Web sites are reporting incorrect location

I use two computers, a Windows 8 32 bit laptop, and a Windows 64 bit desktop. Both are running Windows 8.
When I go to some retail web sites (Wal-Mart, Staples, for example) and try to set a store as my local store, they report my location as Newark, New Jersey, some 50 miles north of my actual location (just north of Asbury Park, NJ). Consequently, all of the stores that they report are outside of my local geographical area). I queried one of the retailer's tech support contacts, and they suggested that it might be related to my router's IP address location. I did check my DCM address location, which I manually set (74.105.92.5) by typing it into Google, and it returned an address of Asbury Park, NJ.
I assume that my router's IP address is different. Is there anywhere that I can see what my router's  (not my computer's) IP address is? Once I know that, I can try and see where it is located, and possibly talk to Verizon about changing it to a local location.

Not going to help.
Verizon uses a large pool of IP addresses for each of its areas.  At pretty much anytime your IP could change to another in the pool.  And most of these websites only know approximately where these sites are.  Here in FL they normally think I'm in Tampa.  In NY they normally think I am somewhere in Queens (NYC).

    Hi,
Dumb question : is one of your server listening on port 7001 ? If not, should it ?
What is the expected behavior ? A managed trying to connect to the admin server ?
Check the value for ADMIN_URL value, set in the startManagedServer.sh or cmd.
Another dumb question : do you have a firewall ?

Approx 4 minutes 25 seconds into this YouTube Adobe ELearning video for Common JavaScript Interface in Adobe Captivate 8, the topic of extracting data from a live web site http://api.openweathermap.org
Is there anywhere we can download this Adobe Captivate weather ticker project? or get some more complete tutorial on setting it up?  I tried to copy some of the code shown in the video, but can't get it to work, so I suspect I'm missing something somewhere.
I would like to try it out.

Could windows Firewall be stopping this geo-location weather ticker app from working? When I start Captivate 8, I get the message indicating the the firewall is blocking some features of the program. When I check the geo var it seems empty.

  • Web sites are not in color, what to do?

The only information I have is that when I downloaded Mozilla Firefox a year and a half ago, no web sites are in color, including mine. I've searched and asked and dug and given up. Now, I need Firefox to be functional.

    Hi judithleedew,
First question I have to ask is are your other applications in color? Have you tried Safari? Is that in color? If none of your programs are in color, it's a system issue and you have better luck at the Apple forums.
If you are sure it is only Firefox, I'd try starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If you don't have the issue while all of your add-ons, extensions, and themes are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit. You should look at the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting-extensions-themes Extensions and Themes troubleshooting guide ] and the [[Troubleshooting plugins]] article as well.
You could also try [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles?s=create+a+new+profile&r=2&e=es&as=s#w_creating-a-profile Creating a new profile].
You might find some good stuff in the [[Websites look wrong]] article as well.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • I downloaded FF update twice but the web sites are not displayed despite my being on the page. Also rebooted.

The web pages (tried different web sites) are not being displayed but the line at the bottom of the screen indicates that I am indeed on the web site. Previously, before I downloaded the the nerw version of FF, displaying of the web pages seemed slow unless I ensured by cursor was "off" the space on the screen that shows the web page.
I have checked with another browser and the web sites I went to are working and are displayed in that browser.

Could be that you need to clear the cache.
    ''Ctrl+Shift+delete''
'''Deselect''' info you wish to keep (such as Active logins, site preferences, history, and session)
Try 4 hours, then today, then try everything.
    Then try reloading the page(s).
May also try opening your command (run > cmd) prompt and type :
    ipconfig /flushdns
    ipgonfig /renew
leave space between command and parameter

  • After right-clicking the Firefox Icon, a window pops up with one of the titles being "Frequent." Web sites are always being added to this section that I do NOT want. Is there a way to control the number of listings under "Frequent?"

After right clicking the Firefox Icon, a window pops up above the icon with three sections in it. Two are titled, they are "Frequent" and "Tasks."
The "Frequent" section each time I see it, has added previous sites that I have visited. This list then has lots of duplicates in it. I do not need that, and would like to keep this listing a a favored few.
Is there a way to stop having superfluous web-sites added to the "Frequent" list ??
    Thanks!

  • Up graded 3.6 to 15.0.1 & all web sites are slow, slow, slow or will not even load, HELP!

All web pages load very very slow or not at all.

    * You can open the Firefox 4.0+ Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.

  • Firefox 8.0.1 - Photos on web sites are green

Since upgrading to 8.0.1, color and B&W photos on all web sites have patches of green in them. I opened the same web sites in both Chrome and IE, and all photos look normal. Is this a bug? Please advise.

That can be caused by a problem with the color profile for your display monitor or color profiles embedded in images.<br />
You can disable color management to test that.<br />
You can set the pref gfx.color_management.mode to 0 on the about:config page to disable Color Management.<br />
You need to close and restart Firefox to make the change effective.
    See:

  • Links in web sites are green but not in IE

    example site www.unc.edu/~rowlett/units/index.html
all the links are in pale green and impossible to read
Flags of the world site displays the same problem.
In IE8 there is no problem, but then I cannot print page.

If necessary then you can reset these prefs on the <b>about:config</b> page in case some are user set (bold).
    Search: browser.*color
    *browser.active_color
    *browser.anchor_color
    *browser.visited_color
    *browser.display.background_color
    *browser.display.foreground_color
    *browser.display.focus_background_color
    *browser.display.focus_text_color
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location/address bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

  • How can I get rid of the "Go to a Web Site" text in the location bar?

I know it's a small thing, but I find this text insanely annoying. I've been using the Internet and Firefox for years, I know what the location bar is for, thank you! How can I remove it?

@BikeHelmet, when you're on a real page, a URL should appear. Other people have reported intermittently not getting a URL, but that is not by design. It either is a bug or an add-on interaction. I suggest searching here for other threads on that problem.
As a temporary workaround, you can copy the current page URL from the Page Info dialog (Tools menu or right-click > View Page Info).

  • I want to add "auto-fill" - which is a secure one? If they are in the FF web site, are they checked out for security?

I used to have Google auto-fill, but that is gone since updating FF. If a add-on (like auto-fill item) is on the add-on site, is it safe? Has it been checked out for security?

Which ''spyware software'' software did you run?
Make sure that you allow pages to choose their colors and that you haven't enabled High Contrast in the Windows Accessibility settings.

*Check the exceptions in "Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions"
*Check the "Tools > Page Info > Media" tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images with the cursor Down key).
If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.

i have web page that i was using for a very long time but now you will not open it i would like for you to stop blocking that better jet turn off your security i have my own security

thanks. ssl3.0 encrypted connections can be no longer considered secure since an attack vector against them ("POODLE") has become known. please contact the webmaster in charge of this site and urge them to update their encryption to something contemporary.
    https://blog.mozilla.org/security/2014/10/14/the-poodle-attack-and-the-end-of-ssl-3-0/
if you want to re-enable ssl 3.0 in firefox you can do that - however keep the consequences in mind, that you will become vulnerable to the attack mentioned above: enter '''about:config '''into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''security.tls.version.min'''. double-click it, change its value to '''0''' and restart the browser.

  • Certain web sites are displayed all on the left side of screen, and make the sit three times as long

sites such as espn are fine but when i click on the tab for college football everything is aligned to the left and all out of place. It's just a white page with all the words and pics running down the left side of the page wich makes the page four times as long as it should be. What is the problem?

  • Web pages are printed incorrectly, i.e. left side of page in p.1, right side on page 2. This started recently. Correct printer is identified.

Firefox recently updated. Now, printing a web page results in left side printed on p.1, right side on page 2. Using the same Canon D9000 printer. Selecting horizontal format causes the left side of page to be printed 1/2 size on 1/4 page! Printing same web page with IE is OK. Printing from MS`Word is OK.

All web pages? Or just some? Example of a page where that happens?
Do those pages have '''Frames'''? <br />IOW, is the '''Print Frames''' section in the print dialog available (not greyed-out) for selecting '''''Each frame separately'''''?
If that isn't a Frames issue, my advice is to do the '''reset''' described here. <br />
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problems_printing_web_pages#Reset_printer <br />Make sure you reset all the prefs for that particular printer.
