WebHelp not displaying

We are having problems displaying RoboHelp WebHelp generated from RoboHelp 8 on a non-HTTPS server.
They have attributed it to the small bit of XML code that is appended to the beginning of each page. If they strip that off, the page loads fine.
That small bit of code is on every page. We can't hand-remove it every time we publish...
Our developement team says RoboHelp 7 didn't have that code during our last release and it displayed fine.
This seemed to be the most related thread to our problem without starting another thread.
Thanks,
Judy

LOL, Don't EVEN get me started on logical groupings of features in RoboHelp.
Your Community Professionals have offered their own views. And factions at Adobe shot them down because they said they had no merit.
But what do we know? All we do is actually USE the application every day.

  • WebHelp not displaying content in left nav pane

Any suggestions for why WebHelp is not displaying contents in
the left navigation pane? When Help is called, it displays the
frame (including buttons such as glossary, search, contents, etc)
and the work area, but does not show the TOC in the left navigation
    pane.
I have also tried generating FlashHelp, with the same
results. This time, only the work area displays. Any suggestions to
    fix this?
This is a new project, where RoboHelp is being deployed for
the first time. Any suggestions for making this a simpler
transition would be much appreciated. I have used RoboHelp for many
years with a different company and do not recall ever running into
    this many problems.
    Help!

Sorry, I haven't used the CSH method which, by the way, was
designed to show only the topic at first, I think.
I give my developers a list of path/filenames for topics, and
    they use this form:
    .../helpdirectory/myproject.htm#targettopic.htm
There are some shortcomings to this method, which leaves the
window open and, when you call another topic, another new window
opens. In other words, you have to close the help window manually
    to avoid windowmania.
A solution is a little js that checks to see if a window is
already open, closes it and opens a new one. (If no help window is
open, it's a harmless js error.) It's fast enough that you wouldn't
    notice.
The downside here is losing the browser history. Forward and
back buttons work only so long as the help window stays open.
In my opinion, this is not a major concern, since many Web
based applications these days tell users not to use the back
button. Production users won't mind so much.
For ordinary people doing e-shopping and online banking, the
    browser back button is anathema.
The bottom line is, if you have a decent set of navigating
options built into the design -- TOCs, left or right rail lists,
useful links at top and/or bottom of the topic page, the back
    button can become superfluous.
Browe sequences work fine from any point in the lineup (I
know, it's not the same as browser history -- unless you give them
a really useful set of sequences).
The forever-loading left pane is gone in RH 7.
    Hope this is useful.

  • RH8 WebHelp not displaying in Firefox

We have just upgraded to RH8 (from RH6) and one of our WebHelp projects that is available on our website will not display in Firefox. It is OK in IE and Safari.  All we see is .  We can view individual pages using the page url but not the project as a whole.
WebHelp that was generated using RH6 and is still on our website is still displayed correctly.
Has anyone got any suggestions.  Obviously we cannot roll back to RH6.
    Thanks
    Pauline

I experienced the same problem. It is because your server is not configured to handle UTF 8 encoding. Once my webhost fixed that, it was OK.
This is what he advised me
I would therefore conclude that the solution to this problem (on Linux systems running Apache) is to add the AddDefaultCharset utf-8 directive to either the Apache config or the site .htaccess file. The advantage of the latter is that it only affects individual sites. The default Apache character set is taken from the locale file on Linux and defaults to iso-8859-1. It is the conflict between the Apache header with iso-8859-1 and the page character set of utf-8 that obviously causes Firefox a problem.
In a forum post Chrissy_Tissy added
My machine is Windows, but this fix still worked  - some notes about making the fix visible:
    1. Do the fix itself (httpd.conf: AddDefaultCharset utf-8).
    2. Restart the box to apply the fix.
    3. Once the box is restarted, clear your cache in FireFox to make sure you don't continue to see the cached file.
Once all this is done you will see the output content as expected.

  • Search Tab in WebHelp Not Displaying Any Topics

Let me preface this thread by saying that I JUST figured out the answer to my own problem. I tried to post this thread about 2 hours ago, but the forum was having issues...I got unexpected errors, and such. Although I figured out the answer a moment ago, I wanted to post the thread anyway, in case others come across the same problem, they will know how to fix it.
The Search tab in WebHelp doesn't work. No matter what I do, no topics will display when I enter search terms that I *know* are in the Help system. I have another project on the same computer, and the Search tab in that project works fine. I tried to attach screenshots, but keep getting an "unexpected error," so I gave up. But basically, if I enter a search term and click Go, "No topics found" displays.
When the WebHelp is being generated for this project, the following displays in the Output View:
    "Processing Full-text-search data...
    Finished processing Full-Text-Search data in 0 sec(s)"
It looks like something that is needed in order to do the full-text-search is missing, but I have no idea what. I have read several threads in the forums regarding Search tab issues that others have had.
    I have:
        * Ensured that the itss.dll and itircl.dll are registered and in my C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder
        * Confirmed that I have keyhelp.ocx and hhctrl.ocx in my C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder
        * Used the same browser to view the WebHelp output for both projects (firefox 3.6.18)
        * Checked the project settings - they match
        * Checked everything in the WebHelp Settings window - General, Content Categories, Navigation, Search and Publish - everything matches in both projects
        * Tried creating a new webhelp layout, selecting a different skin...
    everything, to no avail.
When the WebHelp is being generated for the project where the Search tab works, the following displays in the Output View:
    "Processing Full-text-search data...
    Finished processing Full-Text-Search data in 115 sec(s)
I can't understand why the Search tab works in one project, but not the other project. See the diagnostic report below. According to the report, the only thing I don't have (and don't know how to get) is MS Help 2. But why would my search work in one project and not the other, despite not having MS Help 2? Both project have the same settings and I'm generating the same output - WebHelp. Any ideas why my Search tab works in one project, but not my other project?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

NOTE: In my original post, I forgot to include the diagnostic report that was produced by using the diagnostics tool mentioned in other threads where forum members were having problems with the Search tab, so here it is (just so that this thread is complete)...

  • RH8 for Word not displaying images in WebHelp

    Greetings.
We recently upgraded from RH7 for Word to RH8 for Word.  Images (bitmaps) that displayed perfectly when RH7 compiled the WebHelp do not display at all when RH8 compiles the WebHelp.  All we get is an extra blank line -- not even a broken image link.
Images are in the correct folder; nothing has changed, except for the upgrade.
The images were placed in the files using the New Help Image icon.
This is an urgent and high-priority issue for us.  Adobe Tech Support is unable to assist.
    Thank you!
    Jerry

    Hi again
Well, one might assume that you knew where the WebHelp output folder was because you are reporting the images aren't showing when you view WebHelp. So the question now becomes: How exactly are you viewing the WebHelp? Are you clicking the "View Result" button after you generate? Are you viewing after you publish it to the Web Server? (That doesn't sound right as you are saying the "keeper" won't push it until the image issue is resolved. This would seem to infer that you aren't involved other than to post and act as an intermediary?

  • RoboHelp 8 WebHelp: Some images not displaying in Chrome or Firefox Browsers

(I'm using RH8 v 8.0.2.208 under XP SP3, all latest Windows updates. Building to a WebHelp output.)
I have many topics in which the images have a Fade In effect (Dynamic HTML Effect > Page has been loaded > Fade in). I build it into WebHelp.
This works beautifully in IE8, but in Google Chrome,  and Firefox, there is no fade in (I can live with that I suppose) BUT some images are there, some are not - just white space where the image should be. I get identical problems, topic-for-topic, in Firefox and Chrome. Some fade-in images display, some don't. They are a mix of JPG and GIFs.
Can anybody throw light on this?

Using Firefox on my PC I get 3 images missing:
    1.
    http://www.omobono.co.uk/test/sapient/images/logo.jpg
    2.
    http://www.omobono.co.uk/test/sapient/images/nav_home_over.jpg

When I try to view them I get this error message:
    The image “
    http://www.omobono.co.uk/test/sapient/images/mainline.jpg”
cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.
Maybe try exporting the images again and uploading again? A

  • RH7 - Custom WebHelp Pro skin custom "Print" button does NOT display in version published to RH Server 8

I customized a WebHelp Pro skin using the Omega skin as the basis. Everything works fine except the Print button, which I added using the same Action as shown in the BeautifulVista skin's Print button.
    Local Version (C: drive)
When I generate my help project and view it locally from my C: drive after I accept the warning about viewing locally, I see the Print button.
However, it does NOT work.  I've attached a graphic that shows the local version and the skin dialog where I set up the action for the Print button.
    RH Server 8 version
When I view the same project after I publish it to the server, the Print button does NOT display.
    QUESTIONS ARE:
How do I get the Print button to function properly (active printer dialog)?
If it can't work until it is published that fine but then how do I get it display when I view from server?

  • Webhelp TOC and Contents not displayed in Google Chrome

    Hello All,
I recently tried to view webhelp (generated using Robohelp 7.0) in Google chrome. But chrome displays only the first topic of the web help and does not display the TOC of the help. Can any one please help me in why this is happening.
PS: I am viewing the online help from a server and not from local folder. When viewed from within local folder it doesn't display any info.

  • RoboHelp 10 generates Webhelp that does not display well in Google Chrome

We use RoboHelp 10 and create WebHelp which we post on a webserver. The TOC Index, Search / navigation panes do not display any content. If we generate a version with the "Pure HTML" option instead of the "DHTML" option the navigation panes do show the content, but we would rather not take this route because other functions still don't work properly.
It happens regardless of the contents of the helpfile.
No relevant JavaScript errors show in the console.
We found various tricks that claim to solve this issue but at least for RoboHelp 10 they don't work.

Only Adobe can answer the first question but I would not recommend holding your breath! Please do submit a bug report as otherwise there is no chance of a fix. Please follow this link.
    http://www.Adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&product=38
I have not tested the method using a CHM generated from RoboHelp for Word so I cannot give you that assurance. However, I cannot see why it would be any different and the links work whenever I have reverse engineered a CHM.
The downside of course is any build tags will be lost as your source will be just whatever was in the output.
The process only takes a short while so it's worth a try.

  • Chinese and Korean characters not displaying in navigation pane

I have an issue with Chinese and Korean characters not displaying on the tabs in the navigation pane:
I have 2 RoboHelp projects (using RoboHelp 8 with the updates installed) to generate WebHelp, one in Simplified Chinese, the other Korean. The HTML files, .HHC and .HHK were sent out for translations. I have set the appropriate language in the project settings, everything almost works, except for the text on the Contents, Index, and Search tabs. (I'm not using a skin.) I have read in various threads that the lng file should be edited using the RoboHelp interface, and this seems to be the crux of the problem. The characters do not display correctly through the RoboHelp UI.
The computer on which I generate the WebHelp is Windows Server 2003, and I do not have the language packs installed. (And am having problems getting hold of the language packs to install to see if this fixes the problem.)
Aside from installing the language packs, is there anything else I can try to help resolve the problem? (The characters in the content are displaying as expected.)
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated

Perhaps something in the Translation Info section of this page might help? (The specifics are for Japanese, but I believe the issue would apply to all double-byte languages).

Why is the RoboHelp not displaying the required data contents of <>.chm when linked as Help in my Application ?
    Cheese – Vipin Nambiar

If you looked at the error message and searched the forum, you should find the answer as this is a problem that started in 2005. You should not run CHM files from a server and cannot without editing the users registry. See the page below.

All along your questions have been based on webhelp, why suddenly are we going go CHMs.

  • Normal Style not displaying

    RH 11.0.4.
I have been using RH since 4.0 and am currently I have a RoboHelp HTML project where I am using two different style sheets. Each style sheet is associated with its own Master Page. I've done this because my client wants to eventually migrate to a new look. The 'Normal' style in both instances is mapped to a different font. I have ensured that the style sheet is attached and that all content is in the appropriate style. There is no issue with the first style sheet (and Master Page) I created. The 'new look' Master Page and Style Sheet have had random display issues with the Normal style; occasions where part of the topic displays or all content is not displaying. This is the case if I select View Selected Item from within the project and view the topic after compiling WebHelp.
I have created new Master Pages and re-assigned styles. One symptom that may help shed insight on to what is going on . . . is that when I edit a topic with the 'new look' stylesheet / Master Page and click Save All, the Headers and Footers message appears . . . This topic was created from a Master Page and the Header and Footer has been modified . . . The Master Pages have the same structure; just different font and heading styles. I have tried all I know to fix this issue. Any insight would be great. I can provide screen shots, if necessary. Thank you.
    ------------------------found issue-----------------------------------
Project has 2 different stylesheets (because customer wants to move to a standard template). Each stylesheet is associated with a different Master Page.
Style 'Normal' in Stylesheet #1 = Verdana; Style 'Normal' in Stylesheet #2 = Calibri.
When WebHelp is generated, any content using Stylesheet #2 and styled with 'Normal' does not appear. This issue is only in the body region of the document. I created a separate style for 'Normal' called "Normaltest.' No success.
To make the content appear, here is what I did:
    1. Open the topic with issue.
    2. Highlight a paragraph
    3. Select Style: none
    4. Change font to Calibri (font size was default to 12; which is what I needed so I didn't change)
It made no difference if I defined 'none,' in the Master Page file and changed the font to Calibri. I have confirmed that the issue does not affect Header/Footer or Number Lists (only numbers appear). Contact me if you need the subject files.

Found Workaround for Issue; but it appears 2 Stylesheets using 'Normal' is a problem

I assume you see something like this? (Ugly font to make it obvious )
This sounds like you have in-line styles applied to paragraphs. Certainly your steps 1-4 define a single paragraph to have the Calibri font, which will prevent the style from your stylesheet being applied to that paragraph.
A quick way to check is to temporarily (please take a backup, just in case) set Normal in your working stylesheet to a crazy font. If I'm right, you will see the same behaviour as you get when you change to your second stylesheet. If this is the case, you will need to look at the html for a problem paragraph and do a find and replace across your whole project.
Take a backup of your project before you start, just in case something goes wrong!!
You will probably have to replace something like the following with nothing:
    font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;
In my example, this is the code. I've highlighted the section that must be removed so that the stylesheet is correctly applied:
    <p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">MyCompany documentation
generally uses the gerund form (the &quot;ing&quot; form) of words for
titles and index keywords. Following is a list of the best gerunds to
use among many alternatives (e.g., use &quot;removing&quot; instead of
    &quot;deleting&quot;).</span> </p>
    If the font size is also a problem, you may also have to remove that code, for example: font-size: 10pt;
    Hope that helps.

  • RE: Images not displaying...

I am a very novice user of RoboHelp and inherited maintenance of the files from a source who left the company.  We use Team Foundation Server to store source files and Harvest to publish the files; however, in the last week I noticed new images added were not displaying ..somehow the images folder now displays under the Webhelp folder instead of at the same level of the folder and now none of my graphics display. In RoboHelp all the images are housed in a separate folder under Project Files and now display with a red X...when I check Properties it says the image is "missing"---any suggestions form the experts on how to resolve?

I suggest you create a new user name. On any forum, not just these, you should never expose your email address in this way. It is wide open to spammers.

  • TOC not displayed

When the webhelp zip file is deployed to a local filesystem,
we can navigate the help content with no problem. However, when we
deploy the content to a subfolder within the application, the TOC
navigation does not display. (At the bottom of the browser there is
    a Javascript error. )
We have created a new "help" subfolder within the application
that we deploy the contents into...does that extra directory level
cause some problem within the help content? We were under the
assumption that we can put the content at any level within the
application. Is that not the case? (Note: In the help content
Javascript, there are references to project paths and project
    roots...could this have any impact?)

Hi YuliaM and welcome to our community
When you moved the folder, are you certain you also moved or
    included all the
    Sub Folders
that are part of your WebHelp project? These have names like
    WHDATA, WHGDATA and WHXDATA.
    Original
    Application.exe
    WebHelpStartPage.HTM
    WHDATA (folder)
    WHGDATA (folder)
    WHXDATA (folder)
    New (Incorrect)
    Application.exe
    HELP (folder)
    ** WebHelpStartPage.HTM
    WHDATA (folder)
    WHGDATA (folder)
    WHXDATA (folder)
    New (Correct)
    Application.exe
    HELP (folder)
    ** WebHelpStartPage.HTM
    ** WHDATA (folder)
    ** WHGDATA (folder)
    ** WHXDATA (folder)
Note that the folders I mentioned are INSIDE the HELP folder.
If you didn't take care to move these along as well, that's
likely your issue. If you did move them, I'm a bit stumped.
    Cheers... Rick
