Web Site Portal Feasibilty - Using Flex

I have been tasked with redesigning my work intranet portal.
In your opinion, is it feasible to do the whole website in
“Flex”? Is Flex more for just small applications? I was
looking at the 2Advanced Link:
http://www.2advanced.com/
website, and would like to design something similar using Flex
instead of Flash.
The website will have the usual calendar, wiki, blog, phone
book, news, etc...
Any input or opinions would greatly be appreciated.

You could use iWeb for this but you would have to get into building your own navigation and creating the site in manageable sections on separate domain files.
Do you mean that you would be running E commerce from the site?
If so, have a look here...

What trusted web sites do you use that have free or purchase photoshop brushes?

The size and resolution depends on the intended output.
In my opinion relevant zooming shortcuts would be cmd-0 (View > Fit on Screen), cmd-1 (View > 100%) and cmd-spacebar/cmd-alt-spacebar to temporarily switch the current Tool to the Zoom Tool.

  • What photo web site do you use?

Since Lightroom has the function to create a web page with images, I think it is an appropriate question for this forum.
Which web site do you use and how easy is it to load your images from Lightroom?
    Thanks,

SmugMug, there is an export plug-in available for it free. Works ok, but
have my own issues with SmugMug, mostly the buggy and poorly done

them down) but still haven't fixed them.

  • Tomcat web.xml "display-name" using flex.messaging.MessageBrokerServlet

           Hello,
When my web application starts with the BlazeDS servlet flex.messaging.MessageBrokerServlet defined in the web.xml we have an error because in the display-name defined at top level in web.xml we have some text containing character ':'. The error is traced to inside the function
             flex.management.BaseControl.getObjectName()
Which gets the object name, and this function calls
       BaseControl.getApplicationId()
    which finally calls
    ServletConfig.getServletContext().getServletContextName()
This will return or display-name from the web.xml with all  it's text. This text contains among other characters the character ':'.  We use this tag for the display in the Tomcat Manager to see version  number and other of deployed project.
After retrieving this name it is appended in the getObjectName() function to a buffer, this StringBuffer that already contains flex.runtime. and  now this name is appended (still with all that we are using for Tomcat  Manager with ':' character and other). After the name, other things are  appended. Our problem is that, after constructing this StringBuffer an instance of javax.management.ObjectName is created. In it's constructor it takes a String name  as input. This String is parsed in base of characters ':', '*', '?',  '\n' and so on, and since we have some of these characters in our  display-name it all goes wrong.
My question is, if this is a bug, a limitation or if it is documented that using flex.messaging.MessageBrokerServlet we can not use certain characters in the display-name of the web.xml?

I have found that this is a bug and there is an issue open at the "Adobe Bug and Issue Management System", BLZ-617. I don't know if work is in progress, but when that issue is closed the problem will be solved.

  • Can i-cal on a web site be edited using a PC

I would like to use i-cal on the church web site. The church office uses PCs. Can they update and edit the calendar using their PCs?
    G5 Dual 1.8   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   i-life 05
    G5 Dual 1.8   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   i-life 05

Unfortunately not. Sharing calendars with iCal only allows one user to be able to make changes to a calendar. Other users are only able to read these calendars.

  • A web site that I use daily has disappeard from my "Most Visited" list. In spite of my continued use of the site plus deletion of other sites that I seldom use, thus making room on the list for the site I want to be listed there, it doesn't.

A bookmarked web site for weather that I use daily - often more than once a day - has disappeared from my Most Visited list. In spite of my continued use of the site for a week now, plus deleting other sites that I seldom use that have started showing up on the Most Visited list, thus making room on the list for the weather site, it still doesn't reappear there. I have to open Bookmarks to access the weather site. So the site is still there, but not on the Most Visited list. I tried removing and re-entering the site in Bookmarks, but that didn't solve the Most Visited list problem. Thanks for your help.

Your browser has been hijacked. You can test it by going to any search site besides scroogle and looking up antivirus, malware removal, or any other term like that. It will show you the results but you wont be able to go to any of those pages. In my opinion this is the worst kind of virus because it is so hard to get rid of. You'll remove it and it will self replicate and you'll have it again. Scroogle works because it acts as a proxy between you and the search site google. Follow that guys directions who replied before me. When that doesn't work try to get a copy of Stopzilla antivirus. I had my browser hijacked once and that got rid of it. If that doesnt work, download the Comodo web browser. They give away a month of free Geekbuddy assistance with their browser. Use it. Chances are you will have to contact an IT proffesional of some sort anyway. But you'll never feel really clean again and you'll become paranoid about using the web and you'll get every popup blocker and java script stopper there is. But that still won't be enough and you'll dump windows altogether becuase there just are'nt that many viruses that work on Linux.... oh wait.. that was me...

  • Firefox is taking a very long time to load any web site. It used to be extremely fasta and stable. Is there a current problem? I have the most recent updates installed.

As of the last week, I have not experienced the usual rapid download to signing in to Yahoo, and once there, other sites are experiencing the same lag time. I have to wait till Firefox catches up with the download speed on the web. I am NOT experiencing this with Internet Explorer. I much prefer to use Mozilla, but don't understand why this is happening. Are there any issues that are being worked on from your end? There are NO changes to my computer (Windows 7), except recent updates from Mozilla.

    Hello Billyeee,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Wi-Fi on your MacBook Pro.  I would be concerned about this too.
I recommend following the steps in the section titled "Symptom: The Wi-Fi network seems slow" in the following article to resolve an issue like the one you described:

  • Building Web Based VoIP Phone using Flex

    Hi, all.
I want to build a sip client web based using Adobe Flex. Anyone can tell me how I start?
By the way, I use Asterisk as communication server.
In other discussion, I find the google alchemy, but I still don't know what it is.
Please your answer, all flex master.
    Thanks.

I'll move this to off-topic since you've been correctly pointed to forums.asp.net.  I just want to mention that whatever that article was demonstrating is probably irrelevant in today's web development ecosystem.  For example, an event calendar
is likely to be its own web control that you can just drop onto a web form (or otherwise instantiate in a web page).  I know of a couple retail components that can do it and there are probably free ones available too.  Even if you build your own
it will likely be little more than an existing calendar control with perhaps some custom rendering code.

  • A favorite web-site that I used extensively with a previous Firefox version will no longer connect using Firefox 4.0.1 which I upgraded to this morning. The message says "Connection Not Encrypted". How can I access this important site?

The first message after Firefox fails to connect says "This website does not supply ownership information." Then is says "Connection Not Encrypted."
Yet my previous Firefox version connected readily to this same site.

I appreciate this option, to go back to an earlier version, but I really want to use the latest FF, so the counsel from cor-rel, about dealing with cache and cookies, is the solution I pursued. And it worked!
But thanks for responding to me. It's great to know that such support is out there.

  • Firefox continues to warn me that the web site I am using does not have a valid certificate, even after I have repeatedly created an exception for this website

The site is an https secure site that I normally visit with IE, however parts have become inaccessible to me on one particular computer that I use for an unknown reason...( Vista sp2)
I decided to try Firefox and it works well, except for the annoying reminder every time I try and log in to the website that its security certificate is invalid...

I would suggest running the network via a pc for the day.. pick either your Mac or win7 pc.. you will need to do a bit of fiddling.. even better would be to just borrow a router. Or buy one on a 7day return .. !! Beg borrow.. don't steal. Just get a router other than TC. it won't take long to determine if the TC is the issue.
IMO at 18months you are suffering failure of the TC power supply. early days but it is showing signs of delinquency. And will get worse. But another router will show it up.. if the PC has dual ethernet cards you can run ICS.. or same sort of thing on the imac to the wireless .. ie the PC or Mac becomes the router with direct connection to the cable modem. Then share internet from there.
Once you do that for a day or two, you will quickly be able to track down if the issue is cable service/modem or the TC as router.

  • Safari doesnt work at most web sites, need to use firefox

more and more, firefox doesn't load web pages correctly, like yahoo videos, the blue qt circle spins snd spins, and the beachball locks everything up.  Why put an x in the url to interrupt, but it never works? using osx 10.5.8 and safari 5.06. very frustrating.  thinking of making firefox default browser as it seems to work more universally

    Hello, might try this...
Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Then Apply. For 10.5/10.6 Network, highlight Interface>Advanced button>DNS tab>little + icon.
DNS Servers are a bit like Phone books where you look up a name and it gives you the phone number, in our case, you put in apple.com and it comes back with 17.149.160.49 behind the scenes.
These Servers have been patched to guard against DNS poisoning, and are faster/more reliable than most ISP's DNS Servers.

  • How can I refresh a web site that I use often but it also changes its content frequently. Where is the refresh icon?

I use to refresh my browser & web pages by clicking on the "refresh" button. This button is no longer on my browser. how can I refresh a web page or keep it up to date if there is no refresh icon to use.?

Firefox 4 and later use a combined Stop/Reload/Go button that is positioned at the right end of the location bar.<br />
During the page load process it shows as a Stop button and after the loading has finished the button is changed to a Reload button.<br />
If you type in the location bar then that button becomes a Go button.<br />
Middle-click the Reload button to duplicate the current tab to a new tab.<br />

  • Firefox will not let me use any version over 3.5.14 it does not access any other web sites if I use any other version of firefox?

If I update firefox to the new version 18 and then try to use any websites that don't have anything to do with firefox it says "Problem loading screen" and it does the same with any version past 3.5.14 exept if I update to version 3.6.24 then all the screens are just white and at the bottom it says "Updating Add: Codec-V".
So basically I'm stuck in a old version of firefox and I can't get out/
