Web page font issues

Hello
I am see some strange font like this  from  on all the webpages I visit.
I think I should just see the ampersand symbol. Which I can type in email or even now &.
Is this a setting issue in Firefox or is it just that my old laptop running VISTA, service pack 2, 32bit has just seen better days?
thanks
Pete

Hello,
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. <br>
'''Note''': ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.''
*Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
'''For Firefox versions previous to 29.0:'''
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox"[[Image:Button reset]] button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
'''For Firefox 29.0 and above:'''
#Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Troubleshooting Information''.Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
#At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Reset Firefox"[[Image:Button reset]]. Click on it.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

  • How to make browser font (not web page fonts, I know how to do that) larger? Many older people need this.

Again not web page fonts. The font for the browser itself. The font for the menu, toolbars, ect. needs to be larger. My parents are 90 and 91 years young.

Use this extension to adjust the font size for the user interface:
*Theme Font & Size Changer: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/theme-font-size-changer/
    *Big Buttons: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/big-buttons/

  • Web page fonts not publishing correctly

so, when I view my web page it sometimes looks completely different than it does on iweb. I've used three different computers and it will look right one second - then I refresh or I make a change and re-publish and then it goes all screwy. does this sound remotely familiar to anyone?
I am using a font that is not standard on macs - a font that I purchased, would that make any difference? If so, that still doesn't make sense - because why would it work one minute and not the next.....??? stumped

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
I am using a font that is not standard on macs - a font that I purchased, would that make any difference?
Yes, that will be the reason. You can, however, get around that by turning the font box into a graphic. That's done by using the Font pane to add a drop shadow to the font and then moving the far right slider to the far left, making the shadow invisible.
Go into iWeb's preferences and check the box next to "Show text imaging indicator" as seen here. This will tell you when the text has become an image.
Otherwise you should use web safe fonts:
    Web Safe Fonts
Common fonts to all versions of Windows & Mac equivalents
    Safe web fonts

  • Safari: 27 min for loading Web page (JavaScript issue)

I have Safari running on Mac OS 10.7.1 (MacBook Pro). It works fine, except for some Web pages. For example, <http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/Erster-Kratzer-fuer-Kryptoalgorithmus-AES -1324532.html> gets loaded partly, then it takes minutes to have it completely on my screen (even the text).
In order to depict it, I started the Web inspector and put a screenshot of it for download.
As you can see, there are some JavaScript parts that gets interpreted as streams. This is what causes Safari to show a high latancy, up to 7 minutes. The whole page mentioned above took 27.1 minutes to load. The actual problem is that some parts that apparently are required to complete the page are loaded after some latency.
Switching off Safari Extensions, clearing the cache, and temporarily removing files in "/Library/Internet Plug-Ins" and "~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins" did not show any effect.
On the other side, Firefox 6 (on the same machine) does not have this issue. Its web console complains about "illegal characters", but the page gets completely loaded within fractions of a second.
    Any ideas?

The issue has been solved in the meanwhile. The problem was that I had NetBarrier X5 running in the background with Banners Filter switched on. Obviously this caused the massive delay in loading some Web pages with ads in it.

  • Browser Push Web Page Refresh Issue

When we are viewing a pushed web page on our BB 8830 device and that page is refreshed in the background by a seamless push content action from the BES the currently displayed page does Not refresh to display the updated content. This is the problem.  We have to exit the web page and re-open the page again in order to view the updates. This behavior is quite different from other push enabled applications on the BB 8830 device, for example the Outlook application that one does not have to exit in order to see new items dynamically appearing in the displayed list of items.  Are there any options to enable the automatic refresh of the currently visible web page?  We have enabled JavaScript and all other browser options.

  • Pages Font Issue

OK, long time Mac user (Original Mac, never owned a PC)
Everything was going well after install of 10.7.3.  had an email issue and had to access Time Machine to recover a bunch of sent emails.  In the process, had to repair permissions, etc and even had to do recover from Root login.  Got everything working and got back to work.
Open Pages document and got the following:
This seems to be related to just the ITCAvantGardeStd font we use as an office standard.  When some font is highlighted, it shows in the font window as the correct font, size, and weight.
The only other thing I can think of is a few weeks ago, we installed MS Word 11 (don't ask, gotta use it with a peice of software we use) and we had issues with fonts disappearing.  The web info stated that this was a known issue and that it had to do with the same fonts being in both user library and system libary.  I cleaned these up and everything worked, till yesterday.
Notice it is only the one font that is an issue.
    Thought?
    Thanks

I went to the Library (user:hidden one), trashed cache file suggested, restarted machine, verified cache file was gone, restarted Pages ...... same result.
As for font type, addressed above, font is an .otf type font. It has been working for a couple of years.
Also, someone above suggested to validate font, I did that, seems to be fine:
So, someone above asked if it worked in other programs, I was not sure I ever validated this. So, I went and checked:
    Numbers - same issue
MS Word 11 - When text was highlighted, it said it was ITC Advant Gard - but it wasn't - also, the font was not listed in the available fonts menu.
VectorWorks (CAD program) - it was not listed as available font.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks for help.

  • Web page display issues on iPad 1?

I've noticed a fairly significant problem on certain websites that feature floating info or navigation bars at the bottom of the page. Using various browsers on a PC, the info bar scrolls along with the page to always remain at the bottom of the window. On the iPad, the bar remains fixed when the page is scrolled, often times blocking info and links on the page.
I first noticed it on the YouTube site, but I've most recently had the same issue on the Kelley Blue Book site (http://www.kbb.com). There is a bar that appears at the bottom of the page to keep track of recent searches and stuff. In the case of the KBB site, I am aware that the bar can be minimized to get it motly out of the way, but tht isn't always an option. Is there a way to get the iPad to display this sort of page element properly?

This was driving me crazy as well on my brand-new days-old iPad, particularly since it seemed to only happen to mages on our portfolio site! And I, like you, tested several other iPads at the Apple Stores and Best Buys with different results.
In my case, resetting Safari's cache through Settings helped some images but then others would display oddly. Only after contacting AppleCare and being instructed to reset the Network settings (and then clearing Safari's cache again) has the problem finally gone away, and (knock wood) hasn't reared its ugly head again.
    Hope that helps!

  • Weirdness on my web page: 2 issues

    I am using NetBeans v 6, with Tomcat 6.
    1) My controls do not seem to preserve the values i give them. I have a dropdown combobox and a calendar control. Both get properly populated/initialized, when i first go to the page. I set them to autocommit on change, but no matter what I selected, from either the dropdown or the calendar, the new value is ignored and the old value remains when the page is refreshed.
    2) I even added a button, to refresh the page's contents, on turning autocommit off on the others, and no matter what I do, NONE of the event handlers I created are used. When I start Tomcat in debug mode, and I try to debug the application, with breakpoints in each of my event handlers, I NEVER reach my breakpoints, telling me that my even handlers are never called.
I have also seen problems with the session bean, where it complains one of the classes is not serializable. Is there any chance that the session bean isn't created and that this is causing problems with the page bean?
    How do I fix this?
    Thanks
    Ted
PS: I can provide the relevant JSP/JAVA source, but I see nothing in it to explain this. if you want to see it, specify precisely what you want to see.

    I worked it out.

  • Text font not going to web page defaults

Firefox appears to be using the "options" font type and color, rather than the web page font and color, despite the box being checked to allow the web page font to override the options font

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own fonts.
*Edit > Preferences > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced: [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
You can check the gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled pref on the <b>about:config</b> page and reset user set (bold) gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled prefs via the right-click context menu to the default value to make sure that you allow fonts to be downloaded.

  • Why are my web pages so small?

I've noticed when using my iPhone (3G) that some web pages, when double-clicked, briefly flicker, like they're trying to expand, but then they return quickly to their original mini size. Other web pages, when double-clicked expand to a larger more readable size. Why is this happening? Is this a web page design issue or is it inherent in the iPhone?

Not always. I've come across a few that don't resize. It's not common but it does happen.

  • How do I enlarge the font on web pages

how do I enlarge the font on web pages so that it stays that way all the time

    Funny thing today Thomas,
Someone had a link to your site which you mentioned your first virus, the WDEF, and I chuckled as we both had the same experience all these years.
Anyway Thomas, I call it as I see it and like any IT professional, use the best tool for the job.
Did you know Steve Jobs used Linux on his renderfarm at Pixar?
So really what the problem is people's sensibilities, which they shouldn't be worried about because like IE, because of Safari being included on hardware, automatically is the first browser of choice and in no danger of losing market share on Apple hardware.
However if Safari isn't quite cutting the mustard for a particular person's needs, like this person's situation, they should be informed of a alternate solution.
Safari doesn't have nearly the amount of customization as Firefox nor the zillions of add-ons to solve just about any issue.
If people decide not to take my advice that's their choice, and they choose not too, but likely, just in this case, will come to realize the same problem I had with increasing Safari's text size and distortion of web pages.
Soon as Apple starts paying attention to their needs of their hard of seeing customers better, like myself and others, then I will most certainly recommend Safari over Firefox.

  • How do I get OT fonts to stop distorting on Web pages (in Internet Explorer)?

I created a great-looking newsletter in Adobe InDesign CS4 (I work for a very large organization and am still waiting for newer software, sorry). It used Adobe OpenType fonts including Myriad Pro, Myriad Pro Black, and Adobe Caslon Pro. I selected "Optimize for web use" when exporting it.  Our Web team then placed the PDF on our web page, using FTP.  When people viewed the PDF in Internet Explorer 9, (again, my organization is slow to change) the fonts either were distorted or did not even look like text.  The same PDF looked fine in Google Chrome and IE 11. In addition to being held at ID CS4 and IE9, we are also at Acrobat Profession version 10.
I did three things to prevent this issue:
I reloaded the old PostScript versions of Myriad (from PageMaker) and Adobe Caslon into the Fonts subfolder of my InDesign application folder, to deal with the body text.
In InDesign, I clicked Edit, selected Transparency Flattener Presets, and created a new preset with the Convert All Text to Outlines box checked (see illustration below),
I created a new PDF Export preset, which compresses images down to 72, 72 and 150 DPI respectively but did NOT check the "Optimize for Fast Web View" box.  I also did NOT check"compress text and line art" in the dialogue box. I temporarily set Compatibility down to Acrobat 4, and then selected the new "textoutline" transparency flattener preset that I made in Step 2. I then reset Compatibility to Acrobat 8 and saved the preset (the transp0arency flattener is now selected but grayed out).
This stopped the distortion. (We continued to use Myriad Pro Black as a headline font). However, PostScript fonts are 20th Century. How can I use Adobe OpenType fonts in the future instead of PostScript fonts?

Still trying to solve the problem. It may be one of my Acrobat job options. Any ideas on how to get Adobe OpenType fonts NOT to pixilate in PDFs created in InDesign CS4 viewed on the Internet in older versions of Internet Explorer?

  • Display problems with allowing web pages to use their own fonts, both on and off.

I refer to the "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above" option in the Content > Advanced tab of the Options menu.
When I have this option unchecked, allowing my font choice to override the default non-image generated text for web pages, it seems that many icons and buttons on numerous sites are replaced by some sort of hex code malfunction. They appear as small boxes with four characters inside. I'm sure someone knows the official term for what these are and why they occur.
When I have the option checked, however, any non-image generated text on numerous websites appears as an ugly Stencil font that I simply cannot find the origin of. It should not be and clearly isn't the default font for all of these different sites. By "non-image generated text", I mean any text that is not incorporated into the design of the page.
This issue has persisted through several full re-installs. Any insight into a solution for one or both sides of this problem would be quite appreciated. Thanks for reading.

You would have to remove (uninstall) or reinstall the Georgia font if it is currently corrupted.
You can use the System File Checker to check for missing and corrupted font files.
It needs to be run from an Elevated Command Prompt.
Open a cmd.exe window as Administrator:
    Start, click Programs, click Accessories
Right-click Command Prompt, and choose "Run as administrator"
    Click past the UAC Screen
After the cmd.exe prompt, type: sfc.exe /scannow and press Enter
