WebDAV: Mac vs PC

Still waiting for someone to post a good explanation about
WebDAV difficulties. So far, I've determined I was wrong in my
earlier message suggesting that deleting preferences would speed up
WebDAV. It made a difference only temporarily, and maybe that was
due to chance.
I have noticed that there is a big difference in the behavior
of DW 8 on my PC and CS3 on my Mac (the Mac is a much faster
machine.) For example, selecting text on the Mac results in the
text turning blue behind the cursor with a lot of latency. On the
PC, it's immediate.
Posting to the remote site also seems much faster with the PC
than the Mac. Not only that, but I have had several occasions where
the remote site was unavailable using DW, but I definitely could
get in using a different program, as well as getting in by using
the "test" button on the "Manage Site" page. The only way I could
get in with DW was to delete my preferences.
Can anyone provide some definitive information?? Especially
whether these issues have been solved in CS4? I downloaded the beta
version a while back, but had problems so I gave up.
Thanks.

  • Issue Mountain Lion accessing WebDAV

    Dear beekeepers,
looks as if there might be an issue of Mountain Lion accessing beehive over WebDAV.
This [post |https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4139087?start=0&tstart=0] sounds very similar.
The post is talking about inserting a directive
    BrowserMatch "^WebDAVFS/2.0" redirect-carefully
into the WebDAV configuriation, but I don't think this can be easily done in Beehive.
Anyone seen this issue in his/her installation?
    Regards, Tom

a user of OS X 10.8.4 reports the following picture when trying
to access beehive 2.0.1.7 TWS through WebDAV:
Mac OS X "native", cadaver and Cyberduck do not work. He doesn't
even get to the password prompt.
    Cadaver reports "SSL handshake failed"
ForkLift works without problems, and Safari, Firefox and Chrome
can access Zimbra without an issue (so the SSL handshake works
    there).
Seems as if newer versions of OS X face more than the zero-bytes
    issue when accessing beehive WebDAV.
Please share your own experiences with OS X and WebDAV.
    Thanks, Tom

  • How do I run iCal 1.5 on an intel mac or fix iCal 2.0 webdav publishing?

I've been using iCal 1.5 (any version, 1.5.2, 1.5.5, etc) to publish to a zope server using webdav for a few years now. I just bought a new Mac Pro, and discovered that while iCal 2.0 still publishes using webdav, the zope server is no longer able to recognize the .ics file. (it still can perfectly with any .ics published via iCal 1.5)
If I export an iCal 2.0 calendar as an .ics file to my desktop and then manually ftp that up, the server recognizes that, so the problem lies somewhere in 2.0's webdav publishing process.
So, in short - is there a way to run iCal 1.5 on an intel mac, or to edit how iCal 2.0 publishes via webdav?
Any ideas at all would be welcome.

    Hi DaddyPaycheck,
    Thanks for your helpful reply.
However, I'm still wondering if the SMC reset includes all other possible resets like PRAM and NVRAM or should I still try the option + command + P + R ? In other words, is it the ultimate complete reset you can do on an Intel Mac ?
It is just to know it the right way, because since the last SMC reset I described everything is stable and fast without any trouble whatsoever, so I prefer to leave things unaltered and be sure about the procedure when needed.
    Thanks in advance for replying,
    Beliarus

  • Webdav Settings in Mac MX 2004 dissappearing

I am running Tiger 10.4.7 on an Intel 17" iMac with 1gb RAM.
I have installed Dreamweaver 7.0.1 , put in my serial and
everything looks great. Once I enter the site information
everything looks fine, I can connect edit pages, the works. Once I
quit Dreamweaver and try to launch it again all of my WebDav
settings are gone. I have tried reinstalling Dreamweaver, checking
permissions on the config file, deleting and recreating the config
file, and the problem still persists. I know there was an issue
with the Windows version, is there a known issue with the Mac
    version too?

Thanks for your response. I should have mentioned that
Dreamweaver MX has been updated to the latest version, 7.0.1.
The main reason it is a problem is that the website is also
worked on by others using Windows. Not knowing on which platform a
file was last edited means not knowing when it was last edited
updated. If it was just me editing all the files, I could just add
10 hours to every date/time and I'd know when something was last
edited. But I can't do that.
A second reason is that it makes me wonder if our website's
backup system (which I have no control over) is working properly.

  • WEBDAV Connection and permission to upload to no Mac Webdav server

Our school district recently installed a new web server running WEBDAV ( I am sure it is Windows product). I use golive and dreamweaver (Latest editions) also with finder I cannot upload new files. In finder, I can see the files but I cannot copy files to the server within finder. I can download a file, to my HD, but I do not have permission/priviledges to upload. I can see the directory on the server.
Within golive and dreamweaver the i can connect to the webdav server but cannot upload or download. I cannot even see the contents of the directory.
The district is all windows, I use a Mac and in the minority but I would like to connect to the server to manage my web site.
The district is relutant to assist, but will try stuff I can find.

Added information: the PowerMac's System Pref's > Network does not display a WiFi link.  It is connected to the base by ethernet cable and certainly has no problem reaching the internet and mounting the old PowerBook (OS 10.4.11) via WiFi address.
But it still won't mount/share the new PowerBook (OS 10.8.2).
And I still need to make this connection, and find a list of all the required settings & procedures to make it.

  • I dont get it: .mac isnt a webdav server?

i want my friend and i to be able to edit the same calendar. and ofcourse the changes to show up automatically on the other's mac.
can this be done by purchasing .mac for either one or both of us?
we dont have private server that is webdav enabled.
but, could Back to my mac be a workaround somehow?

You are making this potentially far too complicated. Instead, you should simply use BusySync to synchronize iCal calendars with one or as many others as you total number of purchased copies allows.
You can control the degree of read-write access to individual calendars, and synchronize only selected ones: something you cannot do with .Mac Sync, where calendar synchronization is an all-or-nothing proposition.

  • Why can't i connect my iPad to mac lion server WebDAV service?

I am trying to connect my iPad to my WebDAV service on my Mac server lion version

The account is fully set up for the 3G p month but most of the time the network won't even allow me to get to my account. I have also reset my network a couple of times but this did not help either. I feel like I am wasting money.

  • Webdav in Mac - How?

    Hi!!
I would like to know if it is possible to map a SharePoint 2013 online in a Mac?
I know that SP 2013 needs webdav, but in OS X there is no webdav option to get connected.
Some say that by clicking CMD+K and using the address to the SharePoint site will work but is not.
And now i found a Company that uses services on the cloud and also webdav. The says that there is a bug in Mavericks that make imposible get connected to a webdav service using secure Connections. the solution they have is install a ssl-certificate
in the mac and choose "Always trust", after that webdav Connections would work.
Is there a similar solution for Sharepoint 2013 case?
Or it is impossible to connect to webdav service from a mac?

Well, I Found this may can be the solution...

  • 10gR3 webdav with Macs

Does webdav work with Macs? I'm getting conflicting information. I have a Mac user how can make a connection to the contribution folders, but when trying to move files gets an error message that the files are in use. Using the latest Mac OS.
    Thanks!

What error(s) exactly are you receiving when you try to connect to a WebDAV location? I'm assuming this is being done via Finder's Connect to Server? I ran across some issues with the .DS_Store files but was able to resolve.

  • Mac OS X Server v10.6 Snow Leopard - Webdav setup?

Could someone give me a run-through on what is needed to set up webdav or a link to same? On this server, I've got groups with shared folders, and users who can access at least one group each. I'd like to be able to have the users get web access to these same folders.
    Thanks, Ian

More words around the commands used, errors seen, tools involved, etc, please?
Why do I ask for that? This stuff works as expected here.
Here's what I did to get connected with a test server. First, get Apache going and enable WebDAV, both via Server Admin. Then (on the client) select Go > Connect To Server in Finder, and specify the WebDAV server via http or https as the target. The wheels spin for a bit as the connections are made, and Bob's Your Uncle.
I'm going to presume you have DNS going, but (if not) start there.

  • Sync on mac, remote, webdav failure. Is bonjour to blame?

This is an issue long overdue here. I'll try to be specific but there are so many issues proping their ugly head. Alot have to do with this convoluded webdav/wifi sync crap apple has forced us into (for the love of zombie jebus --- and real sync/download/upload in the ipod/iphone firmware!!!)
Since this works on bootcamp, I'm assuming its software.
Any, and I mean any sync, connect, communication with this macbook fails.
    1) I cannnot use the remote app in ipod (v3.1.3 - 2g touch), no icons shows up
But my window machine works perfect
    2) bought a new password reminder, 1password. No sync/device icon shows up. iPod
Shows the service is on (using sync AND backup/restore)
    3) PDF reader wifi sharing on webdav will not connect to THIS computer but others
I could go on..... The firewall is down, the system rebooted.. WTH?!?!
Could it be a messup in bonjour on this computer? If so, how do I fix THAT

I just got my bold 9930 traded in my iphone.  You are correct apples goal is to be the only one.  I have the same issue with ical and am hoping for a solution soon.  Let me know if you hear about anything.  Hang in there.  Please

  • Guide to setting up WebDAV for Windows XP clients

I've recently set up an XServe as a Windows domain controller, and was looking to WebDAV as an easy way of setting up remote access to certain shared files. However, it was not as straightforward as it seems - Windows is somewhat fickle about WebDAV and the Mac OS X manual states that "Microsoft platforms use an authentication mechanism that may make it difficult or impossible to mount WebDAV volumes from Mac OS X" (Web Technologies PDF manual, p. 45). After a great deal of scouting on the internet, I managed to get it working and thought I'd better share my method, since it's not all that straightforward. It's been mentioned on the Apple Forums before, but I don't think it was resolved. Much of this information comes from Mac OS X Hints but is updated in accordance with my experiences. (Some line breaks may be inserted by accident - make sure that lines are correct or you could have syntax errors). By default, Windows XP uses NTLM authentication for WebDAV access - you know this when it keeps popping back up with a password box, with the username in the form domain\username. This circumvents that, although I'm a little sketchy on the details - this is a compiled guide, based on my admittedly humble understanding of the authentication protocols.
    1. Enable mod_encoding and mod_headers in the Modules panel of the Web service in 'Server Admin'.
    2. Make a backup copy of your httpd.conf file (the main Apache configuration file):
    % cd /private/etc/httpd
    % sudo cp httpd.conf httpd.conf.backup
Uncomment the following two lines in httpd.conf:
    AddModule mod_headers.c
    AddModule mod_encoding.c
    3. (The following from benoitc's macosxhints.com article.) Paste the following in at the end of /private/etc/httpd/httpd.conf:
    # Set DAVLockDB for webdav support
    DAVLockDB /private/var/run/davlocks/DAVLockDB
    # Fix header for webdav
    BrowserMatch "^WebDAVFS/1.[012]" redirect-carefully
BrowserMatch "Microsoft Data Access Internet Publishing Provider" redirect-carefully
    BrowserMatch "Microsoft-WebDAV-MiniRedir/5.1.2600" redirect-carefully
    BrowserMatch "^WebDrive" redirect-carefully
    BrowserMatch "^WebDAVFS" redirect-carefully
    <IfModule mod_headers.c>
    Header add MS-Author-Via "DAV"
    </IfModule>
    <IfModule mod_encoding.c>
    EncodingEngine on
    NormalizeUsername on
    </IfModule>
    4. Create the folder you want to share with WebDAV:
    % sudo mkdir /Library/WebServer/Documents/dav
    % sudo chmod -R 775 /Library/WebServer/Documents/dav
Open httpd.conf again and zoom down to the end of the file and add this text (make sure you're consistent if you change the folder name to something else):
    Alias /dav /Library/WebServer/Documents/dav
    <Location /dav>
    DAV On
    AuthType Basic
    AuthName "WebDAV Restricted"
    AuthUserFile /private/etc/httpd/passwords/webdav.access
    require valid-user
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    </Location>
    5. Create the password file and the user:
    % sudo mkdir /private/etc/httpd/passwords
    % sudo htpasswd -c /private/etc/httpd/passwords/webdav.access davuser
    Provide a password when prompted.
    6. Restart apache:
    % sudo apachectl graceful
This is all you need to do on the OS X box. However, I found that this alone didn't work - I was trying to use 'basic' authentication (I tend to start easy, get that working, then add complexity/security later), which has been turned off by default in Windows XP Service Pack 2. XP also does not seem to support SSL encryption for WebDAV access.
    7. To get the above to work with Windows XP Service Pack 2, back up the Windows registry and add the following DWORD key with regedit.exe:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM \CurrentControlSet\Services \WebClient\Parameters\UseBasicAuth
Set the value to "1", close regedit.exe and reboot your PC.
    8. Open Internet Explorer, select Open... from the File menu, enter http://ip.address.of.server/dav and tick the 'Open as Web Folder' option.Press OK and enter the username and password you set up with in step 5.
All improvements/comments are welcome - good luck!
    XServe   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Well it says "System Requirements: Windows XP or later"
So I assume that means that it would be installed on the Windows partition.
It also says "If you do not have any Boot Camp drivers installed, it will install version 2.1 drivers onto your already installed Windows OS."  So doesn't that mean I could use the download instead of the disk to install the drivers? Or is there more to it?

  • Documents from Mac added to iCloud do not show up in Pages on iPhone 4S

Synopsis: Dcouments added to iCloud through Safari on Mac do not show up in Pages on iPhone 4S. New documents created in Pages on iPhone do not show up in iCloud. I expect the doucments to appear on my iPhone soon after uploading them from my Mac to iCloud through Safari, and to appear in iCloud soon after switching to the document listing in Pages and leaving the app. Several hours passed by without transfer happening, and I have waited a day and reconnected to Wi-Fi to wait several more hours. Still nothing shows up either in Pages on iPhone, or in iCloud in Safari on Mac. They are listed with their sizes and extensions (.pages or .pages-tef) in the iPhone Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage > Pages, though they don't seem selectable from there.
    Software versions and Settings:
    Mac
    Mac OS X 10.7.2 (Lion)
    Safari 5.1.1
    Pages 4.1
System Preferences > iCloud: signed in; everything selected, except Photo Stream (no iPhoto).
Everything seems to work, except Find My Mac is flakey.
    iPhone 4S
    iOS 5.0
Pages 1.5 (417) [no other iWork apps]
    Documents:
    the defualt "Getting Started";
a test document with default name "Blank" and content with the word "Testing", shown with upwards arrow in upper right corner; tried renaming to "Just testing", no transfer resulted.
    Plus button + offers: Create Document; copy from iTunes, iDisk, WebDAV; no iCloud (probably because it's supose to be auto);
    Settings > Pages:
    Use iCloud: ON
Restore: OFF; I have tried this, it automatically turns itself off after restarting Pages. No obvious changes result in Pages.
Settings > Wi-Fi: ON, connected to a network; tried several networks around town, as well as at home with a Time Capsule router.
    Settings > iCloud:
    everything ON, except Photo Stream;
    Documents & Data:
    Documents & Data: ON
Use Cellular: ON; also tried OFF initially.
    Storage & Backup:
    Manage Storage > Pages:
    three documents in iCloud are listed, one of which I had created before iCloud on iPhone 3GS, and deleted from iPhone 4S after documents added to iCloud from Mac weren't showing up as expected;
    their sizes are given;
    suffixes are .pages for the two created on Mac, and .pages-tef for the one created on iPhone 3GS (before iCloud);
    iCloud Backup: ON; successfully backs up everyday;
Email works, contacts are synced, calendar works, and everything seems fine except access to documents.
    Approaches:
    Software updates
Updated all software, no further updates available. Please confirm with aforementioned version numbers.
    Add and Remove Documents
Used Safari to add two documents to iCloud with its menu for Pages of iCloud's iWork section, one at a time. Documents were originally created in Pages on Mac, and continuously edited since then. Explicitly saved documents (Save a Version on Lion) before uploading. Documents appeared listed in web page without problem.
Have tried deleting a document on iPhone that was originally created with Pages on iPhone 3GS prior iOS 5 as a way to jog the listing on iCloud. Listing on iCloud in Safari on Mac continues to show document deleted from iPhone. [Before deleting document, I had updated iPhone 3GS to iOS 5 and signed into iCloud a couple days before getting iPhone 4S, then immediately used the restore from iCloud feature for the iPhone 4S in the Apple retail store, updated all apps on Mac and iPhone, then deleted the document in Pages on iPhone.]
On iCloud in Safari on Mac: deleted the two documents uploaded from Mac; added the same documents again; edited documents on Mac, then uploaded and chose "Replace documents"; removed documents again; added them again. Never showed up in Pages on iPhone, even after waiting a day.
Have used iTunes to add the same documents to Pages on iPhone. Successfully opened documents in Pages on iPhone through plus button + > Copy from iTunes. Deleted documents from Pages's document listing, though they remain in iTunes section.
Removed documents of same name, though older copies, from Pages in iTunes for the iPhone.
Created a new document with Pages on iPhone, simply added one word "Testing" and then switched to document listing. New document has name "Blank" and an arrow in the upper right corner indicating it will upload next time an internet connection is established. That hasn't happened regardless of being connected to Wi-Fi and cellular for several hours. Next day, reconnected to internet with both Wi-Fi and cellular, the new dcoument "Blank" still is not in iCloud when I visit the site in Safari on Mac, and still has the arrow in the upper right corner in Pages on iPhone.
    iPhone 4S Connected to Internet
Connected to Wi-Fi several hours each day, and cellular all day except from about 10pm to 7am when I switch it to Airplane mode. Always connected to Wi-Fi and cellular when attempting to access the documents in Pages on iPhone.
    Restart iPhone and Pages
Have double-pressed Home button on iPhone to reveal along the bottom of screen a list of apps currently open, touched and held an icon to reveal the close badge on all icons, and selected the close badge on Pages, waited a few seconds, then started Pages again.
Have held On/Off button until "slide to power off" appears, then powered off iPhone, waited a few seconds, then held button again to start. Have done this with Pages either open or closed, per previous note. Still no change in document listing for Pages: test document still has not gone to iCloud, documents in iCloud still have not shown.
I think the only thing I haven't done is a complete restore.
Question: Can anybody point out what I might have missed or haven't tried that would get the documents from iCloud to Pages and vice versa?
I'm not looking forward to several hours of restoring, but if I must…
    TIA

Okay, I'm not sure what finally jogged it. It seems to be finally working.
After downloading any documents I could from iCloud to my Mac, I deleted all the documents from iCloud. I also deleted all documents from Pages on iPhone, except the original "Getting Started" document.
I duplicated the "Getting Started" document (Pages on iPhone) and edited it by moving the butterfly to the left on the same page, then switched to the Documents view. It had the arrow in the upper right corner of "Getting Started Copy", but no progress bar and nothing showed up in iCloud.
Then, I think I went to Settings > Pages > Use iCloud: NO. Went back to Pages and got a dialog in the Documents listing:
         You are not using iCloud
What would you like to do with the
         documents currently on this
                        iPhone?
    Keep on My iPhone
    Delete from My iPhone
    Continue Using iCloud
I tried keeping them, then going back and turning it back on in Pages's settings, then going back to Pages. Finally something different happened: a progress bar on the "Getting Started copy" document. It never seem to finish, and would disappear if the phone went to sleep. I tried the whole sequenece again with same result, and nothing on iCloud.
I then tried Settings > iCloud > Documents & Data: OFF, and agreed to "Turn Off Documents" and have all documents stored in iCloud deleted, because as far as I could tell there weren't any documents in iCloud at this point anyways. I went back to Pages and the "Getting Started copy" suddenly disappeared.
So, I went back to Settings > iCloud > Documents & Data: ON, and did the same for Settings > Pages > Use iCloud: ON. Oddly, Pages now tried to download "Getting Started copy" even though it really shouldn't have existed anymore. I tried iCloud in Safari on Mac and saw there now was a document by that name, but when selected it said "Updating…" on it. I deleted it in iCloud, and it disappeared (I think, or I deleted it) in Pages on iPhone.
I gave up and waited a bit, maybe an hour or two.
I made sure all the settings were how they needed to be, noticed no documents in iCloud, and only the original "Getting Started" document in Pages on iPhone. I duplicated that document, and that's when it seemed to actually work. First, the arrow in its upper right corner appeared briefly, then a progress bar appeared on it instead, then the progress bar actually moved and completed. (I think. Some indicator happened. Everything is kind of fuzzy at this point while I'm writing this and juggling a couple other technical tasks.) Then I checked iCloud in Safari on Mac and the document was there. Wow.
So, I immediately tried uploading to iCloud from my Mac the two documents I had been trying, one at a time. Each time the document succeeded in iCloud, it suddenly appeared in Pages on iPhone. In fact, the second document began to appear in the documents listing in Pages on iPhone just before the progress bar in iCloud completed.
I tried opening each one in Pages on iPhone, and iCloud immediately updated each one with a preview and as downloadable. I downloaded them to the Mac and they opened fine. [Admittedly, the Pages version from iCloud of the "Getting Started copy" with the moved butterfly was a little different in Pages on Mac: it had the butterfly on the previous page underneath everything; the PDF version of that document had everything correct.]
Anyways, the document listing between iCloud and Pages on iPhone is working now.
I thinking it might have helped to clear out all the documents in iCloud and deleting all documents in Pages for iPhone. However, be sure to at least email copies from Pages on iPhone first if you don't have any backups. I think it might also have helped to turn off Settings > iCloud > Documents & Data: OFF, so it'll send that signal to delete the documents in iCloud, even if there's already nothing there. I don't know for sure, but that's probably the way to start from scratch. Oh, and maybe wait an hour or two after that before doing anything again, then turn Documents & Data: ON, and Pages > Use iCloud: ON, and then start by creating a new document in Pages on iPhone.
I'm just glad I didn't have to do a Restore from iTunes. And now that it's working, it's so instant between Pages on iPhone and iCloud! This is seeming like it will definitely be great, now that it's working.

  • Secured WebDAV Mounted Volume Authorization Issues

I use a secure WebDAV mounted volume from myDisk.se and up until the latest Security Update have had zero issues being able to manipulate files and folders as I would on a normal volume. However, since the installation of the Security Update (2009-004 (PowerPC) 1.0) I find weird things happening with this mounted volume:
    1) I am able to mount the secured WebDAV share using my security credentials.
    2) I can create a default "untitled" folder but when I try to change its name, the WebDAV authorization dialog pops up and despite entering the same credentials (why, I am not sure as the volume has already been properly credentialed in order to be mounted), access is denied.
    3) Trying to create a file within a folder on the mounted WebDAV volume I previously created pre-update causes the same authorization issue.
I have no other WebDAV shares I can try to mount from any other companies so I am not sure if this is a myDisk issue or one borne from the Security Update. I am not a .Mac/MobileMe user and that info is not filled out in System Preferences. The internal hard drive has been meticulously maintained with Disk and Permissions repair being run both before and after each and every software update installed. Likewise, the volume's structure is also checked both before and after and shows no need for repairs.
Any ideas? Perhaps there is a corrupted file somewhere that's affecting the authorizations needed by this third-party WebDAV volume?
The machine that has this problem is the last model iBook G4/1.33GHz 12" display, 1.5GB RAM, and a 100GB 5400rpm HD which replaced the stock OEM 40GB 4200rpm drive about one year ago.
I'm not willing to do an Archive and Install at this point as the loss of the WebDAV access to my online volume is not critical. Inconvenient as heck but not to the point where I'm willing (or able) stop my normal work to spend the hours it will take to get WebDAV access back.
Thanks in advance for any insights.

same problem here with webdav, I can't mount my idisk from university network on Mac Pro 10.5.3 (although it mounts fine from home network on both ibook and PMG5 10.5.3). Everything was fine with 10.5.2 and I already re-installed 10.5.3 combo. Other bugs as well with .Mac prefs (keeps crashing, sometimes it shows the available space on idisk but still no mounting, with error -35 or -8086), but .Mac sync is OK

  • Encrypted, sparse disk image stored on WebDAV server: problems mounting

My goal is to have secure, encrypted storage to back up my computer to a remote site. The remote site is an internet hosting provider who provides a lot of disk space and bandwidth, and also serves up WebDAV, for a very small price.
I have created a 100GB sparse disk image, with encryption, and stored it on the remote server. I then mount the directory containing the sparseimage (which is itself password protected using .htaccess) using WebDAV. My plan is now to mount the disk image, and use rsync to copy changes on my computer to the disk image.
This worked perfectly when I tested with a small sparseimage. It was interesting how the OS seems to buffer the changes in chunks: rsync appears to be copying a lot of files super fast, then it stalls as network bandwith suddenly throttles up for a while, and they take turns this way.
Unfortunately, after copying a few hundred MBs into the image, I am now having trouble.
First, when I try to mount the disk image, I see an enormous amount of data start transferring over the network. It literally saturates my broadband connection for at least an hour (I haven't been able to go longer yet). It seems to first download at top speed for a while, then switches to uploading at top speed for awhile. During this time, I notice that a mount_webdav process is consuming large perentages of CPU. However I can't see anything else going on at this point -- the disk image isn't mounted yet, all this thrashing seems to be from the process of the image trying to mount.
So first question: is this normal? Does anyonw know what actually happens when you issue "hdiutil attach" on encrypted sparse images? Does it have to touch and read through everything in the image once or twice? Maybe this is just a Bad Idea™
Second: the webdav server always ends up getting disconnected during this process before the image actually gets mounted. Do you think I'm trying to do something that tests, and exceeds, the limits of WebDAV?
Thanks a million for any help!

A follow up to my MS word document. I found that I created the file in MS word 2000, and I used the Apple File Security for OS 9 to encrypt it. I can't remember the password, and I do not find anything in the key chain listing.
I have Pages 08, but I don't think I can use it if I can't remember the password to unlock this old document. Is there a program to decrypt this without a password?
    Thanks,
