi again. i think i found out what i  have been wanting to do as far as a website workflow.  i have found out that you can make a mock up of a web site in photo shop and then get it approved then turn the mock up into a jpeg for portfolio use. aslo use the layers in the muse final project to. there is a video to do this right?

There is!

  • How do I create a web mock-up using Full Width Photo's

    Greetings & Help!
I'm trying to create a full width photo layout using
Fireworks CS3 & Dreamwaver CS3 without the photo's being tall.
Exactly as the following websites - which all seem to be
using the same size of photo or very close to it.
This site is static with full width photos that are not tall.
    http://www.jenniferhandyproperties.com/selling
This site is static for the most part and full width photos
    that are not tall
    http://www.gnvpartners.com/web/
This site is Flash with full width photos that are not tall.
    expodesigncenter
I would love to create a flash site just like expo but at
this point I would settle for a static photo with the same size
being the same on each page.
Also I would like my site to be a liquid layout so the photo
and everything else (text, Links etc) on the page flows correctly.
    The problem...
I'm trying to use photo's from Istockphoto.com. The size of
    the photo's they offer are
    425 x 282 px (5.9" x 3.9")
    849 x 565 px (11.8" x 7.8")
    1698 x 1131 px (5.7" x 3.8")
I'm selecting horizontal photo's. I do not know how to match
the same width, height and appearence as the websites I mentioned
    above.
If I choose a photo that fits the width then the length is
too long. Also if I choose a large photo and have to crop it then
most of the detail of the photo is lost.
I'm attempting to create a mock-up for my web in Fireworks
CS3 and after search Adobe and www I came across the mock up should
be 1004px which would end up being 1024 with vertical scroll bar
    and small margins.
I also have Photoshop & Flash CS3 but should mention (if
you haven't already guess it by now) I am a rookie when it comes to
    creating a website.
So if you can offer a solution in "Non-Tech Terms" I would
    appreciate it.
Thank you in advance for your time.

    Hi Pixlor -
I'll do my best to answer your questions - within my ability
    - which isn't much.
As far as "Tile" the photo - I've checked out the responces
I've received from other's on this post - and other posts - and on
each page for the "masthead" I just want one photo to be the same
size of the page width wize - and the height of the photo should
not be tall from the top of the masthead to the bottom of the
masthead. As far as what I mean by "not being Tall" - see next
    comment...
I'm just attempting to duplicate exactly (or very close to
it) the same appearence and dimensions - "Width = side-to-side,
Tall = Height - as the websites I mentioned in my first post here.
Also if you check out Joey's website (who responded to my
post as well) basicly he has created the same thing that I'm
shooting for except he is using graphics. I have to use photos in
my masthead which will be of kitchen cabinetry or construction
photo's and must highlight every detail down to the shine of the
kitchen cabinets knobs - or close to it.
Due to this I can not have the photos of the masthead "tile"
from "width-to-width or top-to-bottom because the deatils in the
photo can not repeat or multiply to completely fill the masthead
head. Otherwize if I choose a photo of kitchen cabinetry which
highlights a kitchen sink - and if I tile this photo - from what
I'm learning from everyones responce thus far - I'll end up with
several of the same kitchen sinks and cabinets in the same photo.
I must stress I could be wrong in what I described directly
above due to my lack of tech knowledge! If this post was about a
2x4 or 2x6 or Green Building or what have you, It would be heck of
alot easier for me to completely understand what you pro's are
trying to help me with - which I completely appreaciate. Expecially
someone like you who owns a monitor the size of one of my work
    trucks!
Which brings me to your next question...
    Liquid layout -
Yes I am trying to end up with a liquid layout for my website
using Dreamweaver CS3. Hopefully using one of the pre-built liquid
layouts in Dreamweaver and modify it within my ability.
The main reason why I would like to create a liquid layout is
because most others construction firms in my industry - and in my
target market - have websites that completely consume a viewers
monitor - viewport - screen real estate - (i'm trying to learn your
tech terms) no matter what size viewport a viewer has, or how the
    viewer resizes theirs.
I've also heard that a "Min & Max" code can be included
in a liquid layout so that it would limit the "liquidness" of the
layout so "Text Lines" won't stretch too long making it difficult
to read when a viewport size extends - and when the viewport shinks
    - all the elements (or Div's) will reflow an maintain order and
    visability.
    1004 -
The only reason why I mentioned designing the Fireworks CS3
mock-up at a 1004 is because someone else mentioned they design
their mock-ups at a "Canvas Size" of 1004. Then most browsers
automaticly inlclude a scroll bar if the vertical content exceeds
below "The Fold". Thus with the addition of the automatic scroll
bar the page now becomes 1024 - according to this person.
She went on to mention according to "recent studies" - 56% of
viewers have 1024 x 768 and most computer manufacturs shipp them
this way. Then the following stats... 22% at 800 x 600, then 13% at
    1280 x 1024, then 3% at 1152 x 864, then 1% at 1580 x 1129. She
also mentions most avearge viewers (every day Dick & Jane, Bob
& Besty) (excluding computer tech folks like yourself) - do not
resize - bother with - or know how to resize their viewport.
My personal note on this is most of my target market -
clients - just turn on their computer and surfs the net from
website to website without changing their viewport and when also
asked they "Feel" that a website looks much better - or more
profeshional - when the content completely fills up an entire
    viewport.
    "Feel - not - Think" -
Keep in mind I choose the word "Feel" & not "Think". In
my target market - Residential Construction - 95% of home
improvement decisions are made my the Woman of the houshold - not
the Man. That being in mind it is a proven stat (and not a sexest
comment) that women base most of their choices or decsions on how
something makes them "Feel". Where as most men make their choice or
    decision on how they "Think".
Also most men attempt to keep their women happy and knowing
that if they don't then they will end up in the doghouse - ( not a
fun place to be trust me on this) and in addition most men do not
have much of a clue when it comes to the interior design layout of
a home, matching of paint colors, appliance choices or what have
    you.
Wow that was a major side track I took -
    Back to 1004 -
It's not that I'm intend in designing the mock-up in
Fireworks at 1004 - I just want to end up wth a liquid layout so
when my site is viewed by "most people" then my site will
completely consume a viewers viewport - or very close to it.
If I need to design the mock-up less then 1004 - or more then
    - and still be able to end up with the same end result in a liquid
    form - so be it.
I don't know the best way to proceed -
I'm just attempting to learn from others who respond and for
the most part those who have been kind enough and taken the time to
respond seem to be very knowlegeable about my issue at hand.
You might find this hard to believe but I am learning quite a
bit from all of you and I really do appreaciate it.
Well now that this responce is as long as the novel "War
    & Peace" - I'll close here.

  • Photo shop mock up info

Hi i was wondering about information on using photo shop to build a mockup for a web site  and import that mockup into dreamweaver. can it be done? is it hard to do this way. in the past i have for school related projects did such an idea. like would jump into DW. never used photo shop other than image editing.  my background is photography. thats why i am asking. i am now finding out that photo shop can be used more than just for images. right now i found out it works with muse as well.
    2. can the same be used for a web app mock up as well? like importing a web mock up in photo shop and importing it into DW.

You couldn't pay me to use Muse.  But I appreciate where you're coming from.
Below is a simple CSS Layout for displaying Photos.  This was custom coded in Dreamweaver. The viewer is jQuery Fancybox2.  Copy & paste this code into a new, blank document in DW.

  • Using CS6 for web mockup creation? Tips on how-to's

    Hi
Pretty new to Photoshop and running CS6.
I'm looking for a workflow to create web mock-ups in the most efficient and easy way.
What Im looking for is to take an existing web frontend page and tweek it with new sections and components like buttons/menus/new text areas, images etc etc....
are there any specific tools or "web galleries" to use for this purpose that I can incorporate into CS6....not really sure how to form this question in the right way but I hope this sort of exaplined my purpose....creation of good-looking web page design (even if it will jsut be in .psd format)
Any help, tips & tricks would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    //Helmut

A web gallery is many web pages you need more then a layered template psd. Templates are more suited for Collages rather then web Galleries.  In the bridge output module there are some caned web galleries provided by Adobe there just not very good or a not easy to customize.
There are many web gallery creation tools available on the web some free other cost. If you do a search you will find many. Some use Photoshop in the process they are Photoshop Scripts. Most have some options to customize some features. None that I know of give you complete freedom to create whatever you want. They support their web gallery designs where you can customize features within the designs.

  • How can I create a horizontal scrollbar with a centered thumb that scrolls content from both sides?

I am having trouble figuring out how to create a horizontal scrollbar component either by itself or nested inside a data list component that will have it's thumb centered in the track when running and reveal content from either the right or left side when the thumb is moved. The furthest I have managed to get is to create a data list component with a scrollbar component inside that has a centered thumb that reveals content from the right side of the list (0 through 10 of the items) but only reveals blank area when tracking the other way. Is there a way to create say… negative items in the data list… 0 through -10? Or am I approaching this the wrong way. Please help. Thanks.

    Mykola,
Thanks. I guess I was hoping for an answer that addressed my question from a designer's point of view rather than a developers'. As a designer with over ten years experience using Adobe products for print work it is difficult to understand why "centered" is such a complicated concept when designing art for use on the web. It is so frustrating to realize that most containers for images and text can only be resized by pushing and pulling handles located on the right and bottom; Catalyst seems like a great start but if Adobe really wanted to impress the "design" community it might consider putting all that supercharged code underneath the hood of some more familiar "design" tools. Maybe a "catalytic converter" would allow the introduction of a "centered" tool for every element.
After all, why is it literally twenty-five times more difficult, requiring the use of three additional programs to create a component that functions exactly like a typical data list and scroll bar with the exception that the thumb is "centered" on the track and reveals images from both the right and left. For that matter why not also have as an option a thumb that snaps to the bottom of the track and reveals images from the top… and one that snaps to the right and reveals images from the left when you run the project? It just seems so logical to expand the scroll bar component to include these options.
I am very glad to have Catalyst and will redesign my project to fit within the constraints of the tools available in the program but it seems that if Adobe is really serious about Catalyst being a window into the world of web design for designers/AD's that perhaps it might benefit by focusing on what might improve the program from the designer's point of view. I hate to say it but the Catalyst forum is already rife with answers to questions that are riddled with code… Literally. And to be honest most designers don't have the time to decipher that code. As a designer I work regularly and have a deep understanding of Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro, Final Cut Pro, Final Draft and modo. I do hi-res assembly, retouching, design and layout, identity, production, 3D modeling and rendering, video editing… and before I switch to using Catalyst for web mock-ups I am going to need a more "designer" friendly set of tools and definitely a "centered" control.
I really think Adobe is fantastic. But I also think it could take a lesson from a great little company called Luxology. I tried learning 3D modeling and rendering for years with programs like Lightwave, Maya and others, always with mixed results. Then Luxology came along and actually delivered on their promise to create a 3D program for artists. What was the factor that made all the difference? Well, besides the Apple award winning interface and sets of tools it was the training available on their sight. The program itself ships with thirty-six hours of quicktime movies. And hundreds more hours available for download. I have never yet not been able to quickly and easily find an answer to a question I had about how to accomplish something in modo. You know how long I have already spent on Adobe TV searching through videos and on the Catalyst forum searching through topics trying to get an answer to what I thought was a very simple question? Way too many. If I have a question about a Luxology product that I can't find the answer to do you know what I do? I call Brad Peebler, the President of Luxology. I'm not special nor do I work for some special development house with special privileges that is simply their policy. And that policy has paid big dividends. Both ILM and Pixar has licensed their technology.
Well… I apologize for this long response but I really think that if Catalyst is going to attract the market it wants that it will have to consider putting some designers on the development team. After all… Isn't that what the promo videos tout… Finally a web design program for designers. Well, I guess we'll see.

  • Does PS CS6 now have 2 ways to add a stroke and fill to a shape?

Using CS6 for web mock ups - so lots of vector shapes.
And now there are 2 ways to do a stroke, 2 ways to do a fill - in the bar at the top or the old effects dialogue box, but gradients and shadows etc are still just in the old dialogue box, not in the top bar.
Is it me or is this incredibly bad app development? Bolt on some new functionality and don't bother about the old stuff so it just becomes one big mess.
Starting to use Sketch now, and really hoping they keep working on it so it makes PS redundant -
    http://www.bohemiancoding.com/sketch/

Hello, Elio, there are indeed two different strokes. One is a characteristic of the vector path. Having two allows you to create multiple strokes easily.

  • Add a texture to a gradient background

I have a web mock-up with a gradient background.  This is just a rectangle with a gradient fill at the bottom layer.  I would like to add a texture to my background.  Just some noise or a parchement or something.  I don't know how to do it.  I would like the texture to have the colour of the background of course and be fairly indistinct.
Could you just give me a few pointers please
    Thanks
    Martin

    Many thanks
    That's it.
I think I was trying to approach it in a Photoshoppy kind of way.  Strkes me this was a bit easier than how I would have done it in PS.
Anyway, I'm another couple of degrees up that learning curve!
    Regards
    Martin

  • Artboard Questions

    When making new artboards:
    1. how do you make it so it is a multi-page document for printing?
    2. can you have artboards that are different sizes as part of the same file?
    3. what is the point of changing the order of artboards?
    4. do you use extra artboards for coming up with ideas off of the main canvas? because it seems you could also do this just outside the boundaries of the main artboard.
    Thanks!

    kat.hayes wrote:
    Hi Wade,
    1. So one might use a separate Artboard for each page of a website you are designing mockups for  to show to a client instead of making separate .AI files?
If using it in this way, which is the main intent of multiple artboards, one might do even more than just using them for the page make up. One could in the same document create a logo on a separate art board and use the artboard as a crop area device when going as to dreamweaver with your slices you can send the logo as to the site folder. You can create your buttons as well if they are to be reused on future web pages, you might do the same for images as well.
    2. Since each artboard can be exported as a separate .jpg. .tiff, .pdf or whatever, it sounds this might be easier to do then to make separate .ai files, right? I'm guessing this approach has no real disadvantages.
Essentially the only problem is if you delete the file you delete everything…true that could happen to a folder full of files as well, so if one looked at the document as a folder or better yet a job ticket then one sees the bigger picture and if one is prudent and backs up the file there are lots of advantages and do downside.
What you might want to do is keep art like logos inTact and you want to export the pages as well to a folder called master art one for the client and one for all master art, buttons.
Animated art as well, you can actually d some good animated work in Illustrator though it is limited. You can display it but you can create it and export it. If Illustrator had a time line that would make users able to do more of their web mock ups. If it had the ability to at least test the site in Dreamweaver then that would be ideal, including animation that would complete the power for creating webpages and Dreamweaver would be more complete. If Artboards could be exported directly to Dreamweaver sliced or not and then given interactivity and tested then this would complete both programs.
The only real disadvantages are features that have not been implemented and not anything to do with single or multiple files Single files are more likely to be misfiled and deleted.
In either case Illustrator does not have an auto backup and recovery feature.
Sorry for digressing but I am working on updating a website and find somethings I would like to do I cannot do though iuse illustrator and Dreamweaver for this work. Maybe next version?
    Thank you.
It is a work flow made specifically but not exclusively for your purpose.

  • How do I create web forms with updateable mock up graphics?

I am interested in creating both web forms and pdfs that are able to update a mock up image, similar to those found on sites like zazzle and society6. The user enters text, picks a color, uploads an image, etc. and the mock up image is updated for them to review and ultimately submit for purchase. Can this be achieved without coding (in Muse perhaps), or with a minimum of coding knowledge? I assume it would be a process using several pieces of adobe software, I just don't know which ones or where to start looking for tutorials specific to this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would start with Muse. If you have more experience with coding, using Dreamweaver. InDesign is not appropriate for what you're trying to do.

  • Help for mock web service (service skeleton and unmarshalling)

    Hi,
I need to create mock web service in which I want to read soap/xml responses from my hard drive and send it to web service client. The responses would differ based on some input parameter. (small business logic in mock service)
Till now, I created my mock service skeleton from Axis and used JAXB (JWSDP) to unmarshall xml to java objects. But problem is we can not cast object unmarshalled by JAXB into response object created by Axis. And so can not return those objects as response.
So, I want to know if I can use JWSDP or Metro to solve this problem. Will JWSDP or Metro solve my problem if I use it to create service skeleton as well as for unmarshalling?
If this is not possible, can you please suggest any viable alternative?

Thanks very much for your suggestion. I will take a look into the wsdl again and see if something is wrong in that.
I have a peculiar problem with the wsdl. When I created the partner link using the remote wsdl it would throw a compilation error. But when I took a local copy of the remote wsdl and seperated all the schema's from the wsdl and imported them inside wsdl it gets compiled. But I am not sure if this is a appropriate thing to do and if that is creating this problem. Any thoughts on this would be really helpful.

Hi as .you know from me asking a million questions. i just heard that photo shop can be used as a mock up for web design.  from this video i saw.  i am wondering should this be the work flow that i should be using instead of just jumping into muse like i did before in Dreamweaver.? if thats the case i am willing to change my habit.  i keep hearing that all ideas come from a sketch layout. with the new photo shop sketch tool for ipad.  i am wondering if thats going to be the core for web site ideas.  then finish it in photo shop and finalize it in muse . again design is my weak point thats why i have my degree in commercial graphics/ photography. thats why i enjoy web design. but want to keep it simple.  so would you recommend this idea?
Placing a PSD in Adobe Muse - Muse-Themes.com - YouTube

Integration between Muse and Photoshop is limited to placing PSD files into Muse as images or as rollover buttons at the moment. So if you are looking at a workflow that web designers use with Photoshop > Dreamweaver after slicing, then that is not possible in Muse right now.
Photoshop and Dreamweaver integration on the other hand has been drastically improved with introduction of the Extract service and panel in Dreamweaver. You can read more about that here: Extract a Photoshop design into code in Dreamweaver | Adobe Dreamweaver CC tutorials

  • Extracting pics from photoshop for web

    Hi all,
I posted the issue here (below) - but could use any assitance from the DW folks also - since that's where I'll be building the page...
    Newbie extract help needed

Once you drop out any info from the PS file you don't want to carry over, like the background image, there's no need to flatten the PSD into a tiff...
    1. In Photoshop, select an area with the Rectangle Marquee tool.
    2. Hit Ctrl + Shift + C to "Copy all layers" in that selection.
    3. Hit Ctrl + N to create a new document with the same pixel size as the selection (size should be automatic based on selection)
    4. Hit Ctrl + P to paste the image to the new document
    5. Hit Ctrl + Shift + Alt + S to Save For Web (important for load times to optimize your images for the web)
    6. Choose jpg for high quality photographs, .gif for "simple artwork with transparency" or PNG-24 for "high quality artwork/photos with transparency"
    7. Hit the 4 Up tab and change the quality settings until they are as low as possible while still looking "good" to you
    8. Click the window with the "lowest good setting"
    9. Save to your local site folder (if you don't have one in DW, do step 1 below first)
    1. Open DW and Define a Site: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-dreamweaver-cs5/gs01-defining-a-new-site/
2a.You can then go to Insert > Image > Image to place the image where the mouse cursor is
2b. Alternatively, you can drag the image from the Files window into the page
I'm giving you the "long" way around with the images. Photoshop can produce html, and/or all of your sliced areas at once with a couple clicks. I prefer a bit more control over my images and the html PS produces should never be used for real websites (maybe quick mock-ups, but not for the real thing). It's horribly inflexible and when you start adding real content it will cause more problems than it solves.

  • Creating Web Banners in InDesign CC

I need to create some static web banners.
They're a mixture of flat type/graphics, and mock photo collages with drop shadows.
InDesign is my strongest suit. Illustrator I'm decent. My Photoshop skills are lackluster.
Can I create them in InDesign CC, save as PDFs, open in Photoshop and Save for Web?
Alternatively can I just export them as JPGs from InDesign?
Is it better to create them in Illustrator?
Or do I need to buck up and learn to do them right in Photoshop?

Or do I need to buck up and learn to do them right in Photoshop?
I don't see a problem with using ID—it's certainly easier to set type there than in Photoshop. Guess it depends on the amount of type vs. image effects.
Just set the document up with web intent to the pixel dimensions you need for the banner. To get a same pixel dimension image version export to JPEG at 72ppi or to PDF and open as 72ppi.
If you are using OSX this AppleScript might be useful, opens the ID page as a layered Photoshop image:

  • Interactive web query forms - can BO do this?

    Hi,
we want is for an interactive web form that allows a call centre staff to run queries. See below for a mock up.
We're talking up to 50 users concurrent querying a dB with approx. 50ML msg's per day with 30 day's worth of data in the repository. From my experience with BO I haven't been able to see how such an interactive web form that queries the database can be realised. For example each of the Report Criteria would equate to a Prompt in BO.
In a previous life I was involved with developing such a tool but this was done through the use of macromedia dreamweaver and coldfusion. It's a pity since BO looks after the user management so well. Does BO have any bolt-on app's that could do the job?
    The main functions this tool will allow are;
    - SORT all Columns
    - Master/Detail view click on record and see the detail - Drill cxan be used here once I create the correct hierarchies.
    - Pop-up Calendars (small applets)
Is BO up for the task do you think. Do you know of anyone else I could pass this question onto?
    Cheers, Ed

Thanks for the reply Praveen SG,
I used to use Business Objects way back in the day. So far on this job I'm going I've merely been using Designer to create the universe and then WEBI to create the reports.
I'm running BOXI 3.1 on a Red Hat Linux Ent 5.0 machine.
The User Mgmt is ideal within BO for what we're trying to achieve.
None of the other BO Tools Crystal Reports, Deski, Query As a Web Service would be able to provide the functionality I'm after.
It seems these SDK add-on's all seem to have a Crystal reports focus.
I'll start rummaging about in the Tutorials (I know it's cheeky of me but you couldn't suggest some of the more applicable ones for me).
Also other than Bob are there any other places on the Web where I'd be able to pick some experts brains on this.
    Thanks, Ed
