Webcam on 2008 Mac Pro with Bootcamp and Windows 7.  Cannot get it to work.

Have windows 7 Professional on my mac, using Bootcamp
I cannot get any webcam to work.
So far, I have used ....
A Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro for Mac. No app can detect it.
A Logitech C510 Webcam (for PC) No app can detect it.
An Agama V-2025 Webcam (for both Mac & PC and supposedly no additional drivers needed). No app can detect it.
I called Logitech and they said as it was too complicated for them to support, (i.e. Windows on a mac with bootcamp) and so they couldn't help.
Any ideas would be most appreciated.
Thanks.

Use bootcamp. I have been a loyal Adobe guy for 12+ years, but now that I have upgraded to mac...Adobe just sucks. I have not been able to finish a project yet do to the shabby CS4 media encoder.

  • New Mac Pro with Lion and can't install FCP.

I got a new Mac Pro with Lion and can't install FCP that worked fine in SL.  Is it not compatible?  Is it really a PowerPC program???  I'm a videographer and rely on this software and to spend $300 to continue to use it after spending a lot more for this software 4 years ago!  Tell me this is not the case and there is a solution to installing FCP.

How to run FCP 6 (FCS 2) under Lion.
The installer for FCP 6 (FCS 2) is a PPC app. The Programs themselves are Intel. If your trying to install FCP 6 (FCS 2) this work-around will work...
First you need to install Rosetta from your Snow Leopard OS installation disc:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/27987.html
After doing that you can install FCP 6 (FCS 2). Remember, after installing FCP 6 (FCS 2) you need to apply the updates. This has been discuss many times in the Final Cut Studio forum.
If your trying to install FCP version 5.1 (FCS 1) (a PPC app) and below your out of luck....

Try downloading them onto the iPad normally. If you're asked to pay for them, you can't.

Cannot convert webpages to pdf using Acrobat X Pro with IE9 and Windows 7, worked fine until a few months and updates ago

I tried your suggestion, not knowing that the direct pdf printer would also "save as" PDF, but when I try your suggestion and use the Adobe PDF printer that is a direct creation of the PDF from the browser (IE9), instead of the "black out" areas I get when I use the "Convert to" button, I get missing blocks of the resulting PDF, and only get the first 1/4 to 1/3 of the webpage.
Just to clarify, when I said I print the webpage and then scan, that is a work around I have to do if I need a scanned version of the way a webpage appears on a particular date and time, instead of the one step process I used to be able to do when Adobe Acrobat would actually convert the webpage to a pdf without blackout areas or, if I try your suggestion, blank spots with a partial webpage. But the idea was one I had not thought of and I appreciated the thought.
Yes, Acrobat was updated, and is updated, and was working fine until a few months ago, Win 7 and Office 32 bit versions, Office 2010

  • Keeping my 2008 Mac Pro alive (HD and fans?)

Howdy. I have a Mac Pro from 2008 that is currently working great, but I fear the HD and at least one fan is failing. The HD sounds like it's spinning up/down too frequently and once in a while I hear... clicks. I also hear a constant whining sound that increases and decreases with consistency -- the only thing I can think of is that it's one of the ,amy fans starting to go. the computer is nowhere near time to be replaced. So I have a few questions.
    HARD DRIVE:
I want to swap out the hard drive BEFORE it fails. I want to get an SD drive (256GB I think) AND a replacement internal HD for documents (1-2TB).
What should I look for when shopping new egg or other places to make sure I get something compatible with my 2008 Mac Pro?
What's the best process I would use to get everything off my internal drive on to the new drives? I do use use Time Machine to back up to an external drive. I wouldn't mind if I have to first moving everything to the ssd and then selectively move documents off the ssd and on to the new HD. Would I somehow just restore the Time Machine backup to the new ssd drive? How?
Once I have the new drives in place, can I still use Time Mahine to back up both the ssd and the new HD? Or does each one needs its own drive to back up to?
    FANS:
I should probably first determining if my fan hunch if correct. I don't see any fluctuations in fan RPMs using iStat. Is it OK to use my finger or a pencil to stop each of the fans for a few seconds to see if the whining stops? Or will that burn out the motor? If it does wind up being one of the fans, are those easy to find replacements? I'd rather replace that, too, before it fails so that nothing fries in the computer if it does fail.
    Thanks so much!

Nothing you're asking for here is difficult.
I have a 2008 as well and am planning for a SSD in the near future. I rather like the SATA2 units OWC is offering. You can use either SATA 2 or SATA3 and it's possible to upgrade your system to benefit from the SATA3 units that are being offered, but it's quite expensive because you need a bootable SATA3 board (about $1000) so I'll take advantage of the lower cost SATA 2.
So far as the replacement hard drives go, any SATA drive will work, with the best values being the multi-terabyte drives. Drive speed is also a cost issue and if you require very high performance then you want 7200 RPM minimum. But the new "intellient power" models perform very nicely for "normal" usage. Sources I use include Amazon.com, transintl.com, OWC, and NewEgg.
I had a couple of fan failures on my PowerMac G-5s and found good replacements on Amazon for reasonable prices. They're virtually all sold as "PC fans" so you need to make sure they're the correct spec. (It's not hard.)
Stopping a fan momentarily won't harm a healthy one, but use a pencil eraser unless you're a machanic or a masochist...  LOL.
    Good luck

  • Video cards for 2008 Mac Pro with 4 20 inch Cinema Displays

I have an early 2008 Mac Pro Quad Core with 16GB RAM. I run a 4 (20 inch Mac Cinema Display) monitor configuration off of it. one of my video cards just failed. They were never very good at handling FX in FCP anyway. I want to upgrade and get good cards for 2 displays each and if possible, video cards that will facilitate FCP X as well. What should I get?

It is the ROM firmware that makes it work though there is help there too now for PC cards and flashing.

  • Best Router for both a Mac Pro with Leopard and a Dell

I have posted this question in another forum, but maybe this discussion page is the better one for my question, especially in light of all the connectivity problems I'm reading about for people who have upgraded to Leopard -
Can anyone suggest a good router to purchase that would work with no problems for a Mac Pro with Leopard?
Or, the other side of the coin - what routers have you personally had problems with?
I would be connecting to the router via an ethernet cable, but I'm looking specifically for a g and b router. I need to cover my roommate too - she has a Dell and she uses a wireless usb adapter to connect wirelessly. We have a modem (cable or DSL, I think?) and high-speed internet service.
We were previously using a Netgear router, but suddenly it won't work for more than 10-15 min before it loses connection after we reset it. And this happened before I updated to the Leopard.

Apple AirPort Extreme has served my mixed environment very well. You can buy a refurbished one from Apple and save some $.

  • Mac Pro with ATI Radeon HD2600, can't get Vista Aero to work

    Hi from Newbie
I have a Mac Pro with Vista bootcamp installed, ATI Radeon HD2600, 512 mb of video ram, and 8 gb's of RAM, but I can't get Vista Aero mode to work. The driver doesn't specify WDDM, could this be the problem? Can I find a compatible driver elsewhere?
    Thanks in advance.

You need to install drivers from ATI directly.
    http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html
And when upgrading drivers, it helps to use Driver Sweeper and follow some recommended steps:
    http://evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m=396474
(applies to any driver but written with Nvidia in mind)
Of course to get full benefit of RAM, and power of your system, you need 64-bit version.

I just bought a macbook pro 13" with 4gb and would like to get aperture on it.  Will aperture require too much ram for my computer?  Thanks for any support.

    I just bought a macbook pro 13" with 4gb
I have been using Aperture on such a system, and it was o.k. with Snowleopard and moderately sized images. After I upgraded to Lion and started to user larger image files - 30 MB tiffs, I saw the occasional beachball spinning. You should be prepared to quit other applications that will hog the RAM (like Safari), when working with Aperture on Lion or Mt. Lion with only 4 GB. If you can, follow Frank Caggiano's recommendation and upgrade to 8GB. It will make a large difference.

  • Dead 2008 Mac Pro with Soft Raid - Diagnostic Ideas?

I'm starting to run out of ideas how to diagnose and fix my 2008 (March) Mac Pro:  Dual quad-core Xeon, 2.8GHz with a 2TB four-HD soft RAID.
I think it died of a bad or partial or otherwise failed update of Mavericks.  Since Mountain Lion, I think it was, soft RAIDs no longer support Recovery Disk partitions, but I have a Recovery Disk on a USB thumb drive, created on my MacBook Pro running Mavericks.  The MacBook Pro can boot from it, so I'm confident that it was created successfully, but no luck booting from it on the Mac Pro.
Below is what I've tried along with the results I got, pretty much in chronological order.  Any of you have any other ideas?
    Experiment
    Result
    Normal boot from soft RAID
There's frame-buffer-memory garbage (largely quasi-random noise) at the top of the screen.  The grey Apple logo came up offset to the right of the screen, with the spinning thingie below it.  That spinning thingie (I forget what it's officially called) spins for about the right amount of time where it would start drawing the desktop, but instead it freezes up, and then I start seeing flashing orange stripes on the screen.  The disk keeps cranking for a while.
Powering up in target-disk mode, over Firewire
Works normally, and I in fact successfully backed up the RAID that way to a 2TB USB drive, using the MacBook Pro.
Zapped the PRAM, then normal boot from RAID
The only change was that there is less frame-buffer-memory garbage at the top of the screen, and the Apple logo and spinning thingie is now centered again.  Other than that, the failure to boot happens identically.
Boot with option key down and Recover Disk USB thumb drive in the front USB (on the Mac Pro itself;  no USB hubs intervening).
It boots up showing icons for each of the four disks of the RAID, but does not show the recovery disk.  (Doing the same on the MacBook Pro does show the recovery disk, and I am able to boot from it on the MacBook Pro.)
Booting with C, since I gather that that could also tell it to boot from a USB drive.
It did not boot from the USB drive.
Booting with D, to try to get it to run hardware tests.
No effect;  still fails to boot in the usual way.
While connected to the MacBook Pro in Target-disk mode, running Disk Utility looking for disk problems.
No problems found.  I have a Mavericks version of DiskWarrior on order.  Should be here in a day or two.
I haven't tried any network boots, since I don't know of any network drives to boot from, and I'm not sure if it would do any good anyway.
I really doubt if this would work, but one ... conceptual ... way to replace the OS on the RAID might be to connect the RAID, via target-disk mode, and buy (again) Mavericks (or Yosemite?) from the App Store, and then tell it to install it on the RAID rather than the MacBook Pro itself.  The problem with that, I imagine, would be that after loading it onto the RAID, it would presumably perform an installation appropriate to the MacBook Pro rather than appropriate to the Mac Pro.  So, I'm not desperate enough to try that yet...

Just how did you create the recovery disk on the thumb drive? Maybe it is unique to the laptop.
"but I have a Recovery Disk on a USB thumb drive, created on my MacBook Pro running Mavericks."
If y can download the Mavericks installer on your laptop y can make a Mavericks bootable installer with

  • TS3354 Running Win7/64 on Mac Pro with Bootcamp, unable to buy iTunes HD movies

    Hi,
ran into issue with Mac Pro tower connected to dual Apple Cinema 23-inch (final generation) displays. Running Win7/64 SP1 under Bootcamp on second HD; running iTunes latest, and unable to buy HD movie from iTunes store even though have latest Bootcamp drivers and Mountain Lion, and monitors connected via Displayport, Apple HD, and video (ATI Radeon 5700 series).
Is this an issue with iTunes not being able to detect the video card or displays under bootcamp in Windows?
    (SIGH.)
Any suggestion would be helpful. I work during day on my Mac Pro, using Win7/64 most of the time; like to buy stuff on iTunes, like music, etc., and then be able to in living room download to also use with Macbook Pro and a Win7/64 HTPC.
Sorry to see such spotty support for iTunes on Windows 7 these days -- granted it's not their main product line, but still.

Just to clarify I am an advanced user going back to Mac SE/30, and so forth.
If you're not running Bootcamp on Windows, on Mac hardware, this discussion won't be of interest to y'all.
    robgw:
as you may or may not know, it doesn't look like the drivers that Apple installs for Windows with bootcamp provides the full control panel, so under the Windows device info all one sees is this:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Everything works, but there is no Radeon control panel, and no way for Windows to see if its HDCP compliant, even thugh it is.
Sadly Apple doesn't provide a proper "Radeon" control panel for Windows, and I've heard of massive problems installing the defacto ATI Windows driver package on Bootcamp, as it might conflict with Bootcamp's drivers. The ATI site doesn't even have a modern download for Bootcamp ... it's up to Apple to provide.
SO, I guess I was trying to see how one could enable the ability for Windows to "see" the display properties (Apple's drivers recognize it as a cinema display, but that's about it).
iTunes won't allow purchase of the HD version -- it will only allow purchase of the SD version.
Perhaps another person using this kind of set-up might weigh in if they have a chance. Not world ending, just one of the minor annoyances with not having the full dirver control panel on Windows, running on Mac Pro HD.

  • Mac Pro with X1900XT and video corruption

    Hi gentle people
My Mac Pro arrived a few days ago. It's a CTO with a X1900XT and Aperture and some other options (wireless, RAM, HDD).
I'm really excited about the package and the out-of-the-box experience but yesterday I noticed video corruption in Aperture. It looks like a repeating pattern of green and purple dots.
Today, I investigated further and I noticed these things:
-The dots are in the video memory (can be caught in a screenshot), so it's not a problem with the display.
-The dots can stick around everywhere on my screen, not only in Aperture.
-Google Earth and Quicktime both also display video corruption in the same way.
-The TechTool program from the Applecare disk doesn't find a problem. I guess this is because the memory problem is not situated in the frame buffer but somewhere else in the 512MB. For example, on a location where textures (for Google earth and Aperture) are stored.
-Temperature has no influence; the corruption is there even after a cold night and a cold boot (from power off).
-Apart from this, my system seems stable. No crashes yet and I have about 12 hours on the counter.
-Changing resolutions or SMC reset didn't do anything to improve the situation.
My conclusion: my X1900XT has a bad memory chip or is otherwise defective.
Lucky me; I also bought Applecare. I'll be calling them tomorrow to see what they'll do about this.
What is others people experience with this kind of problems?
Will they send me a good X1900XT by mail? Or will I have to bring in my computer? Arghhlll... Such a beauty with a little rough spot
    Kind regards
    Koen
    Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Mac Pro - X1900XT - 4GB - 500GB - AE+BT - 30"CD

    Hi there kolson
That picture you're showing seems awfully familiar. It's the same kind of corruption as I'm seeing. Only I haven't had a single lockup yet.
I've been on the phone with Applecare this evening. It was a friendly guy who helped me through the basic stuff such as:
-Use the other DVI output on the video card
    -Use another monitor
-Log in as a different user
    -Reset PRAM
    -Reset SMC
-Apple hardware test (no problems found)
-Techtool deluxe from the Applecare cd (no problems found)
-He also asked me to boot in safe mode. I was unable to reproduce the problem this time but the machine, particularly graphics, were very slow. Aperture wouldn't even function correctly. I believe that in safe mode, no hardware acceleration is used so the video card is not stressed at all and the CPUs get to do all the drawing which is why the thing was so slow.
The call ended after this but I have a case number and will be calling tomorrow to see what to do next.
I stay with my previous conclusion: there's something wrong with the video card. It's clear that the display is of no importance because I can capture the dots in a screenshot.
Good luck! I'll try to keep this thread updated.
