Web pages won't open full screen

my web pages will not maximize to a full screen for some reason. Any ideas??

Mmmm ... curiouser and curiouser ...
Just to update my progress since my original post yesterday ...
I contacted my service provider to check my settings, and was told there was no problem with their server and that I appeared to be connected OK.
I doubled checked my router settings (I'm using a router connected through Ethernet, not a wireless connection). All was as it should be (I just changed the DNS Server addresses to ones my service provider gave me) and managed to view the router's home page (NetGear), as confirmation that I was connected OK.
I checked the Network Diagnostics on my iMac and everything was fine, I was connected to the internet.
I reinstalled the bundled software that came with my iMac (Safari etc.), then checked the Network Diagnostics again ... everything was still fine!
But obviously it's not!
I can get Google and all it's related bits ... Images, Maps, News etc., to work fine. I can get Google Earth to work fine. I can access a simple website that is just a home page with one link to a large 60page PDF and view that fine. I can view a handful of other sites fine.
But when I attempt to view most other sites, it seems to connect, begin opening, and then just stop! I don't get the Safari box saying it can't be opened. It doesn't crash. It just stops! Reloading the page takes it to the same stage of opening, and again, no more.
By a process of elimination, it must be a Safari issue, either a glitch or some conflict somewhere? Either way it's a tad frustrating!!

  • Web pages won't open

I'm having issues opening ALOT of pages on the web. They simply stall and never fully open. This issue is always with commercial sites. In the info bar at the bottom, they consistently show the page hanging up on a single component of some kind.
    I'll use Amazon.com as an example. If I try to open the site in Safari, nothing happens, and the info states;
    Loading "http://www.amazon.com/", completed 5 of 6 items.
I'm not completely sure if it's simply not opening, or has an incredibly long delay since I never get an error message. Typically after waiting 5 minutes or so, I cancel and use my backup browser.
I've done the basics like empty cache, but nothing.
    TIA for any thoughts.

    MacOSX 10.3.9
    Safari 1.3.2

    Hi Alathe,
I do use Norton products; Autoprotect and Personal Firewall. I'm pretty sure the problem began well after installing these, but again, it's been a while. I'll shut them down and see if it makes a difference.
No you haven't been forgotten. Please read through my post before
    taking any action.
Using Norton is not a good thing, you should uninstall it.
It is not compatible with 10.3.9 the firewall is probably blocking the sites or interfering with your router. Problems do not manifest immediately.
    • For now go to the Activity Monitor found in Applications/ Utilities folder
"All Process" find any & all Norton processes, click on it/ them and "Quit" them.
    • Then go to System preferences -> Accounts -> Start up item tab & highlight any Norton items there use the minus [-] to remove them.
    • See the info in this topic thread, he had crashing,& Internet connectivity problems it was Norton causing the issue.Safari crashes...takes out internet connection
    • Follow the link to the links, to the Uninstaller look for your specific NOrton product that you use. You will need the original Cd/dvds of norton.
The Original poster's, Norton uninstaller DID work for him, though there has been an issue with the uninstallers functioning, so see if Norton support has any info on your exact products uninstaller working as well.
Look to see if it has left some files behind depending again on the Norton you have installed. If the uninstaller does not work do the following:
Download and run Cocktaill in "Interface" > "Finder" choose
to see "invisibles". Or use OnyX it has a show invisible files.
Make sure to get the right version of either tool for os Panther.
    After the unistall.
Look for files like these on the top level of your hard drive:
    /Norton FS Volume 2
    /NAV Mac 800QS File
    /Norton FS Data 808K
    /Norton FS Volume
    /Norton FS Index
Find those files drag them (not command-delete) to
    the trash and empty it.
Know that Uninstalling norton has been known to & can cause Kernel panics it was true for my machine & others, including a user here in Safari very recently. At least you will know what the origin is if that happens.
If you have never seen a kernal panic, a blackish gray window comes down the screen, in 3-4 Languages asking you to restart. DON"T PANIC as well.
    The computer is basically confused.
    Autoprotect and Personal Firewall
Version and yr. is necessary to pinpoint them on the Norton site
I will however look to see what there is on them, on uninstalling.
Stop the processes for now, know disabling does not make a difference
really in the function of the os per se. All those files and whatnots are still there.
Good luck ! Let us know how you fare.
    Any Questions please post back.

  • Web pages won't load, solution needed. Mac issue

Hi, I don't cannot find how properly to contact apple support so try get in tuoch in this section. So, recently I purchased macbook pro 13 Serial Number  ********DTY3, now it's been about two months since I'm using my mac, I thought this is the best product, but getting dissapointed. The main issue which currently expierencing ( about few weeks now ) is that time to time web pages won't opening, even now then I try to open thesun page I get internal errorsaying:   ''Internal communication error'' and page wont load at all. I'ts becoming more often and often. Honestly it's really annoying especially when you working on something and you need the page opened, I mean right now. I tried to use opera, google chrome, safari and all the same, if the page wont load in one browser, it wont load in another as well. Tried on win 7 on other laptop, working fine. I thought this is some history or cache issue, so I tried to clean it on daily regular basis, but it doesn't work. Once again this kind of issue becoming more common in daily using, so thinking of leaving apple or in case I get working solution, should I get my mac into the shop and technicans can check it, or I just returned to apple.?   (All mac is fully updated with latest updates including web browsers)

  • Have reset Firefox & completed all of steps in "Flash video won't play full screen on YouTube, Facebook and other websites", but video still won't work. Help!

I have reset Firefox, completed all the steps in "flash video won't play full screen on YouTube, Facebook and other websites". And the video still won't play in full screen. It will play, but frequently stops or sound continues and picture freezes. I have noticed that if I continually move my mouse, it plays fine. All these videos play fine in IE and Chrome.

Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems|this article]] for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:
#Go to this [http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues Adobe Flash Player Help page].
#Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
#Click on '''Settings''' in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
    # Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel. <br/> <br/>[[Image:fpSettings1.PNG]] <br/>
    # Remove the check mark from '''Enable hardware acceleration'''.
    # Click '''Close''' to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
    # Restart Firefox.
This [http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help01.html Flash Player Help - Display Settings page] has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.
Does this solve the problem? Let us know.

  • I keep getting "Reminders" that some web page cannot be opened, even when I'm not online or on the Internet, and I'd like to stop it.

For days now, a "Reminder" box pops up on my screen every few minutes. It's followed by whatever the date is. It always says that a Web page cannot be opened and to try various things, even though I'm not online or trying to open any page. I can get rid of it by opening the task manager (control, alt, delete), but it comes back in a few minutes. I tried "System Restore" but that's not working, for an unrelated reason. I'd like to stop this annoying reminder. Thanks.

  • Firefox froze up. So I removed from computer and reloaded. If I close Firefox, can't restart by clicking on the icon. Have to end process in Task Manager. It then starts. Some links on some web pages won't work.

    Hi,
As I say in the question I don't know what happened but Firefox just stopped operating and then became erratic. So I removed the firefox programme from my computer and reloaded Firefox.
It now runs normally but I can't run Firefox on two tabs, only one, and if I close it down during a session I can't reopen it using the desk top icon. I go to task manager, processes, and end process for Firefox - then I can start it using the icon on the desktop.
I have also noticed that some links on a web page won't work - javascript is involved.
    Thanks for your herlp,
    Mike FD

It sounds like you are getting in a hurry.
If you force Firefox to close in a hurry, then it won't normally start until you re-start the computer. There are ways around this, but I'm not going to go into them right now.
None-force way to close Firefox down: Close the program and wait. Do something else. Firefox appears as if it is closed, but it's not. Firefox cleans out cookies and it's cache after you close it. That takes a few minutes. You can't restart it while it's doing house cleaning.
After it is done, then you can restart Firefox normally. You can watch it in the Task Manager.
The same applies if you are installing javascript. You have to wait a few minutes.
As for running it with multiple tabs, I usually have 5 or 6, or more, tabs open at a time. Have no idea what the problem is there. Firefox needs special permission by use of a pop-up option to close with multiple tabs open.

  • Word docs don't open full screen on iBook

My brother, up in Maine, I'm in NY, has an iBook with Word X on it. (I don't know the version of OSX he has but he probably hasn't updated it since he bought it... I am not sure of the model of his iBook either. I can find out.) His main complaint is that Word documents don't open full-screen (once he drags the window to fill the screen) upon reopening or with new blank documents.
I am wondering if Word doesn't like certain screen resolutions. I don't know what he is using now but I have suggested he try some others. Does anyone know if Word docs won't act right under certain screen resolutions? Or if it is something else, what can we do so that docs open fully.
He bought the Mac thinking it was easier to use but this one thing has kept him from using it at all! He is using this for his business, a used book shop, and would use Word to list books. I hope to fix this so he can see the value of the Mac.
    Cheers,
    John
(who's been using Macs for years.)

We really need to know which version of the OS he is using, and the iBook model would be good to know, too.
You may want to poke around on Microsoft's Mactopia and see if there are some hints for him there.

  • So just the document I was last working on in pages won't open. I can't email it either it just sits preparing the document no matter what format I try. I can copy it, but the copies don't open either.

So just the document I was last working on in pages won't open. I can't email it either it just sits preparing the document no matter what format I try. I can copy it, but the copies don't open either. I tried deleting documents in pages as well as the app and reinstalling it, but nothing has helped.

Try quitting Pages and then reset your iPad.
Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app.
Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • On Clicking Entrance hyberlink, wanting Flash to open Full Screen

    Hi,
Hopefully, someone can offer their expertise-
If you go to my website "entrance" page, you will notice the
"flash" side of my site as "Studio Entrance".
In the html code, I would like to have the visitor to the
site, click on "Studio Entrance" and then the flash site open FULL
    SCREEN.
Because the images are 900x600, I need as much screen real
estate as possible. I notice that even though some computers are
1024x768, sometimes they have to "scroll" to the bottom of the
flash site to see the links.
    PLEASE HELP!
If you view the page source on the index page, you will of
    course, see the coding.
I attempted to insert your suggestions to another user but no
    luck.
My email address is: [email protected]
    I sincerely appreciate your help.

    The flash swf has
    'width="1000" height="700"
You could set it to width 100%
Has its merits and demerits. Test it on different resolutions
    and see if it
    works for you
The flash swf file has a height of 700px. Most users will end
    up having to
scroll. Same for the page with the pic.
You could put the navigation links both at the top and
    bottom. Regardless
with a height of 700px, viewers with 800x600 px resolution or
    even 1024x768
will not see the entire flash content. Should try and not
    exceed height of
450 px or 500px. Would also reduce the size of the file
You cannot lose until you give up !!!

  • Since upgrade to 3.6.7 the emoticons window on a forum I use always opens full screen, not as a small window. How can I get it to open as a small screen again.

Since upgrading to 3.6.7, when I go to a forum I'm active on and click the emoticons icon in the reply box, the emoticons window opens full screen, and not as a small screen like it did before. I can click on the box to make it small again, but next time I open it, it's back to full screen. Ok, not a major problem, but really rather annoying. I've tried to find a way to get it back to opening the way it did before, but to no avail. Does anyone know how I can solve this little problem?
    == I upgraded to 3.6.7

No-one got any ideas on this then? It's definitely a firefox problem, as when I open the forum page (mentioned in the OP) with Opera or Chrome, the emoticons window opens as a small window, same as FF used to before the upgrade.

  • Reader XI do NOT want opening FULL SCREEN!

I am running Adobe Reader XI Version 11.0.2 on a Dell Windows 7 workstation with dual monitors.  We generally have a dozen applications open and we bounce all around between them.  Whenever I open a PDF document which ever monitor it was opened on last, it will open maximized on the display.  I do *NOT* want it to open maximized and I have searched high and low, tried setting Preference settings for Full Screen, Documents, everything I can find and no matter what I do, as soon as I open a PDF it's full screen.  I can get it to change how the document appears in the full screen view, like fit page or zoom to width, but it always opened FULL SCREEN!
How do I turn this feature OFF?!?!?!?!?!

I think I found the cause of the issue.  In my case, I use the Adobe Customization Wizard XI to create a transform file for installation.  One of the options I have enabled is under Direct Connect.  Under the "Property" table I have the option DISABLE_BROWSER_INTEGRATION set to YES.  I originally set this value because I didn't want PDFs to open within IE in my environment, I wanted it to open in Acrobat.  I found that in version XI, the usual place to control this setting within Acrobat was no longer there.  In previous versions, I would go to Edit > Preferences > Internet and enable/disable the option to "Display PDF in browser".
The workaround that I have done for now is create a separate transform file with the option set to NO.  I uninstall Acrobat and reinstall it with the new transform file.  To prevent PDFs from opening within IE, I have to go into Manage add-ons within IE and disable the "Adobe PDF Reader" add-on.  The problem is that disabling the add-on within IE is profile-specific, which means that if I have multiple users that share the same computer, I will have to change that setting for each user, which is a bit inconvenient.
I was hoping that this setting would be as easy as finding it in the registry somewhere and changing it there, but no such luck for me.  I looked over the registry and didn't see where the key or value was located.  Hopefully someone else with more knowledge than me can solve this puzzle.

  • Particular web page won't print

Running Safari with latest Mavericks  update, one particular web page won't print on my ethernet connected HP laser printer (Laserjet P2015). The page is at bialetti.com ( Italian coffeemmaker machine co.). When I try to print the page, the printer job page says it's connected and ready to print but instead it sends the printer into a series of error lights starting with both paper jam and low ink then going to noi paper. After a minute or so it reboots itself and returns to a single green light indicating it's ready to print. The job screen then says "broken pipe". What confounds me is that any other web page will print with no problem. What could cause this?

I have tried the pdf route but with the same result. I can print a German eBay posting from Safari but not this Italian site. Another iMac with Mavericks on the same network has the same problem. Connecting to the printer over Wi-Fi or ethernet also refuses to print the page. I may contaqct Hp as the sequence of trouble lights that occur may give them a clue.

Please elaborate on what exactly you mean by it "won't open".
Do you try to launch it and get an error message from the Finder (for example, something like "This application is damaged and cannot be launched....")? Does an icon for the application ever appear in the Dock when you try to launch it? Does it start to launch and then immediately crashes (Finder will display an "unexpectedly quit" dialog)? Or does it start to launch and never seems to "finish" launching (in other words, it basically hangs and is unresponsive)?
If the application crashes, please post the contents of the crash log here.
Otherwise, if the application seems to be hanging, can you, before attempting to launch it, open the Console.app application (it's in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder), and see if anything is reported when you attempt to launch it? If so, please post it here.
