Webhelp Output Folder Structure

This is more of a question than an issue.
When I generate webhelp from a FrameMaker-integrated RoboHelp
project, RoboHelp always adds a folder to the output to match the
name of the FrameMaker book in the Project Manager/Project Files
folder.
Example:
My FM book is called apiusersguide.book. After bringing the
content into RoboHelp, the parent folder (to match the book name)
is apiusersguide. When I generate the webhelp, I want the output to
be in a folder structure that looks like this:
apiguide\
apiguide.htm (webhelp startup file)
chapter1\topics.htm
chapter2\topics.htm
and so on. The output I want is apiguide\chapter\topic.htm.
However, RH ALWAYS adds the book name to the top level, even
if I omit it in the Webhelp Output Folder field when I generate. So
the folder structure ends up looking like this:
apiusersguide\ (name of the FM book and top level RH folder)
apiguide.htm (webhelp startup file)
apiguide\
chapter1\topics.htm
chapter2\topics.htm
and so on. The output I GET is
apiusersguide\apiguide\chapter\topic.htm.
I've experimented with a variety of different FM book names
and output folder names and RH ALWAYS inserts that top level folder
automatically. Is there any way to NOT generate the extra top level
folder in the output?

I am sorry Michael, I am unable to understand the exact
problem. Have you created the TOC using the Auto-create TOC option?
That could be the only reason for it to display the same names of
book in the output. Have you tried to name the books and the topics
as you have specified in the TOC? If not, do that first and I am
sure you can get the desired results.
Again, as I mentioned, if I have not understood you
correctly, please let me know the real issue and I'll try
resolvingit for you.
Regards,
Pooja

  • Generated WebHelp output folder contains \!ScreenLayout!\ folder

I'm running TCS4 and just played around with creating WebHelp with RH10. In both my project and the sample Salesbuilder project, I find that there's a \!ScreenLayout!\ folder with only a mobile.css file in each sub-folder. I could understand this if I was generating Multiscreen HTML5 output, but I'm not - WebHelp was set to be the default layout in both cases. So 2 questions - first, why is it getting put in there, and second, can I safely get rid of it? My help only gets packaged with our software and installed on clients' LAN servers, never a Webserver. You can't run the software off a mobile phone, so trying to access it that way won't ever come into play.

  • Assistance with Search Feature used in WebHelp output

    Hi Friends,
I have a specific requirement. I am trying to copy and paste a few HTML files in the WebHelp output folder from an external source and display these topic in the final WebHelp output. I was successful in updating the TOC ; merged index entries and glosarry terms and definitions. The external topics appear in the WebHelp output. However, I am not able to understand how my topics can be included in the Search feature. As of now the Search option only searches for key words within the default project topics. How can I extend this search to HTML pages that I have manually copied within the WebHelp output folder?

    Welcome to our community
I'm more than a bit confused here. Why are you manually copying the pages? It seems that you don't mind the pages living amongst the other WebHelp pages. So why not simply copy them into the project? That way they would be included in the search.
If for some reason that's undesirable, you might look into configuring ZoomSearch. Look at the link below for that.

  • WebHelp Output files distribution and deployment regarding

    Hi,
I am just starting to try, learn RH7 to generate WebHelp.
I successfully did a very simple and basic test project and
our developer displayed the topic help on pressing F1.
    Good.
Our application is a backoffice payment system. Currently the
application is deployed on the Application Server which is
Macromedia JRUN 4 with the OS - MS Windows 2003 std edition SP1.
My compnay is planning for the following:
The application shall be deployed on the Application Server
Weblogic 10x on a UNIX box (could be IBX AIX/HP UX).
The application is bundled as .WAR.
Could you please clarify this for us?
    - Should the WebHelp output folder be bundled along with the
    above .WAR?
    - Can the Help files reside on Application server or the Web
Server (only the Help not the application) and
can still work effectively? (We prefer the Help to be on the
    App Server tho')
Well, if I am not clear, I'll be glad to get you more
    details.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Radha Renganathan

    Hi Radha.
Don't get confused between the generated and the published
output. The published output is the actual output required to be
placed where your users will access it. The location is defined in
the final part of the WebHelp single source layout. The help can
reside just about anywhere. You may want to check out our resident
    WebHelp juru Peter Grainge's
    website
which has all the options on calling webhelp plus all manner of
    other stuff.

  • !screenlayout! folder in WebHelp Output

When I publish a webhelp, it includes a folder called !screenlayout!
My understanding is that this folder is related to HTML5 publishing; however, the folder does not seem to be included in HTML5 output.
The problem with this folder being in the output is that it causes the installation process of our SharePoint application to fail.
    The below message is displayed.

Does anyone know if this is a bug or if it is by design?
Also, any suggestions as to how to stop this folder from being included in the Webhelp output.
    Thanks,
    Donal

    Hi,
Yes, this is a bug. You can remove the folder.
A quick peek tells me that RoboHelp is treating the CSS files of the HTML5 screen layouts as CSS files that need to be provided in the output. Please take the time to submit your bug at https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform.
The more people report a bug, the more likely it is to be fixed.

  • Webhelp Settings correctly show Output Folder & Start Page, but pubishes a different Start Page.

Why, and where else can I look to fix this?
When I publish a file, it incorrectly opens like this:
It opens to Charge Entry topic within Charge entry book.
I would like it to open like this:
Showing the Workqueue Help Overview page.
The Properties for the WebHelp (Primary Layout has the Output Folder and Start Page as C:\\Charge Entry - Workqueue\!SSL!\WebHelp\charge_entry_-_workqueue_help_overview.htm
That is the correct page to show the file I want to show.
Do you have any suggestion as to where I can go to change it?
Thanks for any help and/or insight you can give.
I'm a relatively new RoboHelp user.
    Vicki

You are not understanding the difference between a start page and a default topic.
The start page is what opens the tripane window. Typically you call it index.htm. Elsewhere in the configuration of your output there is a field to set the default topic. That is the topic that will appear in the topic pane. Select the topic you mentioned and then the help will open as you wish.
Please see the Sticky Topic "Before You Post" and start new threads with the version and edition of RoboHelp that you are using. Had you done so, I could have included a screenshot to help you.
Post back if still not clear.

  • How can I batch Save For Web and maintain a multilevel folder structure?

First... I am using an old version of Photoshop.... 6.0 to be exact.  If your answer is to buy the newer versions, I respectfully say I know that's AN answer, but I'm looking for something that will work with my setup.  The version we have works just fine for the very few things we need it for, and we use new versions of InDesign and Acrobat for all else.
    So here's the challenge:
We have a weekly magazine featuring 1,200 plus photos of cars for sale, each saved in a folder named for the sales rep, week and day.  I must maintain these folder structure throughout the process, as the files names are duplicated by cameras and across reps.  So I cannot dump all batch converted pics into one single folder, yet I need to reduce the Quality setting which I find when completing a Save As in Photoshop.
So I want to batch convert all the photos in multiple folders, some 3 folders deep, all at once....  reduce to 8 inches across, change to 72dpi, and reduce the quality slider to 5, which creates a nice 60-90K file.  BUT.... it wants to save all of them in a particular folder.  I need to just overwrite the original file with the new smaller one.... or save the new small version into the same folder the big one is in, but have it work with the "include all sub-folders" option in batch.
    A sample File system .... 4513 Photos - Color <day of week> (3 folders) - <disk number><rep>Color (20 folders) - actual photos.
After converting, we push up the final level of folder to our website and that organization allows us to use them there the way we need.  The uploading to the site and batch functions are done 3 to 4 times per week.... on different days.
Is there a way to reduce the quality (compression) of the jpgs that does not require the creation of a new file in a particular folder, or is there a way to have the resulting file just drop back into the folders and subfolders during a batch function?  I just can't figure this out!
As an alternative, what other programs might do this?

You should be able to just use the html output of the Export for Web function and, if the video's converted correctly, just swap the file names at the appropriate places. Have you tried renaming VisualHub's output to what the Export for Web html wants, then placing it in the proper location?
I'm not aware of a way to batch create the html files, but if I had to, I'd probably look at automator to see if I could figure out it's text manipulation options.

In a situation such as yours, I tend to consolidate items into folders so I have folders of nice workable numbers of images, somewhere between 20 and 200 images. Now, whatever, once you've imported, do your moving within LR, not the OS! I will select all in a folder and drag into a folder a level or two or three above, and then delete the newly empty subfolders. I hope this helps a bit!
Once you've reached just new Imports of camera output, you'll be flying along.

  • RoboHelp 9 Publish to SharePoint - why not just change output folder?

    Hello,
For publishing my help to SharePoint, I was not able to get the video publishing to SharePoint to play, but tried to follow what written instructions I could find. and they didn't work. However, I was able to publish directly to SharePoint by simply changing the "Output folder and Start page" on the "General"  WebHelp single source layout settings page. I just made the files go directly to the SharePoint document library - into an empty folder I placed there.  Here is the path I used: \\sharepoint\HR\HCMHRResources\OnlineHelp\HRSpace\index.htm    It seems to work fine. Is there any reason I should not do it this way?

Oops... my bad My Bad MY BAD!
That will teach me to reply without fully comprehending the thread. I was thinking you were referring to typing the UNC address into the publish destination field. But after looking at it again it seems you are talking about where WebHelp is generated.
Actually you DO NOT want to work that way. Here's why.
If you are placing content on a shared medium, odds are that users are accessing it from there, no? The first steps in the generation process involve removing the content from the folder in preparation for receiving a new round of content. And as you may imagine, if users are looking at the information and suddenly it's deleted, it's going to cause issues.
You always want to generate to your local hard drive. Then copy that content from your generated location to the server. And that's what Publish (which is what I thought you were doing) accomplishes.

  • What is the best way to explore a hierarchical folder structure?

    Hallo,
I need to access and navigate a hierarchical folder structure hosted in a MS SQL Server database. In particular there is a root folder containing several folders. Each child-folder contains further nested folders or documents.
For each item I need to retrieve the folder's (name, path, etc) and the documents (title, author, etc.) details that are retrievable from the DB fields. Afterwards I will use these data to create a semantic web ontology using Jena API.
My question was about which is the best way to proceed.
A collegue of mine suggested to use the "WITH" command of SQL Server to create and use a link list to navigate easily the structure, executing just one query rather than several (one for each level of the nested loops). However in this way the solution will work only with the SMQ Server database, while my goal is to achieve a more general solution.
    May someone help me?
    Thank you in advance,
    Francesco

My goal is to create a documents library ontology achieving, from each element of the hierarchy (folder or document), some data (title, parent, etc.) and use them to "label" the ontology resources.
I will use a little of both approches in the following way:
    1) I make just ONE query on folder table to get, from each folder, its path (eg. root/fold1/fold2/doc1.pdf), its ID and ParentID and ONE on the Documents table to get the containerID, title, etc.
    2) I create as many Folder objects as the retrieved records and an HashTable, where the KEY = Folder.ParentID value and the VALUE = Vector<Folder>. I add then each object to the Vector relative to the same ParentID. In this way I have an Vector containing all the folders child of the same parent folder and I do the same for an HashTable keeping the documents contained in a specific folder.
3)I extract from the HashTable the root folder (whose ParentID is always "0" and whose ID is "1") than it is invoked the method appendChild() (see code)
public static void appendChild(int ID, Resource RES)
              Vector<Folder> currFold = table.get(ID);
              for(int i=0; i<currFold.size(); i++)
//Extract the child and crate the relative resource
                   if(table.containsKey(currFold.getID()))
                        appendChild(currFold[i].getID(), Resource newRES);
In this way I go in depth in the hirarchical structure using a "left most" procedure. I made a test and the output is correct. However, such an approch must be done for about 4 level depth folders (around 30 in total) containing also documents and creating the documents library of a Project. Then I must process around 20 project to achieve for all of them such a documents library representation.
By the way, I do not have to mantein the HashTable content after I created the docs library ontology. Hence I use just one hashTable for ALL the projects and I flush it after I finish to do the loop for one project in order to save resources.
My question is: is right my approach or might I improve it in some way?
    Thank you for every suggesion/comment.
    Francesco

  • Rebuild source files from Webhelp output?

Today I deleted an unwanted *.css file from my RH9 project with the result that 300 images files were suddenly deleted. Subsequently, I reimported the source Word files to create a new image folder. The result of this, even though I cleared the selection boxes on the "Do you want to over-write" prompt, was that RH9 proceded to overwrite the topics anyway. So I have now lost 20 reformatted topics.
Why these things happened is not my main concern right now, though clearly it indicates that RH has some serious issues in file handling. (It has happened before).
Before RH9 deleted and over-wrote all my topic files, I generated webhelp output, and I want to know if I can recreate those topics to my project somehow using the latest Webhelp output files.

    Hi Michael
I think what you are seeing is typical behavior when you have a linked Word document. And therein lies a bit of an issue. Certainly RoboHelp allows you to link a Word document, but Word and HTML are a bit like mixing oil and water. Word creates things you intend to print. HTML is intended for screen display. Mixing the two results in a bit of a kludge.
So first, let's try and understand how RoboHelp deals with Word this way. When you link a Word document, you will get a real honest to goodness file folder that is named identically to the document. In the RoboHelp project manager, the icon doesn't look like a folder. It looks like a Word logo with some arrows superimposed that will indicate the status.
Inside this folder should be your topics that were created based on the Word document.
I know you said you didn't want the CSS, but the process of bringing Word in will *ALWAYS* create a .CSS file. You may as well learn to simply accept it. The thing is, you don't have to use it. Just ignore it is there. You are free to associate a single CSS of your choice with your files either before or during the generation/compilation process.
The folder with the name matching the document and ending in _files is normally created when you convert Word to HTML. That's normally where Word will store and reference any images that were found in the document. That's a common Microsoft Word behavior. If you wish to confirm this, just close everything and open Word only. Create a document with some images then choose to save the Word document as HTML and look at what you end up with.
It's surprising to me that simply deleting a .CSS would blow any images away. Perhaps your Word document was created in a manner where the images are somehow referenced using CSS?

  • Problem in viewing the webhelp output in a RoboHelp-DocumentX project

Hi, I am working with Robohelp X5. The project is generated together with DocumentX and hence contains more than 15,000 files. Secondly, the proper webhelp output is extremely essential for this project as it concerns the links which are also in thousands.
A problem has occured where the webhelp is getting generated, but I cannot view the output. The generated file occurs in the webhelp folder, but displays only a single page with no navigation pane or even the content/search tabs.
The project had been successful in April. While updating it, I copied the Robohelp project folder and things started. Initially the prosource folder was showing an error while opening the project. When I copied it again to a different location, the project file opened and functioned fine, but the output problem is still there.
What I have now id - The original folder with the crashed project, 2 new copies of  this folder where the project works fine and the webhelp is generated with no output.
Please help me, because starting from scratch with DocX files is a nightmare!

By DocumentX do you mean the Microsoft Word format .docx?
If so I am not surprised you have had trouble. Quite simply, X5 is not Word 2007 compatible.
I don't follow "hence contains more than 15,000 files". What's the connection with using Word that causes a high number of files that would not occur otherwise?
15,000 topics in one project is high anyway and at the level I would expect problems.

  • Problems generating WebHelp output using RoboHelp X5

    Hello,
I have been using RoboHelp X5, build 606 since last 2 weeks. I am facing problems with the generation of WebHelp output, when I generate and publish the project, it does not give me the Index and TOC. I have taken over the project from another author and when I compare the new Published Help folder with the previous author's work, I see some missing files. Could anyone from the group please help me resolve this issue?
    Thanks!

    Two possibilities from that information.
1] Is the D drive a partition on your hard disk or a network drive? RoboHelp projects must be run from your hard disk.
2] The more likely is that RH is not properly installed. When the previous author left, was RH uninstalled and reinstalled using your login? For X5 it must be installed using your login? Also you need local admin rights both to install and use it.
My guess is this is all to do with X5 not having been installed with your login and with you having local admin rights.
This will lead to another problem. X5 can no longer be activated. The solution to that is on my site. See Snippet 100.

  • Flex Build Path : How to really customize output folder ?

    Hi all,
I am using this kind of project structure :
D:\project\src\ : the flex project sources
    D:\project\src\classes\ : the mxml / AS classes
    D:\project\bin\ : the swf output
My main application is in this path :
    D:\project\src\classes\projectPackage\Main.mxml.
I configured my Flex Build Path (in the flex project
    properties) this way :
    - Main source folder :
    classes
    - Output folder :
    D:\project\bin
Unfortunately, the output files are created in these paths :
    D:\project\bin\projectPackage\Main.swf
    D:\project\bin\projectPackage\Main-debug.swf
    D:\project\bin\projectPackage\Main-profile.swf
    Whereas I wanted :
    D:\project\bin\Main.swf
    D:\project\bin\Main-debug.swf
    D:\project\bin\Main-profile.swf
Would you know if it is possible to configure the real output
    folder somewhere ?
    Thank you all
    Cheers
    Philippe

    Hi levancho,
    Thanks for your answer.
    You probably meant to use
src\classes\projectPackage as the Main source folder.
This is working this way. However, there are some little
    problems :
    I have this warning : "
    Source path entry, '
D:\project\src\classes', is a subdirectory of source path
    entry, '
    D:\project\src\classes\projectPackage'." which is
strange because it is the second path which is a subdirectory of
    the first.
There are conflicts when the compiler
tries to resolve the classes within the
src\classes\projectPackage directory. For instance, for a
    class clalled Application located in
    src\classes\projectPackage\Application.as, it doesn't know
how to make a difference between Application and
    projectPackage.Application.
    Solution : move classes from
    projectPackage to some sub packages.
