Webcam detected but not enumerated. Logitec cam, JMF, GNU/Linux, v4l2

Hi,
I've been trying the whole day to get my "Logitech, Inc. QuickCam for DELL Notebooks" with Java Media Framework.
From searching the web and mainly the sun forums I kind of understand that JMF is not getting much attention from the developers.
Maybe I'm wrong. (I hope so)
I need to use something to capture video from a webcam on linux using java.
JMF uses v4l but, as the v4l people say on their site, v4l2 support of v4l is broken...
I downloaded the jmf-2_1_1e-linux-i586.bin, tried to run the programs, they run but the webcam is not listed for capture.
When I search for devices the program outputs: (jmfinit or the others from jmf package)
JavaSound Capture Supported = true
JavaSoundAuto: Committed ok
Name = v4l:UVC Camera (046d:08c6):0
Trying 4 320 240
Trying 15 768 576
java.lang.Error: Can't open video card 1
java.lang.Error: Can't open video card 9
Apparently the camera is detected but something else prevents it from being used.
I would say the v4l interface...
I can view correctly the output from my webcam using:
mplayer -fps 30 -tv driver=v4l2:width=640:height=480:device=/dev/video0 tv://
but if I change driver=v4l2 to driver=v4l it wont work anymore...
Is there a workaround? Am I missing something? because a few people were able to use it so why not me =)

  • IPhone Detected But Not Identified?

I hooked up my iPhone to my base that goes into my cpu and I got this message: "An iPhones was detected, but could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPhone and try again." I havent had any problems like this before. Will a reinstall over this iTunes fix the problem? I am running Windows XP. I have also noticed that when I plug up my phone, the Scanner and Camera Wizard pops up recognizing the iPhone as a camera. Also when running iTunes after I got that message, my cpu will freeze for about 5 seconds and work fine a little while then freeze again for 5 seconds. But when I close iTunes, it stops freezing.

I am having the same issue iPhone detected, but not identified. Did you get a solution to the problem? Had to go to th Apple store to register my phone. iPhone connected fine with their MacBook. That doesn't help me at home though.

  • IPod Nano 6th Gen detected but not recognized

Since recently, my IPod is not being recognized by iTunes (11.1.4.62 ). The error says that it is detected but not be identified properly. I went through all the troubleshooting steps including resetting my ipod, re-starting the driver, re-installing iTunes but nothing works. Interestingly, if iTunes is not open, I can see the iPod as a storage device, I can open and browse it. So I assume there is no error with the wire, the iPod itself or the driver. As soon as iTunes gives the above error, it stops being visible as a storage device. How can I fix this?

    Aridra,
Thanks very much for this - I had exactly the same problem; went through the same steps to no avail unitl I read your post.  Similarly, I uninstalled EVERYTHING Apple on my PC and re-installed. Bingo !!  my iPod is now recognised and synched.

  • Recognized in iTunes, but not as a camera in "My Computer"

I have a PC, running Windows Vista Home Premium (64 bit) SP1.
When I plug in my iPhone 3GS, it shows up in iTunes just fine. But I want to copy some pictures to my computer. It used to show up as a drive (with subfolders and files) but not anymore. What do I need to do?

Reinstall Apple Mobile Device USB Driver:
    1. Attach your iPhone
    2. Open Device Manager: Right click on My Computer and select Properties from the drop down menu. This will open System Properties. System Properties opens on the General tab so you will need to click on the Hardware tab.
    3. Remove iPhone USB Driver called Apple Mobile Device USB Driver. We want to remove this driver by expanding the list of USB drivers which can be done by clicking the + next to Universal Serial Bus controllers. Now right click on Apple Mobile Device USB Driver and select Uninstall from the drop down menu. Click the OK button on the pop up confirmation window.
Confirm Device Removal: Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
    4. Reinstall iPhone Driver:Once the driver has been removed you should unplug the iPhone from the USB cable. To reinstall the iPhone USB driver plug it back into the USB cable and the reinstalling of the driver will start automatically. Once you see the pop up message confirming that your new device is ready to use everything should be working properly again.
    5. Verify iPhone Camera Detected: Open My Computer now to verify that the iPhone is displayed and you can click on it as you previously were able to do.
Another way you can verify the driver is reinstalled properly is to open Device Manager and expand Imaging Devices. You should now see “Apple iPhone” displayed.

  • Detected but not transferring

For some reason everything is working (camera detected and controls working) but the only problem is that when I take a picture it shows up on my camera screen and says no card detected and doesn’t transfer to where its suppose to go in my lightroom library…frustrated especially since I know its worked previously. The only reason I’m changing back to sad tethering through lightroom is because canon has not upgraded their software for yosemite on mac. Thanks in advance for any help concerning this issue.

    Canon 5D Mark III
    Lightroom 4.6
    Mac Yosemite
It worked before but not sure if it is Yosemite that is causing the problem...everything looks good until I press the shutter and the picture shows up on the camera screen but doesn't transfer to lightroom. It is mind boggling. Thanks for any help.

  • IPod Nano 7 Gen is detected but not identified by iTunes on HP Windows 8

I own an iPod Nano 7 Gen and an HP computer with Windows 8. Ever since I installed the iTunes update back in November of 2014 my iPod has not functioned with iTunes. Whenever I plug it into my computer I receive an error message that reads "An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again. If the problem persist uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again." I have done all that the alert message has told me and even restarted my iPod. Has anyone found a simple solution to this problem?

I have an ipod nano 3rd generation that works fine on my Macbook Pro laptop, but when I plug it in to my Dual 800MHz PowerPC G4, (it's an early classic stack), the computer tells me an ipod has been detected but can not identify it, and tells me to unplug and replug in, which doesn't do any good. • Ipod detected but not identified when connected - so won't work

Every time I connect my ipod nano to my computer (power book g4) I get a response - "An ipod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the ipod then try again."
I have tried this many times and keep getting the same response. The ipod has worked before on this computer no problem. I recently had my system reloaded at a 'genius bar' and I wonder if this might be part of the problem.
I have tried rebooting both the ipod and the computer but the problem persists.
    Any suggestions gratefully received.

I had this problem today, but I was connecting the iPod to a Windows laptop. I had to disconnect and reconnect it several times before it identified it "properly."

  • My nano has been detected, but not identified. What do I do?

Help. I plugged in my iPod, and a little warning showed up that said, "An iPod has been detected, but could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again." Guess what? I did that maybe thirty times. Didn't work. Advice?

First I assume youre using ipod nano 5g and you have downloaded newest itunes 9?
    (thats a must).
Something that often gets usb devices to run again: (i dont run vista but you can google how to find the info here is one link as to how to find device manager in vista;http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windowsvista/f/opendmvista.htm)
Once you find device manager the basic info below applies:
Plug the nano in. Now in your Start menu, right-click "Computer" and select "Manage". Click "Device Manager".
"Expand "USB devices". Can you see an entry in there for the Apple iPod driver? If so, right click on that and select "Uninstall" Or if it offers to repair it can try that first. Click OK. (The uninstall choice may take a while, leave it to its own devices for a while. this only uninstalls drivers not itunes to my knowledge).
After the driver uninstalls, unplug the nano. Wait until it has finished saying OK to disconnect on the nano screen
Now plug the nano back in. This should reinstall the driver"
I found this info in the other forum for connecting nano to windows but Ive used it in past.
