  • Cannot load Windows 7 - Satellite C660 keeps freezing

    Hi Everyone.
This is a biggy. I have a Toshiba AMD Vision Satellite C660 / C660D laptop with no Windows installation disc. Last week it became very sluggish, then the interface resembled that of the safe mode interface and it finally became completely unresponsive, therefore, via F8 on start- up I selected the option which allowed for it to revert to factory settings (I no longer have this option)
The DOS screen appeared and started loading as normal then that become unresponsive so I restarted only to see Windows start up for the first time and carry on loading, prior to this I had to create a boot cd from my other laptop to reboot the system as I had lost the boot mngr.
The last part of the installation process began whereby a white Toshiba screen is displayed with a green progress bar that loads certain drivers (see attachment). There are 39 steps to this process and I seem to remember from before that the computer should keep restarting itself, but it keeps freezing after about two steps. I kept switching it off and eventually the system administrator locked my accounts.
Once again I restarted the PC but this time in safe mode The operating system did indeed load in safe mode and I created some new accounts with administrator privileges, however, I am still unable to load the whole operating system as it keeps freezing during the last part of the process.
I have very limited knowledge of loading operating systems so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
First of all it was a big mistake NOT to create an Toshiba recovery disk.
The HDD recovery which you were able to start by pressing F8, is only possible if the HDD is not faulty.
I think in your case I think there is something wrong with the HDD because there was an boot mgr notification which means that notebook cannot find an boot manager in order to boot up the system.
I have no other idea as to try to reinstall the system using the Toshiba recover disk or another Windows 7 disk (of course if you own one)
If the recovery would fail, you have to investigate what hardware part might be affected. I think in such case its needed to start with HDD check.
Possibly the HDD needs to be replaced. Of course it possible that Im wrong an other part is affected but at first stage you need to check new OS installation.
A recovery disk can be ordered here:

  • Cannot load windows 7 through bootcamp

i have been trying to load windows 7 through bootcamp. but after the initial partition process, the screen goes blank with a cursor on the top left corner.
it does not come to life even after 4 hours.
i did not have any problem making the partition before. this is the first time i have had this issue.
    can anybody help?????

I just successfully installed Windows 8.1 Update 1 on BootCamp on Mac OS X Yosemite. Here is a step by step I just wrote, hope it helps y'all:
How to successfully install Windows 8, or above, on Mac OS X Mavericks or above:
    Requirements:
1- Windows OS ISO Image file
2- An 8GBs USB Flash Drive
3- A good Internet connection as you will need to download the Windows compatible drivers for your Mac
    Steps:
1- Open up Disk Utility and create an additional partition for Windows formatted as ExFat. 100GBs, or above, is recommended as update to the operating system, as well as Apps requiere space on your HD or SSD [This step can be done during Mac OS X's installation process]
    2- Open up BootCamp Assistant
3- Make sure only the 'Create a Windows 7 or later version install disk' is checked and your USB Flash Drive plugged in and click 'Continue'
4- Click 'Choose' and select your Windows ISO Image file
5- Select the USB Flash Drive you will be using during the installation process and click continue to confirm
6- Once done, restart your Mac and hold down the 'alt/option' key on your keyboard to bring up the Boot Menu
7- Select the USB Flash Drive named Windows, not the UEFI Boot
8- Install Windows as you normally would
    * Remember to press and hold the 'alt/option' key, and select the Windows Partition, whenever the installation process requires your Mac to restart

  • Cannot load windows 2000 (sp3) on pm8m2-v with single sata drive

I'm using a single WD 80GB SATA Drive (wd800jd) on the pm8m2-v mainboard's via sata controller.  I've gone through the hit F6 and selected the windows 2000 ata/atapi driver and the raid driver (both separately) and the OS install always says it finds no hard drive.  Then I tired both ata/atapi and raid driver for windows xp (even though i'm attempting a windows 2000 install) and it actually finds the drive, but after formatting and copying files, i get an inaccessible boot device failure when it reboots to begin setup.  i've downloaded most recent mobo drivers and bios (the bios on the web is actually older than the one on the board? - web has v1.1 and the board has v2.0)   ideas???

got it workin with the most recent xp driver from the site... strange

Funny thing is I was able to load Windows XP SP3 on it and it's idling with nothing installed at the moment.

(It wants me to run XP or Ubuntu, that's kinda funny.... :azn:  This mobo has something against Windows 7)
I'm going get a PCI Express Video card tomorrow, install it and see what happens.
If you figure out a setting I'm missing, please let me know.  I'll check back later tonight and tomorrow at work.
    Thanks in advance, Robert

Thanks Svet for the tip.    One stick of ram booted and one did not.  I can't believe I had not tried that yet!!!  I have read that Windows 7 is picky about ram.
I had just purchased the mobo/chip combo, ram, hard drive & blu-ray/dvd from a Fry's B & M in town. It was raining here and the saved money was going to be spent! The price was right for the mobo combo.
I did not check the compatibility of the ram and the mobo which was a mistake.
After purchasing, I noticed on the ram package, that it says "for i5 & i7" and have also read about timing issues with AMD boards and some certain ram sticks.
Corsair's website has this ram listed as the value select line.  Not processor specific but lifetime warranty.  Maybe just a bum stick.
I'm bringing the ram back tonight. (Fifteen day return policy sticker on package.)  Not sure if I should swap for another package or not.  I'm checking to see what they have that could work better.
    Thanks again, Robert

  • Loading Windows 7 x64 on H520s

    Hi all,
I have an H520s, brand new.  I am trying to load Windows 7 x64 on it.  Upon booting from the DVD, I got an error; something about "Secure Boot" in Setup.  So I went in there and disabled Secure Boot.  Now, at least, the PC will boot from the DVD.
However, after the Windows boot DVD "loads files", it goes to the "Starting Windows" screen with the 4-colored flag and just sits there forever.  No progress, and I can't do anything.
    Help!  Thanks!
    Chris
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
Is "the exact same problem" the " cannot load windows on this disk" message?
IIRC you can select advanced options when you get to the disk selection screen.  Delete all existing partitions and exit.  The installer should continue with an MBR install from there.
If that doesn't work, use F10 to launch a command prompt and run DISKPART  (see online diskpart documentation) and do a list disk, select, clean, and convert mbr.  Exit and continue the install.
It's possible that you'll have to restart the installation.

  • K7N2-L cannot load MCP Networking drivers in Win98

My system is new and consists of:
    K7N2-L mobo
    AMD XP 2500 CPU
2 x 512 MB Twin Muskin DDR High Performance Black modules
    All in Wonder ATI 7500
    120 GB WD HD
I think that I have set up my Bios correctly and have installed Win 98 without any problem. All drivers loaded ok from the included CD, except for the nvidia nforce MCP Networking Adapter.
Everytime I reboot my OS recognizes that the onboard networking adapter is present, but I cannot load it.
I don't see that anyone has had this probem in this forum and wondered if perhaps it has anything to do with the MAC Address which is in the default (disabled) mode.
If I should have MAC Address enabled, how do I find out what Mac Address to use?
I would be very appreciative of any suggestions anyone would be kind enough to make.
    TIA
    John  ?(  ?(  ?(

Jef, first thanks for the quick response.
Yes, I'm using win98, not SE, which I had read somewhere else (after I loaded it)would not work.  Since all other drivers loaded properly I was hoping I would be lucky and it would be ok, but I suspected it might be my problem. Thank you for verifying it.
Also, in MSI FAQ it mentioned MAC address was on the ACR slot, but I didn't see it.  Your mirror suggestion was the trick, but I wonder why MSI puts it towards the case side so that it so damn hard to see?
If I read backwards correctly, my MAC address is 0010DCE2D88B on what looks like a bar code sticker. I remember somewhere reading that the MAC was a combination of 12 letters and numbers which would fit this number.  Does this sound right to you?  There is also another sticker, but the writing is so small, I cannot make out what's on it.
Since I'm this far along, and will need to purchase Win98 SE or XP, I will try putting in these numbers and see what happens and let you know (I'm not too hopeful though).
    Again, I appreciate your help.

Yes, you need to have the MAC address enabled.  The MAC address should be on a sticker on the motherboard.  You\'ll likely need a small mirror to read it as it\'s probably located on the side of your last card slot.

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
Apple provides the BootCamp Driver on the Mac OSX install DVD that came with your Mac.
After the installation of Windows insert that DVD while in WIndows and the Driver Setup should start automatically.
If you don't have the OSX DVD anymore you can call Apple and ask for a replacement.
Or you can go into the nearest store and buy a Mac OSX Snow Leopard install DVD for about 30 USD.
XP is supported with BootCamp as long as it a XP SP2 or SP3 32-bit retail or SystemBuilder version and not manufacturer-branded.

  • Using Firefox to access facebook chat Button or online friiend chat button generates a Black screen with CANNOT LOAD IMAGES and no chat window opens.

This does not happen in other browsers and it happens on a variety of computers I have access to and would seem to be a common problem but I can find no identical cases in my searches of

    hi do the following
    1. In Search programs and files (Windows 7) area, type in regedit, and press Enter.
    2. If prompted click yes,
    3.  expand the following HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
    4. click the sid that related to your admin profile (if you not sure, click each sid and in turn look to the right hand side of registry editor it will show who that sid is related to one of the registry files should hae in description localhost\admin or
    something similair)
    5. right click the sid and press delete.
    6. restart your machine and log back on with the admin account, this will then rebuild the admin profile... dont worry when it loads and none of your personal settings are saved or files or folders... go to c:\users
in here you will see two folders for the admin account, one will be just admin and the other most likely admin.localhost
i cant remember which one is which but just check both, one will still have all your files and folders in it.
i suggest making a backup of your data before doing this incase something does go wrong, but ive had this happen many times in a domain enviorment and has worked for me everytime.
