WebCenter Suite buyers better off buying BPM Suite?

Just wondering if anyone else who looking to just acquire WebCenter Suite is now looking to acquire it via an Oracle BPM Suite purchase. From what I can tell the copy of WebCenter suite included with BPM Suite is not usage restricted. So for about the same cost as just WebCenter Suite you can also get all the BPM and SOA capabilities via a purchase of BPM Suite plus the pre-requisite SOA Suite and WebLogic Suite purchases.
Anyone else onto this?

  • "Oracle BPM  Suite 11g" and "Oracle SOA Suite 11g" components

    Dear Friends,
I am very confusing about the "Oracle BPM suite 11g" and "Oracle SOA Suite 11g" and would like your help on explanation as the following :
I have learn that In order to use "Oracle BPM Suite 11g" require to have "Oracle SOA Suite 11g" components to install first. Does it means that :
    1) When we buy "Oracle BPM Suite 11g" , we automatically get the "Oracle SOA Suite 11g" components as well ?
    2) IS it correct that these " these Oracle SOA Suite 11g components" are included :
    (a) Oracle BAM
    (b) Oracle Business Rules
    (c) Oracle BPEL Manager
    (d) Oracle Service Bus
    (e) Oracle Complex Event Processing
    3) Do we have a right to use all of these components listed in (2) ?
    4) Then the answers in (3) is "YES", then Is it correct when the customer buy the "Oracle BPM Suite 11g" , they no need to buy "Oracle SOA 11g" any more when they would like to implements that applications based on SOA in the future (without using BPM) ?
    5) What IF , the customer would like to start with "Oracle SOA Suite 11g" product and decide to buy only Oracle SOA Suite 11g first ; then later on in the future they would like to implement BPM projects in the future. Can you upgrade "Oracle SOA Suite 11g" to include "Oracle BPM Sutie 11g" and pay only the price different ?
I hope you can help providing the answers to these questions. THank you very much in advance.
    Best Regards
    Pearapon S.

This is a question best answered by your Oracle reseller or Oracle account manager to give you all the details but I hope this brief answer helps:
    - The Unified Business Process Management Suite (BPM Suite 11g) includes: BPM Studio, BPM Composer, BPMN Service Engine and Workflow Extensions, BPM Process Spaces, and BPM Process Analytics.
    - BPM Suite 11g requires the licensing of SOA Suite 11g for Oracle Middleware which requires a license for WebLogic Suite.
    - You can license SOA Suite 11g now and license BPM Suite 11g later.
Since the products are layered, I don't see this cutting into SOA sales at all. My personal view is that BPM on top of SOA is brilliant since it provides easy integration between human and automated tasks, builds on many of the SOA concepts that are key for a successful BPM implementation (functional, not the Oracle product), and uses the same IDE. The synergies extend past easy use of services; the same business rules and human workflow components are used between both products.

  • Hardware requirement for BPM Suite

    Hi All,
What are they Hardware requirements for Oracle BPM Suite.
    Regards
    Nasir

    Hi Nasir,
    As per other experts...
There is not much difference between hardware configurations for SOA and BPM.
As BPM 11g works on top of SOA 11g. So just we need a bpm extension.
So as a high ens congiguration u need to have minimum 4GB RAM to work with Jdeveloper with SOA and BPM extenions.
It is advisble to have seperate boxes for all SOA, BPM, DB, OSB servers for better performance.
    Hope this might help u...
also follow the link for 11.1.1.5 installation process that might anwer your question..

    Hi
I have a good knowledge as well as working experience on SOA & Oracle SOA Suite 11g.
Now, I've decided to learn Oracle BPM Suite 11g.
Would you please suggest me the best resource for this.
I've started going through Oracle BPM Suite 11g Handbook. The book is good, but just want to know if there is another resource/book that's better than this.

    Hi Sudipto
    Thanks for the response.
These were good links. The webinars seem to be good.
I'm actually looking for a book that covers the entire suite
In learn more section, I find two books
Oracle Business Process Management Suite 11g Handbook and Getting Started With Oracle BPM Suite 11g R1: A Hands-On Tutorial
Which among these two is better? If there's anyone who has gone thru these books, please suggest me a good book.

  • What exactly is BPM Suite 11g?

Does anyone know definitely what is in the new 11g BPM Suite? The Oracle web site is clearly no help right now as what it describes is what we got with 10g. Everybody who is working with the new release knows you need to have SOA Suite components so is that included in the price? Do I need to advise clients that they need to buy SOA Suite to run BPM Suite? When you are a small time consultant you don't get Oracle sales people to answer your questions which is why I am hoping I can turn to the forum for some insight.

Here's what I confirmed with the Oracle BPM product manager a couple weeks ago about Oracle BPM 11g packaging. I think it coincides with your tread.
You do not have to purchase Oracle SOA Suite when purchasing Oracle BPM 11g. The confusing thing is that both Oracle BPM Suite and Oracle SOA Suite both have three components in common:
    - BPEL
    - Business Rules and
    - BAM (not the BAM that is embedded with Oracle BPM)
Not included in the Oracle BPM Suite, but included with the SOA Suite are (do not install these when installing SOA Suite):
    - Oracle Service Bus
    - CEP
WebLogic Server and Oracle database are not packaged with Oracle BPM Suite and are purchased separately. I've never been on the pricing side of things, but I believe these have always been separately purchased.
All of the components now share a SOA unified runtime environment and JCA infrastructure. You get these if you purchase Oracle BPM Suite even if you do not purchase Oracle SOA Suite.
At design time you use JDeveloper to design artifacts for BPM, BPEL and Business Rules. You get JDeveloper even if you do not purchase Oracle SOA Suite.
At runtime you can use Enterprise Manager to track components. You get Enterprise Manager even if you do not purchase Oracle SOA Suite.

I don't think this is the case based on my previous experience with SOA Suite 11g and BPM Suite 10g. What I have seen in the past is that the support covers all products in the suite. Still, you bring up one more advantage to this licensing path... more support for my $$$

  • Hi, i want to buy a mac book pro. I was wondering if the ms office suit that i will buy can be a normal version or a one that has to be compatible with mac?

Hi, i want to buy a mac book pro. I was wondering if the ms office suit that i will buy can be a normal version or a one that has to be compatible with mac?

It must be compatible with Mac OS X. You have to install the Mac OS X Microsoft Office version > http://www.microsoft.com/mac
Also, you can use the PC version, but in this case, you will have to install Windows on a virtual machine or Boot Camp, so it's better to use the OS X version. There are alternatives for Office, like Apple iWork or LibreOffice, if you want to try them before

The reference to the Human Workflow docs is important. But it's also important to keep in mind that the architecture of 11g is different than in 10g. While you can interact with the tasks defined in a process via the Human Workflow APIs. You don't start process instances from those APIs. Please see this post:
Re: Getting while running the BPEL process from java
It references an ATeam example app that can start processes from a web client. But the Java APIs are described too.

  • How to extend Prebuilt SOA/BPM Suite VM domain to include IPM?

I am using the Pre-built Virtual Machine for SOA Suite and BPM Suite 11g.  I want to extend the domain to include IPM because my BPM app needs to search and update document fields stored in the UCM repository.  When I use the Fusion Middleware Configuration Wizard to extend the domain to include IPM, it fails.
One thing I noticed is that it doesn't recognize the existing components that are already in the domain.  For example, Enterprise Manager is not checked and grayed out as it should be.  (Maybe this is related to the fact this prebuilt VM has a "collapsed domain".)
When I check IPM, it automatically checks "Oracle Enterprise Manager" and  "Oracle JRF" in the list.  Clicking next, it then complains of existing components (Oracle JRF), but I select "Keep existing component".  Eventually I receive this error message:
CFGFWK-64056: There is a problem with the template!
So, how can I get IPM working on this VM?  Or, is there another VM (or more than one) that will allow me to run SOA and BPM Suite, along with UCM and IPM?  As I said, I am creating a BPM app that needs to communicate with IPM to search for and update field data for documents stored in the UCM respository.

    Hi Preethi,
I also have same kind of scenario. Were you able to refresh the workspace programatically?
    Thanks,
    Pradeep

  • How long until Oracle posts BPM Suite bundle definition and costs???

Alright... how long do we have to wait until Oracle officially posts what is in the BPM Suite and updates the price list? The current web site contents certainly don't have the up to date BPM Suite product bundle correctly identified. The May price list still has the price over $115K which can't be right since I also need the SOA Suite. I have run into multiple Oracle sales reps who all gave me different answers. Anyone else care to know this information with some clarity and want to chime in asking Oracle to make it clear?

    Hi Kyle,
I really understands your concern. With some limited feature with BPM composer it is best to start building BPM Process first from using Jdeveloper.
They we can move to web form which will give an more insight into BPM.
Please prepare to have some knowledge on ADF too. Its simple
To start with i would suggest below link:

    Hi Ravi, Leaf
I am facing similar issue when trying to logon to bpm workspace (http://localhost:7001/bpm/workspace) after installing BPM & SOA Suite 11.1.1.4 Developers (single JVM install of AdminServer only).
    Steps I followed are-
    1.     Database is XE, I have set an environment variable to TRUE as suggested on download instructions page
    2.     Install SOA suite 11.1.1.4 by choosing the options for BPM for developers
    3.     When logging to WLS and em console with “weblogic” user, it works fine.
    4.     On the em console, I have checked and verified the “BPMWorkspaceAdmin” role exists and weblogic user is a added to the role
    5.     However using “weblogic” user, I can not login to bpm workspace (http:// localhost:7001/bpm/workspace). The server log shows-
privilege NA resource //app/policy/OracleBPMWorkspace/null/null result ABSTAIN

  • Unable to access BPM composer UI despite installing BPM Suite 11g

    Hi,
I've installed BPM suite (& SOA suite too) but even after starting Admin server and managed server (soa_server1), I'm unable to access BPM composer (I'm
using URL similar to http://host/bpm/composer) though I can access WLS console, EM, BPM worklist application etc correctly. Just wanted to check, what else needs to be done to use BPM composer? Kindly let me know.
    Thanks,
    Harsh

    Thanks Rommel. It worked!
PS: I've seen Composer UI working fine in other BPM installations without specifying port in URL, so I was also trying on similar lines.

  • Newsgroup reorganization + New AL BPM Suite Product Center on Dev2Dev

    Hi,
As you've probably noticed, we've reorganized the BPM newsgroups a little - cutting down on the dozen or two that we had (aqualogic.business.service.*), leaving just five:
    aqualogic.bpm.general
    aqualogic.bpm.modeling (renamed old .project.development)
    aqualogic.bpm.runtime
    aqualogic.bpm.administration (renamed old .bpm.administration)
    aqualogic.bpm.development (renamed old .service.papi)
We hope this makes it easier for everyone to monitor and contribute. At the same time, we've created a new AquaLogic BPM Suite Product Center on Dev2Dev:
    http://dev2dev.bea.com/albpm/
    Regards,
    Jon
PS. Here's our intent for the newsgroups:
    * aqualogic.bpm.general
    - announcements, concepts, foundations
    * aqualogic.bpm.modeling
    - process modeling, simulation, importing models, modeling tips
    * aqualogic.bpm.runtime
    - performance, scalability, architecture, monitoring, J2EE
    * aqualogic.bpm.administration
    - installation, deployment, automation, configuration, directory[ALIP]
    * aqualogic.bpm.development
    - process management, version control, configuration

some newsgroups were renamed, others were archived.
the screenflows newsgroup (via NNTP) is not available anymore, you should refer to the new names if you want to access via NNTP.
People reading via RSS should not change anything since the URLs are based on the internal id and not by name.
