WebDB for Windows NT for Personal Oracle 8i

I have Personal Oracle 8i installed on my notebook and would like to install WebDB for 8i for training purposes. I have a older O'Reilly book about WebDB.
Is there an archive download for WebDB for 8i still available?
This is a similar question to Ashok Harnal about Windows 2000.

Sandy, I am up and good to go. I had no problems with getting Oracle 8i running after I removed and then reinstalled the app - with the automatic programs in my system tray DISABLED or TURNED OFF. If Net8 Config Assistant and Net8 Easy Config did not load during install - you will not be able to get the application running, although after install you receive a message stating that these two files are recommended but not required. Remove and then reinstall Oracle with your tray(bottom right of the taskbar) items disabled. Good luck!

  • MIN RAM FOR PERSONAL ORACLE 8i

    I have Windows/98 machine with 64 MB RAM.Can I install Personal Oracle 8i and work in Forms 6 & Reports 6 ?
If there are any limitations then pls let me know.

Oracle recommends minimum of 96mB voor installation of 8i. Although you can install with less you may encounter some problems.
Certainly if you wish to add the 6i suite ... definite min 128mb. You could alleviate an eventuel problem by increasing the virtual memory to 200mB althogh this is more of a temporary fix.

  • Personal Oracle 7.3

I have seen downloads for Personal Oracle 8i and 9i on the OTN site. I really need to get my hands on Personal Oracle version 7.3. We purchased a copy a few years to run a specific piece of software that will only work on this version of Oracle. Now the machine crashed and we need to re-install, but can't find our disks.
Does Oracle provide a download for Personal Oracle 7 and where can I locate it?
    Thank you.

We had similar problems with Oracle 8.0.6 server running on XP Pro.
The Oracle service was fine and we were able to connect locally on the server (without the listener).
When we tried connecting from another machine on the network we got the message "No Listener".
The Listener service would appear to start but as soon as the first connection attempt was made the Listener service would stop.
We did not pursue it because I believe that only Oracle 9 is certified to be compatible with windows XP.
    Regards

  • Personal Oracle 8i Database startup password

Can someone provide the database startup password for Personal Oracle 8i.I have tried passwords like "oracle","sys","manager"in both uppercase and lowercase.
None of this works.I have read the required documentation for the same. But I haven't recd any information.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Normally this combination should work.
    Anyway, try this out.
    In the command prompt,
    set ORACLE_SID=<sid name>
    start server manager/svrmgrl
    connect internal.
At this juncture , if you are getting errors, exit the svrmgr application.
try to reset the password for internal with a new password file. (Backup the old one).
    Tr connecting.

  • Connecting to personal oracle

    Hello,
would anyone help me to connect to the personal oracle using thin driver. i tried with the folling url. but i could not.
    iam using ocalce8.0, jdk1.2.2.
    String url="jdbc:oracle:thin:scott/tiger@(DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS =
    (PROTOCOL = BEQ)
    (PROGRAM = oracle80)
    (ARGV0 = oracle80ORCL)
    (ARGS = '(DESCRIPTION=(LOCAL=YES)(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=beq)))')

I get an exception java.sql.SQLException: IoException :The Network Adapter could not establish the connection.
Pls, help me to connect to the personal oracle.
    thanks,

    I think
    String url="jdbc:oracle:thin:scott/tiger"
is enough for personal oracle versions,
while you call from local machine.

Visit the site, http://store.oracle.com. Personal Oracle may
not be listed there yet because the site is new. But, you can
call the customer service number listed and a CSR can help you.
I think the latest release of Oracle (across all products) is
    Oracle 8i.

  • Drop table command in Personal Oracle 8i for windows98

I installed personal oracle 8i for windows 98. The database version is 8.1.5. When I try to drop a table that does not exist sqlplus hangs. Then I have to do ctrl+alt+del to cancel the program. Because of this problem I am not able to succesfully run the developer 6.0 admin tables script. Any program that drops a table that doesnt exist seems to hang. After this I have to shutdown the database and start it to work further.
Has anyone encountered this problem. Is this a bug or is there something wrong in my installation.

  • JDeveloper 3.1 + Personal Oracle 8i for Win98

    Dear all,
I want to use the JDeveloper 3.1 + Personal Oracle 8i + Window 98 for local testing before uploading the whole site.
Which extra products should I use to connecting them within my PC. Should I install a web server program or/and Oracle application server? If so, are there any precautions for me?
    Thanks a lot.
    Wallace.

    Wallace,
In order to save you some time, I will
    clarify some issues.
JDeveloper 3.1 includes a web server (webtogo) which can be used for local testing - no additional installation necessary.
JDeveloper 3.1 is not certified against
    windows 98 - only on Windows NT / 2000.
[Optional] Personal Oracle 8i will give you
a good local test environment, but ultimately you will need to migrate to your deployment
    platform and with JDeveloper's automated
deployment support, you may want to go
directly to the Oracle 8i on your server as
    it is just as easy.
I hope this can help you save some time.
    Sincerely,
    John - JDeveloper Team

Actually i installed TOAD for oracle v9.5 on laptop with Windows 7 ultimate
it gives 'Cannot find OCI DLL: oci.dll'. It seems TOAD for Oracle is a 32-bit only app, which means that it requires a 32-bit Client.
You might also want to stay away from installing Toad under "Program files (x86)".
Consider taking a look at Oracle SQL Developer - a very good alternative to the toad.

What permission should I grant to the folders where Oracle installed and the database related files located (datafiles, controlfiles, etc.)
Just grant Full for Administrators and System and remove permissions for all others accounts?
Also how should I configure windows firewall to allow client connect to the database.
