Web Press Profiles

I have been charged with taking over a newsletter for our other shop. They print this on a web press. The lady there has told me that the pictures need to compensate for a 30% dot gain. Can I just apply the Dot Gain 30% profile in Photoshop and that takes care of it? When I do this it darkens the picture on my screen considerably, is that just showing you what it will look like when printed?
They also want the pics @ 85lpi and 300dpi, does this sound correct?
This is my first foray into the web design world and the newsletter has looked pretty bad in the past and I think this may have something to do with it. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Yes, web offset printing often uses the most awful paper one can imagine, so ink bleed is considerable, even more so without a heatsetter. All of what you see is pretty much how it will turn out, so you really must crank up curves to reduce contrast and in turn denisty and size of the offset points to get proper color...

  • Sending a photo heavy PDF for book printing on a web press.  Convert photo in photoshop first or Acrobat 11?

    Hi,
The printing company for our photo book on Loons, uses roll fed web presses.  They have asked for a pdf set to X-1a.
First soft proof was light and washed out.  Printer had us increase saturation and contrast.  Second proof
all our blue water photos come out more purple then blue.
We currently  used srgb jpeg photos embedded in a ms word document.  We used acrobat 11 to create the pdf using the request X-1a
    setting.
Should we have converted the photos in photoshop to the requested setting first and then embedded them in word?
    Thanks for any help.

Can you show us screen shots of your X-1 PDF Settings ( i.e., Color )?  The reason why I ask is my default Distiller PDF-X1a:2001 Settings use a working space of RGB = sRGB IEC61966-2.1; and CMYK = US Web Coated (SWOP) v2 with the "Color Management Policies: "Convert All Colors to CMYK" ( default ); Rendering Intent ( default is "Preserve" ).  Have you discussed these settings with the print service provider?  These settings, if they are identical in Acrobat 11, would appear to have the same RGB work space as your original sRGB based pics. I sense that Word, although not a color managed application, would work as an image carrier into Acrobat 11 where the image files may retain their profiles going into Acrobat 11 and remain intact going out of Acrobat 11 via a PDF-X1a.  In which case, the print service provider then RIP and Prints the file for a hardcopy proof. In your case, the previous digital printer did a good job reproducing the photos as you supplied them, Word or no Word.  The question now becomes what changed with this new service provider?  Their prepress people must of accepted your documents and pushed them through their workflow.  So, what changed? I know of no way to "swap" images using Acrobat.  In your case, it may be a matter of saving a second set of files or the entire book document as a copy and replacing the pics in that file, then create a second PDF-X1a file.  And, as a third option, use InDesign ( however, no point in using it until you've determined where the problem with quality lies ).  If I assume the printer told you that the sRGB files were sufficient and, if you used the X-1 PDF Settings when Saving As > PDF, that would be their preferred workflow and the image files rendered dull and unsaturated ( as they did in your case ), and the printer recommended you increase the saturation and HUE of the images ( which he did ) and the entire workflow worked for a digital printer in the past ( which it did ), then something changed with this new print service provider.  You have to find out from them what it could be.  It could be something with their direct-to-plate equipment.  I believe it merits further research and development with the new service provider.  There is a solution.  You just have to find it.
"Once the pdf is created could I swap out the photos
for ones that had been converted from RGB to CMYK in photoshop with  Rendering Intent and Black Point Compensation etc. filled. "...
Wait a minute.  You did a RGB-to-CMYK conversion in Photoshop?  Why?  I thought you embedded the RGB files in Word?  Then, Acrobat did the conversion using the X-1 settings mentioned above.
"How hard would it be to dump my word document into InDesign with  the newly created RGB or CMYK photos would it work better?  Is the learning curve too much of a hassle for one off?"...
Yes it would.  But, your procedures worked for the digital printer.  Why not now with the new printer?  That's my question.  Since Acrobat's X-1 settings have a work space of sRGB ( assumed ), then your sRGB files should render appropriately and they do not.  You have to find out what works for this new print service provider and, whatever Photoshop Color Setting RGB workspace you use, use it in Acrobat 11.  Discuss the entire document and Photoshop setups with the new print service provider.

    hi Selva,
Once you have creted the ICWC profile you will need to assign this profile to either a BP/User or Position or Org unit.
for this go to the trasaction ppoma_crm where you can see you orgnisation setup along with the positions and BP assignements.
Now select position and go on the top to the go to field and then detailed object  --.enhanced object descriton and then follow the steps as given above.

  • Authorization for IC Web Client Profile

    Dear Guru,
This is the first time I involve in IC Web Client
    Project.
I would like to limit IC Web Client Profile. What is authorization object which I have to limit ?
Beside that, if users miss authorization in the web screen, what is  user have to do ( in R3 we can order user to run /nsu53 or I run ST01 to trace ) ?
    Pls advice.
    Thanks,
    SUGANDI

You can use SAP delivered roles
    SAP_PCC_IC_AGENT
    SAP_PCC_IC_MANAGER
    SAP_PCC_CAMPAIGN_MANAGER.
Each of these roles have access to Interaction Center BSP application 'CRM_IC' as well as other PCUI applications used in IC Web Client.
Authorization object for BSP applications is 'BSP_APPL'.
Talk to your security person and ask him to assign these roles to the user who are going to use the application.
You can even customize these roles.
    Thanks,
    Thirumala.

  • Campaigns in Web IC Profile

    Hi Experts,
As per our requirement, I want to display the Campaigns based on the Web IC profile.
It means depending on the Web IC profile that I have chose the system should display only relevant Campaigns for that Web IC profiles.
So, Can I restrict the displaying of Campaigns based on the Web IC profile?
Any helpful answer will be rewarded with the points.
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    -Rahul.

    Hi Rahul
I've had a little exposure to this.
If you want to use a Campaign you need to define it and assign to the relevant WebClient Profile.
If you do not want a Profile to have a Campaing linked to it then the best step is to remove the Campaign Function profile ID from the Profile.

  • WebAS Instance Profile file

    Hi,
I am using CE 7.1.Where i can find the WebAS instance profile files?
    Thanks& Regards,
    Sudhir

When ever you change the parameters (at SAP level), there is version management. Before creating a new version of the parameter file,
the older version of the file is saved in the profile directory with an extension of .BAK
incase, you need to revert back to the old values, then:
    1. Save the latest version of the parameter file with a different name
    2. Rename the .BAK file to parameter file name
    3. Start the SAP system.

    1. Run time profile
    2. Assign Run Time profile to my own profile
    3. Create Org'n --> Position --> User and assign my profile to organization.
Now when i m checking profile assign to my user(By CRM_IC exicution) it is showing profile that is not exist and giving error <b>Activity clipboard profile could not be loaded</b>
<b>Other problem</b>  when i m searching Business partner I m geting only two tab that r<b> Account <b>and</b> Address</b> .I am not geting third tab that is<b> Contact Persion</b>. How i will find that in search page.
Please tell me what is the problem and what i need to check
    Thanks
    Gaurav

    Hi Gaurav,
I gor confused with CRM 5.1/5.2 and CRM 2007 profile. You are on CRM 5.0 then you do following things
    1) goto tx ppoma_crm
    2) on top left under search screen, search for Positions  " Sales" and Marketing and Service one by one.
Now assign yourself to each of these positions. ( You might find  more than one psoition when you search by above criteria. Ideally you should be able to see position names soemthing like Sales Representative, Marketing Represetative etc . I am not sure what exactly would be the name at your system because ppl might chnage the description of positions.
Now launch UI again and you must be able to see all modules.
Let me know if u still have any issues

  • Web account profile completion

How do I bypass the set up, I don't have a cell phone and if I did I certainly would not want people calling me on it?  I also cannot finish the set up and its stuck at 80% because I cannot find the option to connect with other on hotmail, facebook or whatever, my options are.
I truly wished you would just keep it simple and computer friendly, I shouldn't have to be forced to fill in my sex, as this is discrimination of gender.  I shouldn't have to put any information that I do not wish to put in and without doing so, the set up is incomplete.
So smarten up, because I just want to the use of skype and my personal information should be that personal.

    Hi,
You don't need to complete your Skype profile on the web account page. Completing your profile helps you friends and family to find and connect with you while also allowing you to recover your account more easily should you lose access.
But if you decide against filling out all profile fields there's nothing preventing you from using Skype that way.

Now I cant get profile manager, wiki, web to show in Safari anymore.
Can someone please help me with a step by step walkthrough?

I have had the same thing and a hostname change is killing for your configuration.
What I suggest is that you backup your stuff and reinstall your server with the correct hostname if possible.

  • Custom profiles in IC Web client terminate in XSLT error 'unexpected EOF'

    Hello,
    we've upgraded from CRM 4.0 SP7 to CRM2005 (i.e. CRM 5.0) SP7.
The IC web client is not able to start our custom web client profiles. However, SAP's default profile is OK.
When launching via transaction CRM_IC or SE80 and default.htm, the window opens up, but if we use one of the custom IC Web client profiles, the application won't load correctly. It only displays the logos and the clipboard, then gives the error message:
The runtime repository could not be interpreted. An XSLT transformation error occurred.
    Reason: Unexpected end-of-file.
    Transformation: BSP_WD_RT_REP_RUNTIME
I've checked the customization, and I find no errors. All function profiles (XML files) from 4.0 have been migrated correctly into 5.0 customization tables.
The custom profile launches our BSP application Z_CRM_IC, which is a copy of the standard BSP with a few controller replacements. The corresponding runtime framework profile calls the repository Z_CRM_IC_RT_REP, which is also a copy of the original.
When I check the repository Z_CRM_IC_RT_REP in SE80, the system displays the error
    BSP Application Z_CRM_IC_RT_REP,BSP Page CRM_IC.XM
The included page "CRM_IC_All_Viewsets_wo_BUPA_and_Main.xml" is created in language "ABAP".
However, I don't think that's really an error, because the include merely points to the standard xml file
    ../CRM_IC_DT_REP/CRM_IC_All_Viewsets_wo_BUPA_and_Main.xml
and when I run a check on that, the workbench finds no errors.
Any idea on how to get the IC Web client up and running again?
    Regards,
    Arto

    Note 880180 seems to help.
After making the suggested changes, I ran into another translation error, but that's a different story...

  • More IC Web Profile?

    Dear all,
How can i assigned more then one web client profile to the one  Organization unit/position?
and after assigning it how can i select in the Web client window?
    pls reply
    jayesh

    Hi Jayesh,
You can assign IC webclient profile at multiple hierarchical levels, so for example one at organisation root level and a different one for and underlying user (according to the org structure defined in PPOMA_CRM). When you log on to IC webclient with this user, a pop-up will be displayed asking you to select the appropiate display.
I don't think it's possible to assign multiple profiles for the same organizational entity, but I can't verify this right now.
    Hope this helps, kind regards,
    KZ

  • Do I need to set AI colour profiles for use in ID?

    My previous set up:
    Mac
    CS2 (Illustrator, Photoshop, Bridge)
    Quark XPress 7
    My new set up:
    PC (Win 7)
    CS5 (Illustrator, Photoshop, Bridge, InDesign)
    My problem:
I work for a company that prints newspapers, but my dept also does work for glossy sheetfed printers (magazines leaflets etc)
All my work is exclusively CMYK.
With my previous set up - I didn’t want to have to switch my colour profiles via Bridge as I was constantly juggling two types of jobs:
Our tabloid press - Profile - ISOnewspaper26v4 (CMYK)
Sheetfed Printers - Profile - ISO Coated V2 (Fogra 39) (CMYK)
So I set my CS2 Suite colour settings to  ISO Coated V2 (Fogra 39) and set an action in Photoshop to convert jpegs / eps photos to ISOnewspaper26v4.
So my CS2 working space was set for Sheetfed glossy publications and if I wanted to set a picture to the correct profile for newsprint I just had to open the picture and hit the action that applied the ISOnewspaper26v4 profile.
Regarding Quark – I set up separate templates for each type of job:
One for Profile - ISO Coated V2 (Fogra 39) and one for - Profile - ISOnewspaper26v4.
Regarding Illustrator - I found that Quark 7 didn’t differentiate between Illustrator colour profiles, or if it did, it didn’t show up in ‘Usage’.
If I went to Quark Usage and went to ‘Profiles’ it only listed the Quark profile and any Photoshop profiles, not any Illustrator profiles.
So in Illustrator I just set colour profiles to ‘do not colour manage this document’. So that I only had to worry about changing profiles for Photoshop jpegs / eps’s.
So I had a good little system going that served me well and now my company decided to move us to PC’s and CS5; and I still have the same problem – juggling newsprint jobs and glossy magazine jobs and not wanting to have to synchronise my CS suite colour settings every time I switch between jobs...
So I was hoping to stick with my little system on PC / CS5.
So basically my question is, do I need to worry about Illustrator colour profiles if I am bringing Illustrator files into InDesign? (To clarify, my Illustrator files are always pure vector, so there is no chance of some rogue RGB jpeg sneaking through on a Illustrator file)
Im open to suggestions regarding my set up, but really would prefer not to have to keep switching my colour profiles.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First, I wasn't suggesting that your PDFs be exported to RGB, but it is a common workflow these days to keep photos in RGB until you convert them to the correct profile during the export process. This maximizes the potential for re-purposing your documents and allows you to use the same RGB photos for different output purposes without having to do separate CMYK conversions for each destination, so long as you don't need to do any tweaking after the conversion.
And to answer your question, if the .ai files have no embedded color profile they will ALWAYS be considered to use whatever the CMYK working space is in your ID file, so the numbers will be preserved. This means that there will be slight differences in color on output on different devices (the whole point of color management, after all, is to preserve the appearance of colors by altering the numbers for the output device).
Does the vector work you get from Thinstock come with an embedded profile? Is there any color that is critical for matching, such as a corporate color (which should be spot, but that's a different discussion), or do you use the same art in both the newspaper and magazine, and does the client expect a match (which we know isn't going to happen anyway)?
If there's no embedded profile when you start, there's no way to know what the color was supposed to look like, so color management is not possible, really. You can assign a profile, but you'd be guessing. Since the correct appearance at that point is unknown continuing with out color management shouldn't present a problem. The only case where you would need to manage the vector art would be if the color APPEARANCE is critical or you need it to match across different outputs, and in that case you would need to assign a profile and allow ID to preserve the profile on import and remap the numbers, which means you would likely get rich blacks someplace. Since it's unlikely that you can get a good match going from glossy to newsprint, I probably wouldn't even try -- you wouldn't want, for example, to tag the art as newsprint, and have it print subdued on the gloss if it would look better or more correct with the other profile. Color management would be much more useful if you were going from sheetfed to web on the same stock.

  • CMYK Profile for Printing

    Hi
I have just migrated from CS3 to CS4 Extended. And now when I convert my image from RGB to CYMK, I am asked to set up a profile. I use photoshop for press printing. Which default CYMK profile I should go for?
    Thanx
    Max

OK. First, Rick McCleary's advice was good, best case scenario is to have a custom ICC profile describing your precise print conditions (your in-house press, the print standard, the inks, stock).
If you don't have such a profile you can use others. The three Rick mentioned describe various print conditions on coated paper. Each has a specified total ink limit which is an important consideration. To check this, make a blank CMYK document. Assign the profile. Hit "D". Click on the foreground black color and add the CMYK numbers
Japan newspaper has a TIL of 240. The profile describes an average newspaper print condition in Japan.
US Web Coated SWOP has TIL of 300, with black ink limit of 90. It describes US Web Press printing to SWOP standard on a coated sheet. The two Web profiles Rick McCleary specified have TIL of 307 and 300, with black ink limits of 97 and 98.
TIL needs to be less for uncoated stock. It can't accept as much ink. As the paper stacks up at the delivery end, if there is too much ink it can offset on the back side of the sheet. This is especially likely to happen with a large image with lots of shadow area.
Since you mentioned US Web Coated SWOP and Japan Newspaper, perhaps you've been using them in CS3. If so, and your press runs have been consistent and reliable, you could also use the same profiles in CS4.
