Webcam on skype.

Hello. Every time i try to turn my camera on - skype call fails. I can talk free while it's off. But as soon as i turn it on, some weird Internet connection problems appear. No matte what i do, nothing changes. I tried to reinstall skype, i tested my camera and it's working. What is happening?

I'm not sure what you mean by weird Internet connections.  Whatever the case you will need to isolate the issue, since the use of Skype itself shouldn't  generally cause any issues other than the consumption of bandwidth.  It shouldn't be so great as to cause any Internet outage unless you don't have a decent amount of bandwidth or stability under load to being with:

  • Webcam and skype

    I just bought a new computer that runs Windows 8.  I had a logitech webcam that was no longer supported so I bought a new one ((C270).  I installed the new webcam but Skype still doesn't let me video chat.  I checked all the skype permissions.  Still no luck.  Do I need to reinstall skype?  Or what?

    Did you check the Options as well?

  • How to use built-in webcam for Skype?

    How does one use the built-in webcam online? My iMac's webcam can be accessed through Photo Booth, but only, it appears, to take photos or brief movies. I've searched this forum, but don't find how one can use the webcam online such as in Skype. A program called iSight is mentioned in several posts, but my year-old iMac doesn't have that program. Any clues on how to use the camera beyond Photo Booth? Many thanks.

    HI Bob,
    You can use Skype with your iMac and iSight.
    Go here, download Skype
    The Skype application will be installed to your Applications folder. Launch Skype. You will need to create a username and password. Once you have logged into Skype from the Menu Bar at the top of your screen click Skype/Preferences and selec the Video tab. Click the pop up menu where you see: Camera and select: Built-in iSight

  • Webcam in skype

    Hi everyone,
    by boss wants me to skype with video. I have an integrated webcam which works with usual software like cheese and so on. I can't get it to work with skype (webcam's led briefly light up - nothing more).
    I tried
    $ LD_PRELOAD=/opt/lib32/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
    skype: error while loading shared libraries: libv4l1.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    or
    $ export LD_PRELOAD=/opt/lib32/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so
    $ skype
    skype: error while loading shared libraries: libv4l1.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    libv4l1.so.0 is in /opt/lib32/usr/lib/
    Thanks for any tips.

    I am new to Arch Linux.  I just did a CTKArch install on my 64-bit machine.  Had similar problems with Skype and my Logitech C500 webcam, but I took a clue from this Fedora thread:  http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthrea … 5&t=217122
    The basic concept is to first install all of the necessary libraries and dependencies for Skype.  Then install the 64-bit Skype "Dynamic" tarball from the Skype website:  http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/get-sky … -download/
    Evidently, the "Dynamic" version "makes use of the existing system libraries" which "will minimize any potential library conflicts."
    Here's how did it.
    First, I purged my existing installation:
    pacman -Rs skype
    Secondly, I reinstalled fresh:
    pacman -S skype
    Third, I removed just Skype (without ever running it), leaving the dependencies and libraries:
    pacman -R skype
    Finally, I downloaded the "Dynamic" Skype tarball and installed it.  Installing the Skype tarball is easy -- just unpack it, and move Skype binary to /usr/bin/ and move everything else to /usr/share/skype/.
    Actually, you don't even have to "install" the unpacked files to test them.  Just cd into the directory of the unpacked tarball and run:
    LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
    Then, test your video.  Of course, this won't work if you have no /usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so.
    By the way, I maintain my Icewm menu and taskbar mostly manually, so I manually created the menu/taskbar entries.  If the above process works for you and if you know how to make a PKGBUILD and use makepkg, you can create a package that will automatically register itself in window managers and desktops that have dynamic menuing systems.
    Edit:  The "Dynamic" and "Static" links on the Skype page are shown close together, but they are actually separate links.  Try the "Dynamic" tarball first.

  • Webcams and Skype with 10.3.9

    Hi all, I searched before posting my question...thanks for any help in advance.
    I have SKYPE and all is workig well-speechwise. Would like to now connect a webcam to see those I call/Skype with, what should I buy so it works with Skype and on my PBook G4 with OS 10.3 (have all updates). The folks I communicate with have a PC not Mac, but I don't think that is a problem via SKYPE (?)
    Thank-you
    Marketa

    You don't need any more software . The iSight instruction book says that to use iSight, you must have the following:
    "A Macintosh computer with a G3 processor at 600 Mz or greater or any G4 or G5 processor.
    Mac OS 10.2.5 or later and iChat AV.
    A .Mac America Online (AOL) or AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) account (only required to use iChat AV outside your local area network).
    A broadband internet connection using a DSL or cable modem.
    You can video conference with other iChat AV users and Windows AIM users.
    You must have iChat AV to be able to use iSight with other applications."
    Presumably the last instruction covers the situation where you want to use iSight with Skype. I first used my iSight camera with iChat (which was already on my iMac computer) and my daughter set up a Windows AIM account. This used to regularly crash after about five minutes, giving us both sound but no picture ( a frequently reported occurrence in the Discussions pages). After we swapped to using Skype, the problems disappeared. I am no expert and got help initially to set up using this Discussion forum. If you need any really expert technical help, I'm sure others will be willing to jump in and give it.
    Good luck !

    Probably the best is an Apple iSight (no longer being made, used ones about $50)

  • Webcam + (Facebook || Skype) = Fail

    The following is what happens when I try to use my webcam in either skype or facebook.
    lsusb output:
    Bus 002 Device 002: ID 046d:08ad Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Communicate STX
    The same thing occurs on my laptop with the same web camera. I'm not entirely sure how to diagnose this, as the webcam still works in the program cheese.

    Use this script
    #!/bin/bash
    SKYPE_BIN_PATH="/usr/bin"
    LIBV4L="/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so"
    LD_PRELOAD=${LIBV4L} skype
    exit 0

  • Webcam for skype, Cheap

    Hi,
    I recently wanted to speak on skype using the webcam.
    i went and bought logitech express plus, and it didn't recognize on skype but it did on ichat.
    I returned it and brought a logitech 5000 and still doesn't work.
    Which one can i have to work with skype (cheap), no built-in microphone needed.
    Thanks in advance

    You're welcome.
    I see 5 webcams in addition to iSight in the linked pages:
    two here, two others here, and one more here.
    Logitec QuickCam® Chat is the cheapest at $29.95 USD.
    As explained on this page,
    Most PC-compatible webcams should work with Skype, however some older models may not work. You should ensure that you always have the latest drivers for your hardware to ensure that the camera will work.
    Try your webcam with some other apps. If your cam works with compatible from this list of Applications You Can Use With iSight, your problem may be your setup or system configuration rather than the webcam itself. In either case, you should be able to get help from one of the variety of sources at Skype Help.

  • Webcam for Skype

    I have a HP Dx2250 Business Desktop PC  running Windows XP. I have downloaded Skype and have purchased a webcam (20 Megapixel With Microphone Skype 220717287117.     The camera works fine but the microphone is not working.  I have done the checks on Skype and have the result that my microphone is working fine but no-one can hear me. When carrying out the Skype test there is no movement of the sound bar.  I did another test on windows and it said my voice could not be detected.  What do I do - I`m no good with computers

    The webcam is now working with vision and sound.    My contact tells me that I am quite faint.    On Skype I have unticked Automatically adjust settings and have moved the blue ball fully to High.      He had to turn his volume up to maximum and I had to move closer to the webcam to enable him to hear me reasonably well.    I think the output settings must be wrong.    Enrico can you help me (if not can anyone guide me)
    What you will need to do is to go to Skype-->Tools--> Options and select automatically adjust mic settings.
     In Windows Control Panel --> sounds adjust the gain of the microphone setttings. You might want to tick Mic Boost.

  • IChat, Skype & Yahoo webcam not working?

    Hello,
    A few days ago I updated my Macbook Pro as it had some small updates to run. Before the updates, my built in webcam and external Microsoft LifeCam both worked with all three applications (iChat, Skype & Yahoo). After the updates, only my built-in webcam would work. Later that day, after me playing around (with no experience) I lost all webcams, built-in and external to all three applications.
    Today, after turning my Macbook Pro on my iChat works with both webcam (don't ask how I got this to happen).
    But...
    Yahoo says "video source - none" to both webcams
    and skype says "no video camera connected"
    Can anyone please provide assistance?
    Thanks
    Ryan

    Ignore the messages about ACLs
