Web page appears different when located on local server

I was editing a web page that is already up and running. Downloaded a copy to my local PC and everything was fine.
Copied all the code to my local Microsoft Windows 2003 server and now the pages appear wrong.
If the file is uploaded back to a website - it appears fine.
This only happens in IE to my knowledge.
My guess is that it is a setting in IE, but I do not know which one.
This is a screen shot showing the bottom of the first page.  You can see part of the box is showing up below the bottom of the box which has rounded corners and a drop shadow.
Does anybody have any ideas?
Matt

Thanks for the reply.
I will review those sites and see what I can find.

My web page appears correct in Windows 2000 but in XP the
graphics appear outside of their border and there is a horizontal

Yes. You haven't given us a link to the page so we can try to

  • What can I do when web pages with scripting display ok from a server but not locally?

I have html and java script in the same folder path, both on a server and locally. The pages display correctly when accessed from the server, but not when accessed locally. Is there a change I can make to Firefox to solve this problem?

An address starting with c: wouldn't be any kind of domain name. C: is the drive lettering system DOS and and later uses. By default, A: and B: are reserved for your first and second floppy disk drive. All hard drives are then named C: through Z:, if you have that many. C: is normally your startup disk.
Anyway, their PDF file is incorrectly linked to a file directly on the C: drive of someone's computer. It's not going to work no matter what you do.

See also this article about caret browsing: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Scrolling_with_arrow_keys_no_longer_works
In Firefox 3.6 and later versions you can disable the F7 shortcut that toggles caret browsing by setting the pref accessibility.browsewithcaret_shortcut.enabled to false.
To open the ''about:config'' page, type '''about:config''' in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

In fact, I am runing some plug-ins:  ClickToPlugin (Flash blocker), Collusion and Disconnect.
There is quite a history of new versions of Safari breaking third-party plug-ins/extensions becasue the plug developer did not have an updated version available by the time the new Safari version dropped. What you report--worked fne before but won't now--is exactly what history says happens in such a case.
First, turn off all third-party stuff and see if Safari smooths out. Alternatively, create a new user account and, from there, test Safari in its native state with nothing added. That is a good diagnostic to see if the issue is a plug or extension.
If either of those helps, check for updates to the add-ons. If the developer is slow in reacting to the updated Safari version, (not unheard of), stop using that extension until an update is available.

Thank you, it worked with just F5. I don't know whether CTRL + F5 would work because the problem has not come back yet!

  • Web site appears different without "www" entered in location bar.

Hello, I've just created a web site, www.danwoodard.com. When I type in "www.danwoodard.com" everything appears as it should. However, if I omit the "www" and enter only "danwoodard.com" the site is much larger than it should be. This does not happen with other browsers on my computer. Can anyone suggest what might be happening? Thank you.

Firefox remembers your zoom setting individually for each web page, and considers "www.danwoodard.com" and "danwoodard.com" to be different pages.
Firefox will behave the same for other users, who will have the same problem if they have set a different zoom factor for each of those pages.

  • First page appears blank when viewing a Crystal Report in the web viewer

I have seen threads and KB articles regarding this issue but the suggested solutions do not correct the issue. (KB articles [1423482 and 1439109)
The issue only started after upgrading from CR 2008 runtime to CR 2008 SP4 runtime.
When the page containing the viewer control first loads, the report pane is completely blank.
The viewer toolbars appear as expected, and the report can be exported using the Export button on the viewer toolbar without issue.
Changing the zoom level causes the first page of the report to appear as expected, and reverting the zoom level does not cause the report pane to become blank again.
Navigating to the next page of the report works and the second page appears as expected. Returning to the first page shows the first page of the report as expected.
Our application is installed on dozens of servers but this issue only has occurred on a few installations at this time.
Steps attempted to resolve the issue:
    1. Uninstall CR 2008 SP4 runtime, confirm the CrystalReportViewers12 folders were removed from the folders C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\aspnet_client\system_web\2_0_50727 and C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Common\4.0, then reinstall CR 2008 SP4 runtime.
    2. Ensure there are no underscores in the server name.
    3. Change the crystalreportsviewers12 Virtual Directory to use the folder C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\aspnet_client\system_web\2_0_50727\CrystalReportViewers12
    4. Remove and recreate the crystalrep[ortviewers12 Virtual Directory.
    5. Replace the C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\aspnet_client\system_web\2_0_50727\CrystalReportViewers12 folder from a server that does not exhibit the issue.
Any new ideas or suggestions? Thanks

  • Page appears different in browser

I am responsible for updating my company's website in dreamweaver and am having problems with the layout.  The main page is at this link: http://teom-bfms.faa.gov/.  If you are unable to see it, let me know and I'll send you a screenshot.  There are a few glitches with the layout but the thing that concerns me is the first column is much wider than the other two.  It looks fine in dreamweaver but is distorted in the Explorer browser view (that's what we use here).  I have attached the code to this email so I'm hoping someone can explain to me why it looks different in the browser than in Dreamweaver.  Just so you know, I'm a real novice when it comes to this so I may ask a lot of additional questions.
Anyway, here's the code for my page:

<p class="style1">Please join the Marine Corps Reserve for the 2009 Toys for Tots Campaign and make this a memorable year for those less fortunate during this holiday season. </p>
<p class="style1">The Toys for Tots message, that someone cares and that there is hope for the future, has motivated countless youngsters throughout the nation to grow into responsible, productive and patriotic citizens.  They are the leaders of tomorrow.  Toys for Tots make a difference - it has a positive impact on lives and the communities it serves.  While Toys for Tots is a nationwide effort, it is a community based program.  The toys you contribute will be distributed locally to the underprivileged children who might otherwise be overlooked during this holiday season. The campaign will run from December 7, 2009 through December 17, 2009.</p>
<p class="style1">As they have for the past 16 years, volunteers from the Office of the Associate Administrator for Airports will coordinate the FAA Headquarters Toys for Tots drive.  They will be on hand to collect toys from boxes located on the 2nd floor of the Orville Wright Building (FOB-10A) and Level A (cafeteria) in the Wilbur Wright Building, FOB-10B. </p>
<p class="style1">Toys should be unwrapped so that they can be sorted by age and gender.  They should be appropriate for children up to 17 years of age.  Items for older children are always in greatest demand. </p>

                <p align="center" class="style29">Lotus Notes Upgrade Launched</p>
<p align="left" class="style1">The Messaging Services team is eager to remind you that the Lotus Notes 8.0.2 upgrade was launched October 26th and will continue through April 30, 2010. As schedules develop and become available from each Line of Business (LOB), the <a href="https://ecenter.faa.gov/appspub/national/nd8webcommo.nsf/ND8Communications?OpenPage" class="style103"><u>ND8 Communications</u></a> site will be updated to reflect the changes. Remember that individual LOBs will control their own implementation schedules, so we encourage everyone to visit the site frequently and find out when the upgrade is happening in your area.</p>
<p align="left" class="style1">Now for the important stuff. In order to better prepare for this major upgrade, we highly encourage all employees to take training, especially our new and exciting user online training offerings! For those really excited enthusiasts, feel free to browse supplemental training links, web casts, sneak previews, and schedule updates available on the <a href="https://ecenter.faa.gov/appspub/national/nd8webcommo.nsf/ND8Communications?OpenPage" class="style103"><u>ND8 Communications</u></a> site.</p>
              <p align="left" class="style1">Meanwhile, let's take a moment to highlight some of the upcoming features...</p>
<p align="left" class="style1">As promised, the new Lotus Notes 8.0.2 software will offer an updated, more intuitive interface with embedded Sametime, conversation threads, in-line spell checking, and Sidebar features, just to name a few. You will encounter some major changes in the layout and experience new enhancements that simplify business processes.</p>
<p align="left" class="style1">One of the first noticeable changes is the new Sidebar tool located on the right side of the screen. The Sidebar displays embedded Notes applications and more importantly, fully integrates Sametime 8 within the Notes client. After the upgrade, you will no longer have to launch a separate Sametime client! Other helpful Sidebar applications include the Day-At-A-Glance feature which summarizes calendar entries in a single-day view, and the option to add RSS feeds.</p>
<p align="left" class="style1">Even for those who travel or work off-site, the new DWA-iNotes Lite version of web mail allows you to access email more quickly and efficiently. Easily switch to the full version, when your work requires more robust tools.</p>
<p align="left" class="style1">The wait is almost over, so be sure to take advantage of the available training and learn about the exciting benefits before everyone else. Experience the desktop of the future today! </p>

    Server Not Found.
Is this an intranet site?  Did you inherit this mess?  I don't mean to be rude or sarcastic but this code is terrible. I'm amazed that this is being used on a dot GOV server.  I suppose if the public can't see it, it doesn't matter to the FAA that this site is a web accessibility and maintenance nightmare.  100+ redundant .styles on a single web page.  That has to be a new record.   If this site were in my charge, I'd recommend a total rebuild.
Anyway, in an attempt to answer your question, 90% of display problems are code related.  Use the links below to check your code and fix all reported errors.

  • Brocken web pages appear inbetween menus

    Hello,
I've recently upgraded to iLife 08 and have just rebuilt my showreel using iDVD. When I click to see one of the films as it goes through the transition from menu to the flm I can see what appears to be broken up web page. I can't figure it out, can anyone help?
    Cheers
    Ewan

I have used iWeb (version 3.0.4.) for many years for several web sites, including lifecourse.org.
    No, you haven't :
    <meta name="Generator" content="iWeb 2.0.4" />
And looking at the code, it's already garbled in the source of the page. No need to set the server straight.
Try a different encoding (instead of Default) in Cyberduck :

  • How do I open a folder and update web page on different computer.

    Hi All,
I started my iweb page on my powermac at work and have uploaded the pages online. I have saved the page to a folder and now want to work on the updates at home on my powerbook and can't seen to figure out how to open the folder. I've used QuickTime VR photos and the powermac at work is struggling and is sluggish so that's why I want to use my powerbook. In the file column I see "Publish to .Mac, All to.Mac, Folder but no open folder. Help
    Thanks
    Mark

in order to update a web page on a different computer you're going to have to move the entire site over to the other computer. to do so you need to move the "domain" file that iweb uses.
The “domain” file is hidden away in <home>/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
unless you've already moved it to another location on your hard drive.
there's more detailed info in this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303045
once you update/change the page you want to update and publish, you'll have to move that domain file back to the other computer if you want to use the 'first' computer again to edit your site. if you just want to continue using the 'second' computer then you don't need to move the file back (obviously)
    hope this helps.

  • Unwanted web page appearing. How do I block or delete?

I web browse with Mozilla Firefox V6.0.1. and my home page is http://www.google.com.au/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official. McAfee Virus Scanner is operable and current.
My problem is, that after web browsing and having multiple tabs open, when I close each tab individually, the final page that always appears is the following -
http://artandcolour.blogspot.com/2011/02/study-in-blue.html. It never appears when I having been using only one tab.
This web page has never been accessed on my computer, so do not know how it is appearing like a home page each time I close off. Another interesting feature of this “rogue” web page is that it is not recorded in the Library list of accessed web pages.
Are you able to tell me how to block/delete it permanently?

I don't have a psycho ex, but I really don't want followers!! I wanna post whatever I post and the rest is my private life! Music is a very essential part of my life since I am a musician. So if, for example, I was listening to a certain set of songs, say, for an audition... someone who knows the set of songs knows I'm going to an audition. Probably I wouldn't mind but what if I did?? I couldn't do anything!
And yeah exactly, what if there's someone who you really don't want in your life or knowing about your private matters? Spotify still includes that person in your life cause "it's all about discovering new music". ?!?! I don't need to discover anything for anyone else. I can do all the discovering by myself if I choose so.
THIS IS REAAAALLY annoying!! Plus I was never told my account had suddenly been RE-connected to Facebook during a Spotify update, after I had with special effort managed to totally disconnect it.
I don't want FOLLOWERS, I don't want you to POST ANYTHING for me, I don't want you to SHARE anything for me, I just wanna LISTEN TO MUSIC, okay?!?
I rarely get very mad but this really pisses me off. I'm paying for this service and still they decide what I wanna do with it!
    Get it fixed NOW, please!

The following line tells me that this is not a template file, but a document created from a template called index.dwt
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><!-- InstanceBegin template="/Templates/index.dwt" codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" -->
This means that you saved a child document as a template file at some stage.
If you go to Modify->Templates->Detach from Template, you can remove the template structure from your document. All you then need to do is to re-save the document as a template.
