Web Posting and Compression Help....

I need to find a compression format that will Allow for a 720i (SD) or 1080i (HD) to be exported to the web.....
My requirement is to have a quick download time, smallest file size and highest image size and quality....I know
it is a balancing act.
(The export resolution can be lower then the original)
I am open to m4v,MP4,mov or any other format that will play in a simple web window.
I would prefer not to user any form of FLASH.
I would prefer to stay i FCP if possible.
If using compressor what settings do you suggest a setting for 4:3 and 16:9 images.
Currently I am exporting files in FCP in QT H.264 format at 320x240...the image is clean loads fast,
but clients are asking me to give them a larger image.
Does anyone have suggestions and detailed instructions on how to make this happen.....

Just save a cpy of and then change the frame size of the preset you're using.
Your prerequisites are incompatible and mutually exclusive. Getting clients to understand the limitations of online video is nearly impossible.
Quick download time is not controlled by you, it's the network and the machine. A small file will still take forever to download over a dialup but a movie in HD can come down without a glitch on aggregated T1s.
The ratio of file size over image quality is acheived with H.264 or proprietary codecs.
There is no simple answer to this, only compromises. In the streaming world, providers look at the available bitrate and adjust all parameters to fit the pipe including image size, frame rate, audio compression, and keyframes.

Quality, Export, and Compression help (pic included)

I'm working on an edit of my RTW trip and am struggling to figure out some quality issues. Video was captured by 3 cameras (a JVC everio, a GoPro Hero 2, and a Droid 4). All record in HD (720 or 1080). I figured I would use the lowest common denominator and converted all the video in MPEG streamclip to be 1280x720 HD, using Apple Intermediate Codec and 100% quality. I have the whole timeline basically finished in FCE, but I'm trying to refine it now and I'm really bothered by the quality. It doesn't look HD at all...it looks really pixelated. Below is a screenshot of my viewer, which is at 100%. Note the edges where the blue arrows point-they're all jagged.
It looks decent at 100% but that is not even 1/6th of my screen. If I go up to 200% it looks like crap. Is this just because I'm editing on a 26" iMac and my screen is so big that I need 1080p or 4K to look good at full screen? When I cropped the 100% screenshot in Preview I noticed that it is 640x360 pixels...exactly half of 1280x720 like I would expect. Why is that? How do I get the quality to be like it should? Am I losing it in MPEG Streamclip or Final Cut? I haven't even started the export battle, which always infuriates me with how bad the quality comes out if the video is a reasonable file size (This video is 5m40s, I feel like 100MB or less is reasonable for streaming right?)

1.) Any advice for resizing the 1080 clips?
Go to the first clip in your timeline that is 1080 and looks incorrectly sized. Double click on that clip in the timeline, you will see the clip open in the Viewer. Once it does that, in the Viewer, click on the Motion tab, and then adjust the Scale paddle until the frame is just filled. Once that is done, type Command + C to copy the clip and the settings adjustment you made.
Now go to the next instance of a 1080 clip in your timeline and click on it to select it. If there a bunch together you can hold down the shift key while you click on the clips and select as many as you want at a time. Once you have made the selection, type Option + V to paste the attributes from the clip you had just copied. The Paste Attributes window should open, and you want to check the Basic Motion box and keep everything else unchecked. Then click OK, and the clips you had selected should now all be resized.
2.) Some of the clips still have blurry frames. Now that I have the sequence totally edited and don't need to trim/move clips all the time, if I use the raw source video (not optimized for Final Cut via MPEG streamclip and the Apple Intermediate Codec) in Final Cut, will the quality be better or will it be the same/not work at all?
Final Cut Express will only work with HD material in Apple Intermediate codec. You were smart to convert the footage prior to editing. Are the clips that look blurry the 1080 clips? At any rate, you may need to render your timeline, see if any colored render bars are showing on the timeline (rendering will occur automatically when you export your finished movie).

Different values in halp input of web interface and infoobject

I created a web interface with selector variable value with appearance help input. If I display this web interface and use help input, values will be displayed. But these values are different to the master data of the appropriated InfoObject in SAP BW. What could be the problem?

There is a difference in the way the Web Interface that reads data and the Way Bex reads the Master data in the F4.
For Web reads the data directly from the Master Data tables...but in Bex especially the system generated Infoobjects get data from other system tables.

Building slideshows for emailing and the web. ie. compressing, max file si

I need to build a slide show for work with music and wish to email it as well as post it on my website. First, do you recommend using the full size files when building the slide show or resizing them first to help with the compression later. Second, after building the slide show should I export it to imovie and then to quicktime where I can compress it or do you recommend any third party applications? Most important is to use as many images as possible, add music, keep the quality as high as possible and then be able to send it over the web.
Any suggestions would be great,

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
1. No matter what app or format you use if you want to
keep the quality as high as possible
you're going to have a large movie file - very likely too large to email.
2. iPhoto has a limited enough ability to make slideshows that are cut to music. You can make the entire thing in iMovie or in an app such as PhotoToMovie or Final Cut Express. All of these have greater export options than iPhoto. Here's an example of such a thing made in Final Cut Express: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpIdFcoYsss. The file was exported at HD quality and compressed by YouTube. If Final Cut is beyond your budget then my next choice would be PhotoToMovie.
3. Don't compress the files in any way until exporting as a movie, you're only adding to the damage.

I'm trying to take a 16 minute mini dv video and compress it for use on the web. I'm interested in any suggestions you may have on settings for the video and audio tracks. I've tried using Sorenson 3 (15 frames, key frames set to automatic, 320 x 240) for video and IMA 4:1 (mono) for audio. The resulting video looked great but the file size came in at about 255 Mb.

Thank you for the replies. Everyone was correct about the jack, interface, and phasing problems. I have been unplugging my motu audio interface and then using headphones at work. I have not changed any detailed audio output settings in logic. When I read that the jack might be a problem I tried switching headphones. This actually helped. I am using dre-beats headphones and they seem to be having issues with the mac/jack-(the phasing/panning problems. I can use these headphones with other devices but not the mac. I have to use ipod ear buds and the phasing seems fixed. Hopefully this information is helpful to someone else.
If anyone knows how to correct this issue please let me know its difficult to know what my final mixes are going to sound like and I have had to keep bouncing everything into i-tunes- sync to ipod and then listen in my car radio.

The first time an iPhone is connected to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device or to set up the iPhone as a new iPhone.
The former does as provided - it transfers the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device to the iPhone replacing all data on the iPhone that is included with the backup being transferred. The latter does nothing allowing you to make your various selections for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
This is designed to be done right away with a new iPhone.
If you don't have a backup for the iPhone with iTunes on your computer and don't have an iCloud backup that hasn't been updated since choosing to transfer the backup for your iPod Touch to the iPhone, the data that was on the iPhone is gone.

PLEASE HELP. How do you access properties files in WEB-INF and classes directory

We have a war file that needs to access properties files that are in the WEB-INF directory
of the war file. We also need to load one of the properties files from the classpath.
However, when we deploy the application ( an ear which inlcludes an ejbjar and a
war and the libraries both the ejbjar (with a manifest setting the classpath ) and
war need ) the properties don't get extracted.
In some of our servlets we are trying to access those files with the path "WEB-INF/foo.properties"
and we get a FileNotFoundException. Then we check and see that NO properties files
have been extracted into their appropriate places ( not even those we throw into
the WEB-INF/classes directory ).

The file doesn't have to be extracted from the war. For example, you can place
test.properties into your app WEB-INF and write a simple JSP to see how it
works:

It will return you a zip inputstream if you deployed your application as a .war.

IPhoto and compression of uploads to iWeb albums and Web Galleries?

It appears it's been established that iPhoto automatically sizes uploads to Web Galleries and iWeb albums to 800x600 no matter the resolution of the original picture.

What I'm wondering is whether there's a way to do something similar in an iWeb album? My experience is that even if I do specify the option in the photo inspector to allow Original (Full Quality) downloads from the album, the files are still heavily compressed somewhere along the line, with 2.2MB originals coming back at 650KB or so.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

I don't have iPhoto 08 yet, but had a similar concern in iPhoto 6. I let iWweb do it's thing and then overwrote the images that it produced.
How? I edited the photos to the way I wanted them in Photoshop or Aperture(!) and saved it out to the largest size (800x600, I believe). Then I set up an Automator action to dupe and resize the pictures to the thumbnail size. When done, I moved the files to my iDisk and put em wher they belong.
It's a bit of a hassle, but I got the quality that I wanted...also, not sure if that'll work in 08...

I am trying to make some sense of this and can't. Some threads that have a Green Star adjacent to them also indicate which post is either "Helpful" (yellow star) and which is the one that "Solved" (green star) the problem. But then there are other threads that indicate the Green star and when you take a look at the individual posts, there are no stars anywhere. Is there logic to this or is this a bug? Is there a way for us to find out which post is the one deserving of a green star?

You may even find also a thread with the "Solved" star awarded to somebody, but with no "Answered" adjacent green star...
So no, there is no certain way to find which post, especially considering sometimes stars can be awarded too soon, before a better answer comes "too late", or even sometimes stars can be mistakenly awarded to wrong answers.
Of course the system generally works, but for a given question that you are not sure of, the best way is to read the whole thread.

Help to improve expdp performance and compression

Hi,
We have a oracle standard Edition which do not support parallel , compression features of expdp.
The expdp dmp file is around 90GB and it takes 45 minutes to create in production server . Then the scripts compresses the file with gzip utility and compression takes 80 minutes.
To copy the compressed file from prod to staging server it takes another 47 minutes .
We have automated the process but it takes long time for expdp + compression + copy ( Around 3 hrs ) . On staging server it does take more than 4 hours to create the staging db.
Is there anyway I can improve the performance of these 3 operations .
Can I do compression while file is exporting ? I tried using pipes in unix and it doesn't work for expdp.
We don't want to use network link .
Will expdp commands writes the file sequentially ? If so , can I start gzipping parallely when files are exported .
Also tried compressing with gzip -1 option , but it has increased the file size by 30% , and eventually increased the copy time to staging server .

I understand you don't want to use database link, i had this problem here [i used expdp].
This is what i've done:
A script that do:
A full logic backup using expdp,
a bzip2 to compact,
and a transfer to the machine of destiny.
It would be far more easily if i could use the database link, but i couldn't.
however i used the parallel in expdp command.
Hope you find a good solution.

I connected my IPHONE 4 via USB and went into ITUNES through my IMAC and some how it fixed the problem. I'm now able to get to the ITUNES Store. I hope you find a fix your problem. Miss Kayo

Web services and crossdomain.xml HELP
