Web Sharing, DHCP, Time Capsule

I am trying to startup Web Sharing which I will be able to share with the outside world. I have DSL and am using a Time Capsule as my router. I first setup
Security > Firewall > Set access for specific services and applications
Then I went to Sharing > Web Sharing. This gave me the internal address. The website http://myipaddress.com gave me my external IP address. I don't know how to allow incoming port 80 traffic from an external address. I thought the Firewall preference would do it but it doesn't seem to allow for such fine tuning. The airport utility also doesn't seem to allow it.
Any ideas ?
Thanks

I am using Airport Utility v5.4.2. In the Advanced tab, I see three additional tabs: Statistics, MobileMe, and IPv6. It doesn't contain any port mappings selection.
I'd speculate that that may suggest one of two things:
1) Your AirPort unit doesn't have the latest firmware. The firmware version is noted on the "Summary" screen of the "AirPort" group. Mine shows 7.4.2.
2) Your AirPort unit is old enough that it doesn't support port mapping. The initial AirPort Utility screen that shows the AirPort units on the left will give a description of your model on the right after the text "AirPort Utility found a ..." There will also be a model number of the unit itself, probably on the bottom.
The "Take Control" (http://www.takecontrolbooks.com/) book "Take Control of your 80211n Network (version 1.5)" contains some material that implies that AirPort units prior to the 802.11n models don't support this type of port mapping via AirPort Utility, as it requires something called "DHCP reservation". It refers to "complicated workarounds" needed to do port mapping with older equipment. It also mentions something called "NAT-PMP", which is available under the "NAT" tab of the "Internet" view of AirPort Utility.

  • IChat Screen Sharing causes Time Capsule to have "Double NAT"

I have a weird situation, wondering if all you super-network geniuses could offer an opinion...
    My current setup:
-DSL Modem hooked up to a Time Capsule.
-Time Capsule in Ethernet Mode & "Share Public IP Address: NAT & DHCP Enabled."
-Time Capsule has a wireless 5Gz "N-Only" network.
-MacBook Pro, PC and an Airport Express connected to N Network wirelessly.
-Airport Express "Extends network" via ethernet cable to Slingbox & TiVo (via switch.)
-Airport Extreme hard-wired to Time Capsule.
    -Airport Extreme in Bridge Mode.
-Airport Extreme has a wireless "G" network & USB Printer.
-Airport Extreme network for "iPhones & G computer."
-Only Port Mapping is for slingbox, ports 5001,5001.
O.k. Everything works PERFECTLY! Except when I start a "Screen Sharing" session in iChat AV.
When I click "Ask to share xxx's screen" It says "Waiting on xxx" and then Airport Utility pops up, saying that the Time Capsule has an error - "Double NAT" and I'm off the internet. All I have to do is select "Restart Time Capsule" and after a reboot, I'm back in business, and all is well again. I can screen share, chat, etc. However, if I try and start "Screen Sharing" again, same thing - Double NAT.
Do I need to enable a Port Mapping for iChat?
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. I thought I finally had the network thing down, but this one little thing keeps making me reset my router. (Doesn't seem like the Apple way.)
    Thanks.

I have the Time Capsule set up as the DHCP server, distributing a shared IP address.
The Express is set up to "Join and existing network."
I only have 1 Extreme and it is set to "Bridge Mode."
The Time Capsule is the router hooked directly to the DSL modem. It is in "Ethernet" mode, and I'm not quite sure how to check the little DSL modem's settings.
It's so strange, that only this one little request, "Ask to share xxx's screen" does this error occur.
Looking at more settings on the Time Capsule, under NAT settings, I do NOT have the "Enable default host at:" option checked, and the "Enable NAT Port Mapping Protocol" IS checked. Under Port Mappings, 5001,5001 is the only item for Slingbox.

  • In finder I have shared ETOS-time capsule. ? What is it?

Hi...I have in my finder down the left hand bar showing what's happening...a title saying SHARED and below it is ETOS-time capsule.  What is that?  How can I remove it since I am not on any shared network.  Help please.  If you know what it is, perhaps email me or text me.  ****@***********.com or ***-***-****.  Thanks
    <Personal Information Edited by Host>

Maybe something is named wrongly.. ETOS is simply the name someone has used.. I presume for their time capsule.. how it shows in your shared I don't know.. check its IP address.. open airport utility and see if it is detected.
Your personal info was removed so just use the forum.. that is what forums are for!!

  • Imac internet sharing ethernet - time capsule - wireless client use imac

    hi all,
i have the following setup in mind:
a g5 imac with 3g modem attached and internet sharing (3g/ethernet) switched on. with an ethernet cable it is connected to a time capsule. through the wireless option of the time capsule i want to be able to use the imacs internet sharing with two macbooks - its not working ....
imac: g5, no wireless, os 10.5
    macbook: wireless, os 10.4
    macbook pro: wireless, os 10.6
what went wrong? how to set up the time capsule to allow the internet sharing coming from a wired mac to wireless clients macbooks?
or is this not working at all???

If you configure your Mac to share an ethernet internet connection over AirPort, your G-devices should have no problem connecting. We do it here with iPods and an iPhone, they are G.
    My Mac mini is connected to the internet by Ethernet cable to my ISP's Arris gateway. I am sharing the Ethernet connection to two iPod Touches and an iPhone via AirPort from my Mac mini. This is how I configured the Mac to share the connection;
    1. In Sys Prefs/Sharing I highlighted Internet Sharing (do not check the box)
    2. Share your connection from: Ethernet (from the dropdown menu)
    3. To computers using: AirPort (check the little box)
    4. Press the button AirPort Options...
    5. Name your Network
    6. I use Automatic for the channel
    7. I encrypt my network using a 40-bit WEP key
    8. *For a non-Apple device you must use only a 5 alphanumeric character, 40-bit WEP password or only a 13 alphanumeric character 128-bit WEP password*
    9. Press OK
    10. Check the box for Internet Sharing
    11. Answer any dialog boxes that pop up

  • Time capsule as shared folder, time capsule as shared folder

How to use the recently installed time capsule as a shared folder for my other mac book and PCs at home?
    Thanks in advance

    1. Make sure it is setup with SMB names.. ie TC name.. Hard disk name.. wireless names should all be short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric.
    2. IN the file sharing section make sure the workgroup is set correctly.. generally WORKGROUP.
    3. Turn on the guest account to read and write access. Assuming this is not a security issue for you.
    4. On the PC install bonjour for windows or airport utility for windows. (you said PC but I presume that means windows).
    5. In windows explorer type in the address or name of the TC.. ie
\\TCName or \\TCIPaddress clearly replacing the generic with the actual name or IP.
    6. Create a new folder from windows..
    7. Load your stuff into it from either the Mac or windows..

  • Sharing a Time Capsule between Time Machine and Data Storage

I currently have a MBP with a 120 GB hard drive that is busting at the seams. I have a 500 GB time capsule which I use Time Machine on. I am going to move iphoto and itunes libraries onto an external drive and I was wondering whether I can share the Time Capsule between TM backup and being an external drive. It currently has more than 325 GB available. Appreciate any advice.

Sorry, I'm not that Mac literate. My plan was to connect the WD Book external hard drive by USB to the Time Capsule so that it will wirelessly mount. Will TM back that up automatically?
No TM will not back up network drives. as I said it has to be directly attached. if you attach the drive to the computer instead of the TC, TM will back it up.

  • Can I limit application web access using time capsule firewall?

Wondered if tc firewall can be used like Zonealarms or similar pc apps

I am assuming that u r doing this on a mac., then, your best bet might be to use parental controls option.  so you'd have one admin acct (pw protected, ofc) which would control the other, limited account.   then you have lots of options, including: white & black url lists, app control, timed access control, mail and ichat limits.  ya could go nuts with all of he options

  • Time  Capsule file sharing VS Leopard Server

I just bought a new 1 TB Time Capsule (TC). My goal was to use it as a time machine hard drive for my Leopard Server.
As soon as I start Enable File Sharing on TC, there is a conflict with the AFP Port (548) for my server. I can only do one or the other. I understand that I can change the AFP port but I don't think it is a good solution for me.
Is there others ways to reach that drive ?
    Thank you

Hello, the problem is to activate Disk Sharing. Because I have forwarded the AFP Port 548 to my Leopard OS X server in Time Capsule, as soon as I try to turn on Disk Sharing on Time Capsule I get the following message:
Enabling "Enable file sharing" conflicts with one of your part port mappings. The port mapping has been disabled. Please update its public port to continue using it.
That's the part I wish I could avoid. Changing the public port of AFP wold mean to change all external client (my family
I have tried to turn on Bonjour in the Disk pane and then turn off disk sharing and I did received a message saying to configure Airport-Time Capsule - Edit - Dynamic global Hostname. I will be trying that.
Thank you for the "Bonjour" Hint

  • Sharing iTunes library between two Macs on Time Capsule

    Hi there
I've just about persuaded my fiancee to get a MacBook, which would give us a mac-only household. If I got a Time Capsule, could we share an iTunes library? We each have an iPod and it would seem like a pain to have to recreate two entire libraries on the Time Capsule, much of which would be the same music.
I'm also assuming we could both use the TC as wireless Time Machine backup for our Macs - is this correct?
Finally, does anyone have a view on the likely range of TC relative to a standard Linksys 802.11g wireless router? The Linksys doesn't quite reach to the other end of my apartment and I'm wondering if the TC is likely to be better.
    Very many thanks in advance.

    Hello
You will run into pain. I just tried every found solution on Internet. Whatever you will do, it ends up in a hack. Fact is: iTunes administer your library only local. You CAN share your iTunes library on one Mac by menu settings in a network, BUT the Mac sharing its iTunes library MUST run all the time you want to listen to music from shared iTunes library even if the shared library (music files) is on the Time Capsule. It even wont work turn on "Wake up on LAN activity". The shared library will only be available as long as the Mac sharing its iTunes library is up and iTunes opened. That way it makes no big sense to have the music files in library physically on your Time Capsule. Another problem might come up when you stop listening shared iTunes library: As soon as the sharing Mac goes into StandBy mode (time depending) you can't access its library again. Standby must be stopped.
The other "solution" is also to have the whole library on a shared drive (Time Capsule) and to import it on both Macs. You will run quickly into Sync problems, beside its a pain to administer the song library that way: You have to import further songs twice, on both Macs to hear them on every one.
And of course, there are third pary hacks around nobody really wants to use.
After implementing Time Machine into Lepoard Apple wanted to make money out of it and offered Time Capsule mainly for storing data and backups (what both works great, also WLAN works fine).
I hope Apple will find a way in iTunes not to handle the music libraries so restrictive, so it can be accessed f.e. on Time Capsule while the Mac sharing its library must not run all the time.
    Hope I could help.

  • Accessing Time Capsule disk from Windows 7

I have a Time Capsule 2TB which serves several Macs and a PC running Windows 7. I was able to access the disk from Windows 7 to share files. My PC suddenly stopped seeing the disk - although the Windows 7 machine can still access the web through the Time Capsule.
When I run the AirPort Utility through Windows 7 it is unable to find any Airport wireless devices. I can however see the Time Capsule and the disk when I 'Configure other...' and enter the IP address manually, but still cannot access it.
I am using Airport Utility version 6.2
I thought it might be an issue with the Time Capsule and bought a new one but encountered exactly the same problem.
I read that turning 'Search' off in Windows 7 might solve the problem. I tried doing that but still cannot find any AirPort wireless devices.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You should be using the airport utility from windows .. not 6.2 which is only a Mac version AFAIK.
Did your windows suddenly decide spontaneously that it is now in work or public network.. instead of home.. windows does this at random intervals to make life exciting for all users. Drag it home.. and make it sit there.
No go, then shut down all the firewalls.
If your problem coincided with the recent upgrade to 7.6.3 firmware.. which would not surprise me, downgrade to 7.6.1 or earier.

  • Time Capsule Dual: Working with Excel files in Windows Computer

We just purchased the latest-gen Time Capsule to replace another earlier edition TC and we are having a strange problem. We have three iMacs and one PowerBook G4 connected wirelessly to the TC, along with two Windows XP machines which are wired in to the TC. The issue is that the two WinXP machines cannot view Excel files from the TC. When they try to open and work with an Excel file from the TC, they get a message that there is not enough memory to open, work with, or save any Excel files and it won't let them open the Excel file at all. If they copy the file from the TC to the local WinXP computer, they can open it and work on it just fine. At first I thought the issue would be with the new TC, but I plugged back the old TC and it has the exact same problem. The only commonality between the two is that I foolishly updated the firmware on both to 7.4.1. The old TC was working just fine until I installed 7.4.1, and then it started to have the same problem handling the Excel files.
By the way, none of the Macs have any problems accessing and working on the Excel files off the TC, this only happens to the WinXP machines. Also, it only happens on the Excel files; we have other types of files in the TC and all of them seem to open and work just fine. But Excel is our mainstay so we're looking for a solution, can anyone help?

Same happened to me a while back when i updated the firmware 7.4.1 . the macs were ok but the Windows PC's sharing the Time capsule would not save any excel files as errors like memory too low
etc started to appear. easy way to correct this was to got into airport Utility and downgrade back to 7.3.2 , from the menu , you can select what firmware rev you want to go back to select downgrade to 7.3.2 and everything will work ok after this, remember to deselect auto update and check for firmware in the Airport pref till Apple get this sorted out.
    Cheers ian

  • ITunes library on Time Capsule accessed by multiple accounts - Not working!

I moved my iTunes library from an external hard drive to my new Time Capsule (it is in the Data folder). I can access it fine from my user account, but my husband who has an account on the same MacBook Pro cannot. When he tries to access the Data folder it has a red circle with a white line indicating that he does not have access. I have used Airport Utility to change the file sharing (enable file sharing with time capsule password and airport disk guests access read and write). But still he has no access on his account. Please help! Thanks!

I have my iTunes library on a Time Capsule. I can access it from more than one user account without the problems described here. In fact, I can access it from more than one account simultaneously if more than one machine is on. I have not tried accessing from multiple accounts using Fast User Switching.
The only think of that might be different is the location of the files. The iTunes Music folder is on the Time Capsule but not inside a Data folder. Each user's iTunes Library files are stored in the usual location in their home directory on the machines. iTunes' preferences are set to point to the folder on the Time Capsule.

  • Lion forgets time capsule password

    Hi,
being a user of time capsule i have recently switched from file sharing with time capsule password to file sharing with user accounts  (on the time capsule). Generally speaking it works quite well, however, when connecting to the time capsule, Lion always try use the old credentials, i always have to enter user account and password manually to get it working, even when i choose the option to save this information to the keyring, Lion still tries to connect using the old(wrong) credentials. I have not found a solution yet, any suggestions?
    greetings
    michael

There is no reset.. soft hard or factory that will affect data on the hard disk.

  • Seeing Time Capsule from Apple TV

    Hi all,
I'm trying to get my Apple TV to see the files being shared on Time Capsule.  I have no problem seeing and sharing files between my Macs and can happily play media files using a Western Digital player, but I can't seem to find a way of getting my Apple TV to see the Time Capsule share.  Have I just missed the point and Apple TV can't do that and I can only share via AirPlay or iTunes?  I hope not as that would be a huge failing for the Apple TV as it's internet connection is the Time Capsule.
    All help welcome!
    Cheers.

happily play media files using a Western Digital player,
Tick. It is a media player.
I can't seem to find a way of getting my Apple TV to see the Time Capsule share.  Have I just missed the point and Apple TV can't do that and I can only share via AirPlay or iTunes?  I hope not as that would be a huge failing for the Apple TV as it's internet connection is the Time Capsule.
Tick.. Apple TV is not a media player.. it is a sort of connector box between a media player.. ie itunes and your TV. You can think of it as a wireless or ethernet to hdmi converter. With a slightly complicated interface.
ATV1 and ATV2 were immensely popular because they could be hacked. ie jailbreak into a useful media player.. that is why ATV2 command prices 2x or 3x the new ATV3 which so far has resisted all attempts to make it useful.
BTW Apple see the failure in being able to hack the earlier ones.. when you sign up to Apple you sign up to the whole.. or nothing. So the way to play media is to pay for it via itunes.. thus making apple considerably richer.

  • Time Capsule Disappears from Radius Base Stations List after adding

I'm running a Mac Mini with 10.7, Lion Server, and Server Admin Tools along with a Time Capsule 802.11n (1st Generation).
After I add the base station (you can see my steps below) the base station restarts and then disappears from the list. The base station is then ignored:
Sat Jul 23 11:47:41 2011 : Error: Ignoring request to authentication address * port 1812 from unknown client 10.0.1.1 port 65530
This is because it's not listed as a known base station in the radius config (as far as I can tell). No other errors (than the one above) listed in either radiusconfig Log or radiusd Log. I cannot figure out how to add the base station to the list! Do I need to just manually add it to the clients.conf? If I do that, I feel like I probably won't get any of the special features that come with the Server managing the base station. Has anyone else experience this?
The base station does get the configuration from the server when I set it up, it switches from WPA 2 Personal to WPA 2 Enterprise with a shared secret, the correct IP and port 1812.
The server does not have a firewall configured or enabled (for simplicity while configuring this...)
Here's how I set up Radius:
Selected the Time Capsule from the Hardware list in Server.app
Checked the box for "Allow user name and password login over wi-fi"
Opened up the Server Admin.app and selected my server
    Expanded to choose RADIUS
    Chose Configure RADIUS Service
    Allowed all users
Selected my Base Station and entered the password
    Used my default certificate
    Accepted the default options
    Let the Time Capsule restart
After the Time Capsule was back online, Base Stations lists 0 base stations.
Clicked on the Base Stations Tab and Chose Browse, selected the base station, entered the password, let the Time Capsule Restart, it shows up in the list, but when the list is refreshed, the Time Capsule no longer appears in the list.
Clicked on the add button ("+") and Added the information manually, set a shared secret, and let the Time Capsule restart, it shows up in the list, but when the list is refreshed, the Time Capsule no longer appears in the list.
Using Terminal, manually tried to add the Base Station: radiusconfig --capture-base-station 10.0.1.1 10.0.1.254
    Entered a shared secret
Time Capsule restarted, was never listed in the radius config
