(I did a search on this site but was unable to find anything
that gives me this info)

  • Web gallery file size...do I have this straight?

I've read through the posts so far. I'm new to LR (waiting for my package to arrive, so still using the trial).
I set up a collection of 57 photos.  Most were raw, the largest being 167,866 KB.  (kinda large)  I tried to upload from LR (thinking maybe it doesn't work in the trial version as I kept getting errors of one kind or another?) and found the total of the files was over 176,000,000 KB.  Hmmm.  So, I went back into PhotoShop CS3 (after another program that usually will batch convert files didn't work) and saved each with 800 ppi maximum on a side, and saved them all for the web. (That took a little time, but not too bad.) Then I had to import the new .jpg folder, and re-edit each photo to maximize their exposure and such.
Must I do that every time I want to post a web gallery?  In other words, I'll have to keep the original (larger) files, and make a smaller set for web plublishing, and convert everything to a .jpg file as well?  (I suppose there's no sense in filling my server with photos that are much larger than necessary, but it seems like a lot of extra work.)
Also notice, if I have to start again (it is taking a long time, but then it's my first attempt), the collection I've saved has all the Identity plates and information I've typed in going back to Lightroom defaults, and the order of the photos goes back to random (after I've meticulously tried to put them in order).  Hoping this is just because I'm using the trial again, but no way to know until the box comes in a few days (I hope).
The feature that caused me to make this purchase is the ability to do these galleries.  I've been looking at templates, modifying them, and working on doing this, for quite some time now. When I saw it's just part of LR...WOW!  I did get excited!  What a useful and wanted feature!!!
It's more than one question, I know, but I've so many more!  Will the learning every become adequate to do what I dream?  (This last question is rhetorical, by the way.)
OMGoodness! I thought I saved the gallery in the Collections...clicked on it, and no pics, nothing I did (for the second time) seems to be anywhere.  I have a LONG way to go in learning to use this tool correctly!  Arghhhh!  ... Last revision...went back into the folder, and everything is there.  Wow!  Guess I don't need it in a Collection.  Awesome!

These files were scanned. I'm sorry, I forgot that.  They're old pics.  Some were in .jpg format, but most were in .psd format.  I converted them to smaller files in the Save for Web Device in Photoshop.  My next gallery will be shots from my Nikon D200, and I checked...the files are about the same size as yours.  These scanned files were considerably bigger as the film was pretty old.  Did quite a few of them previously to last night, and used a dpi (or is it ppi) of higher than 300 I did the last ones in. File size varied from 1,201 KB to 16.765 KB. (That bigger one was a 5X8 school shot.)
Will it normally send the files to the web full size and then just use the dimensions specified in the program?  I have to check how much space I have on the server, but I do have another gallery I want to make, and I found a great plugin (here on the forum) to add mp3 music to the gallery. (I know, more space, but love it!)  I figured 800 pixels on the longest side would be plenty adequate for viewing, and the gallery parameters are smaller, so that's fine.
One thing I don't understand, it asked me to place the files in "photos," but I don't think it uploaded a folder of "photos" to the web.  However, it's obvious the files went.  I was afraid if I used the export, I was going to have to upload the folder with my photo files to the server, but I think it handled that.  I hope I get a user manual with my boxed product.  It can't come soon enough!  LOL
By the way, I successfully posted the gallery tonight.  It's really great, and my son loved it.    I am SO thrilled with this program!!!

  • Web Site File Sucking Program

I am looking to develop a class to extract the files from a web site, by giving arguments of the URL and a local directory the class will create copies of the Http files along with any image links found within each page.
Eg if given java fileSuck www.url.com localdirectory
the class would parse through the www.url.com and then create files
    www.url.com/index.htm localdirectory/index.htm
    www.url.com/image.jpg localdirectory/image.jpg
    www.url.com/page1.htm localdirectory/page1.htm
    etc
I am not sure if URLConnector is teh correct class to use as I cannot find a method that will allow me to look at the content of each page search for <a> tags within the html and extract these files for opening and copying.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

You can use either URLConnection.getInputStream() or you can use URL.openStream() to access the contents of the connection.

  • CREATIVE SUITE 5 WEB PREMIUM FILE SIZE SHOWING UP 936 GB

The file size of creative suite 5 web premium showing up 936GB in installed programes(windows 7). The actual size is below 4 GB. The capacity of my computer hard disk is just 250 GB only.  Iam not able to uninstall the software. Nothing happening when I click on "uninstall".  When I keep clicking on uninstall a pop up message says that "please wait while the current program is uninstalled or being changed" but this is just a pop up message. I waited over 3 hours but the unintallation is not processing at all.  Attempted to uninstall several times but same result. Tried to install the creative suite using the CD thinking that i get a notification that the software is already installed. But the installation CD is just initializing and stops after that. .
The Option " Save for Web devices" grayed out after I accidently removed the plug-in from PS CS5. I wanted to re-install the photoshop CS5, but the installation CD  stops working after the initialization.  Could someone guide me how to get rid of this issue?
    Thanks
    Uthan

Thanks for the reply. but how do I manually weed out the install entries in my registry? could you please guide me with the steps? This http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html is not working I am afraid. I understand that I need to uninstall the creative suite before I run CS cleaner. But as I explained in my first question, the uninstallation is not working at all. Even I could uninstall the software, I am afraid that I may get into trouble if installatin is not working. All I want is that my photoshop error " save for web devices " which was grayed out should work as normal. This error happened after I moved the plug-ins.
    Thanks
    Uthan

  • Web site window size

I was on Realtor.com when my cat dashed across the keyboard. Now the window for that site is shrunken to about 2X4 inches. Can someone please tell me how to get it back to normal size? Thanks

Thank you for the suggestions; however I think I am not using correct terminology. The window itself-- what is controlled by the diagonal lines and green button -- is normal sized, but the web site display -- the page that says "Realtor.com" and "Find a Home"and what not, are stuck in teeny tiny size smack in the middle of the window. The display is roughly 2X4, unreadable, and so far immune to my attempts to resize.

  • Lost web site files Desperate for help

I have a site up and running (for 5 years) I didnt back up
the website files duhhhhh Now i have lost them all due to my
computer dying on me. Is there any way i can get the files from my
    site to update it?

    Can
    > the web site still be viewed by viewers while i am
    getting files
    Yes.
By downloading your files from your website to your computer,
    you're simply
copying them from the server's hard drive (where the world
    can see your
website) to your local hard drive.
    and also while
    > i am editing the site until i re-upload the edited one?
You'll be editing the files locally on your own computer.
    That has no effect
on the files on the server.
You could spend 12 months editing the files locally. Anyone
    visiting your
website (i.e. accessing the old files on the server) will
    still see the old
    files on the server.
To reiterate: the remote files on the server will still be
    viewable by
anyone but they'll be the old files.
When you've finished editing locally on your computer at
    home/work/laptop,
you then upload your freshly edited files. That's called
    updating your
    website.
Next time someone views the site, they see the freshly edited
    files because
the freshly edited ones (which you just uploaded from your
    local computer)
overwrote the old ones on the server.

  • Web site files stuck in Outbox

I have an Ipad A1460 using 7.1.1 .  When I attempt to mail items found while surfing the web the items always get stuck in my outbox.  Any suggestions?

    The _www user already exists.
Pretend that every program has to be run by a user.  In fact, don't pretend.  It's true.  It's just that some users are real humans and other users are just computer accounts used by programs the system runs automatically.  When the computer starts running a program it starts a process.  Every process has a user and a program it's running, and the computer sees it as that user running that program.  When the program tries to do something the operating system says to itself "Who is trying to do this and do they have permission to do that ?" and if not, it will produce an error instead of letting the program go ahead.
It would be possible to have the root user (the default basic pseudo-user that runs most operating system things) run your web server.  The root user has privilages to do anything it wants: is has to have them because it needs to be able to do things like change operating system programs and delete files belonging to other users.  So the root user could definitely run your web service for you.
But this would be terrible because the root account has the privilages to do anything it wants.  if someone was to hack into your web server software they would then havea program running as root, in other words a program that can do anything it wants.  So you would have a hacker with complete control over your computer.
So instead of running your web server software as root, a special user: '_www' is invented.  This user has enough privilages to read the files your web server wants to serve, and enough privilages to use some other resources of your computer, but not enough privilages to do nasty things.

  • Incorrect PDF scaling for web site jpeg files

So, I'm not sure if anyone else find this frustrating. When working on a new web design either in Illustrator or Photoshop, etc. and then exporting those to a jpg file, then taking those and combining them into a PDF file using acrobat, I'm seeing the PDF files being about 25% larger than their actual 72dpi web-standard size. So when I pass along the PDF to clients for review, I always have to add a disclaimer that they should set their PDF reader to about 75% to see the actual size of the web site files. 100% is far too big. Any idea why the correctly-sized image files, when imported into Acrobat are increased in size?
I've tried saving them as smaller files... I've tried the cropping feature... none of this seems to solve the problem. It's quite frustrating.
    Best,
    Russel

    Hi,
In Muse, there is no button/widget which allows to upload contents to your site. I would suggest to use third party web form builder, like Jotform, Upload Field Allowed File Types and Embed the form code in Muse and that should work.

  • Save For Web vs. Resizing vs. File Size vs. PNG

In playing around with some settings while saving a .png file, I noticed some weird results. For this example, the original image is 300 x 300, but I want the final size to be 200 x 200. I get different results depending on the order I perform the following operations (I never thought the order mattered until now).
    1. start with 300 x 300 image, choose save for web, select png-24, with transparency, white matte, convert to sRGB, change image size to 200 x 200, then save - the file size is 37kb
    2. start with 300 x 300 image, use Photoshop's "image size" to change to 200 x 200, then save for web, etc - the file size is 111kb
So depending on which step I resize the image, the file size is significantly different - if I resize BEFORE using save for web, the file size is much larger. This is just weird to me, but I always resize AFTER choosing save for web, so that's why I've never caught this until now. In case you ask, while using Photoshop's "image size", all three options are checked at the bottom of that window, so nothing is getting re-sampled or anything like that.
The only thing I can think of is each of those methods treat pixel data differently when reducing the dimensions. When I overlay both exported .png files on top of each other, I see no difference in pixel quality and/or color shift - so why the big difference in file size? Unsurprisingly, if I just save the file straight to .png, the sharpness is much better, and the file size is 46kb. I did notice when saving for web, the colors become a little more saturated.
Are all these results typical? I've never really paid much attention to the results when exporting .png's. I always thought the results were lossless (in general).

    Too many variables
What? There are 2 variables here (variables = scenarios = steps). Only two different operations.
    1. resize the image, THEN use "save for web" = 91kb
2."save for web", THEN change image size = 157kb
    Hopefully my logic translates here:
All other settings are the same. I even made sure the .psd was sRGB this time. The specific question was "why does the different workflow order produce such a big difference in file size"?
In creating a new test file (http://www.shan-dysigns.com/userForums/photoshop/savePNG.zip), I did notice an interesting thing: (I'm including my files in case you want to follow along or test for yourself)
If I merge all layers BEFORE performing the steps above, the file sizes were relatively closer to one another - 168kb and 157kb (respectively from the 1, 2 list above)
One thing to note is all the .psd layers are either shapes or text - this whole scenario may be totally different if each layer had rasterized content (actually, it does, by about -20kb).
The file size in step 1 above didn't jump until it had to consider rastered text/shapes into the calculation. So all this tells me the difference in file size has to do with how each process handles vector data. Maybe when you allow PS to resize the image first, the overall file size is smaller because the vector data gets recalculated???
I don't know how to properly interpret all these differences, but I do know there is something about PS's operation of resizing the canvas with vector data versus resizing the canvas with rasterized data - this has to be where the difference in file size lies.
Maybe I've just wasted a bunch of time on the obvious, but I think I learned something here. Now my head hurts and my eyes have popped out of my head.
So, Chris, I guess there ARE more variables in this situation. My curse is being nosey and wanting to know more technically about PS than most casual designers probably would care about.

  • How can I delete old web site designs from Muse CC 2014.1. (13 Aug. 2014)?

Having recently installed the latest update to Muse and been obliged to re-name my web site file I thought it only appropriate to clean up the desktop.  In DW there is a message window where a site can be deleted but I do not see a similiar method in Muse.

    Hi,
You can look your computer for the .muse file of your site and delete it. Once you have deleted it, try to open it from Muse. You will get a pop up, which says the file/site is missing, would you like to remove it from the list. Click yes and it will be gone.

  • How do I set up a root directory for a web site

So this is probably a naive newbie question.
I have been creating websites driven by php/mysql on my mac for years using the previous the web preference pane to run Apache and since that went away using XAMPP to provide Apache/php/mysql functionality on localhost.
I decided to download OSX server and try to use that.  Figured might as well go native MAC.
    I am baffled.
The manual says to set up a web site in Server by working through the Websites Services interface. I did that and pointed the setup at the directory where I have all of my web site files.  I now have no idea how to access that page from my local machine.
    I have tried:
    http://localhost/myURL
http://localhost/~username/Sites/[root file directory]  -- where the files are stored
I also tried some typical localhost ip address
    None access my site.
How do I access my site over my local netework?
I feel like just dumping server.app and stting things up through the terminal.
    Thanks,
    --Kenoli

How familiar are you with the bash command line and with Apache, and how much do you want to learn about Apache and related topics?  (If you're not already, then I'd encourage learning about this material, as this knowledge is very useful for maintaining and updating sites, and knowledge of correctly securing files and directories is critical to building and maintaining secure web sites — all of managing and running and updating a web server builds on these foundations.  There are various good books and web sites on Apache, and the Apache web site has various materials available, if you don't already have something.)
The localhost host name and the 127.0.0.1 IPv4 address are both synonyms for the "me" host.  It's the name and the address that always gets you to the current host.
With http://localhost/ or http://127.0.0.1 specification, what you enter at the URL address bar is relative to the root directory specified for the default web server, and will default to the index.html or index.php page or whatever the default web site is configured to use.  With OS X Server, this root directory is configured via Server.app.  To use Server.app, launch it, connect to the server, select Websites from the left navigation, and you (by default) will see a default site and a secure site.  Select the default site.  Select the edit button below the site to edit (and to view) the configuration.
With the details of the default site visible, you will see the path to the default web directory.  This path to the default web directory is where the files for the default web sever location reside.
The default path to the default web site is /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/Default
If you place foo.html in that directory (or whatever the defailt web site is using), you can view it via your web browser and the URLs:
    http://127.0.0.1/foo.html
    http://localhost/foo.html
To get to the default web site using the GUI, launch Finder and select Go To Folder, and enter that string into the box.  You will now get a GUI view of that folder.  (I'd strongly recommend using the command line here, and not the GUI.  To get to the directory from the command line and then list the files present, launch Terminal.app from Applications > Utilities folder and issue the following commands:
    cd /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/Default
    ls
If you want to test something in the browser, you can use the file:///path-to-file-to-test mechanism.  Most web browsers will allow you to render local files directly using file and three slashes.
You will need to ensure the executable files (scripts) are marked as executable to OS X, using a Terminal.app command such as the following:
    chmod o+x path-to-file
Enabling ~/user per-user sites involves directly editing the configuration file, as Apple has disabled that by default.
There's an Apache tutorial with an overview of what's involved with enabling per-user directories here, and there's what's been listed in my earlier replies and links.  With OS X Server Mavericks, the default configuration file for Apache is located in the Library folder, and can be viewed with the following Terminal.app command:
    cat /library/server/web/config/apache2/httpd_server_app.conf
This file is the OS X Server equivalent of the oft-cited httpd.conf file you'll see listed in various documentation.
If you want to enable the per-user directories or tweak other Apache settings, then shut down Apache from Server.app or from the command line, and then edit the configuration file with nano or some other command-line editor using a command similar to this:
    sudo nano /library/server/web/config/apache2/httpd_server_app.conf
you'll end up finding and uncommenting (removing the #) from the following two lines:
    #LoadModule apple_userdir_module ${SERVER_INSTALL_PATH_PREFIX}/usr/libexec/apache2/mod_userdir_apple.so
    #Include /private/etc/apache2/extra/httpd-userdir.conf
If you have specific questions about this, then I and others here can answer those.  If you don't understand something, then asking a question about that can help you learn, and can help me understand what it is that I'm posting in my replies here that's confusing you.  There are also various resources available for learning Apache, and I'd encourage spending a little time with those if you've not already done so or feeling at all unsure about how that tool works; I end up re-re-reviewing the Apache docs fairly regularly.

  • Web site access

I need to access a web site to add info. I have received instructions for windows xp to access the web site files in "my network places" and have the user name and password for the website. What is the equivalent instruction for Mac?

If it's a regular smally website then users tend to upload files using FTP (File Transfer Protocol). I have a small website we will call www.website.com which is managed by a company called ISP. I use an FTP client to upload the jpgs, html file etc.In the FTP Client I enter the ftp address which is ftp://ftp.isp.com
I then enter my user details which are [email protected] and mypassword. The FTP client then presents me with a window/dialogue box where I can see all the files currently on that website probably in the form of isp.com/website/public_html/... Then I can upload and download files as required using the client
Hope that makes some sense. There are hundreds of FTP clients... as of today my favoured one is OneButtonFTP here are a wide selection.

  • IWeb not updating web site.

iWeb started out working okay. I kept a blog and updated it. Then I went on a trip. Even though I had wireless internet the whole time, updating kept failing. No error message, but the update clock would stop after being about one-quarter filled. When I came home, there was no difference.
Although this started months ago (before the whole .Mac to MobileMe changeover), I do believe my recent inability to update my web site is related to it. The reason is that although I can access the last updated version of my web site at "web.me.com/myaccountname", when I go to my current iDisk and open the "sites" folder, it's empty!
Is it possible that my account has not yet been changed over to MobileMe yet? I have already installed all OS updates, including the MobileMe update. My account logs in fine.
    Any ideas?????

Hey maybe you need to replace only the page that was updated, do not change all the published site, try I just did it and it work I have change a page and a file to be downloaded from the web site, now I can see the changes live on the web. this is what I wrote to others.
Hey I have found not a solution but a way to publish without iWeb, Just did it and I have seen the changes on the web site. If you guys want to try:
I have published my updated web site to a folder on my desktop. then open iDisk from the web (where my web sites files are stored for everyone else to see) then open both windows side by side and only replace the files of the updated pages from the desktop folder to the iDisk folder, there is always a file and a folder with the same name. I just replace them, I then checked on the web and Woalah! changes were made. Well... it did work for now without iWeb, not sure if is the right thing to do but if you are brave enough to follow this go ahead and go to bed as I will until the bug is fixed (hopefully tomorrow) then we can go back to normal. Hope is clear and it help! Rog
