Web performance caching

We are troubleshooting some odd WordPress behavior. The (offsite) developer suspects that web performance caching is to blame, and I've been trying to figure out how to disable it in OS X Server v10.6.8. I understand that previous versions included this as a clickable option in within the Server Admin WebServer settings, but this is no longer the case.
So, I am wondering (a) if this web performance caching is even an issue at all with this version of OS X Server; and (b) if it is, how I might disable it via Terminal.
Any help/advice appreciated...I should mention that my knowledge of this is extremely basic/superficial (if that isn't already obvious!)...

the old/original web performance cache was oddly/poorly implemented as a proxy and did cause lots of problems.
Fortunately Apple ditched it in favor of the standard Apache mod_cache modules. The are enabled by default in httpd.conf:
LoadModule cache_module libexec/apache2/mod_cache.so
LoadModule disk_cache_module libexec/apache2/mod_disk_cache.so
LoadModule mem_cache_module libexec/apache2/mod_mem_cache.so

BI Web Template Caching on EP server

Hello,
We are developing BI web templates in the BI Web Application Designer and then previewing (via publishing) them with the EP web server. When we make a change to the report/template and republish/preview it to the EP server, the old version remains in the EP web server cache.
Also to note, this is PRIOR to creating BI iviews and incorporating them in EP, so our assumption is that the cache settings in EP iviews do not apply in this case, but that it a broader issue with the EP web server or application itself.
So far, we have tried clearing the overall PCD EP cache under sys admin support section and that does not work. The only way to get the latest content to show up via preview/republish is to restart the EP instance which clears the cache.
Is there any other place cache can be cleared or a setting that will allow the BI previewer and ALL content (i.e. iviews as well) to ALWAYS get the latest and greatest version??

hi Dave,
cpl of questions are you on a federated network or are you using any proxy to access the portal? usually it will be slightly delayed some times based on the proxy cache. how are you adding the reports to role through delta link or copy?
When using the portal cache, data updates can appear with a delay.

Web performance test is used to test if a server responses correctly and the response is consistent with what we expected. And we test the response speed, the stability and scalability.
The Web Performance Test Recorder records both AJAX requests and requests that were submitted from JavaScript, but
web test does not execute JavaScript. I am afraid that you can’t use web test to test parameter past by AJAX or JavaScript.

From the first link, “Client-side scripting that sets parameter values or results in additional HTTP requests, such as AJAX, does affect the load on the server and might require you to manually modify the Web Performance Test to simulate the scripting.”
If you want to execute the function typically performed by script in web test, you need to accomplish it in coded web performance test or a web performance test plugin. Please see:

I am not sure what the ‘some attribute on the page’ is. If you mean that you want to test those controls on the page, you can do coded UI test, which can test that the user interface for an application functions correctly. The coded UI test performs actions
on the user interface controls for an application and verifies that the correct controls are displayed with the correct values. You can refer to this article for detailed information about code UI test:

Using Test Setting file to run web performance tests in different environments

Hello,
I have a set of web performance tests that I want to be able to run in different environments.
Currently I have csv file containing the url of the load balancer of the particular environment I want to run the load test containing the web performance tests in, and to run it in a different environment I just edit this csv file.
Is it possible to use the test settings file to point the web performance tests at a particular environment?
I am using VSTS 2012 Ultimate.

Instead of using the testsettings I suggest using the "Parameterize web servers" command (found via context menu on the web test, or via one of the icons). The left hand column then suggests context parameter names for the parameterised web server
URLs. It should be possible to use data source entries instead. You may need to wrap the data source accesses in doubled curly braces if editing via the "Parameterize web servers" window.

ActiveX Control recording but not playing back in a VS 2012 Web Performance Test

I am testing an application that loads an Active X control for entering some login information. While recording, this control works fine and I am able to enter information and it is recorded. However on playback in the playback window it has the error "An
add-on for this website failed to run. Check the security settings in Internet Options for potential conflicts."
Window 7 OS 64 bit
IE 8 recorded on 32 bit version
I see no obvious security conflicts. This runs fine when navigating through manually and recording. It is only during playback where this error occurs.

As you said that you could not playback the Active X control successfully in web performance test. I know that the ActiveX controls in your Web application will fall into three categories, depending on how they work at the HTTP level.

I found that this confusion may be come from the browser preview in the Web test result viewer. The Web Performance Test Results Viewer does not allow script or ActiveX controls to run, because the Web performance test engine does not run the, and for security
reasons.

How does one disable the Performance Cache in Leopard Server?

Hello all,
we do need to disable "Performance Cache" in Webservice.
This was possible in 10.4 and 10.3 just by unchecking a box.
Now we cannot find this control option anywhere.

Show-stopper Connecting web performance test to remote DB2 server as data source

Hi All,
We are running TFS2010 on VS2010 Ultimate on 2003 server SP-2 with IE 8 for web applications.
We are working on conducting load tests in web-service. Previously we did that using data source from MS SQL to connect our web performance tests. Now we have a new requirement: changing our
data source from MS SQL server to DB2 for good. The DB2 server is in a separate network. I am struggling how I can connect to the DB2 server. For the beginner the firewall setup is being taken care of with a separate initative. So I am a bit startled on how
to connect to DB2 server from Visual Studio. Any help would be highly appreciated.
Please let me know how we can accomplish this goal. Appreciate a lot.

Actually the real issue in this thread is related to the DB2.

Web performance test using Ultimate VS2012 is possible?

According to your description, you mean that you want to set the breakpoint and debug the web performance test during using the recorder to record this web performance test, am I right?
As far as I know that there have no this feature of breakpoint/debugger in web performance test.
Generally, we set the breakpoint and debug this coded web performance test after we finished this web performance recording.

Prevent JNLP from being cached in the Java Web Start cache

Hi,
when i launch a JNLP it's always being cached in the Java Web Start cache. Is there a way to prevent it from being cached? Some attribute/property inside it?

Set the http headers in the response from the server when the client downloads the jnlp file.
eg Cache-control no-cache
Expires (use same date as "date" header)
Note that over SSL on Internet Explorer 8 this will not work. All other configurations should be ok.

405 Method Not Allowed in Web Performance Chat

Hi,
I have created a new Web Performance Chat and I am using 2 url to test. The 2 url's are
http://localhost14597/Login.aspx
https://www.google.co.in
When ever I am using localhost, its working fine. If I use any website, the result shows "405 Method Not Allowed" error. I have attached screenshots of the error for easier understanding of the issue.
Can you please let me know what could be the issue.

Getting Timeout Error when running web performance Webtest using App-Insights

Hi All,
I have created web performance test using VSTS 2013. When I am running this test using App-Insights (Azure Version) I am getting error "Web Test exceeded the configured timeout (00:02:00) and was aborted." In webtest property I set timeout limit
is 300 Sec. still webtest is timeout in 2 min. Kindly let me know Is this problem of App-Insights (Azure Version) or webtest?

Sandip, Application Insights (both the Azure and VSO versions) override the timeout internally to a max of 2 minutes. No web tests in AI can run for longer than 2 minutes.

WebI performance on Bex query

I have gone thru most of the earlier treads on topics of improving WebI performance.
But I was not able to find solution hence posting another tread.
I have a Bex query built on a Multi provider with
- 12 characteristics (1 in row remaining as free char).
- 12 Key figure mainly dealing with 1 original KF and other as restricted with different time period like YTD.
in WebI query panel I am using all the 12 char and 12 KF, but not used as default view in the Webi document.
The 1 char in the row is a profit center with hierarchy enabled.
When I run the report in bex the output comes in less than 10 secs
but when I run the output in WebI the output takes more than 8-9 minutes and sometimes dumps out.
Now since we comparing apples to apples between Bex and WebI .. please provide me some solution/suggestion for how to improve the performance of my WebI report.
Note: When I remove Sold-to and Material from the webI query panel the report takes arnd 4-5 minutes but we need these 2 in the webi report for sure.

Global Performance Cache and GPU

Nvidia's website says: The Global Performance Cache feature makes After Effects faster and more responsive than ever before by taking full advantage of the power of your computer's hardware. NVIDIA GPUs allow you to accelerate previews when drawing images to the screen for a highly interactive experience.
does the global performance automatically use the gpu or do you have to enable it? and is this a good reason to invest in a good gpu or not really?

The global peformance cache has nothing whatsoever to do with the GPU or Nvidia. See this for details of the cache features:

Does the Adobe Web Viewer Cache the pages or your publication? I guess what im trying to ask, is it possible for someone to randomly come across one of our articles on the web through a search engine?

Yes.
If you don't mind waiting for the cache files to re-generate
to your newly designated location... delete away without consequence.
