Web searches are being redirected to other sites

Web searches are being redirected to alternative websites. Deleted MacKeeper but the redirects are still occuring

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem. You may have installed a variant of the "VSearch" ad-injection malware.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of today, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for a more recent discussion, or start a new one.
The VSearch malware tries to hide itself by varying the names of the files it installs. To remove it, you must first identify the naming pattern.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
/Library/LaunchDaemons
In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "LaunchDaemons" may open. Look inside it for two files with names of the form
          com.something.daemon.plist
and
           com.something.helper.plist
Here something is a variable word, which can be different in each case. So far it has always been a string of letters without punctuation, such as "cloud," "dot," "highway," "submarine," or "trusteddownloads." Sometimes the word is "apple," and then you must be especially careful not to delete the wrong files, because many built-in OS X files have similar names.
If you find these files, leave the LaunchDaemons folder open, and open the following folder in the same way:
/Library/LaunchAgents
In this folder, there may be a file named
          com.something.agent.plist
where the word something is the same as before.
If you feel confident that you've identified the above files, back up all data, then drag just those three files—nothing else—to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Close the Finder windows and restart the computer.
Don't delete the "LaunchAgents" or "LaunchDaemons" folder or anything else inside either one.
The malware is now permanently inactivated, as long as you never reinstall it. You can stop here if you like, or you can remove two remaining components for the sake of completeness.
Open this folder:
/Library/Application Support
If it has a subfolder named just
           something
where something is the same word you saw before, drag that subfolder to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Application Support" folder or anything else inside it.
Finally, in this folder:
/System/Library/Frameworks
there may an item named exactly
            v.framework
It's actually a folder, though it has a different icon than usual. This item always has the above name. Drag it to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Frameworks" folder or anything else inside it.
If you didn't find the files or you're not sure about the identification, post what you found.
If in doubt, or if you have no backups, change nothing at all.
The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
if it's not already checked.

    Thanks Nubz
I will review further an correct myself.
The last reads the way I meant as in physically getting to see it.
I am not sure you are reading it the same way.
As a consequence your suggestion seems a bit ambiguous to my mind.
Thanks for the input. I will read a digest context a bit more and see if I can rephrase.

  • My searches are being redirected to Google.

On the about config page It was set to a google search. I followed the notes I right clicked and picked reset. I do not know what I do to default my search back to Yahoo.com

Were you resetting the address bar search (keyword.URL)? Since the default is Google, you would need to paste in the URL for Yahoo. It's listed in this help article:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/search-web-address-bar#w_changing-the-internet-keyword-service
Or if you have a Yahoo add-on, such as the Yahoo toolbar, it might be one of the add-on's options to take care of that for you.
Does that resolve it, or is the problem elsewhere?

  • I keep getting this pop up. This web page is being redirected to a new location. Would you like to resend the form data you have typed to the new location? Can you please help me figure out how to get this to stop!

This pop up has been occurring about once a minute when I am on certain sites.
This web page is being redirected to a new location. Would you like to resend the form data you have typed to the new location?
How do I get it to stop?

-> Tap ALT key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
-> go to Help Menu -> select "Restart with Add-ons Disabled"
Firefox will close then it will open up with just basic Firefox. Now do this:
    -> Update ALL your Firefox Plug-ins https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
-> go to View Menu -> Toolbars -> unselect All Unwanted toolbars
-> go Tools Menu -> Clear Recent History ->'' Time range to clear: '''select EVERYTHING''''' -> click Details (small arrow) button -> place Checkmarks on '''Cookies & Cache''' -> click "Clear Now"
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Content -> place Checkmarks on:
    1) Block Pop-up windows 2) Load images automatically 3) Enable JavaScript
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Privacy -> History section -> Firefox will: select "Use custom settings for history" -> REMOVE Checkmark from "Permanent Private Browsing mode" -> place CHECKMARKS on:
    1) Remember my Browsing History 2) Remember Download History 3) Remember Search History 4) Accept Cookies from sites -> select "Exceptions..." button -> Click "Remove All Sites" at the bottom of "Exception - Cookies" window
4a) Accept Third-party Cookies -> under "Keep Until" select "They Expire"
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Security -> place Checkmarks on:
    1) Warn me when sites try to install add-ons 2) Block reported attack sites 3) Block reported web forgeries 4) Remember Passwords for sites
-> Click OK on Options window
-> click the Favicon (small drop down menu icon) on Firefox SearchBar (its position is on the Right side of the Address Bar) -> click "Manage Search Engines" -> select all Unwanted Search Engines and click Remove -> click OK
    -> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Extensions section -> REMOVE All Unwanted/Suspicious Extensions (Add-ons) -> Restart Firefox
You can enable your Known & Trustworthy Add-ons later. Check and tell if its working.

  • I keep getting this error message on my Mac after my Mavrick upgrade: This web page is being redirected to a new location. Would you like to resend the form dat

how do I turn off this notification. I build web stores and this pops up when I access my store now. The stores have a redirect with masking through godaddy.com to hide the source of the store. I have reset fire fox, turned off most of the settings and still having issues. most of the forms on line are outdated.
    Thanks

There is a way to turn off the warning for a 307 "temporary" redirect. However, bear in mind that customers will still see it, so you may want to reconsider the design for business reasons.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box that appears above the list, type or paste '''redi''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click '''network.http.prompt-temp-redirect''' to switch its value from true (the default) to false.

  • How do i get rid of the confirmation popup that says This web page is being redirected to a new location. Would you like to resend the form data you have typed

when navigating on certain sites (fiverr.com is one), i get the popup confirmation "This web page is being redirected to a new location. Would you like to resend the form data you have typed to the new location?"
this is highly annoying and i can't find a way to turn this annoyance off. help!

because of its impact on security this error message cannot be suppressed. you might want to contact the admins of the website where this is occuring and ask them to implement a handling of user input without sending it to a different server...

  • Random redirection to other sites

i've been an internet user for nearly 10 years, but i think alas i've downloaded some sort of virus.
when i google search for anything, even sites i have before, sometimes when i click the links i'm redirected to other sites trying to sell me cheap tat, and even sites for new mums... i'm 18... and a guy.
anyone know what i have to do to get rid of this major annoyance?
P.S. when i click the links i can clearly see in the address bar, that i'm being redirected to 'bots.com' and the like.

Try downloading and running AVG free and ad-aware. Spybot may also help (but use with caution as it doesn't like playing with ad aware).
If you can't access the AVG site, use another computer or ask a friend so you can install it.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

comes up. I end up playing with it going back to where I was or trying to reload it and after a few tries it will let me go to the page i want and then it will do it again even if I'm not touching anything. What's going on? This has been happening a lot. I came to this page and it doesn't seem to be doing it with this but I can't say why. I've tried to search through the Q&A but haven't found anything so far.

  • How do I stop the box "This web page is being redirected to a new location. Would you like to resend the form data you have typed to the new location?

I have cleared my cookies and cache and disabled some add ons, but when in Facebook and specifically for Farmville, I keep getting the pop up box, "This web page is being redirected to a new location. Would you like to resend the form data you have typed to the new location?" I have closed and opened the browser, too and it still keeps coming up.... Please help!!! Thanks.

You can't avoid that if the website is coded that way and data needs to be send from one server to another server.

  • Why are webpages are being redirected?

I'm being redirected to other websites while searching. I've run Norton and Avg but it didn't solve the problem. What do I do?

Seems like Malware give this a read.

  • This web page is being redirected to a new location. Would you like to resend the form data you have typed to the new location?

This alert pops regularly every 10-15 minutes:
This web page is being redirected to a new location. Would you like to resend the form data you have typed to the new location?
I did some serious research / checked for viruses / removed and reinstalled Thunderbird and Firefox. Please read this carefully.
    1. With Firefox closed (default browser), I can open T-bird without any issues and use it just fine.
    but,
    2. the minute that I open Firefox, T-bird give me a popup message of: This web page is being redirected to a new location. Would you like to resend the form data you have typed to the new location? This is not under the Firefox Browser. It is under the T-bird Tab of my computer.
It does not matter what kind of email you have open, whether it be text or HTML. It pops up.
If I have T-bird open (default email client) and use Chrome or IE with Firefox closed it doesn't happen.
Computer is Windows 7 Pro x64-Bit.

This started after the latest Thunderbird update was applied. Like you I have done the same check outs. I found that Thunderbird starts then, without any direct request, FireFox starts as well. Then the messages start popping up. Have already checked and confirmed that the old FireFox posting fixes did not impact the behavior. Looking for an answer.
Same configuration Windows 7 ThinkPad T430.

    Hi SuperRup91:
    As the fantastic jscher2000 wrote:
"you may have OpenDNS set as your DNS service in your router, or your ISP may be using it."
And you may not have been aware that OpenDNS was set in your WiFi router.
Whoever controls the network that your WiFi hooks into can change google searches or anything you browse or in this case change "404 page not found errors" to go to OpenDNS. And there are two place where your network is controlled: i) your wifi router and ii) your ISP.
    Two examples:
    1. Here in Vancouver, Canada where I live, if you connect to a Shaw WiFi hotspot, then Shaw changes your searches by adding Shaw specific stuff. Not a great situation :-) but Shaw does that. (one could argue that this means Shaw is "breaking the internet")
    2. By default Verizon configures the WiFi routers they supply with something called "DNS assistance" which changes DNS and again one could argue that this too "breaks the internet"

Therefore, I recommend you check your WiFi router and see if it has OpenDNS configured. You may have to consult your ISP's technical support to remove OpenDNS; this is most certainly not a Firefox problem; we can't help with WiFi router configuration unfortunately.
    Hope that helps!
    Happy Holidays!

  • When using the google search button my queries are always redirected to another site, and not google as indicated as my preferred search engine.

I have to open up an Internet Explorer browser when I try to to a search for anything. Even though I've selected google as my default search engine, I still get redirected to some random site. It's useless. I would like to use Firefox all the time, but I cannot do so.

Do a malware check with some malware scan programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.

You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.
