WebCam not functioning on cold boot. Reappear on reboot.

I just bought a TouchSmart 610t.  I found out today if I start the computer from a power cycle (shut off and then power up), the webcam will go missing (no imaging device, question mark in unknown device dr in USB).  If I reboot the computer (via CTRL+ALT+DEL), the webcam shows up again.  I wonder if anyone has seen this.
I recently installed Windows 7 SP1 along with other updates.  Not sure if this is relevant.
Where can I find the device driver for the webcam?
I'll run more experiments to see if reboot fixes it 100%.  If so, I can live with it.  Love the computer otherwise.
Thanks!

  • ESATA HDD not recognised on cold boot, OK on reboot

Hi, I have a HP Elitebook 8740w from which I have removed the internal HDD and connected an eSATA HDD which is powered from the USB bus (I've done this for security purposes). I'm having a problem whereby when booting at  initial power-on, a Non-System disk or disk error is encountered after the HP screen. I can then boot into Windows by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL however having to do this each time I start up is not ideal. Also this error is not seen when rebooting, only at power on. I have tried powering the HDD from the supplied AC power pack and the problem disappears which make me think it is an issue with the USB power (either insufficient current supplied or full power is not available at start up). I have tried all combinations of USB2.0 and SuperSpeed USB ports with the supplied USB Y cable without success in removing this error. Any ideas? I would prefer to run the HDD from the USB ports to save carrying the AC power pack and because often only one power point is available. Thanks

I think I've worked it out... I was running the laptop on mains power only with battery removed. Tried it with the battery installed and problem disappears, it must provide extra power at startup to spin up the HD. Laptop AC adaptor is 200W though, would have thought this would be enough...

  • MSI E350IA-E45 USB Not recognised after cold boot.

Any one else have the same issue? My asus (Bluetooth) BT211 is not recognised after cold boot.
I also found the front USB's losing power when PC turned off. Connected them up to 5VSB to fix the issue.
MSI tech has not been back to me if this is a fault design, My motherboard issue or bios issue? Which also means to charge via front USB not work when turned off.
And to top it off I cannot find an answer to whether the Wake on Bluetooth USB is supposed to work?

How did you connect up the USB ports to 5VSB?
I have a similar issue with a newer MSI board and my USB mouse; I'd have to remove and re-insert the USB connection to the mouse after each cold boot in order for it to be recognized. I did a kludge fix by looping the mouse through a powered USB hub that supplies power to connected devices even when the PC is off.
This MSI board doesn't have a hardware jumper to enable 5VSB to the USB ports, unlike other motherboards. Also, none of the "green" or wakeup settings in the BIOS would cause the USB ports to have power when the PC is off.
So, how do you connect 5VSB to the USB ports? I've heard that crossing the regular 5V rail with 5VSB is a no-no, so I can't imagine how you did it.

  • USB Devices not working on cold boot

On a cold boot, I get either my mouse (Microsoft Optical) or my modem (see signature) not switched on.  If I reboot, or just re-plug them in, they switch on and Windows detects them.  The modem is attached to a port on the mobo, and the mouse to a powered USB hub.  The only other device powered at boot is a joypad (Thrustmaster Dual Power 2), which always works at boot.  Devices switched off at boot are a printer/scanner, desktop light, and an extension lead for a thumb drive.
Does anyone have a solution to this?

    Expensive friend,
Step for the same problems, where already I communicated diverse times with the support of the MSI not obtaining a definitive solution for this problem. It does not go to advance nor to make magic, therefore the problem has left of the plate-mother and not of the operational system. I have one mouse of the Microsoft who possesss led and when I give the departure in the PC the same does not light in the screen of informs of devices of the CMOS. It would have.
Then I am obliged to remove and to place mouse of the door usb so that mouse functions. The problem is that I have that to faer this almost all time that I bind the micron.
The bios beta that decided this problem palliative were 1.5B8.
I see that all the ones that pass for this problem are receiving the had respect, therefore this problem already is old and no solution was adopted until the moment for the manufacturer.
If my problem to continue, I will get rid myself of my plate and I will migrarei for another manufacturer who hears me and she respects me, therefore we make many times investment s in products that would not have to give as much migraine.
We buy TVs and DVDs and we do not pass for problems as these.
I was disappointed with the MSI in this part. It would go to acquire a VGA 6600GT, but today I think seriously about not buying more nothing of the MSI.
Still more for that it occurred with the 6800GT that were being sales and in the truth they were 6800NU.What it is this?
I advise to the friend who if not to decide its problem in at least 1 month, it speaks brazenly of its mainboard and it buys of another
manufacturer as the ABIT or same Gibagyte.
I have friends that they possess plates of the Gigabyte and are very happy.

HUH??? You did know this is an English languager board right? If not then please read the forum rules. Also note that hijacking someone else's post so you can complain is against the rules here as well.
This is entirely a user to user forum and as such MSI is not here nor do they read it. So yopur complaints whatever they may be as we can't entirely read your post is not getting to those folks that you want to complain at. Instead you are just making the rest of us upset for no visable reason. If you want to contact MSI to copmplain may I suggest a phone call. You may also want to call someone there that actually speaks the same language so there are no miscommunications as what is happening here.
Edit - his posts on this subject were all removed due to spamming the forum.

  • ATI Graphics card not detected on cold boot, works on warm boot

    Hi All,
I hope you can help me out with this.
    I'm using Radeon HD7850 with ATI-Catalyst.
The issue is, if I do a cold boot (physically turn off the power, turn back on) the system won't boot into X, only tty.
At this point, a reboot works fine.
Or if I don't turn off the power, just shutdown and reboot (warm boot), it works ok.
Here's the Xorg log on cold boot:

Setting the PCI BusID in Xorg.conf seems to have no effect, even if I set it to 6:0:0 or 7:0:0, its still the same.
Do I need to set AutoAddDevices off?

MisterAnderson wrote:Does the same happen with the opensource radeon drivers? (xf86-video-ati)
    Thanks for the reply!
The open source driver doesn't support my card yet. I tried installing it first since its the recommended driver, but Xorg couldn't detect any display at all.
It seems the PCI BusID is not being read from the xorg.conf file. There's auto detection everytime the PC boots.

  • Secondary display not detected on cold boot, nvidia

So since a week or two i have this strange problem that if i want to activate my secondary monitor(a beamer is plugged into it) nvidia doesn't find it. If i reboot my pc it works without any problems, restarting X doesn't solve the problem as well.
I usually use disper to do the job, but also in nvidia-settings the display isn't detected or shown.
My card is a nvidia 8800gt, my xorg.conf is just empty and i'm using 260.19.29-1 drivers, recent Xorg version and system is generally up to date.
Any hints where i can look for errors? dmesg didn't give me any usefull information, but i will quote it anyway, maybe you gues can see something in it.
    thanks in advanced!

    Thanks for the reply!
The open source driver doesn't support my card yet. I tried installing it first since its the recommended driver, but Xorg couldn't detect any display at all.
It seems the PCI BusID is not being read from the xorg.conf file. There's auto detection everytime the PC boots.

  • Neo4 Platinum failed to cold boot?

when power up the system, power LED is lighted, the CPU fan is running, everything seems to be ok, but no screen, no BEEP sound--> hang
need to press RESET button many times, then it will boot to OS without any problem, and system is stable
    what's the problem?
    thanks for any advice!!!
MB: MSI Neo4 Platinum, BIOS: v1.2
    RAM: 512MBx2
    CPU: K8 3200+, overclocked to 240x10

    Hi all, 1st post here.
    System specs:
    AMD 3000+ CPU Winchester CBBID
MSI K8N Neo4 SLI Platinum with latest bios
    MSI NX6600GT video card
    OCZ PowerStream 420 PSU
2 x 256mg OCZ Gold rev 3 dual channel set
    Asus DVD-Rom E616P2
Maxtor 80 gig SATA pluged in on SATA #4
    Floppy drive
    WinXP Pro SP2
I am also affected by this cold boot issue when overclocking. Anything above 229 will give me this issue.
The PSU I am using was running 6 months on an Intel rig without issues and the memory is memtest stable upto 250 at stk.
On top of the cold boot issue I was getting a BSOD sometimes when booting into winxp after the Core Center loads. I noticed I had a jumper on the hdd set to master, so I removed it and the blue screens have stopped ... so far. I was told by a friend that I should plug the HDD into #3 or #4 Sata connector which I did.
    Vcore 1.45v + 3.3%
    NF4 1.6v
    Memory 2.7v on auto according to cpuz128 2.5,3,3,8 1T
    HT 3x
    CPU ratio 9x
I am able to reach 250 HTT speed (FSB) by using clockgen and it passes windows memtest and is OCCT stable.
However, the only way I have found to pass the 229 barrier in the bios and not have a cold boot, is to set the HT multi to 2x or 1x.
Anything more will produce a cold boot.
Since I removed the jumper from the HDD The system has been running without issues at 226 HTT speed (FSB).
I tried to OC past 229 again and got a cold boot at 230 ... again.
I was using a K8N NF4-F before and had the same cold boot issue however, it would not go over 229 unless the HT multi was set to 1x.
If it doesn't post do the following:
If system is on with a black screen, shut down by holding the start button until it does.
Turn off monitor, speakers and switch off on power supply.
Remove the power cord from power supply.
Push the start button until nothing lights up when you do. This will drain any juice left in capacitors.
After doing this you can reconnect the power supply, turn on the monitor, then the switch on the power supply. I have noticed many times that when you turn on the power supply switch the system will start up without pushing the start button.
If it's still dead, do all of the above again and add this extra step:
After you have pushed the start button to remove any power left in capacitors, push the CMOS clear button on the board and hold it about 1 second.
    Then reconnect etc etc.
In the countless times I have done this I have never had to remove the battery but that would be the last thing I would try if all of the above doesn't work for you.
If you cleared the CMOS you will need to enter the system time, date and any other settings you had.
I hoping MSI will address this issue.
The only work around so far I found it using clockgen.

  • Reboot when cold booting

    Hi.
I encrypted my MBP harddrive with the new FileVault feature. Recently my MBP developed an issue where it would hang a while on the spinner when cold booting, then just reboot - and then boot just fine.
This requires me to type in my decryption password two times. Doesn't seem healthy. I tried restoring file permissions from Disk Utility but this didn't help.
Do you know what is causing this and perhaps how I could fix it?

  • Satellite P300D-110 integrated webcam is not functioning properly.

    Hello everyone,
as the title says, the integrated webcam of my Toshiba Satellite P300D-110 is not functioning properly. Allow me to explain. Using the Camera Assistance Software I can take photo's and record music. If I try to record a video the preview screen turns up black and the end result tuns out black aswell, completely black.
Whenever I try to use my camera with applications such as MSN Live Messenger, Skype or at community websites using Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari the application in question crashes.
    *How did this happen?*
    You tell me. This is how it went;
    * Day 1: I've started up my laptop and looked at my fresh and clean install of windows vista home premium. I tried out my webcam using the webcam assistance software and it worked like a charm.
    * Day 2: Once again I boot up my laptop and try to start my webcam only to find out that it no longer functions.
    To give a quick summary of the thread;
    * Using Camera Assistance Software provided by Toshiba I can take pictures.
    * Using Camera Assistance Software provided by Toshiba I can record sound.
    * Using Camera Assistance Software provided by Toshiba I can _*NOT*_ record or preview a video.
    * I can not start my camera using any other application such as but not limited to; MSN Live Messenger, Skype, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safar.
    * I have downloaded and isntalled the latest drivers from the Toshiba website.
    * My laptop is about a week old.
I'm not sure what more I can do, all I want is for the webcam to work, if anyone can help me out please do so.
And if possible WITHOUT having to reinstall Windows Vista Home Premium.
I haven't even used it and wouldn't want to make that a solution for all the problems that might occur in the future.
    Sincerely,
    a sad customer.

Using Camera Assistance Software provided by Toshiba I can NOT record or preview a video.
Can you please describe the steps how you try to do this? I must ask you this because it runs well on my notebook. When the recording is finished player opens and you can see recorded movie. It is avi format and at the top of this player you can see the path where the movie is saved.
Most strange thing for me is that you cannot use it with Skype. Ok for MSN is not the perfect but there is absolutely no problem with Skype. Check the settings and it must work somehow.

On cold boot or restart, MacPro will not startup unless CD Tray is open. Any ideas why ?

hello Singyt, the bug report associated to this kind of crash indicates that it might be a malware related issue.
your crash report also shows a file named "urixalog.dll", which doesn't turn up any search hits on google, which is also slightly suspicious. could you search for that file on your pc and upload it to a site like virustotal.com in order to analyze it.
please do a full scan of your system with the security software already in place and/or a different tool like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes].
[[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]]
edit: the bug report also suggests that a monitoring program named spector pro/360/... which essentially acts like malware, might cause the issue. in case you have that installed please remove it. otherwise [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Firefox%20crashes%20when%20you%20open%20it#w_backdoor-ulrbot-c here] would be a removal guide for urixalog.dll

  • KT4V not seeing HD on cold boot

    Guys,
About a 2 months ago I built my first PC, an Athlon XP 2400, 512MB, WD 80GB-8Mb cache HD, DVD-ROM, with a MSI KT4V mobo.
I was finally able to do a new install of XP Pro with the Xmas break and now I have a weird problem...When I do a cold boot it says looking for boot record from floppy, then looking for boot record from CDROM, then finally boot failure.
I've gone into setup and have it set as my HD as the 1st boot device, floppy as 2nd, and DVD as 3rd. When I come out of setup it boots up fine and I can do a warm boot with no problems; until I do a cold boot.  Then I get a boot failure again.
I've changed settings so I only have the HD as the boot device and no difference.
I've flashed my BIOS to 1.9 and it took fine but no difference.
Any ideas for me to try?
    Thanks.
    Lou.

Wow, took out the jumper and all is fine.  THANK YOU.
I can't even see boot up specs  (amount of RAM, BIOS version, etc)  anymore because it boots so fast now, I may have to disable quick-boot now.
I guess I was able to see the boot up specs because it was looking for the master?  Can anyone explain this, I'd really like to understand because I've never heard of this before.  Is this just a MSI mobo anamoly or in general?
Thanks again everyone, and Wonkanoby, I owe you a beer.
    Lou.

  • HDD detection prob. Not cold boot

This is rather odd... I can boot my pc - and have both my disks detected. If however, i reset - either by button or restart my slave disk does NOT detect.
    How does that add up?
I do have the latest bios
    Ty in advance.

    Thanks for your replies  :P
Sorry to not include more info mitch, but i was probably being naive and hoping for some fast, common solution to the problem.
    The bios is currently 1.7 - 875p Neo FIS2R.
There are two disks on the primary controller, one strictly master and one strictly slave - They are connected correspondingly to the cable.
It fails to detect the slave, but ONLY on warm boot. This - i find odd. Cold boot works perfectly.
The master disk is a Quantum fireball AS40.0
And the salve is a DeskStar 120GXP 60GB, IBM
I'm sure there's some easy'ish workaround like swapping the slave/master relationship or changing channels and so on, but a fix would be nice.
I hope i have supplied enough info to maybe ring a bell, if not, and i am indeed the only one with this problem - screw it, i like the board better than the disks
    - And i did in fact read the mentioned thread, but the it is not the same type of problem.  )
    Thanks in advance.

  • Macbook 4.1 webcam not working

Hi, i have problem with webcam. i have installed firmware, loaded uvcvideo, and nothing. no /dev/video0
my kernel version 2.6.37, macbook 4.1

I'm on macbook 4.1 and the iSight has been working since the first time I installed Arch.
    Have you done https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Macbook#iSight ?
Just make sure you have the extracted firmware
    # ls /lib/firmware/isight.fw
and do a cold boot (not restart but shutdown then power-on).
    I don't even have uvcvideo in rc.conf's MODULES() (but I got MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes")
Just a wild guess, have you try installing pommed ?

  • TS140 Second HD (non-Lenovo) not seen until after boot

I have a TS140 (70A4001MUX), which came with a 500 GB HD. I installed Win7Pro x64, replaced the 4GB RAM with 16 GB of Crucial RAM, and added a second HD (4 TB Western Digital Enterprise WD4000F9YZ). Both HDs are configured GPT, I am booting via UEFI, and the latest firmware (99A) is installed.
This configuration mostly works, except that the second HD isn't visible until after booting. It does not appear in BIOS, which means I cannot boot from it. I have a boot partition on the second HD, cloned from my primary boot partition via Casper software. Normally, this provides me an alternative boot in case of drive failure or corruption on the first HD. But, on the TS140, attempting this alternative boot fails completely, as though the second drive were not there at all. Once I'm booted, though, I can read and write to the second HD all day long. Fwiw, all 16 GB of the new RAM does appear in BIOS.
    The second HD:
    Does NOT appear in BIOS.
Does appear after boot to Windows 7.
Does appear when booted from CD, such as WinPE and Paragon boot CD.
Why won't BIOS recognize the second drive, that is clearly present and functional? Thanks for any thoughts and suggestions.

Do you see the same behavior on a cold boot and a powered-up reboot?
Since I'm not familiar with ThinkServers, I'm just tossing stuff at the wall here, but I wonder if the new drive is slow to initialize and BIOS is not waiting long enough to detect it.  Cold boot and reboot might behave differently in that case.  Not sure how to fix that if it is the problem, but it might help to narrow things down.
[edit]  There is a hard disk pre-delay option in BIOS.  Not quite sure if it's intended for this situation (the one my WAG applies to) but might be worth a try.
