Web pages very slow to load

I have just bought a Mac (3.1 GHz with 7 GB RAM) and have been very frustrated with the performance of Safari, Chrome and Firefox - specifically how long it takes web pages to load.
Chrome says 'sending request'.
Safari says 'contacting website' or 'loading http ....'
Firefox says 'connecting to website ....'
I am connected to a LAN via an ethernet cable and am connected to the internet via cable modem (BigPond).
My DNS servers are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.
I have cleared the history in the web browsers and have rebooted the machine many times.
What am I missing?
(My PC, connected to the same LAN, does not have the same problem.)
Many thanks for any help.

Let's stick with Safari.
Have you "reset Safari" from the Safari menu? You might try that.
Also, in System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DNS, have you entered the DNS server?
What does a speed test like http://www.bandwidthplace.com/
or one of the others show?

  • Web page VERY slow to load

I created a website in Dreamweaver CS3, but the gallery page loads very slow.  I believe it's from the images, but they want to keep all those images and that size.  I used IrfanView to compress the images but to me, the page still loads slow.  Here is the web page http://www.kmmcement.com/gallery.html.  Is there anything else I can do to help the web page load faster?  Thank you!

I think you're missing the point.
You need to actually resize each fullsize image to make a smaller image which will be your thumbnail. Then compress.
    e.g.http://www.kmmcement.com/gallery/DSC00486.JPG is 3264px x 2448px.
    1. You need to resize that image in Irfanview to 240px x 216px then compress it.
    2. Then insert the 240px x 216px thumbnail in your page. (Not the fullsize image which takes far too long to load)
    3. Then link each thumbnail to its fullsize version (3264 px x 2448px which is still too big dimensionally for a webpage)
    4. Same steps are required for all the fullsize images.

  • Web pages very slow to load if at all

I just bought my first Mac about 9 months ago...and was loving it until 7-10 days ago the web access has slowed to a crawl, and sometimes not at all. I also seem to recall it was about the time I updated some software.
I have tried several of the suggestions on these forums...adding DNS numbers, reversing DNS numbers....etc...nothing has worked thus far.
It also seems to have affected Firefox... is that possible?
Many times I cannot even access the web at all...I had to try about 6-7 times just to get to this Apple website.
I am wide open to any suggestions. Please note...I am only somewhat savvy regarding operating systems...so be gentle!!

    HI,
Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and move the "cache.db" file to the Trash.
If deleting the cache.db file doesn't help, go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
If it's not third party add-ons, troubleshoot the Safari .plist file.
Go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari and see if that makes a difference. If not, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder. If Safari functions as it should, move that .plist file to the Trash.

Web pages include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
And if you didn't repair disk permissions after the update, it would be beneficial to do so.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Web pages are slow to load up.

I am having trouble loading up web pages, they do eventually load but its very slow. I wan't to delete unwanted/ junk files how do i do this

The first thing you should do is check your internet connection, try it out here:
    http://www.speedtest.net
One important thing to note is to ignore the ads at ALL COSTS, that mac clean thing is NOT something you want
If your results are 5mbs or less, I would say its your internet connection to check.
Secondly, use an up to date browser such as chrome or safari. If you have any exemptions, turn them off.
Those are some tips I have, I have no clue how to remove junk files to speed up your browsing experience.
    Hope this helped

  • Since upgrading to ios8, pages very slow to load, and can no longer read items in my reading list when offline. ?????

SI since upgrading to ios8, Safari pages are very slow to load, Kindle crashes upon opening, and I can no longer read saved artices from my reading list when offline. Big disappointment. Is it possible to downgrade to previous ios?

I actually managed to fix it! But unfortunately I don't know what I was that I did that helped.
Anyways, this is kind of what I did.
    1. I tried to reset form bakup via iTunes, no change.
    2. I tried to reset as a new iPhone, problem still there and reading list also as bookmarks!? (several hundred)
    3. Noticed that I could delete a bookmark, once in a while, the other times I got the 'Bookmarks are being synced. Please edit the bookmarks once syncing has completed.' message.
    4. Because I figured that it was a memory problem, I thought it made sense to delete as many as possible, witch I did.
    5. Noticed that it was more likely that I coould delete a bookmark if I restarted Safari.
    6. Notice that it was even more likely that I could delete a bookmark if I turned the Safari sync with iCould off (with option detete information on iPhone) and then back on again.
    7. When I was about half way through deleting the bookmark list I suddenly discovered that all but one of the items in my reading list was 'waiting' and one was downloading. I kind of was 'unstuck' now.
    8. I started to delete items in my reading list, but every other time I got the 'Bookmarks are being synced. Please edit the bookmarks once syncing has completed.' message.
    9. It took a while to delete all bookmarks and items in the reading list.
Hope you guys could use the info here to fix your problems too!

  • Since a week or 2 Firefox has been loading web pages very slow. Or it does load them but it takes a good 3 seconds before i can scroll or enter anything.

This morning also it froze up for a good 10 seconds and then it loaded the web pages again. Especially when i am browsing on a forum and return to main page or something. It just takes ages before i can select anything. It loads somewhat slower also but the part of it that i cannot select anything or scroll down before it stops thinking.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Bookmarks+not+saved#w_fix-the-bookmarks-file
You can also try to repair the places database with this extension:
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Web Pages Very Slow To Open

I recently switched DSL providers. In the process, I got a new DSL modem. This is a 2Wire (2701HG) DSL modem. It has a wireless router built-in. I have the 2Wire modem connected to an eMac via ethernet. This works well. No matter what Web browser I use, Web pages load at a very fast rate. I also have a Time Capsule connected via ethernet to the 2Wire modem. Time Capsule provides wireless Internet service throughout the house. I use a MacBook in various rooms to connect wirelessly through Time Capsule. My dilemma? The so-called "latency" rate on the MacBook. When Web pages load on the MacBook, there is a 12-15 second delay before the page actually loads. If I connect the MacBook via ethernet cable directly to the 2Wire modem, Web pages load fast. Any idea what's causing the unacceptably slow loading of Web pages on the MacBook when it's connected to the Internet with a wireless connection via Time Capsule? The 2Wire modem's wireless router is turned on and password protected, but I don't use it. The Time Capsule is also on and password protected, and I'm trying to fix the latency rate when I use the MacBook with a wireless connection. Any suggestions? Would disabling the 2Wire's wireless signal solve the problem? I'm using DHCP on Time Capsule. Does a setting need to be adjusted using Airport Utility? I have reset the Time Capsule numerous times, adjusted the Time Capsule's settings, but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated. If you need more info about the modem or Time Capsule settings, I will provide it. The Time Capsule is not a bridge, it's just set up as a wireless router. Thanks.

You should only have one router on a home network (as its function is to translate a single public IP address to multiple private addressed on your LAN). If you have the 2Wire and TC both configured as routers, slow connection or no connection would be the likely result.
Suggestion would be to choose "Add New Network Device" when setting up the TC and add it as an Access Point. This will provide wireless connectivity and ensure that only one device is doing network address translation. My network is setup in this exact way (when an Airport Extreme router and a TC added as an Access Point) and I have not experienced any problems with 4 Macs that connect wirelessly.

  • Pages VERY slow to load since downloading Firefox 6.0. How do I fix or reinstall old version please!

Since I downloaded the latest version - 6.0 of Firefox, I am having serious slowness of page loads. Nothing has changed in my PC or Network configuration and in the past have had very fast loading of everything - even streaming of videos, etc. The only thing I found in your help about all pages loading slowly was something about a proxy add ons issue - but I don't have that enabled. It seems to be even worst when I am submitting a form -

Is that the answer to everything. How about a real fix. Pages refuse to load. If you hit the stop loading page button and then hit refresh, the page will load. If you don't the page will try to load forever. I left a page for over a hour and it never did load. If Firefox releases one more update like this I'm done. I tried to go back to Firefox 5.0, but now whatever they did to screw up 6.0 is doing the same to 5.0. I tried deleting Firefox and starting over with a fresh install for both, but still just garbage. Also, the whole time I've been typing this another page in another tab as been trying to load. Is Firefox updating without testing this stuff because there is a security problem? Rats!

  • Pages very slow to load

    Hello,
All of the sudden my Safari is very slow, and pages take almost one entire minute to load.  Is there anyway I can speed this up or clean up my system?

  • Web pages are slow to load

I have a pretty good but basic understanding of web site
management but have discovered during testing that some of my sites
are pretty slow to respond. I understand how to set image densities
to 72ppi for monitor display and have been pretty consciencous
about that, but I'm finding that certain sites I have built are
still slow in spite of my best efforts.
Obviously there are some techniques I could use a little
    education on.
Without getting too exotic, are there some simple, common
practices designers use to help the load speed of web pages?
I'm using simple html (no dynamics) and are just dealing with
    text and images.
If you need to see an example, this site's homepage sometimes
can take a bit to load. I did say "sometimes" so obviously not all
the loading issues are design related. PLEASE note this is a PG-13
site (no porn or anything too bad; just adult humor and comment).

    Thanks
    Tom

That particular page is 257K. As such, it will take about 60
    seconds to
completely load when accessed on a 56k dialup connection.
    There is no magic
about this effort to minimize this loading time -
    1. Use as few images as you can
    2. Those images that you use should be no larger
    (dimensionally) than the
smallest you can get away with to deliver the look/message
    3. Those images that you use should be optimized (by reducing
    their
quality) until they are almost unacceptable
That is about all you can do.

  • Recently, all pages VERY slow to load (home page 1 min+ !!)

Recently - certainly since last FF update - all web pages are painfully slow to load. Even my Google homepage can take well over a minute. Kaspersky full system scan says no viruses, trojans or malware detected. Even after page loads, it can take up to another half minute before I can interact with the page (e.g. use the scroll bar). It's driving me mad! Any suggestions highly appreciated. Many thanks.

I have been having this problem for a couple of weeks now. Slow start up page! It takes a good 45 seconds to load, and then is blank and white for another 12-30 seconds. I do not have Kaspersky. I am running Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx. I have ran scans, and they say I am bug free.
I have been to many forums and firefox "Help" pages, and nothing (I can understand anyway) has helped! This is crazy! Can someone help?

  • Flash Web Pages Very Slow

Hi all, i've noticed on my iBook G4 1.33, 1GB, OSX 10.4.7 that any web pages that contain flash are really slow and not very responsive. I appreciate that flash movies are probably more intensive to the machine but having come from the PC where flash makes no difference regardless of your spec im finding it a little frustrating. Am i doing something wrong?
    Cheers

    aghh right,
basically on both the links above, i have no problems,
my problems are whenever there is flash ads or flash movie
streams, my scrolling is so bad, i have to go back to the old
    fashion drag the bar.
i did actually think i had cured it with a reinstall of flash
    player, but its back again.
as much as it pains me to say this....iam real tempted to go
    back to the dreaded I.E.
as my main interests are gaming, virtually all my sites i
visit are every flash orientated, so to be honest, i dont know what
    to do.
one thing for sure its dam annoying.

  • EPM Web Pages very slow to render

I've installed Foundation Services on a Windows 2008 box with a single dual core CPU, 4GB RAM.
When I launch Workspace, the web page takes at lease 5 minutes to render. In addition launching any applciation within Workspace e.g. Shared Services, it also take about 5 minutes to render.
Any suggestions on what I should check to resolve this?

  • Web page is slow to load and sometimes it loads a script first befor loading page

I have had this problem for some time now, it takes about a minute to load a page and some times it comes up with a load of text before the page loads, it looks like the script for the page, I am running Linux Ubuntu 14.10 64 bit. I should like to point out that I have had Firefox a very long time and have never had any problems before.

Try enabling hardware acceleration. Menu>Preferences>Advanced>General and then check the box that says "Use hardware acceleration when available".
If that doesn't work, try starting Firefox in safe mode (Click menu then click the question mark at the bottom then click Restart with add ons disabled)
Thats just in case one of your add ons is starting the problem
    Have a great day!

  • User profile page very slow to load

    Hello,
the page that displays information about a user's profile loads very slowly. I occasionally try to visit the profile page of OTN forum users, to know the little they wish to disclose about their name, job, area,... an it's not unusual to wait for a good 30s for this page, when most of the forum page (topics listing, thread,...) display in under 10 seconds.
Of course I prefer it that way than the other way round, but 30s is around the limit of usability, whereas the info displayed there seems to deserve no complex query (ah, the points total, maybe...).

    It seems the profile page is not very well served indeed, I also pointed out this bug in the forum markup: {thread:id=2129240}

I think it's something to do with the single sign on for the site, and the fact that the profile details are all stored in a central server somewhere rather than with the forum server itself.Ah, yes, that's likely, since indeed one can freely browse the forums listing, topics, etc... but in order to view a profile page one has to be logged in.
And maybe the profile page are even served by another server, if the same profile page is used in other areas enrolled in the same SSO domain.
    Regards,
    J.
