Web Server 6.0sp9 - Reliable shutdown and restart

We have set the internal cron to rotate the logs nightly at 11:30pm. When tries to restart, there is a stray process left behind and we get this in the errors log. This happens 85% of the time:
[11/Oct/2005:23:30:21] info ( 7689): successful server startup
[11/Oct/2005:23:30:21] info ( 7689): iPlanet-WebServer-Enterprise/6.0SP9 B11/04/2004 05:57
[11/Oct/2005:23:30:21] info ( 7691): Installing a new configuration
[11/Oct/2005:23:30:21] failure ( 7691): [LS ls1] [0.0.0.0:80] Error receiving FD from watchdog (Address already in use)
[11/Oct/2005:23:30:21] failure ( 7691): 1 listen sockets could not be created
[11/Oct/2005:23:30:21] failure ( 7691): The new configuration was rejected, rolling back
[11/Oct/2005:23:30:21] info ( 7691): Rolled back to the previous configuration
[11/Oct/2005:23:30:21] failure ( 7691): Failed to set configuration
We can manually kill -9 the stray process and then start the web server.
The OS is HP-UX 11i. The only thing running on the server are a few web pages and a Servlet that queries a database. We didn't have this problem with the 4.1 web server that was used before.
I've tried replacing the existing restart script with one that simply calls the stop script and then the start, but we're still seeing the issue.
Thanks
Bill

Can you provide more details? What section of script are you suspecting? What OS? As Chris indicated earlier, 'kill -9' should always work unless there's an underlying OS problem.
Thanks
Manish

Want to stream Netflix to blueray player via my existing Airport Express wifi. The player finds my wifi but the wireless connection fails - says, " Ensure DHCP server is enabled on router and restart router." I don't think I have a DHCP server. Suggestions anyone?

I can't speak specifically regarding LG, but the Whole Home feature on Direct TV (record a movie on one DVR and watch it on another TV in another location) just won't work with wireless, and I have a strong fast connection at 300 Mbps. Ethernet works perfectly.
Few audio/video products will accept "n" wireless at 5 GHz. I suspect that your LG accepts a 2.4 GHz signal, which would top out at 130 Mpbs.
If you are trying to stream High Definition video, especially at 1080P, my opinion would be that it is unlikely that you will be able to do so reliably using wireless.
Perhaps another user who has figured out how to do this will post with some input.

  • Why do I get a popup message in multiple languages requiring a shutdown and restart

Why do I keep getting a popup message in multiple languages requiring a shutdown and restart?  Has been going on for a few months.  Because of the shutdown reports have been sent to Apple upon restart.

After it restarted, did you see a dialog box resembling this one:
If so, next time it occurs click Report...
Before you send it to Apple, copy the text of the report. Paste it in a reply. Remove or obscure any personal information, should it appear.
If problems continues to occur please determine if they also occur in "Safe Mode":
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.

    Help???

If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select the most recent panic log under the heading System Diagnostic Reports on the left. If you don't see that heading, select
View ▹ Show Log List   from the menu bar. Post the entire contents of the panic report — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports.

A Safe Mode boot might help ..
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.

Shutdown the machine until you can take it to a Apple repair/store and get a new adapter or contact the person you might have switched it with.

  • Elgato video to USB has become unreliable after shutdowns and restarts

I have Yosemite 10.10 on an early 2009 iMac, and an Elgato Video capture device with latest software (1.1.5)
The messages "Device could not be initialized" and also "Please connect your Elgato Video capture hardware to any USB 2.0 port" come up after I have had a shutdown and restart.
For 2 or 3 years i have operated this system with no trouble, but as the iMac software became upgraded, and also the Elgato S/W upgraded, the problem has come up, so now I am reluctant to shut down.  However, there are times it must be, such as when the power company shuts service down for maintenance - happens a lot lately.  I have tried different ports, and done the unplug and replug routine, but it takes dozens or even hundreds of attempts until one time it works.  then i have to be sure not to "quit" after a recording session, or the problem comes up all over again. Also I tried using a USB hub, with no success.  Also, I have tried to reset of the USB bus routine (Command-Option-P and R keys during startup) with no success.

Get rid of CleanMyMac and DivX. Add much more RAM. You don't have nearly enough for all that you are trying to load.

  • Random shutdowns and restarts...where to begin?

    This is a client's machine.
It is a second generation G5, 17". It passes all TechTool tests. We have the back cover removed to check for overheating. Thus far, we have not been able to duplicate the problem of the shutdowns and restarts...but the machine is essentially idle all day. The processor is not really being used, so it is not an accurate test.
    1. Is there are software utility that will put a load on the processor so that we can recreate the issue?
    2. Does this have any known heating issues, like the 20" of this series that were recalled?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

One not uncommon cause of this problem can actually be the very simple matter of a misaligned power cord collar, Bailey's Dad - see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86817
This might also help to explain why the behviour hasn't been easy to replicate after the move and with the back taken off. Maybe it is now properly seated!
Putting it under load would be a good idea , though. A power supply issue is not out of the question. The SETI "BOINC" software - http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ - can be used to create an ongoing artificial load. Playing or rendering videos works pretty well (as Miriam has already suggested) too though. So does running "Classic" applications, using the Classic OS9 emulation.
Printing will provide a short term load on the processor and power supply, too.
THe "Rev B" extended repair program that Miriam has linked to only applies to the 20" model , I'm afraid, not the 17".
    Cheers

  • MacBook Pro shutdowns and restarts unexpectedly

    Hello,
I have a problem with my MacBook Pro because it shutdowns and restarts unexpectedly?. Also, suddenly it goes frozen and a beep starts, Do you know what mught be occurring?.  Thanks.
    Eduardo

    Hello Eduardo
It sounds like an issue with the RAM on your MacBook Pro. The idea is to see if you can reseat the RAM and if you cannot, then you would need to talk to an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for additional support.

  • Facetime auto shutdown and restart

After using FaceTime on my ipad mini and iphone 5 for 3 - 5 mins, the device will shutdown and restart back or turn to blue screen then restart back. I try to reboot using the home plus sleep button and reset network setting, but the result still the same

    Try this:
    1. Close all inactive apps. Double-click the Home button and hold apps in the Task Bar down until they all wiggle then tap the minus sign to close apps. Tap the home button to return to Home screen.
    2. Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo.

  • How can I make the web server work on port 80 and not 443. I can only access my website using https.

On a Mac Mini server with OS X Lion 10.7.2, I am unalbe to get the web server working on port 80. It switches automatically to port 443 (https).
This situation complicates the access to FileMaker Web publishing, as I don't want my clients having to use https.
How can I change that? Does anyone know?
    Thanks for any reply

in the server: I checked the SSL certificate. Tried several configuration.
    Well, that's a problem for a start.
Your port 80 connection should NOT use SSL. Port 80 is the standard HTTP port, not HTTPS and most applications that connect to port 80 will not expect to use SSL
If you want to run a site under both HTTP and HTTPS then you create two sites, one on port 80 without SSL and one on port 443 with SSL

  • SUN One web server 6.1,strong authentication and smart card

    Hi guys,
I am experiencing a weired issue with smart cards.
    scenario:
SOWS 6.1 SP6, smart card Gem Plus and Internet explorer 6 and 7 as client and strong authentication.
Once I put my smart card and insert the PIN code to get into the html page, when I tried to just move the mouse in a frame, I got lots of PIN request. I have notest the there are lots of SSLv3 sessions opened. When I put the PIN code after a while and again when I move the mouse quickly I got the same request
I tried with Firefox and the it works fine.
Anyone experienced a sort of same issue? any clue? Could it be that Firefox store the PIN code somewhere and IE doesn't?
    Cheers

    Hi,
Yes, Firefox and other mozilla products by default only require the pin for tokens the first time they are needed. In Seamonkey, the preference is in edit/preference/privacy & security/master passwords/master password timeout/web browser will ask for your master password . There is an equivalent in Firefox, but since i don't use it, I don't know the exact location of that pref.
The fact that you are being prompted multiple times in IE means that there are multiple SSL handshakes happening. This may be because the server is forcing a new SSL handshake on each HTTP request. . There may be a way for the web server to be configured not to do that by setting client auth globally on the listen socket instead of setting it on a specific URL space.

  • Non-Web Server Publishing Rule for Internal and External

    Hi there,
I have a problem with my TMG and publishing SSH for Internal and External users to an internal Server.
    Network:
    Internal Network
    SSH Server, 10.10.10.25
Internal DNS record "ssh.domain.com" pointing to 10.10.10.254
    TMG Server, 10.10.10.254/192.168.0.254
    External Network
External DNS record "ssh.domain.com pointing to 192.168.0.254
I want my users (internal AND external) using their SSH client to connect to ssh.domain.com and TMG to forward the request to the SSH server. Note that internal clients and the SSH server are in the same network.
I have created a custom "SSH Server" protocol with inbound TCP for port 22 and created a Non-Web Server publishing rule.
    Traffic Tab: SSH Server Protocol
    From Tab: Internal, External
    To Tab: 10.10.10.25, original client
    Networks Tabs: Internal, External
External users cann connect without a problem, all fine here. Internal users get a timout. The TMG Log says: Denied Connection (Default Rule,
The policy rules do not allow the user request) and doesn´t recognize this is an inbound request. The log gives me dest IP 10.10.10.254 and protocol SSH and not 10.10.10.25 and SSH Server.
I read a lot of networking rules and NAT/Routing, tried a bit but never got a success.
Can you help me fix or working around this and tell me whats going on there and if there a limitations in TMG I don´t know yet?
    Regards,
    Sascha

    Hi,
According to your description, it seems that request was denied by the TMG rules so the request from the internal users
could not be forwarded to the SSH server. I would appreciate it if you can post the logs to us and the results of running ipconfig/all on the TMG server.
In addition, maybe you can change the firewall policy only from
External and add another firewall policy for the internal user to see if the issue persists.
