Webcam settings

I'm having a few problems with my webcam, and when I look at Options-->Video Settings-->Webcam Settings, there is a strange third tab all in Chinese (my computer, OS, and skype are all set up in English). See attachment. Anyone come across this before?

That comes from your drivers, not from Skype.  You would have to change out your camera's drivers.  You can always try the generic Microsoft ones (USB Video device) that should remain English.

It is not about payment of $19.95 (Igalsses) or $7.99(webcam settings). This is a very basic setting that should be available in the system settings. The automatic setting of the internal cam does not work great on low lighting as everyone is aware.
i am just amazed how users take in lying down and suggest solutions such as paying for a 3rd party paid app or improving the lighting in your room.

  • Clicking "webcam settings" causes skype to crash

Running windows 8 desktop skype, i'm not using that metro "app" nonsense.
It's fully updated, logitech camera drivers fully updated. Every time I click "Webcam Settings" in Skype > Options > Video Settings, the program immediately stops responding and closes.
I NEED to go into webcam settings, for one it's way, way too dark everytime I restart my computer because the settings reset and I'm back to looking like i'm sitting in the dark. This has been happening for a very long time, my solution was to sign into Windows Live Messenger and using the settings window there (It does NOT crash WLM.... I'm extremely disatisfied with the news that WLM is shutting down in favour of this..) and then calling my coworker on skype.
I've tried re-installing skype, I even got a new hard drive and fresh installed Windows + all my video games to an SSD, I put skype on there as well thinking maybe it would fix my issue but it did not. Same problem.

    Hi,
I'm having the exact same issue -- Skype crashes whenever I click on webcam settings.  The video is very red-shifted, so I want to be able to adjust it.  I wonder if you have any suggestions, but I have different hardware.
I recently bought a Lenovo Y580 laptop, running Windows 8, but I'm using Skype Desktop, *not* Metro.  The laptop comes with a built-in camera.  Device Manager show it as:
    Lenovo Easy Camera
    Manufacturer: Dmax
The driver is, which I updated, is:
    Driver Provider: Realtek
    Driver Date: 9/28/2012
    Driver Version: 6.2.8400.10189
Based on other comments in the forum I went to the Windows Event Viewer after the crashes.  Here's what it says.  RtCamX.dll is part of the driver files:
Faulting application name: Skype.exe, version: 6.1.0.129, time stamp: 0x50ec1757
Faulting module name: RtCamX.dll, version: 1.0.1.118, time stamp: 0x50654128
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x0000c970
    Faulting process id: 0x116c
    Faulting application start time: 0x01cdfd0c6838c372
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\windows\SYSTEM32\RtCamX.dll
    Report Id: aeab946c-68ff-11e2-be7c-20689d7ab340
    Faulting package full name:
    Faulting package-relative application ID:
Any suggestions on getting this to work would be greatly appreciated.  By the way, I have a Logitech C510 webcam from my desktop that works just fine with Skype on the laptop, but it would be nice to be able to use the built-in camera and adjust it.
    Thanks.

  • Edit webcam settings S510p

    Hi everyone!
First post here.  Just got the Ideapad S510p.
I was using the webcam and noticed that the colors are somewhat darker and gives a kind of "tanned" look to my face. I know this isn't the natural color as I've worked with and used many webcams on many computers, laptops, netbooks over the years.  I was just wondering how I can edit the settings on the webcam to adjust brightness/contrast/hue/saturation etc?
I can't seem to find any such software included in the laptop.  Do I need to download an additional software in order to access and adjust the webcam settings?  Thanks.

    hi joe23,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
The webcam is provided without a Software for communicating.
Settings like color saturation and hue/ brightness should be housed by the software you're using.

  • Satellite L - How to adjust webcam settings?

    Howdy,
How can I adjust the settings in my web cam to take a delayed picture?
    Thanks

    Hi
You can do this in webcam tool. There you can change all settings for your webcam.
Furthermore I founded some interesting links:

  • Webcam Settings [SOLVED]

    Hi,
I have been using the integrated webcam on my laptop without any problems with Skype (bin32-skype installed from aur on x64 Arch). However the image is very dark (looks better on windows). I can't seem to figure out a way to increase the brightness and gamma settings. Best way to do this?
    Regards.

I have a custom built MSI.
    @oGRE2080
I added this to the .xinitrc
    [export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so]
see if it works. I am no completely sure how to help you.
    @JackH79
I went through the post. I am not sure if i interpreted this right. I made a gspca.conf in /etc/modprobe.d
    with the following:
    options gspca autoexpo=0
    gamma 4
no change on the video - still dark. Correct me if I am wrong. Also the post gives syntax accoridng to driver name. I just used gspca. Am I using the right driver name / how do i find the correct driver name?
    thanks for the replies.

    Hi shahchin,
I think you should check this Toshiba document:
[How to change the settings for the integrated webcam if the image is very dark or black |http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=59]
Furthermore the microphone is located on near the microphone because its a part of the webcam.
Regarding the picture quality of webcam you could also try reinstalling the webcam driver from Toshiba website.

  • Creative Webcam Vista, Windows 98, Msn 7.0 and windows protection error

Hi I wondered if you could help me.
Im running Windows 98 and have a creative webcam installed. i connect it and it works fine in creative webcam monitor. but when in msn messenger 7.0 i click tools-----> webcam settings the computer then freezes up then after a few minutes the screen goes black with "Windows Protection Error Please Restart Your Computer" comes up.
    I'm also running
    McAfee Internet Security 7
    Spybot
    Ad-aware
    Spywareguard
    A-squared
    Spywareblaster
Ive also tried running defrag and scandisk to no avail.
    Thanks.

Can you stop the service manually? I would suggest stopping the service, setting it Manual or Disabled, rebooting, and then run the uninstaller again. Hopefully you won't have to resort to uninstalling the service manually.

  • Built-in Webcam not Recognized by Laptop

My built-in webcam on my Satellite A305-S6905 is not recognized by my laptop!!!
I click on Camera Assitant Software to boot up the cam and get no where.
The error message reads: Webcam is either disabled or failed. Please check your webcam settings.
I have no clue where the webcam settings might be. I have downloaded the driver 2x from the Toshiba recommended downloads: Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility for Windows Vista (32/64bit) / XP(v8.7.0.1007; 04-13-201... I get a message that the download was successful. Then, I check the list of devices in the Device Manager. The Chicony USB 2.0 Camera software is nowhere to be found. I cannot select it to Update the software. I have restarted my computer 2x. No help.
Does anyone have any suggestions?   My daughter is leaving for Hong Kong and Vietman and I would like to track her journey using Skype. Thanks, NC

Thank you for the help Jerry, but I already tried that download. After downloading, I recved the following message: “The setup has detected that version (1.07..) of Camera Assistant Software for Toshiba is already installed. This setup installs an earlier version of Cam Asst. Soft for Toshba. You will need to uninstall the previous version (17.193.0508L) before installing this version.”
I have not tried to find the earlier Cam Asst Soft for Toshba version to uninstall yet. Should I find the earlier version, uninstall and download this earlier version?

  • Choosing different webcam in Lion's Flash Preferences (workaround?)

I am aware of the bug the prevents clicking in the Flash Settings in OSX Lion. There is a workaround using the Flash Preferences and Allowing for a specific site, but this does not solve my issue:
I need to select a different camera (or mic) in the Flash Settings. The webcam/mic settings are already set to "Allow" on the site but the wrong webcam is selected so nothing appears. I can use the tab button and space bar to select different aspects of the Flash Settings, but I don't know how to force the drop down menu on the webcam settings to select a different webcam (I can highlight it with a few tabs).
The Flash Preferences under Mac System Preferences allows me to select which sites allow the webcam, but not which webcam to use. And I can select the Global Settings window on the Adobe website but not a Camera Settings window.
How can I select a different webcam?

That helps a lot Tom. But thanks for your intelligent input, I am sure it has helped the OP out with their query. You seem to be very bitter towards Apple and yet continue to post your negativity everywhere in these forums, usually with little relevance to the questions asked and the issues raised. But if it reassures you about your inability to keep up with technology then we are all happy for you.
Now back to the OP. The workarounds spoken about include

  • No Webcam software on my All-In-One

Hi I purchased a customizable all-in-one machine a couple of years back. The model # is HP Omni 200 5480 quad. It has a webcam built into the monitor. However, there is no webcam software to adjust the brightness, contrast, and so on. When I called HP, they told me it was because the machine was custom built. I'm not sure I understand the reasoning there but I need to download the appropriate software so I can adjust my webcam settings. Please send me the link to download the software.
    Thank you!

    Hi,
Since it's a CTO machine, very hard to know which one is on your machine. Please try the following software:
       ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45501-46000/sp45692.exe
    Good luck.

  • Satellite L650-12P - Black and white colours on webcam

hello people i have a quick question about my laptop which is a Satellite L650-12P.
When I bought it, I am sure the webcam had colour but now it has turned black and white. I have tried various settings but cannot get the colour back. Why has this happened and what can I do?
    Someone please help.

    Hello
Usually the webcam shows more colours as just white and black.
I think its just something wrong with webcam settings. You should check this article from Toshiba about different webcam settings:

  • Webcam NX went black

I had creative webcam nx and it worked fine before. However it went black after I installed TV turner card into my comp. Any helps would be appreciated.
    Thanks

What kind of IM software do you use? The most probable reason could be the TV capture card set itself as the default capture device (pior to the installation, your webcam could be the one and only video capture device).
Try searching within your IM software for webcam settings and select Webcam NX as the default device.
