Web site not visible in iweb, where did it go?

I created 2 web sites in iWeb.
Posted 1 to mobilme.
Now when i open iweb nothing appears and everything is greyed out in the top menu bar.
Any idea where it has disappeared to and why i can't see it?
Please help.

Try the following;
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
3 - reboot.
4 - launch iWeb and see if the domain file will open.
If that didn't help continue;
4 - move the domain file from your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
5 - launch iWeb, create a new test site and save.
5 - go to the your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
6 - move your domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
7 - launch iWeb and try again.

I was going to use a free online web based one, but thought I have iMac and iLife 08, so why not try iWeb
I know its tied into MobileMe, but is there a way to post the site after designing in iWeb to a different site?
If so how, and where are free sites that you can publish to please.

Uploading web site not made by iweb

My son created a web site in school using HTML code. It has about 6 pages of text and music, plus 2 Quicktime movies. I uploaded it to my iDisc, but I don't know how to publish it to my dotmac account for others to view. Is there a way of doing this? Would I use iWeb somehow? Thanks in advance!

Hmmm, I did exactly as you said, varkgirl and jabberwock. The Portfolio folder has 45 items in it-HTML pages, .mov files, .gif files, etc. I uploaded the entire folder to the SITES folder on my iDisk. I can see all the files when I check the iDisk on dotmac. Then I clicked on HOMEPAGE,scrolled down the left side to ADVANCED. The theme is External HTML. But only the HTML files show up and they don't link to the original files, so I get an error code. I also get a 404 error code when I try homepage.mac.com/username/foldername/pagename.html, substituting my info, of course. Does it sound like I'm doing everything correctly? Gallery web site not found

I published a 35 photo web gallery I thought successfully, but when I go to the url listed at the top of the photo event folder, I get a web site not found error. The photos did upload to the iDisk in the "sites" folder, but it would apppear no web page was created.. there is a web gallery icon to the right of the photo album name that was uploaded.. I have upgraded my iPhoto with the latest ver via software update.. any thoughts??

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try making some minor change to the gallery and republish. See if that will jump start the online gallery. If that doesn't work, mount the iDisk, go to the Web/Sites folder and delete the contents of the _gallery folder (assuming you only have one gallery). Then republish again.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Let me start with the general advise...
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
* right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
* Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Some web sites not working in FF but they are OK in Safari.

A couple of times lately I have had web sites not work correctly with Firefox. I need to switch to Safari to complete the tasks I needed to do. My FF is running on Mountain Lion and is up to date.

Hello michaeljt, the sites you have problem, is it with a lot of flash content ?
Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.
Further information can be found in the [[Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox]] article.
Please reload the webpage while bypassing the cache using '''one''' of the following steps:
*Hold down the ''Shift'' key and click the ''Reload'' button with the left mouse key.
OR
*Press ''Ctrl'' + ''F5'' or ''Ctrl'' + ''Shift'' + ''R'' (Windows and Linux)
*Press ''Command'' + ''Shift'' + ''R'' (Mac)

You need a Wb Hosting service & an ftp client, if you need more info reply with that & what kind of files/folders it made.

Flash player download web site not working

After uninstalling flash player, I can't get the web site to reinstall it. I go to the web site click the agree and install now and gos to the next page but nothing pops up like it said it should.

My OS is windows 7 Ultimate. There no Service packs listed Microsoft don't have one for it yet. My brower is Internet explorer 8 version: 8.0.7600.16385. My firewall is not causeing problems and the popup blocker didn't even activate.

i can see firefox adding https to every single URL i try to go to, if it fails over it goes to none HTTPS. i do "not" have https every where installed, i do however have avast installed, if its a feature of avast i cant find it.

Top Sites Not Visible When Safari is Opened by a Link

When Safari is opened via a link, such as a link within an email, clicking on the Top Site button in the menu bar does not show my Top Sites (the starting web page remains visible). The Top Sites are there because you can click in the location where you know a Top Site should be and you will go to that linked page. In order to get this working properly again, you have to close Safari and reopen. I have tried resetting Safari/Top Sites but no success. I hope this is clear; it's easier to demonstrate than to describe.

Since the problem started ocurring after installing another application, I would suspect something with that last installation. Without knowing more about the installations, I would not be able to help much. Did the other installation perhaps install another DLL of the same name? Try uninstalling the last app to see if the problem goes away.

IDisk has information not visible in iWeb

When I go to my Web Gallery to view, download, or upload, there is no problem. When I browse my site, or friends to, there is also no problem(by site I mean http://web.mac.com/[AppleID]). Normally, all information, if hosted with .Mac, made with iWeb, is all in my iDisk, or in my iWeb application. The problem I am having is, nothing is in my iWeb application, by that I mean, it opens and asks me to pick a template, not showing me my website so I can alter or add to it. Is there a way to force reset the information in iWeb to read my iDisk, because my iDisk appears to have all the information that iWeb is looking for, but it just can't see it.
Any help would be much appreciated. If any more information is need from me or something more descriptive, please dont hesitate to ask.

iWeb doesn't read iDisk.
What it does is it reads the Domain file which is where iWeb stores its data.
The default location of that file is:
User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2
To get the site showing up in iWeb just open the Domain.sites file by double clicking on it.

I already have a 10-year-old web site. Instructions for iWeb update?

My web site has been up for ten years. I created it with PageMill 2.0, and now I can't even communicate with it on my new iMac because it's an OS 9 application.
That means I'm going back and forth between my old eMac and this one to try and upgrade. I've created a beautiful new art site in iWeb, and it was 100 x as easy as the first one, but I'm having problems getting it online. After ten years in the search engines, I have people enter at many of my old HTML pages and I need to use all my old web pages to forward to my new site. I don't know how to arrange the different files in the site folder to work together, or what to name them. I have tried adding a piece of code recommended for redirecting a page (meta refresh), but that hasn't worked, even when I have the iWeb files in the same folder. My Mac assumes I'll publish on .mac and that isn't the case. I have published to a folder so far. Anybody have instructions?

Ok, I'm talking to myself here! hahaha! What I was told was this from Mac Fit-it:
“You don't need to point anything at anything. Simply don't change the names of the HTML files as they are right now; that's all.HTML is HTML is HTML. You do not need PageMill to edit pages created in PageMill. HTML is HTML; any HTML editor can edit pages made in any other HTML editor.“
Now, this is terrific news, but I still couldn't figure out how to open the old pages with iWeb. So, I simply made new ones with the old names. I don't have to work with PageMill at all, and I have crisp new easily designed pages to point the way to my new site.
Now if I can just figure out the right meta refresh code (I've come across several) to do the job without giving the search engines a heart attack, and how to arrange them so they work together, I'll be in good shape. Meta refresh has problems, and Java script doesn't pause to see the refresh page. Any ideas?

Gasbuddy web site not working properly with firefox, but working fine with explorer

I've noticed when I load the web site gasbuddy.com, it is not working properly. It does load, just not performing like it should. When I try using gasbuddy.com on explorer 9, it works fine. I've already tried working in safe mode and that didn't solve the problem with gasbudy.com. Any suggestions as to how to fix the problem? I did do some prior investigating, and I'm very cautious about removing my cookies. It seems when I do that procedure, I lose too much info on certain web sites----weather.com, weatherunderground, etc. Just not sure how to remove cookies to solve a problem with out causing other problems? Thank you.

I'm glad we were able to figure it out. Many sites are designed with stretchy columns that work with either full zoom or text-only zoom, but definitely not all of them.

How to view HR photo from a web-site NOT using ArchiveLink NOR ContentRep.

We have a web site where ALL our employees' photos are maintained.
It is accessible via HTTP with one of the parameters is the ID number of the employee.
Is it possible to customize the PA in such a way that it will display the photo in the SAPgui by accessing the photo using a URL ?
For example the following URL:
http://<server_name>:<server_port>/hr_photo/EMPLOYEE_ID.jpg

I know what you are asking for but sadly, it is NOT possible without customization. I have had 2 past clients with this issue....typically they had the employee photos on some common intranet server in some folder and simply referenced them by "(username).jpg" through some kind of custom employee directory app/web page. Since ESS services, many MSS services, HRAS services, etc. via the portal and then also SAPGui transactions rely on the ArchiveLink config for photos as standard, we had to load all the photos into ArchiveLink and do it the "right" way. It actually is VERY easy to do. The added benefit that the clients like too is that you can have SEVERAL photos (such as photos over time) for a single employee (since there is no longer the dependence on the naming of the image file such as (employee#).gif or (userid).jpg. Sooooo....sorry I don't have the answer you wanted, but hopefully my answer helped.
