Web Services and Portal v1

Can 9iAS Portal v1 support Webservices just like Portal v2 can?

Yes ... I doubt the PDK samples built in V1 are backwards compatible because V1 used Apache JServ and V2 uses OC4J. I did build a demo for Oracle OpenWorld 2001 that showed this by building a stub in JDeveloper consuming the Web service and then building a portlet using the JPDK that used that Java stub to call a Web service. I did it on 9iAS Portal 1.0.2.2 and it worked fine. Not sure if that's all you're looking for ... I could send you the basic stuff offline but it is a little old and folks familiar with it are probably not so many now. So bear that in mind - [email protected]

  • Web Services and the Portal

Are there any versions of the portal that have native support for communications to Web Services? Is it going to be eventually possible to dynamically discover channels via a discovery method like UDDI?

Currently no, in the next release we have preliminary support for web services and there might be web services provider but eventually no time frame yet we do plan to support UDDI ..

  • Consuming web service in portal

    Hi all,
I had a web service now i want to use it in my portal.
Can anyone help me in this regard.

    Hi Lokesh,
To consume a Web service, you can create a deployable or a standalone proxy for the Web service in the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio using a WSDL document as a basis. This can be done with just a few mouse clicks.
The difference between a deployable and a standalone proxy is that, for a deployable proxy, the application of the Web service client must be deployed on the J2EE engine. A standalone proxy can be executed without the J2EE engine.
The role of the Web service client developer has been created so that Web services can be consumed.
The Web service client developer has the task of integrating a Web service in an application. He or she knows the specific requirements for the Web service and creates the Web service client proxy definition. Afterwards, the developer programs the client application using the service endpoint interface.
Please read through this Step by Step approach for same:-

  • Load balancing SMA web service and SMA end point URL

    Hi,
We have set up the recommended 3 servers with Azure Pack, SMA Web Service and Runbook Worker.  We are now wanting to configure the Azure pack portal to setup the SMA endpoint url for the web service.  Before we do that, we are assuming we should
load balance the web services to answer on 1 url (ie, smaws.domainname.com).
    1. Is there any guidance or things to consider when load balancing the 3 web services to answer to 1 url.  We will probably use f5 since that is what we use.
    2. The end point url that we configure for Azure Pack automation should be this load balanced URL correct?
    3. Should we have the Azure pack installed on just one of the servers or all 3.  We did all 3 but it seems like server2 and 3 just redirect to 1 anyway so I am assuming the URL for Azure pack is stored in a db somewhere.
    4. Are there any other components of SMA/Azure Pack that should also be load balanced?
    Thanks
    Thanks Lance

So in this case you need to register the SMA Runbook Workers (do this on machine 1):
    $webService
    = "https://localhost"
    $workers
    = (Get-SmaRunbookWorkerDeployment
    -WebServiceEndpoint
    $webService).ComputerName
    if($workers
    -isnot [system.array]) {$workers
    = @($workers)}
    $workers
    += "MachineName2"
    $workers += "MachineName3"
    New-SmaRunbookWorkerDeployment
    -WebServiceEndpoint
    $webService -ComputerName
    $workers

  • Difference between  a WEB service and a Enterprise Service?

Can Anybody explain me the difference between  a WEB service and a Enterprise Service?

    Hi Anilkumar K Naidu ,
    Web service
A Web service is a self-contained, modularized functionality, which can be published, discovered, and accessed across a network using open standards and which is supported by SAP NetWeaver. Web services cover services provision for integration within an enterprise as well as cross enterprises on top of any communication technology stack, whether asynchronous or synchronous, in any format.
Web Services in the NetWeaver framework play an important role in facilitating the integration of disparate applications from various departments or trading partners and thus increasing business productivity. This benefit allows small and medium businesses also to integrate their business applications with larger trading partners. The benefit derived from this seamless integration introduces security concerns when all the business logic is now being exposed through a standard interface that is a catalyst for security vulnerabilities. SAP Security Managers must use automated diagnostics tools to ensure that the security vulnerabilities are caught in pre-production and in post-production phase.

    Enterprise Service
    Enterprise Service-Oriented Architecture (Enterprise SOA)
Enterprise SOA is a blueprint for an adaptable, flexible, and open IT architecture for developing services-based, enterprise-scale business solutions. With SAP NetWeaver as a technical foundation, enterprise SOA moves IT architectures to higher levels of adaptability – and moves companies closer to the vision of real-time enterprises by elevating Web services to an enterprise level.
An enterprise service is typically a series of Web services combined with business logic that can be accessed and used repeatedly to support a particular business process. Aggregating Web services into business-level enterprise services provides a more meaningful foundation for the task of automating enterprise-scale business scenarios.

  • NLB for Two FIM Service and portal servers in single domain

    Hi,
I am currently working in a FIM Project in which i need to install two FIM service and Portal Servers in single Domain.
Customer wants to open the FIM Portal with common URL of both the Servers.
I have only knowledge that we need to do NLB between IIS of both the servers. anyone can provide help that how can we achieve this.
Any help would be really appriciated.
    Thanks,

Actually - just configure NLB and make sure that your Sharpoint site collection handles access mapping for this common name. Best would be to create it with this name as a site name from the start.
Same for service - configure all nodes to use same service name and configure NLB.
Here is some blog post which should help on details:

  • Diff b/w Web service and window service

What is the difference between web service and window service, whether the both are same or not, Give some explain about that each one and give some examples also.

An XML Web service is a component that implements program
logic and provides functionality for diseparate
applications. These applications use standard protocols,
such as HTTP, XML, and SOAP, to access the functionality.
XML Web services use XML-based messaging to send and
receive data, which enables heterogeneous applications to
interoperate with each other. You can use XML Web services
to integrate applications that are written in different
programming languages and deployed on different platforms.
In addition, you can deploy XML Web services within an
intranet as well as on the Internet. While the Internet
brings users closer to organizations, XML Web services
allow organizations to integrate their applications.
A Windows service starts much before any user logs in to
the system (if it has been setup to start at boot up
process). A Windows service can also be setup in such a way
that it requires a user to start it manually ? the ultimate
    customization!
Windows services run as background processes. These
applications do not have a user interface, which makes them
ideal for tasks that do not require any user interaction.
You can install a Windows service on any server or computer
that is running Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows NT.
You can also specify a Windows service to run in the
security context of a specific user account that is
different from the logged on user account or the default
computer account. For example, you can create a Windows
service to monitor performance counter data and react to
    threshold values in a database.

  • SSO to a Web Service from Portal

    Hi All,
I have EP deployed on machine A, and my web application deployed on machine B, and I need to get SSO enabled between EP and the web application. Machine B is a Windows 2003 Server, and has the ISAPI filter installed to get at the HTTP_REMOTE_USER from the server variables, when I come from the EP. The web application on machine B is able to get the HTTP_REMOTE_USER server variable. This web application is an ASP.Net application, which calls web services in order to do any processing, including logging in a user. The flow looks like this:
EP -> web app page -> redirect to login page -> check if HTTP_REMOTE_USER is present, if so, call web service to login user.
The problem is this: when in the login page, I get at the HTTP_REMOTE_USER, which only gives me a user name. In order to actually log the user in, I need to call a web method, passing in a user name and a password. However, I don't have a password, and if I put a web method to login the user without the password check, it becomes a security hole. I hence need to check for the HTTP_REMOTE_USER in my web service layer as well, but I don't seem to be able to get at the HTTP_REMOTE_USER in the web service. At present, both web service and web application are on the same machine, but I still don't get the server variable. Isn't the web service (yet another) HTTP-based application, which should be able to get at the server variables? How do I get at the server variables to flow to the web service as well?
In addition, I need to also do the following: I need to create an iView, which will call web methods on the web service. The web service uses WSE 1.0, and validates to check that there is a UsernameToken present. So, I need something similar to the above, wherein the web service can "figure out" that it is being called from the iView, and can skip the validation.

    Vivek

  • Web service and servlets in the same project...web.xml?

I have a server, which displays a web service. I programmed this service with JAXRPC.
I have a client, in another directory. I succeded in compiling, deploying and running the web service.
The problem is that after I tried to integrate this service in an existing project. This project contains servlets. In these servlets, I'm using sessions.
These servlets are on the same side as the server of the web service. Because of the implementation of my code, I'd like to use in the class that represents the server of the service, the same session as the one I'm using in the servlets.
But of course, it's not working by itself. I know there's something to do with the web.xml files.
The thing is that I created a web.xml file for the service, and another for the servlets.
I was thinking of joining both of them in one xml file, but everything crashes then...
Could someone tell me how to create a project with a web service and servlets, and mostly how to configure the xml file??
