When you change the size of the text within Internet
Explorer, it doesnt change on my page instead it makes the layout
slightly larger.
What is it within the page that controls the page's ability
to change the font when the user does it?

It will in IE if accessability options are enabled. So, you
cannot rely on
this as a way of preventing poorly build layouts from
breaking when the text
size is enlarged.

How do you add contacts to new web text service?

This has been an obnoxious experience with Verizon's new text service from the web site to any device. I tried to get started doing exactly what they said to do. I selected all my contacts that appeared in the list to add to the contacts in the web text contact list. I immediately got a message saying I had too many contacts. How much does it cost them for a few extra contacts when Verizon is already storing this information on their site from my iphone backup assistant. Then I tried deleting contacts from the list in front of me. The list did not work. It was a dead list that could not be clicked on unless you selected all contacts at the top. But that's exactly what Verizon didn't want. I preferred to use this list to remove contacts because it included my notes about the contact that would help me to decide contacts I didn't need. Then I tried choice two, a small window to the right of this that held all the contacts and I was able to click on those I could delete, even though this didn't include the contact info in the list form on the left. I spent a great deal of time doing this because each time I clicked to remove a contact, the list of contacts started at the very beginning again. I kept navigating each time I deleted a contact and finally after very long time had finished. I clicked to add the remaining contacts and received a big notice in my face that the session had timed out. I was extremely angry that Verizon carelessly forced me into spending all that time because they are too cheap to store more than the mandatory number of contacts they decided you needed. I got through the fury and started the wild goose chase of trying to contact Verizon. All those links did was to take me to messages and articles, etc. that had nothing to do with the problem. No matter how few or how many words I used to search, it still found nothing relevant. I reluctantly tried to use live chat which said chat available now. I clicked on chat and nit only directed me back to the same page where I could get no information at all. This sees like a great scam to me., The greedy telephone company tries to sell themselves as offering a free new service!! Then they make it impossible to set up the account no matter how hard I tried. I spent at least 3 hours going around in circles, actually believing each new sign to contact Verizon which always led back to the same dead end. How do you manage to get your contacts deleted to their arbitrary number within their very arbitrary time limit? There is no good reason for either the number of contacts to be limited so greatly or for the time it takes to do this tedious manual deleting to be limited in such a manner. Even if they are going to be nasty and limit the time you have to delete contacts, the least they could do is tell up front how long you have to make these cuts. Or they could have, when nearing the limit of time, given me a 5 minute warning. Not from Verizon. They should not have forced me to delete contacts to begin with and secondly there should not be time limit on such a tedious job. It really makes me hate a company that I already dislike. They are so greedy that my land line ad cell cost me over $250 a month. Any suggestions on how to complete this tedious task before the time is up would be greatly appreciated. Other companies allow their customers to easily send texts right from the website. Why Verizon decided to provide an app which I don't need and which will prevent me from using the we texting service is something I don't understand. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Heysan and Jivetalk look a lot like the mobile versions of the major IM apps (like http://mm.yahoo.com). If accessing Yahoo, I need to create my buddies and groups in Yahoo using a full interface, and they show up on the mobile interface. The mobile interface doesn't allow me the same flexibility.

Right click on the layer, Duplicate Layer, set destination to the other image file in the dropdown.

Safari not displaying web text correctly...

Under my admin account, in Safari, lots of sites displays text inaccurately, namely each letter presents as a capital A in a square box, while what I assume is background/template where text is in effect graphic displays fine...
Firefox displays the sites accurately...

It looks like you have a problems with the LucidaGrande font.
Here's a Quote from Kurt Lang on this subject:

Web Text Brightens when scrolling

Hi all - I am a new Macbook Pro (non-retina) owner. Have noticed that when I scroll in Safari/google/web pages etc, any coloured text brightens a bit when I scroll - this is quite off-putting. Any ideas how to stop, or is it just the way it is? My iphone and old windows laptop have never done this.

That's a know solved bug. You must install AS10g patchset 9.0.4.2.
For me it solved the problem.

Web texts error in Cirillic/Russian

Hi friends
My web show a table (based on a query) and a graph (based on a view).
The columns headers are displayed ok in russian, but the label series in the graphic not. The labels should be the same that in the table, but now display garbish texts. My system has unicode applied, and I have Nw04s running with Bex 3.5
Any suggest will be thankful!

Can you please check this; In the Region and Langauge Options dialog box, please change the following settings:
1. In "Regional Options" tab, select Russian.
2. In "Administrative" tab, select Russian for non-Unicode programs.
Note: Region and Langauge Options is available in control panel. Open this from control panel and do the changes.
And for BEx3.5 analyzer, if you want to display Russian characters, you need to set the whole PC to Russian codepage and logon with RU. This is the design of our BEx3.5.

Performance Issue in Web Application: Event 12605 "Web: Text Content"

Dear All,
we are about to deploy a couple of rather complex web applications (built with WAD) and are currently running performance tests with Mercury Loadrunner.
According to these tests our web application become very slow once more than 30 (virtual) users are running the application.
When analyzing the BW statistics data we found out that most of the runtime of our application comes from an event called "Web Java: Return Text-Type Content" (ID 12605).
Has anyone experienced the same issue? Or does anyone know what exactly this event means?
We are using XPATH in our web applications. Could this be a cause for poor performance?
Any help is highly appreciated!

Auto-fit web text on n900

i have a nokia n900, when you zoom-in (double-tap zoom isnt enough 'coz the text is still too small to read in many occasions), how do you make the text auto-flow/auto-fit the screen so you dont have to scroll right-and left ? its pretty annoying.

Unfortunately, Firefox for Mobile only supports full page zoom. I agree that it's annoying.
It doesn't look like there are any add-ons for this yet either (yet). https://addons.mozilla.org/mobile
Hopefully there'll be more focus on usability tweaks like this in the future.

How do you add a third party web text editor to Muse?

I'm recreating a site and I need a way to store publications on one of the pages of the site. It's something that is updated weekly so I need it to have an archive feature but I really no idea how this can be done. Here's an example:

As you can see from my Word document, I am a little light on the proper terminology. That's because LVLM comes with inadequate documentation.
I have already followed your recommended protocol for installing a 3rd party sensor (in fact, its the protocol recommended by Mindsensors) with the application set in the Remote Mode (.lvrbt), and it does create a sub-palette with all the Mindsensors functions on it. But when I drag the Mindsensors icon to the Block Diagram and select "Distance Sensor," the Distance Sensor (an IR sensor) doesn't work (even though the Mindsensor's Distance Sensor does work with NXT-G, RobotC and LVLM under other circumstances (see below)).
If I repeat the above process with the application set in the Direct Mode (.vi), I also get the sub-palette with all the Mindsensors functions on it. When I drag the Mindsensors icon to the Block Diagram and select "Distance Sensor," the Distance Sensor does work.
What I need for my mapping application is for the Distance Sensor to work in the Remote Mode. I called NI tech support and the first engineer told me to simple drag the Mindsensors Functions (.vi) onto the Block Diagram. I did this, but when I selected the Distance Sensor, the icon appeared, but the sensor did not work. Since I have no idea what's under the hood of the vi or a function, I assumed that simply dragging the vi/function onto the desktop didn't install the vi/function properly. I went back to the Applications Engineer, and he confessed that he did not understand the LVLM product.
My frustration is being punted to new people, none of whom so far (other than you, of course) understand LVLM.

How to change the size of the web item text in WAD 7.0

Dear All
I am quite new to WAD and I am having a problem with changing the font size of a web text item
I have searched already and someone suggested changing the Design property to HEADER1 or HEADER2 etc and then I should be able to change the font / size.
I have done this but to no avail
I want to have large heading across the top of the web template
am I using the wrong web item ?
I know I can key the text directly into the web template and change the font from the menu bar but I need it in an item as I want to export them through to PDF later
Would be grateful of any help

Shubhranshu - I have done what you said but as I have never used tags I have just had a look around and found that I can insert Any Tag but not sure if I should be doing that. If it is inert any tag , I chose FONT from the drop down and cbmAttributes defaulted into the custom tab for the class name but not sure what it wants in the Attributes and CSS Style tab, it won't accept what I am putting which is leading me to believe that I shouldn't be doing it that way.
Venkat - thanks for the links they will prove very useful. I've had a look and although they talk alot about the XHTML code for tags they don't actually say how you do it in the editor - I would like to produce one that way first and then see the code it generates for it. I'm a bit apprehensive with changing the code direct as I don't want to mess anything up.

from verizon responded and said it wouldn't sync to there, those have to be
entered manually. I thought that was a poor app, as apps like Heywire and
Whatsapp let you see your full contacts on their online web-texting sites.
I haven't used the verizon cloud. I thought it was $2.95/month? Would
backing up my phone to the cloud let me see my contacts when I use vtext?

Firefox always shows text fields in light blue. Can't fix it. Help plz. Hate using IE.

Some web text fields I can type in and I don't see the text just a light blue bar in the field. Other text fields I can see the text I type into them but all the text fields are always light blue. I tried un-installing and re-installing many times. On a fresh install the problem goes away for a day or two then it comes back and there is no way to get rid of it that I know of unless I reinstall. And that only fixes it for 24 to 48 hours or so. What is the best way to add text to an image

I used the draw ap div to add text to an image. will that cause any problems? If so, what is the best way to add text to an image? Thanks!

APDivs will kill your design unless you fully understand the css behind the scenes and plan accordingly. They really are completely unnecessary in the vast majority of situations.
An easy way to add "web text over an image" would be to use the background-image attribute in css for a standard <div> tag, then just add the text within that same <div>.
Something like this in the css (if you are using a 300x300 pixel image)...
#yourdiv {
     background-image:url(yourpic.jpg);
     width:300px;
     height:300px;
And then this in the html...
<div id="yourdiv">Your text here</div>
You would then position the <div> using css margins, floats and padding. Using position:absolute (APDivs) is typically something that will blow your design to pieces if the viewer changes their browser settings.

Text measurement in Fireworks CS3

Hi all,
I'm designing a phone app, and a styleguide for the design,
which require all the elements to be pixel perfect and add up to
the screen dimension. There are 2 problems I run into is how to
measure text in Fireworks CS3:
1) Fireworks CS3 measure text in point, not pixel. I use an
online converter but it doesn't quite work. (For example, 17point =
22.666 pixel. Should I just round it up to 23?)
2) Web text is measured based on the em square, not the size
of the character itself. Is there a way to find out the em square
size in Fireworks? (I thought the blue bounding box when the text
is selected is the em square, but I tried taking screenshot and
measure it, and it turned out that it's not the case).
So, to sum it up, what procedure should I follow to measure
text in a pixel perfect design in Fireworks CS3? Thanks.

But what about the tutorial you did for Lynda.com where you inserted the google map within an i-frame? I am in a similar situation where I am trying to just insert a scrolling text box within my layout done within FWCS4 using similar layout. Just simple scrolling text box that's it.
I see what you are saying though. DW is the true HTML dev tool but I'm just having too much damn fun in FW and don't want to leave. :]

Automator for Web feed- eReaders

There is one function I have yet to see a piece of software address. That is automating the process of grabing web text and sending to an eReader. Mine happens to be a Sony PRS-500, so I end up having to use Calibre to port content from my Mac (thank you Sony).
Specifically, I've been looking for something that's smart enough to be able to just go to unread RSS articles. Since no one seems to be interested in being able to grab text and send to another app in general I'm trying to go the Automator Route. I'm not familar with scripts, so I'm stuck using the predefined actions built into the app, which puts up another wall to getting the kind of functionality I want.
*Open Safari
*Open "unread" RSS Feed link
*Query html link tag name "Print Version" or "Print" -> go to link
- if no, grab main body of page text
*Copy Text to clipboard -> Send to "Calibre" as body text field
*Copy page header -> Send to "Calibre" in text title field
*Copy page html name, truncate to after .com .org. edu. etc.-> Send to "Calibre" in article author field
*Repeat for all unread articles
I can see where many sites won't have the same html formatting (for finding body text), and it would be hard to define all of the "if, then" descriptions to cover them, so I may limit myself to just a few sites. Maybe someone
If I can get this to work, I might even look at finding a way to make a drag'n'drop interface letting you drop selected articles to port over. It might even be smart to add a function to have the option to delete ported articles from the Calibre library after X days if unread.
Well, that is the end goal. Do you suggest any first steps to get there? Is there any software out there that can take over some of the necessary steps in this process? Is there actually anything out there with a similar functionality as my goal?
P.S. - Does anyone else think that there should be a functionality in iTunes do delete not-new podcasts from X provider after X days?

As you know, the iDisk will be terminated next June. Before then you will have to find another hosting service - any website hosting service should be OK and there are plenty of them - and upload your files and feed to it: obviously the feed will have to be amended to have the full URLs of all the media files.
That done, you have to persuade the iTunes Store to transfer its attention to the new feed. The method for doing this is described here:
