Webcam problem Satellite L505-S5990

Just got the Satellite L505-S5990 and the webcam doesn't seem to be working properly. It is dark and unclear. I adjusted the profile in the settings but still doesn't work. And when take a picture, the flash doesn't go off.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Thanks.
  Nancy

The 640x480 setting, which can be changed by selecting the drop down box to the left of the Settings button on the Photo/Video window of the web cam application, is grainy. However, if you change the setting from 640x480 to a lower setting like 320x240 the image is a little better; still dark, but better. You can also change the video quality on the Settings window to AVI (No Compression) which should produce better quality video when recording, I assume, with the Toshiba Web Cam application. Other applications that use the web cam should have their own settings which could possibly affect the video quality.
The darkness of the default profile is frustrating, enabling "Night Mode" on the Settings - Advanced tab, and using the "User Defined" Profile on the General tab produces pretty decent image quality, all things considered, BUT the trade off is a slow jerky (very blurry motion) video. Playing with the various settings on for the "User Defined" profile may yield some what better quality when using the 640x480 video resolution setting. I've started experimenting with the settings to find something better than the Sunny profile. However, I tend to gain image quality at the expense of image color as I play with the various settings. I wish it was better but for a $530 laptop I'll live with the web cam quality.
By the way if your experiencing low audio (which seems to plague the newer Toshiba Laptops) with the L505-S5990, update the Realtek HD Audio Drivers to the latest version and then enable "Loudness Equalization" under the Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Realtek HD Audio Manager - Sound Effects tab, and the system sounds will be much louder. The DVD/Audio CD audio level are still lower than I'd like and I find I have to use headphones to watch DVD movies. But the audio level is better when the drivers are updated than the stock driver settings when I bought the laptop.

  • Satellite L505-S5990 Problems with CD/DVD drive.

I have a new Satellite L505-S5990 using Windows 7. I have tried to burn a backup disc using my laptop but I keep receiving an error saying that the burner is busy or that I should update the driver. I have already updated the DVD/CD driver to it's latest version. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem?

Go into device manager, uninstall the DVD drive, then reboot the system to have WIndows automatically re-install it.  This often times take care of the problem.

  • Random BSOD when using more than 1 stick of RAM - Toshiba L505-S5990

    Greetings.
A friend's Toshiba Satellite L505-S5990 began having BSODs randomly - during boot, inside Windows, when shutting down etc. It also has problems turning on - I have to repeatedly press the power button. Sometimes these problems would not appear for days or weeks.
It has 2 sticks of Samsung branded RAMs, 1x2gb and 1x1gb - they seem identical except for the capacity (both bearing stickers marked PC2-6400s-666). I think these are the factory installed RAMs though I am not sure.
When I try to use either of the RAM sticks alone, placing either one at different slots, the BSOD problem seems to disappear. ((1)1x1gb on slot a, (2)1x1gb on slot b, (3)1x2gb on slot a, (4)1x2gb on slot b). When I put in both sticks on either slot, bsods appear.
Windows 7's built in Windows Memory Diagnostics found no problems with both sticks. I tested them one at a time. The HDD also gave no signs of problems when tested with chkdsk (/f /r) on another PC.
I reformatted the notebook and reinstalled Windows 7 32 bit using 1 stick of ram (the 1 gb I think). Still crashes when using both sticks.
    Please help. Thanks in advance.
ps I am currently downloading updated bios and drivers to see if installing those would help.

Your specs say that your laptop was configured with 3GB of RAM and it can have a maximum of 8GB.
    Just to add:
I have a similar issue on my old Toshiba for approximately 3 years, it will only run with a maximum of 2GB of ram. Any more and the BSOD or just black screen. This issue was guessed to be some type of power issue by service tech. I purchased a new power supply and battery incase that may be the issue but no fix. Works for what I use it for.

  • Window detected a hard disk Problem on my Satellite L505-S5988

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite L505-S5988 with window 7 Home Premium 09 Service pack 1.  It is 2+ years old and my hard drive is Toshiba MK3263GSX 287GB.  Lately, I got a window warning message as “ Windows detected a hard disk Problem.  Back up your files immediately to prevent information loss, and then contact the computer manufacturer to determine if you need to repair or place the disk…..  The following hard disks are reporting failure:  Disk Name: TOSHIBA MK3263GSX Volume: C:\  “.
Since then, I have imaged my laptop and run malware/spyware softwares, and it looks like my computer is clean.  The laptop device manager said my hard drive is working properly.  However the warning keeps pops up.  I opened Administrative Event Viewer and found the below warning:
“Log Name: System,   Source: Disk,    Event ID: 52.
The driver has detected that device \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 has predicted that it will fail. Immediately back up your data and replace your hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent.”

    D000000000000000000000000
Besides this warning,  there are also other errors and warnings back to years ago, such as AFS failed to load, print service…  Despite all these errors and warnings, my laptop seems to be running OK.  I was not prevented from doing anything that I usually do.
    Questions:
Is there a tool I can run to verify that my hard drive is truly bad?
Can any tool further identify where?
Can it be repaired? Reformat? Or I have to replace with a new one?
What options I have if I have to replace with a new one?
What is average cost of it?
Any help will be highly appreciated.

  • Windows Detected a hard disk problem Toshiba Satellite L505-S5988

It has been about 2 months since I had my new laptop and first I coudnt get the flash cards to work so I finally fixed that and now everytime I start windows an error message comes up and keeps coming up every 10 minutes saying:
Windows detected a hard disk problem
Back up your files immediately to prevent information loss, then contact computer manufacturer to determine if you need to repair or replace the disk.
-> Start the back u process
    -> Ask me again later
    Show details
     Which disk is failing?
The following hard disk are reporting failure:
    Disk Name: Toshiba MK3263GSX
    Volume: C:\
Please tell me how I can fix this because I called Toshiba support and the guy couldnt even figure out the drivers name for flash card.
    Toshiba Satellite L505-S5988
    Thanks

your hard drive is failing. you need to do what it says. back up everything and then either call toshiba to have it replaced under warranty or buy a new one and change it yourself. this is where all of your info and files are saved so if it fails without you backing it up you lose everything.

  • Satellite L505 will not start! Please help me!

My Tobisha Satellite is having a problem booting up. I am using the Satellite L505.
Whenever I try to turn on my computer the boot logo comes up, but then after that a black screen comes up with a symbol up at the top left. It stays on that screen forever, please help me!!!!

Try what drev9 said.    And you can also try repeat tries to get it to boot (hold the power button in ntil it shuts off, then power it back on again.  I once got my L505D to successfully boot but it took 3-4 tries like that.)    Or you can try walking off and just leaving it stwe a while to see if Windows  resolves the issue.   If it prompts you that Windows didn't start right, you can either try start normally or do a restore back to last restore point or whatever that other option is.    If you get the macine running, definitely back up or copy off all of your important data and pictures, before you shut it off again.
Probably what you're going to need to do is a complete Toshiba Restore that reinstalls all software back to factory configuration, and that will erase everything on the hard disk.   It's remarkably easi to do, provided you have a fast and reliable Internet connection to get all the updates installed.
I have an L505D-s6947 and it was purchased in July 2009.     It recently started having problems with starting up Windows, could not complete burning a DVD, lost some files, corrupted my original Admin account, and occasionally  the hard disk was "not available" when file writes were supposed to happen.    Doing a full Restore cleans out all the junk, it fixed my problems, and the machine runs reliable and much faster now, plus has no difficulty burning DVDS.   These computers probably should get wiped and reinstalled once a year, to keep the performance up and Windows running smoothly.

  • Satellite L505-13W shows Blue screen error

My laptop SATELLITE L505-13W Shows blue screen error.
The os gets booted up and after some time it shows a blue screen error and restarts.
On restart it asks for repair, even after succesfull repair it showed the same error.
So i tried to recover using the recovery cd but it proved to be a tragedy.
It eraced my full HDD to stone age and smiled at me saying recovery is not possible.
    please help me.......

    Hi
If the notebook cannot be recovered using the recovery disk, then all this smells like hardware problem.
Are you sure that your recovery disk is OK?
Did you try to install the OS using other installation disk?
Maybe this would be useful to check if the issue might be related to the faulty recovery disk but if the BSOD (blue screen of death) appeared before the OS installation, then I would say the issue might be caused by internal hardware malfunction
It would be necessary to check the RAM modules and the HDD.
HDD can be checked using the HDD diagnostic software like Drive Fitness Test (freeware)
RAM could be checked using a tools like memtest but you need a running systemso in this case you cannot check the RAM using a software I recommend removing one module and testing the notebook using one module in each slot

  • Satellite L505-10K - Unexpected error when using recovery disk creator

    Toshiba Satellite L505-10k
Can't make any recovery disc when I open toshiba recovery media creator, it says: an unexpected error occurred. Close the program and then restart it (error code: 0D00F6-49-00000015) and then I click ok and then it comes again and then I click ok and it comes again and I click ok and then the program comes and when I create the disc it comes to the verification, but then it says: Unable to read the following file. E: \ Boot \ fonts \ chs_boot.ttf (error code: 02015-20-00000000).
I really do need help, I'm afraid something will happen to my computer, so is there anyone who knows something about this kind of problem?
    Thankful for your help.

    Hi
I don't now if that works be cause when I got my computer I tried to create an recovery disc but it says yeah, you know, and I was looking in the folder if the file was there as it says that it could not read but the file isn't there so I don't think that it works to do an recovery from the HDD but I know that I can order an recovery disc from toshiba but I don't know if it works to do an recovery with it du you think so? but if I order an recovery disc do you think that I can get it for my language? I just bought the Sattellite L505-Es5015 system unit a couple of weeks ago.  Being overseas, it has taken me a couple of weeks to set-up and install everything on the computer.  Up until I installed the bios upgrade from Toshiba, the webcam worked fine.  Now, it will only broadcast a picture of a tree.  Not sure what that is from, but what gives?  I got this update notification through the built-in toshiba bulletin board, and now I can't revert to the older bios.  I have windows 7 x64.  I need a solution.
The image you see of the tree is probably due to the "screen cover" being activated. It is set in the Start --> All Programs --> Toshiba -->Toshiba  Camera Application --> Effects --> Screen Cover tab. Ensure the Screen Cover option is set to Off (via the radio button).
The web cam launch program on my L505 series laptop is located under the Start --> All Programs --> Toshiba --> Web Camera Application. If the program doesn't run properly try downloading the latest version for your laptop on the Toshiba download site. Note: on my L505 this application also was initially installed on the left side of the menu (thin gray bar) and would hide itself until I moused over it with the mouse cursor.

  • Satellite L505 Windows 7 start up screen error

I got a problem on my Satellite L505 few weeks ago and it keeps occuring during every start.
Windows starts as usual but instead of loading blue screen where you can choose user and type password i get only black screen with nothing on it.
I cant see anything except for mouse indicator, that works btw.
When I hit ENTER and type my password Windows loads my desktop and everything works fine.
This issue occurs during start up only, once I'm logged in and I want switch between users there is no such problem.
I get blue screen with stupid windows 7 graphics and pictures of all accounts, so there is no problem choosing a user.
Have you guys seen such problem??? Or is there anyone who knows how to solve this issue?
    Thank you for your response.

The login screen is the first point at which the "hi res" video driver kicks in. Use f8 at start-up to see if the "low res" Safe mode gives you a visible login screen and if it does I'd un-install the video drivers and then restart and reload the latest drivers. If that doesn't fix it I don't know what will - the login screen has a background (that can be changed) but also icons, text and an input box and I can't see them all being corrupt.

    regards

    Hello
Im a little bit confused about your posting... At first you talk about motherboard driver and then you ask for webcam driver
I never heard about mother driver, do you mean the chipset driver?
Anyway, as MasterG already wrote you can download all drivers for your notebook on official Toshiba website. Follow the link posted by previous user.

  • Satellite L505 - Wireless connection is slow

    Curlie028,
I'm having the same problem with a brand new Toshiba Satellite L505 - Windows 7 64-bit with the Realtek RTL8191SE Wireless NIC.
    I've tried EVERYTHING.
[http://www.dslreports.com/speedtests/] starts out at about 1480 kbps dowload speed then rapidly drops to less than 300 kbps. LAN cable gives 1480 kbps download speed all the time on my DSL connection. But when I use the Realtek wireless NIC, the speed starts out fast, then tapers quickly to < 300 kbps.
My daughter has a Satellite A500 (not L500) with a different wireless adapter. Sitting side by side anywhere in the house, her laptop, when accessing the same wireless router, always enjoys nearly 1500 kbps as measured by www.dslreports.com/speedtests/ - but not so with my laptop!
I've done all I can to investigate this on my own - much like you - driver updates, BIOS update, turning off all the Norton Internet Security Suite stuff, different browsers, you name it.
I've even tried modifying the "netsh int tcp set global" parameters, running the speedtest repeatededly as I made changes following the steps outlined at this website: [http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=2574]
The only thing left to do is to call Toshiba Support and start riding them relentlessly until something gives.... I don't want to return the laptop. I want them to FIX THE PROBLEM!
    Mike

    Hi buddy,
You wrote that you tried everything like driver update, etc.
But it would be interesting to know which driver you have installed. Please install the latest WLAN driver from the official Toshiba page and not from Realtek directly. All drivers from the Toshiba page are pretested for your notebook.
    Check this!!!
Furthermore it would be interesting to know if you run factory settings or your own Windows installation.
The Norton Internet Security software isnt so fast. I would recommend uninstalling it and choosing another AntiVirus like AntiVir. The Firewall you can use the Windows one.

  • Satellite L505-13W - FN keys not shown and touchpad issue

    Hello everybody,
I have two questions and I will highly appreciate your help.
First, when I got the laptop it used to have a Fn bar that comes down from the top of the screen when I press Fn, it shows all the Fn keys, now it disappeared. I need to get it back, I almost tried everything and nothing is there yet.
Second, the touch pad is not zooming anymore when I apply the 2 fingers in and out, it used to do that before.
    My laptop is Satellite L505-13W
    Thank you in advance

    Hi abdouni,
    1. I think the problem is related to Toshiba Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility. Both tools control the FN keys and the Flash Cards appear if you press FN key.
You can download it on official Toshiba website:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
Regarding the installation: First of all remove both tools and restart the notebook. Now install Value Added Package and restart again. Install Flash Cards Support Utility and make one restart. Now the FN keys should work again.
    2. This could be related to Value Added Package too So check my posting.
If its not work, reinstall the touchpad driver.
