Webcam not recognized

Hello,
I've installed version 4.6 but my notebook's built in webcam isn't properly recognized.
The webcam is listed in the setting's dropdown menu but after selecting it no image appears.
I am using a HP Elitebook 8460p.
I am quite sure that the webcam was working before.
Regards,
Phil
Edit:
Okay, the webcam video is being normaly transmitted it only doesn't appear in the settings screen as it should.

That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region.

My built-in webcam on my Satellite A305-S6905 is not recognized by my laptop!!!
I click on Camera Assitant Software to boot up the cam and get no where.
The error message reads: Webcam is either disabled or failed. Please check your webcam settings.
I have no clue where the webcam settings might be. I have downloaded the driver 2x from the Toshiba recommended downloads: Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility for Windows Vista (32/64bit) / XP(v8.7.0.1007; 04-13-201... I get a message that the download was successful. Then, I check the list of devices in the Device Manager. The Chicony USB 2.0 Camera software is nowhere to be found. I cannot select it to Update the software. I have restarted my computer 2x. No help.
Does anyone have any suggestions?   My daughter is leaving for Hong Kong and Vietman and I would like to track her journey using Skype. Thanks, NC

Thank you for the help Jerry, but I already tried that download. After downloading, I recved the following message: “The setup has detected that version (1.07..) of Camera Assistant Software for Toshiba is already installed. This setup installs an earlier version of Cam Asst. Soft for Toshba. You will need to uninstall the previous version (17.193.0508L) before installing this version.”
I have not tried to find the earlier Cam Asst Soft for Toshba version to uninstall yet. Should I find the earlier version, uninstall and download this earlier version?

  • Webcam not recognized by YouCam5-partially resolved

If your webcam isn't recognized by YouCam5 try this:
    1-open Service Console
2-locate "Rilevamento Hardware Shell" (thai is the italian name of the service)
    -stop the service
-start the service (better than restart)
    -open YouCam5
    your webcam will be recognized

  • ASUS USB2.0 Webcam not recognized by Skype 6.18.0.106

Hello Skype Community members, since I updated Skype to the latest version 6.18.0.106, Skpype says that no camera was found which makes me unable to make video calls. In the previous version my camera worked without any problems. As a workaround I was installing previous Skype version, but since Skype is smart enough to detect being not up-to-date, it kept logging me off. I would appreciate any ideas how to resolve my problem. My computer spec:

  • Re: post on Logitech C270 webcam not working with Skype

I am a windows 8.1 user and I'm using Skype 7.7 and it has all the updates that it needs as of right now and my Logitech C270 Webcam won't work with my Skype and only shows the loading screen. Can you explain to me why it won't work even if I've reinstalled Skype multiple times and restarted my computer as well? Thank you very much.

It seems that the latest Skype versions don't work with AMD Radeon R7 200 Series graphic card. Try to uninstall the currently installed version and install the 6.14.0.104 version using the download links provided here: http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-desktop-client/ASUS-USB2-0-Webcam-not-recognized-by-Skype-6-18... Make sure to disable automatic updates:Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Automatic updates ->Turn off automatic updates

I updated to 8.1 and my webcam was not recognised (Microsoft Lifecam Cinema) I thought my cam may be faulty so bought a new com (Logitech C270) same problem.
So finally I reinstalled Windows 8 at the cost of losing every thing on my hard drive. I want update as I liked most of 8.1 but will not until I can use my webcams.
I went through all the rigmarole of reinstaling drivers etc. So please dont give be the stock answer of installation as its already been done.
All I need to know is if Microsoft has fixed this problem or not.

    Hi,
With so many brands of webcams and cameras available, there are many reasons why something might not work. Each brand is different, so it's a good idea to check the manufacture's website for user guides and troubleshooting help.
I checked Windows Compatibility Center, found Logitech C270 Webcam is compatible with Windows 8.1. However, some people still had problem with Windows 8.1.
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/CompatCenter/ProductDetailsViewer?Name=Logitech%20C270%20Webcam&vendor=Logitech&Locale=1033%2C2057%2C3081%2C4105%2C16393&ModelOrVersion=V-U0018&BreadCrumbPath=Logitech%20C270&LastSearchTerm=Logitech%2BC270&Type=Hardware&tempOsid=Windows%208.1

  • Mac G5 not recognizing webcam

I purchase a webcam for my mac G5 with a usb connector, but the computer is not recognizing the device. If someone has knowledge of what I need to do or any software I can download to fix this issue, please let me know. Your Help will be gladly appreciated.

Hi, and a Warm Welcome to Apple Discussions and the Power Mac G5 Forum!
Is the webcam recognised at all in Blue Apple menu > About This Mac > More Info > Hardware > USB (System Profiler)? It may be shown as 'USB Device'. If you connect and disconnect the webcam and then hit Command(Apple)-R(efresh), you should see if it is detected or not.
It seems many USB cameras do not have 'drivers' for OS X.
    You could try

To use a USB cam with iChat there is

My webcam and everything was working fine last night. I even used my webcam on the new yahoo I had installed a few days before. When I got up this morning and turned on my laptop, I kept getting pop ups every 3 minutes stating USB device not recognized despite not having anything plugged. My laptop is  HP G60-630US Notebook PC, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit.
There were no changes made last night. Although after all this I tried removing all of the usb and rebooting, but nothing worked. I am still getting the frequent pop ups. PLEASE any help would be appreciated.

    Try this
Use device manager to manually install the webcam driver, Open Device Manager, right click on the unknown image device and select "Update Driver" then "Browse my computer for driver software", then "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" then click the "Have Disk" button, then click the "browse" button, browse to "C:\Windows\inf" folder and find "usbvideo.inf" and select it , then hit OK, drivers should load.

  • Device not recognized (NEW KIND OF PB) (Video Blaster Webcam 5)

    Hello
I have a Dell Optiplex GX0, Pentium-3 730MHz, 384 SDRam, 2 USB ports, Win XP pro SP2. All are fully operational. Newest Creative Webcam driver (2002 for xp, something like that)
My webcam 5 was ok until this morning
    the day before yesterday: ok
yesterday : ok ----------- and then I installed Active Webcam 7.6 (webcam CCTV software)?I configure, etc. It works.
    this morning: ok ---I change some configs :gain / frequence Hz / via the Creative config sofware, it's ok?----------then I use Active Webcam 7.6 : I change the frame rate configuration of this programm (5 +"apply", then 20 +"apply", then 5 +"apply" , 0 +"apply" ) It's okay agin?
In the end I decide to set?5 frames/second, AND THEN......BUG!!!!!!!!!!!Active Webcam 7.6?totally freezes so I kill the process via ctrl+alt+suppr
Even the Creative config sofware freezes when I want starting it. well, I kill it too.
I reboot, AND THEN.......crap.... I see the usb icon on the tray of the task bar?saying "DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED" ......and the device manager of the system panel does not show my webcam 5 any longer.
........well nothing very annoying, I thought, it is worth rebooting, re-install creative software/driver with new/old versions, seeing some topics on forums etc...
NOTHING, I re-intall, plug-unplug before or after (re)installation, verify USB status via the device manager (it says ok, except for the "not recognized device" http://forums.creative.com/i/smilies...miley-wink.gif and via the BIOS (already switch on).
Can you help me please?Thank you for your advice !

Mmmmmmmmhmmmmmmmm? After many many attempt of pluggin/unpluggin, I achieve to detect and keep my webcam detected. It is working a little bit...... I mean everything is ok, but when I attempt to reach the "source" option of Creative Webcam Control, this programm freezes and the webcam LED becomes switched on for an unlimited period. The only way escape it is to plug/unplug again several time. I HAVE AN ANSWERABLE QUESTION NOW?: :smileyvery-happy:--How can I reset my "source" and other options of Creative Webcam Control in order to get the original automatic producer settings ? --Moreover, I fear the register still definitely keep a trace of my old/bugging settings (that's why I get problems even though I re-install). How can I erase Creative Webcam 5 settings and Creative Webcam Control settings in the register, before properly re-installing my new drivers+programs ? Ps : should I keep the old driver, or take the xp whql driver ? (the new driver might be a source of problem ?)

  • S205 w/ Windows Home Premium not recognizing Integrated WebCam - Windows 7 Drivers?

I just got an awesome deal on an S205 netbook. Everything is great except that I cannot get the WebCam to work. This is a deal breaker. If I can't figure it out I'll be returning it.
So far I have tried various things. When I first started this I couldn't figure things out. There was no camera in the Device Manager and nothing obvious on the system (hardware, software) about a camera, except that I can see it, physically on the netbook and know it came with a WebCam. How to use it? Nada. So I went to the Lenovo site & installed a driver and then Skype. The microphone works in Skype, but no picture. Totally black. However, it automatically brings up Lenovo YouCam when you test the video in Skype. So that helped as this software was not recognizing a camera either, so I knew it wasn't just Skype.
Then I figured out that I needed to hit Fn+Esc to enable the webcam. I thought that was the ticket. However, as soon as I did that I got a message that the USB device was not recognized. I uninstalled the driver and went back to reinstall it to see if that might help, however at this time I realized that the driver's on Lenovo's site for the s205 are for XP not Windows 7. Seriously? Turns out there are two different sites. http://support.lenovo.com and http://consumersupport.lenovo.com The later has the Windows 7 version, the first site lists Xp drivers ... Installed the W7 Driver again, but still not working or recognizing the camera ... Anyway, I am not a techie, but I am pretty decent at figuring stuff out or Googling and researching this stuff online. Or following your directions/suggestions. From my searching so far no one seems to have this exact issue. Most it is either not having software to use the camera or not having it enabled and neither of these are my issue. Any ideas for what my next step should be? Details on my system below. Thanks!
    Lenonvo ideaPad - 11.6" 1366x768 LED; AMD Dual-Core E-350 1.6GHz; 4GB RAM; 500GB HDD; 802.11n; Windows 7 Home Premium; ATI Radeon HD6310M graphics; webcam; 6-cell battery
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I've had some webcam issues, too.
Sadly, the webcam device ID is not listed in the driver available for download at the support page.
Thus, installing this driver is pointless.
Nevertheless, you can force the driver installation and it will work as it should.
Please have a look at the device manager.
Double-click the unknown device, go to Details and select the Hardware ID property.
    It should be USB\VID_5986&PID_0292&REV_1403&MI_00
(In case you got a different VendorID/ProductID, google them. You should quickly find something. Be sure this device is the webcam and not some other device. Otherwise don't continue.)
Now unpack the driver setup file with 7-zip or WinRaR.
Back to the Device Manager -> Double-click the device, select the Driver tab, click Update Driver and browse for the extracted folder. You will need the Bison subfolder.
    Good luck.

  • Microphone and Webcam not working/Webcam not recognized by YouCam

    Hello,
I have a dv7-6c95dx and my YouCam  program tells me that it does not recognize my integrated webcam. I have read all of the webcam forums on this site and clicked on all of the links people have posted in the forums. I have uninstalled the CyberLink YouCam program and it still comes up with the same messages. The webcam also does not show up in my device manager. The microphone is malfunction as well, it will not work any any programs including skype.
I have heard that the webcam can come unplugged internally, will that also cause the microphone to stop working? I have run out of options and I do not want to pay anyone to fix it. I would appreciate any advice on this subject.

    Hi DillOrNoDill,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Pavilion dv7-6c95dx Notebook and sound and microphone issues and Webcam not working correctly. I would be happy to assist if needed. Try these steps first.
    1. Right click speaker icon (right hand corner)
    2. Select Playback devices
    3. Right click Speakers
    4. Enable it and set as Default
    5. Click Apply/Ok
You could also try Microsoft troubleshooter located on your Notebook.
Here is a document on WebCam troubleshooting. The Webcam will be listed in your device manager under Imaging devices. You should be able to click the action button and scan for new hardware.
    Hope this helps.
