WebCenter PS3 VM on Windows XP.

Hello -
I am trying to install and configure the Pre-built Virtual Machine for Oracle WebCenter Portal Framework 11gR1 (11.1.1.4.0) located here..

I am using windows XP and I can correctly start the VM. However, when I try to run the vmctl command to start the services the VM freezes and I cannot recover; I believe it stalls during the startup of weblogic. I am running on a xp machine with 3 gig and have over 2 gig allocated to the VM.
Any help appreciated.

Edited by: 848016 on Mar 28, 2011 10:33 AMThe 'freezing' problem is something between VirtualBox and Windows - I've usually seen the problem when I don't have quite enough RAM to run the VM. If you note the requirements listed:
At least 3GB of RAM (recommended 6GB)
At least 30GB of free disk space (Note: virtualization works best with contiguous space so if using Windows as the host operating system, it is a good idea to run a defragmenting program, and make sure you are using NTFS for your file system to handle large files)
2GHz processor
... I interpret that to mean "3 GB of RAM for the VM", not total for the machine. Running an Oracle Fusion Middleware stack in general tends to be pretty memory intensive - I haven't had much success running a VM with the database, Weblogic, etc. with much less than 4 GB.
So in short, my advice is to find a good online price for additional RAM - the more the merrier.

In EM I see WC_Spaces server down. when i restart it gives me following error ............ inspite of my database is UP and running any idea ?

There isn't realy a 64 bit version but you can use the 32 bit version.
I also have a laptop with windows 7 64 bit and i have installed webcenter and weblogic without any problems.

Oracle Enterprise Content Management Suite 11g does not support running Oracle UCM, Oracle IBR, or Oracle URM as a service on a Windows operating systemUCM is certified to run on Windows, Perhaps the Managed Server for UCM cannot be configured as a windows service. I'm not exactly sure about that one. Here's the general certification information:

This shows that Windows Server 2003 SP2/R2+ & Windows Server 2008 SP1 & Windows Server 2008 R2. So any of those and you should be fine (i'd try to stick to linux though :) )
Can you please explain the implication of this on running UCM with WC? Does this mean UCM cannot be used? or does this mean UCM must be installed as a seperate >component? UCM is a content management system. WCPortal is a portal framework. If you want to integrate CMS features into WCPortal, they you'll need to have the appropriate back-end system in place. Eventually, it'll be easier to plug in 'any' CMS, but Oracle's is the best-practice and most supported solution.
UCM is a separate component, & more specifically, a separate Managed Server. You should also consider installing IBR as another Managed Server. This is according to the WCPortal docs.
Or does this mean I can still use UCM as a content repository even though it is not supported as a service by ECM? Thank you!UCM will be a fully functioning content repo if used with WCPortal. It will depend on your license as to exactly what you can do with that instance of UCM. I believe limited use licesenses given with WCPortal say that the UCM instance is expected to be used through the WCPortal and not standalone. You should talk to your account rep for specific details.
You don't need a UCM instance solely for WCPortal, but it's probably best practice to have it be that way in production.

Compatibility issues between PS3.0 and Windows Vista

Have PS3 for Windows XP. Have had it a while and it wouldn't load on my old computer because the harddrive didn't have enough space. Now trying to load it on to HP Pavilion bought last spring. When I tried to load it, I got the error window with: compatibility issues with this software. Windows didn't find a solution. Went to adobe.com and tried update for PS3.0 which I thought should work. it said 3.0.1. Won't work. What am I missing? Am I missing anything? Will Adobe work as I want it to work? As it's supposed to work?

Well, it's not "supposed" to work in Vista. The earliest version of Elements that officially works in Vista is 5, with the special patch. However, some people have had success running earlier versions in XP compatibility mode.

The high level requirement is to pass the language in URL so that customer can drive business through analytics. We append language parameter in URL(language=en) but the actual requirement is URL should be crawlable so that search engines will be able to distinguish.
Any suggestions on how this can be taken forward?
We are currently in the PS3 version of web-center.

1) For search engine to crawl your pages you have to use goLink because commandlinks are not search friendly.
2) You can use navigationModel.defaultNavigationModel.node['your_page_id'],goLinkPrettyURL , This is just a sample
point here is to use the goLinkPrettyURL which will help you maintain the state of the application by adding adf-ctrlstate ,
So the URL will look like
http://host:port/contextRoot/pageId?adf-crtlstate=somevalue
Now as your business requirement is to append the language=en to the URL, You can use a Managedbean in BackingbeanScope.
To append the language to the URL
Eg : ConvertURL[navigationModel.defaultNavigationModel.node['your_page_id'],goLinkPrettyURL]
Now in the backing bean you will get the URL http://host:port/contextRoot/pageId?adf-crtlstate=somevalue
just append Language =EN then you are good to go.
Use goLink acroos your application including navigationModel

WebCenter PS3 VM AviTrustSamplePortal(V2.0) does not startup.

Hello Experts -
I am trying to configure the new PS3 VM but running into one final problem. I cannot start the AviTrustSamplePortal(V2.0) applicaiton. When I try and start the appliation i recieve the following error.
Substituted for the exception oracle.mds.persistence.MDSIOException which lacks a String contructor, original message - MDS-01376: Unable to get database connection from data source "mds-CustomPortalDS" configured with JNDI name "jdbc/mds/CustomPortalDS". MDS-00001: exception in Metadata Services layer weblogic.common.resourcepool.ResourceDeadException: 0:weblogic.common.ResourceException: Could not create pool connection. The DBMS driver exception was: IO Error: Socket read timed out
I followed the directions, not sure what is wrong.

I believe the problem is related to connecting to the DB. When I try to test any of the data sources within weblogic they time out. Additionally, when I tnsping localhost.localdomain it failes to resolve the host name... Any ideas why the preconfigured VM would have problems connecting to the Oracle DB?

Webcenter PS3 pre-build virtual machine question

Experts,
I have following queries regarding VM for web center
1) What are the limitation of using pre-build virtual machine for development/testing environment compared to standard installation?
2) What are the webcenter features not supported by pre-build WC VM but is supported in standard installation?
I am thinking of using pre-build WC VM for development and testing environment. So, want to know the limitation before using it.
Appreciate any help on this.

P.S - Standard installation is installing DB (using RCU), weblogic & webcenter suite.

The pre build is very good for demonstration purpose. You can do some development on it but i don't think this is recommended.
The pre build machine is just a plain installation with a DB, weblogic and webcenter suite. If you create your own VM with the same software, than there is not much difference between the pre build machine.
If you don't plan on using a real server for your development purpose than you can use the pre build machine. I don't know if it is allowed so maybe you should check this with Oracle. There isn't a real difference between an installation that you will do an the pre build machine to technicaly, you could use it... Licence wise... you should check it with Oracle.

Webcenter interaction installation on windows

The installer(10.3 installer) is not giving the option to select apache webserver and java on windows.
Do we have to pass some special flags ?

when you try to install 10g on Windows 7 Ultimate (checked on Ultimate) after getting the error the installer will ask you to choose "reinstalli using recommended settings".
select that option and oracle will be installed without any errors.

Not able to view the custom taskflows in Oracle Webcenter 11g PS3 catalogue

I have created one custom taskflow and followed the below steps to view custom task flow in webcenter ps3 catalogue (i.e. make task flow available under Mash-Ups\task flow at run time)
1)right click custom task flow and added to project.
2)rigth click custom task flow and add to catalog.
3)grant resources to that custom task flow.
Any idea if there is any missing step to makes a custom task flow availbale webcenter ps3 catalogue ((i.e. make custom task flow available under Mash-Ups\task flow at run time)

Your taskflow will never be available in the mash ups. These are only for the runtime created taskflow.
In Jdeveloper, open the default-catalog or whatever catalog you are using. It is located in the webcenter/portalapp/catalogs folder
Do you find your taskflow there? If not, press the plus sign to add a resource and select Link.
As type select taskflow and press the browse button next to the URL to select your taskflow. Save, and run the portal again.
Maybe you can post the source of the catalog.

WebCenter 11g Ps3 Tutorial: need your input

I am starting a little new project. The idea is to build a hands on tutorial about webcenter ps3. In the tutorial you will build a complete webcenter portal from scratch. I will explain every single line of code we will write. We will start with a regular webcenter portal application and build from there on so no pre build application were we only do a few modification. Everything will be explained from scratch.
By the end of the tutorial you should be able to build a fully portal by yourself.
I have an outline ready for the tutorial but i also want your input. If you guys want a topic covered in the tutorial, please let me know and i can consider it adding it to the tutorial.

Error in WC dot 8 command window

Hello - I am struggling with this issue. I have created Managed Bean in WebCenter Portal Extension project (designwebcenterspaces) in Jdev 11.1.1.7 (just one method and register the bean request scope in faces-config).deployed the managed bean as WAR. Managed Bean has OPSS API implementation and interacts with LDAP (against Default Provider in weblogic)
updated the weblogic.xml with the above shared library (managed bean name) and deployed as extend.spaces.war .. have restarted the servers as required
but as soon as i login to webcenter 8888 i get following error even before the home page show up.. Pl help what might go wrong OR is it a BUG in designwebcenterspaces ?

FYI, The exception seen in the bug 19682876 is the closest match to the stack trace or exception from your query.
The above bug 17528953 is already fixed in 11.1.1.9.0. You can request for a backport / one-off patch on top of Dot8 to see if it resolves the issue.
