Webcam Randomly Turning Off During Video Calls

During a video call, my video will randomly stop.  I can start it again without problem, but would love to figure out why this is occurring, so that I can stop it from happening.  My video is showing perfectly fine in the Audio/Video settings.
The camera is showing as a FaceTime HD Camera.  I'm on Yosemite 10.10.1 with Skype version 7.0 (653).
Has anybody experienced this before and know how to fix it?

Thank you!  I'm glad I'm not alone.  I've had my pre for about 6 weeks and I love it. So... I bought an INVISI-SHIELD for over $20 at Best Buy.  Then the flickering and blank screens started a few days later. The only difference was the new protective, invisible, EXPENSIVE piece of plastic - so I trim it back to just the face (assuming it was a side sensor glitch) but it still didn't stop it.  So I peeled off the skin tonight and it seems to be fine... for the time being.
A WARNING would've been nice before I spent my money. I want to be reimbursed by Sprint! Thanks community - it was nice to get help from YOU!

You may have a defective proximity sensor but try some basic troubleshooting first...
Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
If still a problem restore with your backup.
If still a problem restore as new, i.e. without your backup. See how it runs with nothing synced to it.
If still a problem, it's likely a hardware issue.

  • Iphone turn off during phone call

Hi, my iPhone 3GS (with iOS 5.0.1) turn off automatically during normal phone calls (i.e. without hands-free talking) after approx. 5 minutes. After a couple of minutes the iPhone come back to the normal "standby" situation, i.e. I can press the home button and unlock the iPhone to do everthing like normal (without any long phone calls). When I am using hands-free talking (like in the car) the iPhone is working as expected without any malfunction.
This effect was shown up at each call (> 5 min.) since the update to iOS 5. By using of iOS 4 the iPhone has worked as expected.
Who knows about this effect and possible solutions to fix it?
    Kind regards, Frank

Connect iPhone to Wall Charger for 10 minutes, it may turn ON itself. If still nothing, keep on charger and Reset, hold both home and power buttons for about 20 seconds until the iPhone begins to respond.

  • During phone calls the screen doent turn off, during phone calls the screen doesn't turn off

The phone screen doesnt turn off when i put it on my ear to make a phonecall

This may very well be an issue with the proximity sensor. Take it to an Apple Store; they'll be able to let you know for sure. But first, to rule out a software issue, try a reset: Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears.

  • My 4S iphone keeps trying to turn off during phone calls and drops the calls.  Sometimes I have to call back 3-4 times to finish a conversation.

While talking on my iphone, the phone tries to turn itself off.  Not just once, but continuous, and not just dropping the call, but actually tries to turn itself off.

Well, then I'm glad this is most probably not a hardware issue - at least not an exceptional, maybe defect of all? -. This seems to be a good idea, because 2G will nearly everywhere available, so phone calls are not likely to drop at all. I'm just a bit confused, because they promised intelligent switch even during calls. For me that means that if the better, faster connection is available, then it uses that, and if it wouldn't be, then it switches to the slower one.
Anyways, thanks for your reply. I guess it's a "just get used to it" issue.

  • Iphone 6 turns off during phone calls

    Hello,
This happens intermittently when making a phone call. Screen goes dark, -cannot bring screen back on and have to shutdown the phone and restart.
Any ideas as to where to start to resolve this?

    KBurd,
If the proximity sensor is covered by a case, your hand, or by being close to your face, the screen should go dark and unresponsive, but the call should not be disconnected.
Is there anything covering the proximity sensor? It is located between the earpiece and the top edge.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Wireless turning off during Video Streaming/Online...

Hey all. I thought I'd ask around here because.. well, everywhere else has been entirely useless for me so far, barring improving my reception.
Basically, I'm currently having an issue where whenever I try to run a game that uses online features, even something as minimal as leaderboards, I lose all of my connectivity to the wireless, and it won't return again until I quit the game, or stop doing whatever is requesting the use of my internet. I also occasionally get this when streaming videos, such as YouTube, but in this instance it's a lot less regular. On top of all of this, my computer seems to be the only thing affected in the house. I've tried doing the same on another laptop, and using things such as my iPod, DS, PSP, and 360 in my room (Which, whilst suffering from poor connection and disconnects still, it doesn't seem to be when doing anything relating to gaming).
I've spent the past week trying out different things that were availible to me to see what the issue could be, and so far I've tried: Moving my computer across the room (It's a desktop, so moving it anywhere is difficult), Trying 3 different wireless adaptors at my house and in another PC at another house (Belkin F5D8010, Belkin F5D8013, and a Sitecom N Wireless USB), changing operating system, changing channels on the hub, and lowering encryption on the hub.
Had a few talks with Belkin, and they're pinning all the blame on the hub, and the fishtank between me and the hub, but I find it weird that the problem would be those, when I only lose connection whilst gaming. Anyone got any ideas? Please?

  • Screen turns black during video call on Xperia Z

Me too....i am using xperia z....any update on this matter.

alexrx - I was not sure what the test is supposed to do.When I clicked on the Proximity Test in the meny I got a black screen that said "Proximity switch ON". It did not change if moving the phone around.
I did not know where the proximity sensor was located - but a little google helped me along. For others who might find this post - it is located in the upper left corner. Having a screen protector covering the sensor I decided to remove that and it seems to work now. So a dirty screen protector seems to have been the root cause of the issue.
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction :-D  (I wish the guy at the Sony support chat had been able to do the same...)

My iphone randomly turned off out of nowhere. I was getting dressed, my phone was working one minute then literally the next it syopped now it wont charge i cant turn it on however the phone is on cause i called it and it rang. What to do? help please. I tried putting it in DFU mode but my lock button doesnt work and my phone wont charge so i cant connect to itunes

There is no reason to put it in DFU mode, a reset should work.  Although, without a working power button it is not possible to reset the device.
Sounds like it is time to replace the damaged device.

  • Webcam controller box popping up during video call...

Hello. I am using Skype to make basic video calls. I have a Logitech HD Pro Webcam C910. The webcam controller box keeps popping up during video calls w/o my doing anything. How can I get this behavior to stop? Thanks.

This a configuration issue with your Logitech software, not with Skype.
    1. Launch the Logitech Webcam Software
    2. Select "Preferences" in the top right-hand corner of the window
    3. Click on the "General" tab
    4. Uncheck "Auto-Launch Webcam Controller"
    5. Click "Save"

  • IPhone Randomly turns off.

My iPhone randomly turns off, mainly after I have been on the phone for 5 minutes or more, but it also turns off whilst playing games and sometimes even when it is just in my pocket doing nothing.
It can be really annoying during important phone calls or when I have been on hold for a few minutes and then just as I get through it cuts off.
It turns back on straight away, but I have to go through everything again.
It has done this since pretty much one month after I got it.
I have reset and I have all the latest updates, the support page doesn't seem to cover this problem.

Assuming that your phone is not jailbroken or hacked in any way, restore the phone in iTunes, first using a backup, and if needed as a new iPhone, without using a backup.  If restoring as new doesn't help, there is a hardware failure and you need evaluation by Apple or whoever provides iPhone service in your country.
