Web viewer examples

Hi all,
I'm looking for examples sites that have embedded web viewer content. I already found the online version of Bob Bringhusrt's DPS tips, but are there more?
I would like to convince a possible client that all the effort that goes into a digital magazine can also be shared online, thus allowing people without iPad/tablet to be able to view the magazine.
Thanks!
Jacco

The Washingtonian has one:

  • "Fast Web View" not supported in Acrobat X plug-in for FireFox/Chrome

The Acrobat X plug-in for displaying PDFs in FireFox/Chrome does NOT support fast web view.   This means that PDFs don't display until after the entire file has been download.
For example, try viewing this document in either IE(Windows) or Safari(Mac):
    http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/en/pdf/PDFReference.pdf
Notice how it opens very quickly, and then you can scroll around and view all the content as the PDF content strreams in?  In Safari you can see the download progress like you used to be able to see in all versions of the acrobat plug-in.  Note also that in the IE version, although fast web view is working, you cannot see the download progress like you used to be able to... Thats an issue, but not nearly as bad as the real issue...
Now try clicking the same link in either FireFox or Chrome (note that in Chrome you need to be sure that Chrome's PDF viewer is turned off and the acrobat plug-in is enabled).  Note that the PDF is not displayed until the entire file is downloaded.
This feature is VITAL for viewing large documents online.  I'm astonished that this has not been reported by other users.
Adobe -- PLEASE be sure that this gets fixed in the next update to Reader X!!  I was shocked to see that it was not fixed in 10.1.

WHY would you want to disable this? Linearized "Fast Web View" enabled PDF are the right and proper type of document to be created.

  • Embedded Youtube Video's not Playing in Web Viewer

I have several YouTube videos embedded in my folios. They all play fine when being viewed in the app, but if the folio is shared (by any channel) and viewed in the web viewer these videos won't play. Instead the user is greeted by this error:
    Not found
    Invalid character in path
I know that other apps using embedded youtube videos are playing just fine in the web viewer (I check out Wired) so I'm curious why mine are broken.
    Any thoughts?

This streaming YouTube example works fine in DPS Tips web viewer:
    http://contentviewer.adobe.com/s/DPS%20Tips/7f80a0ffed3a4ff08734bc905aac4a29/Advanced_Over lays/29_Video_Stream.html
Here's the embed code I used:
    <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/QV1UZ-88HeE?rel=0" frameborder="0" ></iframe>
Are you using the same embed code format for your overlay?

  • Hyperlink & Web View

In the new InDesign 5.5, the Hyperlink & Web View only seem to be able to work in the preview of Overlay Creator's window / panel.
But when I preview it through Folio Builder and the iPad, both of this interactive overlays doesn't work.
The rest of the features like Pan, Video etc all work though.
    Can someone please help?
    Thank you!

No problem! glad it worked. I forgot to mention the workaround for your Page hyperlink object
You can just create a URL button that links to the page within the article.
You do this the same way you did the jump to another article by replacing URL with "navto://articlename" but now we add "#" and the page number.
For example to jump to page two you replace URL with "navto://articlename#2".
I tested this method so it should work.
    Good luck and Best regards

  • Borders in Matrix with Group Report  Missing in Web view

    Please help.
I have a matrix with group report. When it is viewed in Report Builder live preview is fine, but when I preview in web I got two problem
Problem 1 - preview as HTML
No borders? all my cell borders, frame borders gone missing.
Problem 2 - preview as HTML CSS
The borders are there, but some data in the matrix report displayed wrongly.
For example, the data is "01 APR 2000 1800 - 20 APR 2000 2000", what is showing in the web view is actually
    "01"
    "APR"
    2000
    1800
i.e., is broken down into few lines.
Can anyone please help. Btw I am using Oracle Report 6i.
    Thanks.
    Joshua

For Simple HTML output, you can only get horizontal lines out of Reports. You will lose all vertical lines as well as other graphical objects (eg: polygons, polylines, etc.) This is because these objects are not supported natively within HTML.
However, for HTMLCSS, you should be able to get a lot closer since rectangles are supported. Though again; polygons, polylines, etc. are not supported.
Not sure what is happening to your text, possibly an issue with browser settings or you may need to reduce the font size in Reports to get what you want.
As has already been suggested, for better WYSIWYG output for the web from Reports, PDF is the way to go.

  • "Fast Web View" changing depending on versions

    Hi there,
We have some PDFs that need to have the "Fast Web View" option enabled. Although the files have this option enabled when viewed on version 6.0, when the files are viewed on a later version - Version X for example, some of them are still enabled but others have been changed to "No".
Any ideas what is going on? Are the files "Fast Web View" enabled, or not?
    Thanks for the help!

    Hi,
Currently the only explanation we have is "Acrobat is wierd". I could understand it a little more if all files were set to "Yes" in version 6 and "No" in other versions, however some files are "Yes" in all versions?!
    Please, any ideas out there?

  • Web view / Allow User Interaction always brings up Menu Bar

    Hi,
I have recognized that a web view on the page which allows user interaction (for example animations with buttons) always causes the menu/navigation bar to pop up which is quite a pain. All other interactive elements don't do it so why would the web view need to cause this.
mulitstates on top of it or fake buttons obviously don't work since the are needs to be touch sensitive.
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers,
    Alex

It depends on how the event listeners in the web view are written. for example simple <a href="link.html"></a> elements don't activate the DPS menu. The same is true for touchstart and click elements.
Try to implement your click/touch events differently. I haven't found the pattern which caused the menu to open, yet. But if you test around a little with different ways of aproch, I'm sure you can find a solutio (e.g. in one case I could solve it by not using event.preventDefault() in another case the touch event was bound within a javascript variable, which also caused the menu to show. etc. pp.)
    Good Luck!

  • DPS Web Viewer

I have a question regarding the v27 update.
Posted from the whats new section: "In the web viewer, articles that have an article access state set to "Free" in Folio Producer can now be viewed in the desktop web viewer without counting against the paywall threshold." does this mean that as long as an article is set to free, we will not be charged for the viewing of this article?
can someone explain this in laymans terms.
    thank you.

This refers to the paywall threshold that the publisher sets up for their customers, not the download counts that Adobe charges publishers.
Publishers can use the Folio Producer to set articles to Free, Metered, or Protected. In the Account Admin tool, they can set a threshold to limit the number of metered articles that each customer can view in web viewer. For example, if the threshold is set to 3, the customer can view 3 metered articles, and browsing to the fourth metered article displays a paywall message. In v26, both free and metered articles counted against the threshold. In v27, only metered articles count against it.

  • Web Viewer for an app

It looks like a web viewer exists. How can I direct a client/consumer to download and view the published app on a desktop?

If you have enabled social sharing in your DPS app, anyone browsing your article can share on social sharing sites. Whoever clicks on that shared link on a desktop browser from social sharing site will be able to view the same article on thier desktop browser (called web viewer)

  • Web viewer issues

Help! I've set up my account so there is a web viewer version of our magazine. I've enabled the web viewer in DPS account administration, published a web only version of our magazine, constructed the web viewer parameter with the intention of embedding the iframe in our website. I tried embedding the viewer in the sample files provided in this article - http://www.adobe.com/devnet/digitalpublishingsuite/articles/embedded-web-viewer.html without luck. I can live without embedding the web viewer for now. I just want to view the publication in a browser to see if it's working. For the life of me, I can't figure out what the url would be to view the un-embedded content viewer?
Why does Adobe not mention a url anywhere in their guides so you can view your web publication? They walk you through creating the parameter, but never reveal the first part of the url. I'm guessing the url is - http://contentviewer.adobe.com/ with your individual web viewer parameter attached. I only found the url by locating the lone example of a web content viewer on the site and using the url - http://contentviewer.adobe.com/s/OHSU%20Extra/b58273a80e044872af6f3d626b8432a3/OHSU%20Extr a%20Spring/Extra%20Spring%202013%20Simulation.html#lastPage
My content viewer is not showing up using http://contentviewer.adobe.com/my%parameter
Not sure where to go from here? Are there any common roadblocks when a web viewer? Anything I could have missed?
    Thanks

    What version is the app?
Perhaps you can reply offline and let me know which publication you're referring to, what issue and what article?
I suspect that you might have a web rendition available.  Also, is www.ourwebsite.com specified in your account settings as the hosting URL, the redirect URL or the Fulfillment level reached URL , and/or the paywall button URL

  • Problems with fast web view and really large PDF files.

If "allow speculative downloads in background" is set then the Fast Web view becomes nonfunctional.  Reader is makeing the HTTP Byte range requests but will ask for almost the entire PDF file in one range (180 MB of the 182 MB file).
If "allow speculative downloads in background" is not set then Fast Web view is working fine, Reader is making more HTTP Byte range requests but the larges ones are still small 20K or so.
Is this behavior being experianced by anyone else?
What are the disadvantages, if any, of having "allow speculative downloads in background" turned off?
    My environment:
182 MB pdf file (Optimized) around 41,000 pages.  I have also seen this with 42 MB and 25 MB pdf files.
    IE 6
    Reader 9.2
Apache webservers (On Solaris Apache 1.3.20 and Linux Apache 2.0)
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
The signing tool use Capicom (Library from .NET) to generate attached digital signature. I also tried signing with .net class SignedCms but the result is the same. What I don't understand is why some PDFs are working and others are not.
For example, I uploaded here a signed PDF which can be opened up succesfully: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/104591126/PDFs/Signed_Dummy1.pdf  (it is the same PDF but I didn't enable the fast web view)
Can you suggest other signing method?
    Thank you.

  • Web viewer update

When can we expect an update of the web viewer?
The content displayed is not responsive and is therefore not useable on most small screens

The v29 release introduced a couple of bugs that's most likely affecting you. These issues should be resolved within the next day or two.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/release-note/dps-bug-fix-release-notes.htm l
    Known issues with web viewer
Some scrollable frames in web viewer are no longer working properly with the v29 release. This issue is under investigation.
Social Sharing is not working properly for v27 and v28 apps for folios published after the release of v29.
Smooth Scrolling articles in web viewer may not display properly on the last page if the length of the smooth scrolling article is not an exact multiple of the folio height. For example, the last page of a 1024x2000 article may be cropped, but a 1024x1536 (2 times the height) or a 1024x2304 (3 times the height) should display fine. The issue is especially common in portrait orientation.
TOC images larger than 70x70 are being cropped instead of scaled.

  • Crystal Web Viewer executing stored procedure when going to next/prev page

We are using VS.NET 2005 with SP1 to design reports and embed them in an aspnet web app. Some of them take a while to run, even in the designer. In the designer, however, next page and print operations are speedy. In the web viewer, next page and print operations are agonizingly slow.
Viewing page 2 of a report seems to take about as long as viewing page
    1. After running SQL Profiler to trace the report, it is apparent that the entire report (Stored Procedure Call) is being re-run and just page 2 is being sent to the browser.
    Is this right?
Shouldn't the report document be stored on the server or event the client so that the desired page can be loaded without having to hit the database again??
We are using Business Objects Crystal Reports XI Release 2
Do you have a sample code on this issue.

It still did not work.  As you see my code has the Not Page.IsPostBack.  It still goes to the database to run the stored procedure over and over again.
Do an example with more than 100 records to have multiple pages.  After you go to page #2, change your data by updating one of your fields that will not fit the criteria you are looking for.  In this example I changed the strPeriod from 1 to 2 and it gives you a blank report.
    update PeriodTable
    set fieldPeriod = 2

    Hi C,
I apologize for the delay. The restriction only disallows having more than one iFrame that frames contentviewer.adobe.com on the same page. Given that your situation is hosting an iFrame on two different pages, this is supported. Hope this helps.
