WebDynpro runtime demands on SLD (ESS)

Hello,
Can anyone point me to documentation discussing the runtime demands that broadly used applications like ESS make on SLD? I'd assume SLD is hit by JCO at startup but not repeatedly hit during runtime. Destinations are of course hit but what about the SLD itself. Do you have to figure in broadly used apps like ESS when determining SLD design?

Trying to understand WebDynpro demands on SLD

Hello all,
We're looking at newer versions of ESS/MSS using Web Dynpro and at the same time looking at a formal SLD architecture, which will probably be toward the centralized end of the spectrum.
What I need to understand is the performance requirements that broadly used self service applications like ESS and WebDynpro components in general make on SLD at runtime.
From my research it looks like JCO destinations with pooling settings, reference the SLD and would hit the SLD at j2ee startup and that's about it. Once the jco destination is created and the pool starts there is little interaction with the LSD from a WebDynpro runtime perspective. Is this correct?
Am I basically correct in assuming the only time the SLD is hit is when the jco destination is changed or on restarts? Please fill in any detail or correct inaccuracies. Others will benefit from this post I hope.

Print action in WebDynpro runtime (Visual Composer)

I have added in toolbar for the table the button and as action have specified system action "Print". But in WebDynpro runtime it does not work unlike Flash (there is no pop-up window with a choice of printers). How to solve this issue?

I don't think it's possible to directly print from within WD and call the printer dialog box per my understanding.
But a workaround is achievable:-
1. Create an Iframe element in a new view and embed an html page containing the print JavaScript i.e window.print();
2. When you select the Print button, on its action handler navigate to other view containing the Iframe where the script will get executed and it should probably open a pop-up.
Note: WD does NOT support JavaScript or client side eventing.

WebDynpro runtime mode in Visual Composer

We are unable to create and deploy Visual Composer projects with WebDynpro runtime mode due to we unable to see any datasource of systems in "Find Data Service" area.
In the same time when we use Flex runtime mode BAPIs in "Find Data Service" apears.

I've found the solution.
WebDynpro only supports Webservices as datasource.

Error while accessing menus in Runtime workbench from SLD

Hi I am getting following error while accessing menus in runtime workbench from SLD.( example: SLD->runtime workbench->component monitorung ->display)
"Error during communication with System Landscape Directory: User credentials are invalid or user is denied access "
I am using PISUPER to login to SLD and i am able to login to XI using this ID. I could find role -SAP_XI_RWB_SERV_USER - also in the user id profile of PISUPER.

Check if the roles are generated. Or ask your basis team to check.
IF the roles are generated then you have to check if exchange profile if the right username is mentioned or not. IF username is right then reenter the password.
Check the following parameter in exchange profile.
com.sap.aii.rwb.serviceuser.name
com.sap.aii.rwb.serviceuser.pwd

Design Time and Runtime
Visual Composer is a design-time software tool in which you can develop an application and then deploy it. After deployment, you can run the actual application in the portal to check its runtime functionality. During model creation and configuration, you define all the runtime attributes of the model components, such as the frame of a table, the size and types of toolbar buttons and the format of an output form. You can also define a range of properties of the actual Visual Composer design-time tools, such as the use of a background grid or the placement of the various toolboxes used with each board.
Runtime Environments
Models designed in Visual Composer can be deployed to run in one or more technology engines, including Web Dynpro and Flex. The same model can be deployed to more than one environment, although not all components and controls are fully supported in each. Models deployed to Flex can run on a range of browsers, including Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape and Firefox.
Visual Composer implements a proprietary XML-based Visual Composer Language as its source code for creating the models. Only at deployment is the model actually compiled into the executable code required by the selected UI technology. The result is a model once run anywhere capability.

W2 webdynpro application not found in ESS

Hi All,
I am having XSS 600 webdynpro BP , I cannot find any application related to w2 reprint, i checked all the applications in ESS Track but didnot found essusw2reprint. Can anyone confirm that this application exists in XSS 600 SP13 webdynpro BP.In other words i am not finding the Webdynpro DC related to W2 in XSS Track in NWDI.

can be found in the webdeynpro content administrator (not the PCD)
under path

1. Passing 2 values to RFC
2. Getting result contents from RFC and displayed in a table.
I am getting following errors:

u2022     Insufficient permissions for getting SLD access information. You can add permissions for your application via the SLD service in the 'Visual Administrator'.

You need configure SLD and JCo destinations in your j2ee engine..

Portal runtime error under travel/ESS/MSS

Dear all,
When we see privew under Employee self service --> ERP 2005 EhP2 --> iviews -->travel and expenses --> create travel request
Here I'm getting
Portal runtime error.
An exception occurred while processing your request. Send the exception ID to your portal administrator.
Exception ID: 02:19_26/02/11_0006_39627050
Refer to the log file for details about this exception.
But it is working fine under Employee self service --> iviews -->travel and expenses --> create travel request.
What could be reason, any body reply me.

Is the ABAP Webdynpro CATS available in both ESS and MSS?

Hi experts,
We are in the process of implementing the WDA CATS application for ESS (ECC 6 EHP5) but our scenario is actually for managers to enter in time in CATS on behalf of their employees. I can't find any information on this scenario using the WDA CATS. I have linked the application to the related activities iView in MSS but it seems to be launching the CATS application for the manager instead of the employee.
The standard MSS role (1.5) seems to launch the Java CATS when doing it on behalf of an employee. I just want to find out if it's possible to use the WDA CATS application for on behalf scenarios as it used to be with the Java CATS?

how are you? here goes some background info on cats and ess/mss:
In ehp5 - ess there are 5 application configurations delivered by sap in wd-abap one of which is the approval view for managers its called hrmss_ac_cats_approval. the remaining 4 configs are for employees to enter cats data.
Now the point of issue is the 'ess in mss' or 'on behalf of' functionality....
MSS at ehp5 cats is still on wd-java I guess,... I am not 100% sure so what needs to be done holistically is:
1. Select one of the employee cats appication configurations.
2. include it into the mss-related activity space.
3. now this has a known issue: passing of the employee number from within wd-java to wd-abap application sap has a couple of notes for them --> 1577099 & 1578965 chk them out....
4. what those notes say is you can put in any wd-abap service into related activity space which is still wd-java,... and get the manager to book time on behalf of employees...
I have personally not done the above yet,... but I did some r&d last year on the above......
ahh before I forget you may want to chk out the note 1513325
finally to be able to call the employee cats service in related activities could mean you have to:
1. create an iview of type wd-abap caling the ess-cats wda service.
2. include it within the related activities wdj page...
3. have the aforementioned notes applied..
4. ready to go...

WebDynpro runtime exception

Hi, In our quality server, after moving code from dev server, iam getting following exception
com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.exceptions.WDRuntimeException: Cannot find repository information for component usage PP_SalesOrder (Hint: Does a component usage of that name really exist?)
This PP_SalesOrder is a public part of SalesOrder DC being used by another DC. Any help?

if i deploy again then the respective compoennt works.
i am on Nw2004 Ep 6.0 sp19.
After transports are done to other systems again if i deploy into respective systems it works.
My Transports are controlled by NWDI.
please let me know if we can resolve the issue.

I have similar requirement where two applications existing in different projects(same).
I have a requirement where source application need to send some parameters to the target application.This can be performed using the above tutorial approach,but the issue is when the target application closed, the source application automatically expiring.
Any help on this issue issue.. i need a interaction between source and targed and vice versa.

Error in ESS WebDynpro ON EP6.0 SP9

Hello All,
I'm implemeting ESS Using WebDynpro, I Deployed all related ESS components and it's sucessfully deployed..,
I checked all my JCo Connections its working fine all connections having the GREEN COLORED.., and SLD is also working sucessfully working, but when i check the iview which is in content provided by SAP when i see the preview of the Overview or any iview Related to ESS it's giving "SERVICE CANNOT BE REACHED" and the error we faced in the j2ee "Causedby:om.sap.dictionary.runtime.DdException:"
i have done a entry in my service file also .. everything is okay it seems but when i'm tryning to check the iview its giving the "SERVICE CANNOT BE REACHED"
and the Error "webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/pcui_gp~xssutils/XssMenu call was terminated because the corresponding service is not available."
Could plz help me on this issue

Central SLD and Webdynpro

Dear all,
I have a new EP 6.0 installation running ESS/MSS and BW reporting and implemented central SLD.The SLD server was the CEN Solution Manager system. Because of some issues with support pack application in the solution manager system, the solution manager system was unavailable for a week. As the Webdynpro JCOs that are used in ESS/MSS use SLD, ESS/MSS in my portal systems became unavailable for my users. I had to configure local SLDs for each portal system to avoid the application downtime
I am wondering what people are doing out there to avoid what happened to me: High Availability? Seems a bit over the top as we do not have HA for our mySAP ERP production system which is the most important system of the landscape. Any other thoughts or SAP recommendations would be very much appreciated

Hi,
Ofcourse HA should be one of the strategies you should think about. But now that you don't have it in place and cause for downtime is something like upgrade or maintenance, which is unavoidable, you can maintain the ECC system (HCM System) in your SLD, point the JCo Connections to your ECC system and thereby you should be able to use ESS-MSS. This won't take more that an hour, trust me.
Would also like to know what's your User Management Strategy ? If you are using the solution manager as your datasource for user management on portal, then you can hardly do anything.
