Webcam no longer working in Skype

Hi All
I have a Dell laptop with an integrated webcam and for some reason last Thursday the webcam no longer work in skype. It was working the day before. It still works in yahoo. When I try to make a video call or test it under options - video settings I get a black screen with that moving circle indicating that the video is loading but it never loads. The internet connection is very fast. Has anyone else seen this issue or know how to resolve it?
Thank you in advance.
Alan

There are two main reasons why their are video incompatibilities in the newer releases.
1.  The way video support was redesigned in 6.2 and above left some cameras incapable of supporting the new video mode in older style hardware.  For this reason the Skype special version (6.1.x) was made available.  This also resolves video incompatibility issues between very old releases (i.e. Skype for MAC OSX 2.8 and Skype Special Version for Windows allows video communication to occur between contacts vs. just audio)
https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA12252/why-can-t-i-make-video-calls-on-the-latest-version-of-skype...
2.  Bugs/incompatibilities are sometimes introduced in the newer releases like the recently reported issues with Dell XPS model cameras.  In that instance, you would have to downgrade to 6.3 or below which does not have that flaw.
Skype 6.3 (the previous release)
http://download.skype.com/msi/SkypeSetup_6.3.0.105.msi
So while it may be highly inconvenient, if you are aware of the above you should be able resolve any video-related issue.  I for one have been fortunate as none of my laptop webcams including the one on my Dell has failed to work in any Skype for Windows release.

  • W520 webcam no longer working after Windows 8.1 upgrade

    Hello,
I upgraded my w520 from Win 7 to Win 8 last year with zero problems.
Now I upgraded my W520 Win 8 to Win 8.1 via the store download. Except the webcam everything works fine.
In e.g. the Skype desktop application, Google Hangouts or the camera app, the built in webcam no longer works.
The green light turns on, but I just get the crossed out camra icon in e.g. the Skype video options. No video.
I see there are no drivers yet for Win 8.1 on the Lenovo support site for the w520 camera.
In device manager it still shows the 2011 camera driver 1.1.0.1147 and says "This device is working properly."
But it does not work properly.
Did anyone get the camera to work or is it just a matter of waiting for a driver to be released eventually?
I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, camera is enabled in the Bios and permissions are set to give Skype and the camera app access to the camera. I also tried the W530 drives as was suggested elsewhere.
    Thank you!
    Solved!

try getting the communicastion utility installed under 8.1. The crossed image is the cameras security mode.

    Welcome to the HP Forum.
Skype does run on Windows 8.1, although you may need to update Skype to at least version 6.16.0.105

Hi, my built in webcam has stopped working on Skype following an update. Does this mean my macbook air has blocked videochat on skype? How can I fix this problem?

    See this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5306216?tstart=0
    FIX:
    1. You need Time Machine
    2. Go to folder /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/
    3. Copy AppleCamera.plugin to good place (usb memory stick is the best place).
    4. Go to Time machine in date that skype work fine.
    5. Change AppleCamera.plugin with file from Time Machine
    6. Restart system, Now skype need to work with camera.
    If that doesnt pass,
Suggest looking here, much success has been found:

  • Right-click Flash selection of webcams no longer works. Bug?

After some tense struggles and several failed webcam swaps, our support team discoverd that using right-click to select a webcam no longer works after our hosted service's recent upgrade. Is this necessary, or a bug?

Yes, the menu driven webcam selection process works fine. It's just the old way to select webcam source that no longer works. The worst part is there's no indication that the selection process that has always worked no longer works. Hence my technican swapping webcams, assuming they aren't working.

  • My webcam is not working on skype or facetime, it says cannot find.

Can someone help me figure out why my webcam is not working or able to be discovered when im using skype or facetime or at all since i downloaded Lion?

I'm never really a nick-picker about internet writing, but I couldn't even understand what you said until the third time I read it through.
Anyways, back to the subject. It may be because a lot of those websites are designed for Windows computers, and do not accept the Mac OS, just like how certain MSN Messengers designed for Apple cannot communicate with Windows computers through webcam, but can with other Apple computers.

  • USB Mic no longer works with Skype after 7.1 updat...

Using a USB headset with skype, worked with previous versions, works with other programs. I can hear people talk but they can't hear me! Skype detects the mic just fine but when I talk nobody can hear me.
I have tried updating drivers, re-installing skype, I have tried deleting my profile/preferences from the skype folder on my PC and starting from scratch, tried restarting my computer, re-installing my headset drivers, and tried restarting or re-plugging in my mic. Nothing works. Skype simply doesn't use my mic properly in the new version, previous versions did not have this problem, as I said mic works fine in all other programs.

Hi pa.elimination, Can you please reproduce the issue and provide logs as described in this link https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA12321/how-do-i-create-log-files under Skype for Windows Desktop and attach it to your post?
This will help us investigate and solve the problem you are experiencing.
Can you also try with the 7.0 version to see if that version solves your issue?

  • My mike no longer works with Skype

My 24" iMac has Mt. Lion installed.  When I connected to Skype, I could see and hear the other party but while  they could see me, they had no audio.  They only heard static, which went away when I put the built-in mike on mute.  The mike hears me as determined by the Input Level indicator, but it doesn't work on Skype.
    Any ideas ???

Skype was updated the other day: http://macupdate.com/app/mac/15805/skype
You probably have, but check that the Skype>Preferences>Audio/Video tab settings are correct as well as System Preferences>Sound>Input tab.
Edit: Try calling echo123 on Skype to test your settings.

  • Webcam is not working on skype with Ubuntu 12.04

I posted a week ago that I had solved the problem by downloading Skype 4.0 for Linux. However it turns out I spoke too soon. The video just freezes in Skype, though it is fine in Cheese, the Ubuntu webcam app. So I'm still high and dry and have to resort to booting Windows, darn it. I am running 64 bit Xubuntu 12.04 on an AMD quadcore system.

    bash -c 'LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype'64 Bit
    bash -c 'LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype'
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Webcam/Troubleshooting Make a launcher and try either of the above. Below may help you.Copy and paste the line below into the Terminal and press Enter.sudo gedit /usr/local/bin/skypeThis will open your editor with a blank text file, copy and paste the following lines into your blank text file.Use lines below for x86(32bit)#!/bin/bash

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so /usr/bin/skypeSave the file and close it.Now to make the file executable, copy and paste the following line into Terminal.sudo chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/skypePress Enter and close the Terminal, start Skype and webcam works. Now your webcam is working you can optionally (to improve the quality of your webcam picture), install v4l2ucp(video for linux 2 universal control panel) from the Software Manager.Type "v4l2ucp" in the search box and then select it.After installation go toMenu> Preferences > Video4Linux Control PanelThis will allow you to adjust the Contrast, Gamma, Auto Gain and Sharpness of your video. Simply click "Preview" and adjust the sliders to suit your requirements. If your webcam has a built-in microphone, to set it to default for use with Skype, go toMenu> Preferences > SoundClick on the input tab and select your webcam microphone from the choices listed for input devices.(Make sure microphone volume is not muted). As an alternative if the above fix does not work try using the lines below instead.Use lines below for x86(32bit)#!/bin/bash

A clean start for skypeThis can be tidied up by writing a small script in /usr/local/bin called skype that comes higher in the loading sequence that the script of the same name in /usr/bin/. That script is in charge of running skype; the new script loads the correct libraries then hands control to the former script. In terminal type:$ sudo gedit /usr/local/bin/skypeand paste the following 2 line code snippet into gedit:LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so
/usr/bin/skypesave and close. Now back in terminal make it executable$ sudo chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/skypeReboot type skype and the web cam just works. This was tested on Lucid with a Logitech Quick Cam Communicator.https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Webcam/Troubleshooting

  • Thinkpad SL500 webcam no longer working

    Hello,
I have a Lenovo ThinkPad SL500. I've used the built in video camera for years - but in the last few weeks, it disappeared. Unfortunately, it had been a little bit since I'd tried it, and I'm not sure when exactly it happened. Skype doesn't see a webcam, either.
In Control panel > Scanners and Cameras - nothing is there.
When I go to Lenovo Camera Center, the small box opens... but when I click the option for Roxio Media Import, which I've used in the past to take photos with the integrated camera, it says "Only one instance of Media Capture or Plug & Burn may be run at the same time." However, I've check the task manager, and I'm not seeing anything running. If I click the Video Conference link, it just wants to download Skype. Which I have, and is working fine, but only for voice calls.
I've checked my firewall settings, but without a better sense of what I'm looking for, it seems fine.
Per this forum post (http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/SL-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Integrated-Camera/td-p/510091) I tried to download the Communications Utility, but got the below error:
    Trying to install
    Error
Can't find script engine VBScript for script
    "C:\Users\corie\AppData\Local\Temp\is-UBAAH.tmp\SYSCHECK.vbs"
Then - "this system is not supported."
I'm really not quite sure what to do next. Thank so for any suggestions on what might have caused this.

    Hi, coriej
I did some research on the error "Can't find script engine VBScript for script" and found this thread from a Microsoft forum that may help. The solutions posted here mainly include registry edits or commands through the Command Prompt, but they are only trying to fix the above error, not necessarily trying to install the same software you are. That being said, however, the solutions in the thread have worked for others and may work for you. Once the proper steps have been taken to remove the error, then try reinstalling the software and see if it works. Also, registry edits can harm your system if done improperly, so I would follow the instructions to the letter and consider backing up just in case something goes awry.
I would also make sure that the camera is set to Enabled or Unlocked in the BIOS under Security ► I/O Port Access.
Best of luck. Let me know how it goes,
    Adam

  • Webcam no longer working

I have an ENVY m4-1015dx Notebook
I just used my webcam last week to skype, but I went to skype last night and the video option didn't work. Thinking it might have just been skype, I tried to open the camera app. It prompts me to connect a camera. I've been directed to go to imaging devices in the device manager, but the "imaging devices" option isn't there.
How do I get my webcam back?

    Hello @HelpDana ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're having issues with the webcam on your ENVY m4 notebook.
If the imaging devices section is not available in Device Manager you might need to show the hidden devices. You can do this by clicking View at the top of Device Manager and selecting Show hidden devices in the list.
If the webcam is not listed in Imaging devices, you may also find it under Other devices, listed as an Unknown device or Imaging device.
If you have any Unknown devices, right click on them and select Properties. In the Properties window select the Details tab at the top. Change the drop down menu to Hardware Ids and post the first ID in the list in a reply.
If the webcam is listed as an imaging device or as a webcam in Imaging devices after showing hidden devices, right click on it and select Update driver software. Allow Windows to search automatically and see if the driver installs and resolves the problem.
The drivers for webcams are built in to the Windows operating system and I cannot provide you with a simple download. If the device is not listed you're looking at a hardware issue or registry error. I would suggest performing a system restore to before the issue started. You can see how to do this here: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8) or Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7).
I look forward to your reply!
