WebDAV and characters beyond a-z, 0-9

This is the second time our mac user base reports trouble with WebDAV.
If a file or folder with name contains åäö and uploaded from a PC, they disappear from the webdav/finder window as soon as they are clicked on. In some cases they are blinking instead. If they're uploaded from a mac they are uploaded denormalized as a°a¨o¨ (but shown as åäö) they work.
This issue has been confirmed as a problem on other sites as well, for example Box and CloudMe, and we're thinking it has to do with names being normalized on the remote end (which is normal behaviour). This applies to Snow Leopard and Lion as well, and it's at least a couple of hundred users complaining for us.

If the access to our infrastructure of database servers is controled by SSO, once I'm authentified by OID (SSO), is it possible to pass that authentification to XML DB through standard port 8080 ?

I got a lot of good info from the forum today, I do not have the internet at my house, which has added to this $100+ headache so I'm gonna try some stuff tonight and check back here tommorrow.
1. I would have tried uninstalling and re-installing but it came up with some serial number message, because I can't register online from my home I don't want to get locked out of the program or something, hey, it could happen knowing all this security crap.
2. I get the splash screen like others have, but I don't get the actual program: Premiere Elements 8, it runs through all the plugins on the application startup screen and then closes w/o any explanation.
3. After trying to get things working, "ElementsAutoAnalyzer.exe" is taking up 100+ mb ram in the background. What is this thing?
so far annoyed, but hopeful, still love my other Adobe Apps.
Feel free to address anything, I apreaciate it!! Even links to other articles, hopefully I'll figure it out tonight, I will post success / failure.

I want to add as much info as I can:
*Splash screen shows up, but only the video/image viewer/manager hub or whatever is able to open.
*I can open up the Premiere Elements program to the intro loading screen, once it loads the plugins it closes.
*I've tried every possible combination within the video manager hub thing to access the Video editing (Elements) software, it may show the loading screen then it closes with nothing, (the video manager remains open still).
Installed: Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0 from DVD 1, I did not install templates from Disc 2 or whatever.
*"Single Processor Detected" (I think that's what it said)
*I set up Service Pack 2, because it wouldn't let me install until I did this.
*I have Windows XP Professional
*I have plenty of HardDrive space. Don't think RAM is a problem.
What I'm going to do tonight:
*Install latest Quicktime 7.something, (downloaded on 11-01-09) from Quicktime.com
*Uninstall the unnessesary driver file mentioned in another post. (or disable it by renaming it)
*Hold shift key while opening program to clear cache, I read that somewhere.
*Possibly re-install software, hopefully I could get back in with my Serial.
-I printed out Trouble shooting section from Adobe.com.
Please leave suggestions, I'm sure I'm not the only one who will benefit.

How to seperate numbers and characters in a column

In my database i have a table named birth.DBA prior to me created a column with data type var char,for which data type number must be allocated.Both characters and numbers are entered into that column.now i have to change my data type into number.how can i do this.
My idea is to first separate numbers and characters in that column.But how can i do this.can u please suggest.

Is that what you are talking about?
To display the outline symbols, on the Excel menu, click Preferences, and then click View. Select the Outline symbols check box.

Also you can use XSLT for this.
Try the XPath function number($string) in your XSLT and see if it does what you want. Since it turns any XPath object into a number, the leading zeros won't appear.

I am trying to configure webdav on windows 7 and followed suggestions at here, here and other administration guides and still facing connection issues.

Hi Srikanth ,
DIS also behaves the same way as WebDAV and it provides far more functionalities compared to native WebDAV .
If you have UCM 11g server then go to Administration - Component Manager and enable Desktop Integration Suite component , restart the server .
Then from UCM - My Content Server - My Downloads - select DIS client and install it .
From DIS client create the server connection (exactly same as WebDAV)
With this you can bulk upload as many contents as your requirement is just like the way is done with native .

I have an extremely long and important email thread that has become unprintable (and in some cases unreadable) because each preceding email in the thread is indented and eventually the text is very far to the right margin and even beyond. Some of the text is even showing up as only 1 letter per line. I tried selecting all and then left justifying it, thinking that that would shift everything to the left, but it didn't work. When I go to print the thread, it shows as 344 pages, which although long, I can't believe it's that long. What do you think happened to cause this and can it be corrected?

Ick. So it can't just work sensibly? Sensible would be either autosave overwrites previously autosaved versions or all autosaved versions would be deleted when the message is finally sent. Allowing previous message versions to accumulate endlessly might be beneficial to someone, but does not seem like sensible default behavior.

Webdav and InCopy compatible?

My company has had continual problems with file sharing externally.
We tried Dropbox and Xythos. Dropbox lets you save multiple versions of the same problem which causes obvious problems when 5 people are working simultaneously. Xythos was giving our off-site mac user download problems.
It's now been proposed that we use WebDav as our file sharing place. Does anyone know if this will mesh with InDesign and InCopy? I'm worried that the fact that you have to download a file will prevent the InDesign user from working while the editors are in InCopy. Or if there are multiple InCopy files in one InDesign file, only one person will be able to work on any of those at once, right?
Has anyone used this software?

Ranges declaration for integers "and" characters

Hi All...
Is there any way in which we can declare a ranges variable for both integers and characters???
I want the ranges variable to check in between 10 to 13 and 30 to 33 and A to E.
I tried as ranges BT 'A' and 'E'. That is, it should only accept values in [A B C D E].
But the problem is, it is accepting the value [BETER] also.
How can this be solved.

That is fine. But the declaration occupies more space than actual code. Readability also counts!
Any other suggestions?

Number of folder sub-levels and characters

Does anyone know:
a) how many levels of folders are permissible in Mac OS X
b) how many characters are allowed for file or folder names?
I have recently switched over to the Mac system from Windows where the I believe the maximum number of "folders within folders" (levels in the hierarchy) is 8, and the maximum number of characters for naming files or folders is 64. My main concern is that backups in Windows are truncated beyond these limits.
I've searched for answers in Apple tutorials, forums, books (etc.), and even AppleCare was not able to answer these questions.

Thank you. Surprising that there is absolutely no limit on the number of folder levels and greatly appreciate the specific 255 characters information.
There is a path length of 1024 as specified by the pathconf() function:
PC_PATHMAX == 1024
What this means is if you are going to pass a path to a kernel function (and many library routines), the total string length may not exceed 1024 characters.
However, if you do something like
mkdir a
cd a
mkdir b
cd b
mkdir c
cd c
mkdir d
cd d
etc...
you can continue as deep as you wish, you will just need to make sure that when you access any files at the deeper levels that the string specified as the path does not exceed 1024 bytes.
