I wrote an EJB calling an RFC.
The RFC returns a table.
I've created a web service from this EJB and need to return the above table as an output parameter.
What is the best way of passing the JCO.Table as an output parameter?
Should I pass it as an Object (and the client will take care of the casting)
or - is there a simple type I should convert the table to before passing it?

Hi Adi,
The way I always return a JCO table in my Webservice Interface is returning an Interface.
Say you JCO table is a Person with different attributes in it.
Then I create an Interface IPerson with methods like
public abstract String getName(); etc.
I also create an object Person with methods:
public String getName() {
return name;
In my bean the I have a method:
public IPerson getJCOPerson() {
//retrieve the JCO table person
IPerson pers = new Person();
pers.setName(//name from JCO table);
etc.
return pers;

Invoking a web service that returns binary

No "advantage" as there are two very different tools.
UTL_HTTP is basically an Oracle PL/SQL web browser. It uses the HTTP application protocol. It is just like your ordinary browser (IE, Firefox, Opera), but as it is server-side and display-less, it comes without a rendering engine.
UTL_DBWS is to interact with web services using the SOAP application protocol.

BPEL build error when invoke an extrenal Web Service that returns an Array

I built with JDeveloper a web service that returns an Array of Java Bean classes and I try to invoke this web service from a BPEL process. The wsdl file is automatically generated by the JDev. When I built the BPEl project I obtained the following error:

If this is the incorrect namespace, perhaps the prefix of 'SOAP-ENC:Array' needs to be changed. If this is the correct namespace, then an appropriate 'import' tag should be added to 'http://malangiu-ro:8988/cde-Project-context-root/CdeFactoryWS?WSDL'.

Hi,
BPEL and BPEL PM do not have a good support for SOAPENC-Array: it would be very difficult to create such an array in BPEL or to receive it and manipulate it.
The (unfortunately very intrusive) work around is to change the WSDL of the service to use a XML type defined using XML schema. This is all the more painful that JDev 9.0.4 does not have strong support for complex types.
In general though, I would highly recommend this best practice:
1) Start by define the WSDL contract first
2) Then generate the server side skeleton to implement it
3) Use BPEL as the client to this contract.
By starting with the contract first, you make sure that 1) your interfaces are clean and coarse grained.
2) things like java objects, sessions, etc to not leak through the interface (which would be the worst thing that could happen because it would closely link the client and the server.
Sorry for not being more helpful. This will get radically cleaner in Oracle AS 10.1.3.

I want to create a web service which gets an xml document as input then returns again an xml document.How can I create this kind of web service?

If you want to deal directly with the Document and not want the SOAP engine to serialize/deserialize the XML into Java objects, then you can easliy implement this using Axis. Look at the Axis documentation (http://ws.apache.org/axis/java/user-guide.html#ServiceStylesRPCDocumentWrappedAndMessage) under the heading "Message Services". One of the provided API methods that Axis provides is in the form you want: public Document method(Document body). Hope that helps. As for how to implement the service using Axis, that is beyond the scope of this forum. Check the Axis docs for more help on that.

I'm looking at building a new browser based Flex application
One of the web services I'll be calling returns a PDF as a octet-stream in the XML
I would like that PDF to open in a new browser window.
Has anyone seen anything like this done with Flex?
If so, could you point be to any examples or reference docs that may help me to figure out how.

SQL Server 2008 Reporting Project - Invoke/Consume Web Service and Return Dataset in C# Code-Behind

Hello,
I have a Visual Studio 2010 C# class with a method that invokes/consumes a web service and returns an XML dataset. I am traversing through the parent/child nodes and parsing out the data then inserting it into a SQL Server 2008 R2 table for a join within
another stored procedure.
Instead of using a 3rd party API to generate the PDF for this data, I am creating an SSRS report. The formatting will be easier and I can do a RenderFormat directly to PDF.
Can I expect to be able to transfer the code-behind method to this report and have it be able to work with the web service the same way? It is a SOAP-based web service returning parent nodes and two levels of nested child nodes.
I have also been researching the approach of calling the web service in the same stored procedure that is currently querying the physical tables (which is used to populate a gridview and PDF) but it looks like it may only be possible with a CLR stored procedure.
Is it possible to implement a CLR stored procedure within an SSRS report?
Hope this makes sense. Any help, suggestion or point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

SSRS supports web service data source, we can call the SOAP-based web service in SSRS report directly. Then, we can use custom code in SSRS to parse the XML data. However, we won’t be able to join another data in SQL Server database.

We cannot implement a CLR stored procedure within an SSRS report directly. In order to execute the CLR store procedure in a SSRS report, we have to execute it as text using the following code:

SOAP Messaging Using Crystal Reports Web Services To Return Report in PDF or Excel Format

All,
I am trying to use SOAP messaging to fetch a Crystal Report through a Managed repository and getting back either a PDF or Excel file. For some reason, any reference to web services on this site I cannot access. Like thread, "Using Web Services on the Crystal Report Server XI to return reports". Can anyone point in a direction to Web Service Calls API documentation or does this not exist ?????? I would hope this product has this capability.

XI Release 2 Service Pack 2 introduced the Business Process BI Web Services, that allow you to retrieve reports using SOAP messaging.

Can Adobe Interactive PDF consume a service that returns JSON? A few web sites seem to suggest it can:

Its probably better to post this in the Form or Designer forum as those ones deal more with the capabilities of XFA based PDFs. The Generator forum deals with the server software that converts documents to PDF.
Having said that.
You should be able to do it, but not directly. I don't believe that there is a way to map the JSON returned values to a field, as XFA pdf's generally support XML. You may be able to put the returned JSON value into a single field and then write some code that would parse that value into the proper fields.

Web service to return all employees

Hi I am new to PeopleSoft but have managed to get the OVM template up and running now in virtual box and have the web services working again CI_CI_PERSONAL_DATA. This returns data for a single employee. How would I go about creating a web service to return all employee data in one response so that we and sync firstname, lastname etc with an external system? How configure a primavera web service to return data from the second database?

We have P6 with first WS deployed on a single server weblogic domain. The first WS return data from the first database instance.
Then deployed advanced second WS on a separate weblogic domain server with a different port. Configured second WS with <WS2_INSTALL_HOME>/bin/dbconfig.sh, creating a new branch of a configuration that specifies a different second instance of the database. However, this configuration is ignored and second web services return data from the first database.
We have one domain, which including next servers:

OK, so I got this to work this morning with Username Token Profile (with little help from Oracle Support).
I followed your steps 1-4 but in step 2 I didn't add the -Ddatabase.instance=2 because I want to check to see if my code could swap between different instances.
It appears for Username Token Profile to use Database Instance, you need to set it in the soap header.
So my soap request looks like this:

Problem running Web Service that uses OracleXMLSave on Oracle AS 10.1.3

I am trying to deploy a Web Service that uses OracleXMLSave. The service was built in Jdeveloper 10.1.3 and is deployed to 10gR3 AS. I have all the utitlites available from the 10g Production XML Developers Kit installed . The code compiles and generates correctly . I then deploy to an EAR file that inlcudes the applicaiton code and also all the XDK libraries . No problems so far. But when I run the app, I get an exception like the one below. It says it can't find XMLType . The funny thing is that this library (xdb.jar) and all other related libraries are there in the EAR file . In fact the class loader seems to see it because the exception says that it is there (see text below).
I have added all the libraries from XML Developer kit like xdb.jar , xsu12.jar , etc. I have also verfieid that the files are selected in the WebServices.deploy file and also present in the EAR file . (See full list below the eror message below. ).
It looks like for some reason the class loader can't load the class even though it seems to know that the class exists in the path.
Been sweating on this for a while (probably staring it at too long :) and would really appreciate some help.

Well I got the EJB lookup working but only when I changed the Provider Url to the pre-10.1.3 format e.g. ormi://someserver:12421/someapp and used jazn.com/oc4jadmin as the username. After reading the online documentation, I didn't think this should work!
Another issue I am having is casting a datasource returned from a JNDI lookup for a datasource. We used to do the lookup in the code and cast to an OracleDataSource. Now it is throwing a class cast exception to ManagedDataSource. Is there a quick and easy solution to this? I really don't want to have to go into the code and change this cast so it'd be great if we can get this working without changing code. This code has been working in a prod environment for two years now on 9.0.3 -> 9.0.4...

Web service that streams a clob to the calling application

I need to produce a web service that streams a clob to a calling application: what I have currently is a web service that contains calls to htp, thinking this would serve as a way for a user to download a clob from the procedure that the web service is based on (see Trouble calling htp in a web service procedure
I can't get that approach to work at all, so rather than repeatedly bang my head against the wall I'll raise the following question: is there a standard approach whereby a clob can be streamed to the application consuming the web service? Note that I have limited myself in that I'm consuming the WS using APEX - APEX would like to store a returned value from a FUNCTION web service in a page item or a collection, but I will need to be returning very large CLOBs at times, so this is not an option.
I'm sure there must be examples of web services being used to return large streams of data returned by stored procedures but I can't seem to find them Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Ok, I've had to change tack. I've now recreated the web service and have handled the large CLOB as a streaming attachment: this performs well when running the test in Enterprise Manager as it returns a big CLOB very quickly. My problem is consuming this big SOAP message. I have tried calling this web service from a PLSQL procedure shown below but I get the following error:
ORA-29541: class XMLDBMASTER.oracle/jpub/runtime/dbws/DbwsProxy could not be resolved
When testing the WS there is obviously a automatically generated stub that will handle the returned SOAP message and it's streaming attachment. How is calling this from a DB procedure different, must I supply a proxy to the procedure manually?
Please, if anyone has any clue could they give me a shout? (Procedure below)

How to call a web service that is managed by web services manager from omni

Ok gurus... here is an interesting one for you.
We have a set of web services that are deployed to our server. We have Oracle Web Services Manager deployed to another server and is acting as a gateway to our web services.
We would like to call our web service and pass it the username and password that were specified in the omniportlet connection information screen. How do we go about doing this?
PS. We are using the latest version of portal (10.1.4).

Just a follow up. What I would like to do is to have omni portlet add standard header information for security such as the following:
