Webcam works in options, but is crossed out for ca...

This is for my wife's 32 bit Ubuntu laptop.  Both it and Skype are up to date as of right now.
I just got a Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 for her.  I plugged it in and Cheese recognized it immediately, but wouldn't show up in Skype Video Options.
I edited the Skype file as recommended in the threads here and the camera showed up in Skype Video Options.
But when I make a call the camera icon in Skype is still crossed out.  The person I'm calling doesn't currently have a camera, but if the camera icon weren't crossed out they should be able to see my camera, right.
Hey Skype!  This is way too much trouble!

Having similar issue; webcam is recognized and functions under "Options" but have no "Video Call" button to make a video call. Skype only displays txt and voice call buttons. Contacts are online and have video. Contacts see me as online and with video, and can even "Video Call" me but cannot see me; I see and hear them fine, but they cannot see me.
Problem experienced on an HP Compaq Pasario running Ubuntu 10.04.1, 12.04.1, and finally Mint 14.1 (both cinnamon and mate) with all software packages updated and current. Spent the entire day yesterday going through fresh installs and setup trying each separately with the same result every time; webcam is recognized and functions under "Options" but have no "Video Call" button to make a video call.
Camera being used is a Logitech c270h which works great with Skype on two other PCs (Dell Laptop, Dell Tower) one running Ubuntu 10.04.1 and 12.04.1 (both LTS).
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

  • Canon MP780 Color Option, Quality and Media, etc crossed out for SOME apps

    Hi,
I have a Canon MP 780 attached to an old G4 macbook (running 10.4.11) that I'm using as a print server via printer sharing. I'm sending print jobs from a MBPro 2.4 GHz Core Duo running Snow Leopard (10.6.2)
Before I updated to Snow Leopard, all the MP 780 printer functions worked perfectly. Now the Color Options, Quality and Media, Duplex Printing, Special Effects, Borderless Printing and Duplex Printing are crossed out for some application, but not for others. For example, I can print in Duplex from Microsoft Word and Pages, but not from Preview or Safari.
If I do the print job directly from the old MB that's acting as the print server, all the options are available, so this seems to be related to either Snow Leopard or printer sharing.
I have downloaded and installed all the latest drives/software I could find in the CanonUSA website.
Any thoughts on how to get these print services up and running for all my applications?
    Thanks!
    Pete

    Hello Pete,
What you are seeing is a result of using a 32bit driver when using a 64bit application. Preview and Safari are 64bit, while MS Word and Pages are 32bit.
The solution is to use a driver that is written for 64bit (or more so the plugins used with the driver, such as Quality & Media, are 64bit). However, checking the Canon web site, there does not appear to be a 64bit driver available for your model.
So, you could look at forcing the 64bit apps, like Preview and Safari, to open in 32bit mode. With the application closed, find its icon in Finder > Application. Select it and perform a Get Info (File > Get Info or Command I). The Info window that appears will have a button that shows 'Open in 32-bit mode'. Tick this checkbox, close the Info window and then open the application. Now you should find that the Canon plugins such as Quality & Media should be available without the line through them.

  • Logitech webcam works in everything but ffmpeg

    It's a Logitech QuickCam Express
    $ lsusb
Bus 005 Device 002: ID 046d:0870 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Express
and it works fine in cheese and vlc, but with ffmpeg, I get:
    $ ffmpeg -f video4linux2 -i /dev/video1 test.avi
    [video4linux2 @ 0x96513a0] Cannot find a proper format for codec_id 0, pix_fmt -1.
    /dev/video1: Input/output error
I've tried pretty much every permutation of ffmpeg options that I can think of, to no avail.
Clearly the webcam works, as I can see it in vlc/cheese just fine...any idea how I can get ffmpeg to play nice with it?
    OR:
Is there a good command-line alternative to ffmpeg which can record both video and audio? Surprisingly, I haven't really found a CLI program that can simply capture from webcam+microphone and save to a file.
Thanks! And let me know if you need any more info/diagnostic output, etc.

  • Mac mini webcam works on facetime but not oovoo

I am using a Rocketfish hd webcam and it is working on facetime but not on oovoo. Can someone provide a solution?

    P.S.
If the third-party support info and help does not get it working for you, you can also use OS X Mavericks recovery or reinstall to repair your startup disk or reinstall OS X 10.9.
    Also Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
(Over time, Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD."  Regardless of the name of your Mac's built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)

  • PC webcam works on Mac, but not on Toshiba P35...?

I recently got the Logitech Quickcam Communicate Deluxe webcam, which is made to work with Windows XP & Vista computers. Without installing a thing, I plugged it in to my Mac (running Tiger 10.4.11) — and it works flawlessly (the camera is Video Class [UVC] compliant, which works with built-in drivers on this Mac). However, this camera is specifically made to run with Windows, not Mac, so I was very surprised to have horrible results on the Toshiba laptop.
We've spent days trying to get acceptable results, but the video is extremely slow and choppy on the Toshiba. I've talked with Logitech, and the Toshiba exceeds all of it's requirements to run the camera — they are stumped, and suggested we contact you for help.
    Here's the rundown:
    Toshiba Satellite (P35-S629)
    Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.33GHz
    1.00GB of RAM
    Windows XP
    Home Edition
    Service Pack 3
    (all Windows updates are up-to-date)
    What we've tried:
    • Installing the latest, updated Logitech Drivers and Software, doing a"Clean Boot" so as not to conflict with any other software
    • Uninstalling the Logitech Software
    • Uninstalling the Logitech Drivers and using the pre-installed Drivers on the Toshiba
I've checked the CPU usage, nothing running except the minimum, maybe 1 or 2%.
The Toshiba has three Enanced USB 2 ports — it makes no difference if the camera is the only USB device connected.
I've run the camera with the Logitech Software, and without it, directly in Skype — the results are the same, a frame every few seconds. Changing the Exposure rate (in Logitech's Software, and/or in Skype's) has no discernable effect.
Is there any other setting on the Toshiba I can try to adjust, or a driver that might work better than either the Windows drivers (or the Logitech Drivers)? Logitech tells us that because the camera works flawlessly, with no choppyness whatsoever, on the Mac, that this is a problem with the laptop. Any suggestions on what we could try would be hugely appreciated!
    Thanks so much,
    Jenrou

Well ... I tried a powered usb hub — made sure to get a hi-speed AC powered usb 2.0 one (480Mbps transfer rate, 500 mA each port) — but it made no difference. I also tried a few other things, and maybe (?) the answer is in what I found out.
    1. Under My Computer>Scanners and Cameras I can open if I use the xp installed drivers, but not with the Logitech drivers installed. Using the xp drivers, when I open I get a little video screen, and (ah ha!) it runs smoothly, no delayed choppy-ness, but (ah crud!) it has constant interference in the picture: the video blips with Red, Blue, Green and Blk/Wht images lasting a fraction of a second. But it does move smoothly, as if live.
    2. Tried another video program, to see if this might work runing something else, so I downloaded a basic video capture program (Debut Video Recording) and ran that (btw it would not run with the Logitech drivers, only with the xp drivers). It also ran smooth video, and without the blips flashing across it; but this program also produces a low res image — a jaggy, pixilated one. But ... it does react, again, smoothly as if live.
Skype, Quikcam Software, and Sightspeed all still run video very slow and choppy.
So now I'm back to wondering if this is a hardware issue. Is it a deficiency with the Satellite P35 to process or render webcam video? For what it's worth, the laptop can play video off the internet, or dvd movies just fine. the camera runs fine, but 1. and 2. above make me wonder if the laptop can't process a decent live camera feed? And if it is a hardware issue, is there any upgrade option or solutions?
(note: Toshiba's description calls the P35-S629 "the ultimate gaming machine, loaded with the latest in everything, including a 17" WXGA display w/TruBrite for the best in graphics.      I'd really like to solve this, and feel like a reason for the crappy results must be close to an explanation after all this. I have to believe that this pc camera should work on the Toshiba laptop.

  • Webcam works in JMStudio but not in JMF apps (Linux)

    Hi everybody,
I have successfully installed the Linux drivers (it's a Logitech Quickcam Express), and registered the webcam with jmfregistry. It works perfectly in jmstudio, both if selecting the "capture" menu or just opening an url as "v4l://0".
However, I cannot succeed in creating a datasource for this camera in my application. I can get the MediaLocator of the device, its list of formats, but when calling to Manager.createDataSource(), a "NoDataSourceException" is thrown.
    Any hint, please?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

    Hi again,
I have also tested the JMF code samples, e.g. VideoTransmit, and I get the same problem.
It seems that only jmstudio is capable of using the camera!!!
    Help, please!

If restoring as new (without using a backup) doesn't help, there is a hardware problem.  Take it to Apple or whoever provides iPhone warranty service in your country.

I have one of the most recent MacBooks. All of a sudden Photo Booth isn't working. There's a crossed out camera icon and I can't take pictures. How do I get it back?

First thing to do is reset PRAM
    ■ Shut down your computer. Turn the computer back on and immediately hold down Command-Option-P-R, continuing to press until you hear the startup sound for the second time. This resets the computer’s parameter random-access memory (PRAM).
IMPORTANT: Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.

As an overworked professional, I simply have to consider the very viable options out there. Never thought I'd be seriously considering a Cubase product.
It's a Steinberg product, not a Cubase product.. in case you haven't been paying attention Steinberg developed the virtual instrument for use in it's programs way back in Cubase 3.55.. the plethora of virtual instruments and the advent of low-latency drivers can be directly traced to Steinberg/Cubase development.. Logic also borrowed Cubase's arrange page format back in the 1980's. Cubase has borrowed from Logic to be sure but Steinberg has long been an innovator for many of the things we take for granted today. It was Logic/Emagic who licensed the VST technology and ASIO low latency format to use in Logic 4.xx. It was Apple who adapted VST to it's own AU format. Also, Cubase and Nuendo have undergone a lot more innovation over the past three years, Yamaha has been good as a parent company. Cubase is not Nuendo's little brother by the way, they are very close, same exact audio engine, same robustness, they can exchange files, the only difference being Cubase doesn't have some of the high end post features that Nuendo has. I use both Cubase and Logic and occasionally Nuendo at the University here.. I know both programs fairly well, believe me, both Cubase 6 and 7 can hold their own with any DAW out there, they just don't come with a bunch of ready made loops and preset instruments.
LogicX will never be able to use 32-bit instruments without a third party solution, nor will it ever include the Bridge. At least according to the people I know.

I am not able to access to iphone updates/store; it displays the message under diagnostics 'secure link to itunes store failed'.
I tried to turn firewall off, reinstall itunes and other troubleshoot options but none of them works......
    Please help.

Update:  I tried the "Toshiba Recovery Wizard" after everything else either fizzled out or hung up. After going all the way thru the recovery process (up to 100%), I finally got an error message.....it didn't work. And now, when I fire up the computer, I don't even get to that menu with the recovery options....the only thing I can boot into is the screens with the various ways to run your OS (in "safe mode", "safe mode with networking", etc).
I'm not a techie, but I'm guessing at this point, the part of my hard drive that got damaged in the fall was, at the very least, the partition with the recovery data. Couple that with the fact that this cheapo Toshiba laptop didn't even come with recovery disk (or ANY kind of disk, even basic installation software!), I'm screwed: I don't see any way to get a workable computer now without some kind of disk to boot from. So NOW my concern is more about spending the $$ for a new OS and THEN finding out the hard drive has other problems too...is broken in some other way to boot.
How to check this? As I said, I did run "chkdsk" back when I could get into the recovery menu and run the fix-it programs. It didn't note any problems. Thinking of taking this opportunity to upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista (which I never liked), but I have to know that the computer is otherwise ok....how to be sure?

  • In DCOMCnfg "Run application on this computer" is grayed out for my application on two Windows 7 machines, but it works fine on all other machines

We have a COM application that is installed on hundreds of machines around the country.  We have instructions included in our install doc of how to set up DCOMCnfg.  On one machine in the field and one machine in our lab (both happen to be Windows 7 machines) the checkbox "Run application on this computer" on the location tab in DCOMCnfg is grayed out and therefore we cannot access our engine remotely.
I turned off UAC before installing  (we found that the install works much better than way)  and it is actually still off.  I do not get any DCOM errors in the Windows Event logs when I try to access via DCOM, I just get the standard -2147023174 Server Error.  I have added CallFailureLoggingLevel to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\OLE and set it to 1 to enable logging, but still no errors in the event logs.
I pulled a DCOMTest utility off of the Microsoft site.  Initially it failed, but there were entries in the event logs indicating that it did not have the permissions it needed.  I opened up those permissions and now that test utility works fine.  So, DCOM is functioning between the two computers.
This application is used with DCOM by hundreds of people, so I know the application should be working properly.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled to verify that everything is registered properly.  I have tried turning off the firewall and the anti-virus.  I am logged in as an administrator
I am at a loss.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi,
This issue can occur if the current user profile does not have enough permission or related system file is corrupted. Please try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.
    1. Assure the current user account has administrator permission. If not, please add it to Administrators Group and then test the issue again.
    2. Restart the machine in Safe Mode and logon to the machine with the account: administrator. Then, please check whether the option is grayed out.
    3. If the option is still grayed out, please try this step.
    a. Open C:\Windows\System32 folder and change the ownership of the ComUID.dll file from "trusted installer" to administrators group.
    b. Rename that file as ComUID.dll.org
    c. Copy the attached ComUID.dl_ file from the Windows 7 installation disk to C:\Windows\System32 folder and rename it to ComUID.dll
    Thanks,
    Novak

  • Windows 8.1 64bit. Webcam works with "Camera" app but not with Skype.

I've spent a few hours googling and trying out various things - all listed below. I give up - any ideas??? OS: Windows 8.1 64bitMemory: 32GBWebCam: Microsoft VX-7000. As per subject - the webcam works with the "Camera" app but not with Skype for desktop or for Modern UI (or the Microsoft Lifecam software for that matter).  Already attempted: 1) Uninstall webcam drivers - download latest from microsoft (Windows 7) and install in Windows 7 compatibility mode.2) Close (from taskmgr) anything that looks like it might use Webcam. 3) Run Skype for Desktop in Windows 7 and 8 compatibility modes None of the above work. In Skype for Modern UI the webcam doesn't appear in the drop down in Settings - so I can't even select it. In Skype for desktops (version 6.11.32.102) the webcam is found but instead of image I get "Can't start video. Try closing other programs that might be using your webcam". I see from a bit of googling that various people seem to have the same issue (i.e. Webcam works with Camera app but not Skype) - so I'm hopeful someone has found a workaround / fix to this issue and I've just not had the googling skills to find it  Thanks, - Matt Symes

OK - I appear to have resolved the issue.  I restricted my google terms to [vx-7000 site:microsoft.com "windows 8.1"] Which uncovered this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933311 I noticed there were a couple of Windows 7 x64 specific registry settings that were mentioned so I checked these and they weren't as per the article. In fact - one of the Registry Keys was already used by other software "AI Charger+" which is some ValueAdd software that came with my motherboard. I uninstalled AI Charger+, uninstalled LifeCam driver. Reinstalled LifeCam driver in Windows 7 compatibility mode. Still not working. I returned to the registry and noticed the settings still differed from the above article. I corrected them (which involved not just amending Data but having to add new Values). I then disabled and reenabled the LifeCam from dvcmgmt.msc I was then able to get video from the webcam in the Skype for Desktop preview screen.

Help!!  I'm in Belize (not a good place to be with an Apple, as international as you may claim to be!) and my computer decided to "quit" thusly:
White screen with a crossed out circle which flickers to the Apple logo sometimes, but won't open. What can I do to open it? (I do have my recently backed up data with me, but no loading discs for my computer.
    Hoping there is a solution,
    Diana

The make of the disk doesn't really tell us how your data is being backed up onto that disk. Do you know what software it uses?
For example Time Machine copies files every hour in a way that is not bootable, but you can extract those files & get all your data back into a working OS.
Carbon Copy Cloner duplicates a disk in a way that is bootable - it would appear when holding alt at startup so you could use that to boot & inspect the state of the internal disk.
It may also be Seagate's own software that does something different.
Please try recovery mode, if that works you can try repairing the disk in Disk Utility.
OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support
If that works, select Disk Utility & see if the internal disk can be repaired in the first aid tab.
Recovery mode can also download OS X & reinstall it, however you really need to know if the backup contains everything before that is attempted, otherwise you may lose data. The OS is also around 5GB so you may have issues if your internet is capped or unstable etc.
    P.S.
I have no idea if this is helpful, but there may be help out there…?
