WebHelp Search Displays Selected Topics Without Acknowledging LF

I have a text document using UNIX style line breaks that I run through a parser to create multiple help topics.
These topics display normally (see attached image) when called directly, rather than through WebHelp and when selected from the Contents or Index tabs.
However ,when selected through the search tabs, the LF character seems to be ignored.
Has anyone else seen this?  This feels like a bug.

RoboHelp 10.0.0.287.  Sorry, that would have been useful to mention.
I also wanted to add that it seems like the <pre> tag is being ignored.
in our usage it is <PRE><SPAN> some text
some text
some text
</SPAN></PRE>
That should be preserved in the display, but for some reason isn't being preserved.

  • Search Tab in WebHelp Not Displaying Any Topics

Let me preface this thread by saying that I JUST figured out the answer to my own problem. I tried to post this thread about 2 hours ago, but the forum was having issues...I got unexpected errors, and such. Although I figured out the answer a moment ago, I wanted to post the thread anyway, in case others come across the same problem, they will know how to fix it.
The Search tab in WebHelp doesn't work. No matter what I do, no topics will display when I enter search terms that I *know* are in the Help system. I have another project on the same computer, and the Search tab in that project works fine. I tried to attach screenshots, but keep getting an "unexpected error," so I gave up. But basically, if I enter a search term and click Go, "No topics found" displays.
When the WebHelp is being generated for this project, the following displays in the Output View:
    "Processing Full-text-search data...
    Finished processing Full-Text-Search data in 0 sec(s)"
It looks like something that is needed in order to do the full-text-search is missing, but I have no idea what. I have read several threads in the forums regarding Search tab issues that others have had.
    I have:
        * Ensured that the itss.dll and itircl.dll are registered and in my C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder
        * Confirmed that I have keyhelp.ocx and hhctrl.ocx in my C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder
        * Used the same browser to view the WebHelp output for both projects (firefox 3.6.18)
        * Checked the project settings - they match
        * Checked everything in the WebHelp Settings window - General, Content Categories, Navigation, Search and Publish - everything matches in both projects
        * Tried creating a new webhelp layout, selecting a different skin...
    everything, to no avail.
When the WebHelp is being generated for the project where the Search tab works, the following displays in the Output View:
    "Processing Full-text-search data...
    Finished processing Full-Text-Search data in 115 sec(s)
I can't understand why the Search tab works in one project, but not the other project. See the diagnostic report below. According to the report, the only thing I don't have (and don't know how to get) is MS Help 2. But why would my search work in one project and not the other, despite not having MS Help 2? Both project have the same settings and I'm generating the same output - WebHelp. Any ideas why my Search tab works in one project, but not my other project?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

NOTE: In my original post, I forgot to include the diagnostic report that was produced by using the diagnostics tool mentioned in other threads where forum members were having problems with the Search tab, so here it is (just so that this thread is complete)...

  • How to display Calendar view without having to select date

    Hi there,
I would like to know can I display Calendar view without having user to select date first.
And also, how do I highlight the date in calendar view for example, to show that i have set a reminder on that date?
I have searched many threads before, but I could not get the final answer.

    Hi,
Is there a way to display a full calendar popup with time stamp so the users can pick the timestamp from the popup?Date Picker doesn't have this feature. You can use Javascript to achieve the same. But at same time it's highly unrecommended to use javascript with OAF pages.

The data then can be Queried online or accessed by report.
However, aggregated data is updated once a month giving the users a

    etc...

RH7 added the option of including breadcrumbs to your topics.
By default that setting is enabled in the single source layout

  • How to display selected .chm help topic

In .hlp you just click on a topic once in the TOC or index
and that topic displays. In .chm you have to click twice to display
the topic. How can I get my .chm to work like .hlp?
I'm running RH X5 on XP. Did not find anything about this in
    help or forum.

    Hi again
I think you will be able to accomplish it, but your developer
will need to become accustomed to coding things differently. After
all, you aren't using WinHelp any more. You are now in the world of
the compiled .CHM file! The calls will be different.
Unfortunately, I'm not a good source for advising how the
calls should change. I'm not a developer and I didn't stay at a
Holiday Inn Express last night, so I can't tell you what needs to
change. I'm thinking that your developer will need to visit a forum
to ask how to properly connect the application to a compiled .CHM
file. You might start at the links below for info.

  • Can I create a Search within one topic?

    Here is my challenge:
    (1) Building WebHelp for a web-based data application in 8.0.2.208 (I also have one member working on 5.0.1)
    (2) The web-based data application has 1530 data definitions
    (3) The Product Manager would like the ability to perform a search for a data defintion by allowing the user to enter text and then initiating a search specific to the list of data definitions and not including the entire application help (i.e., a search on one topic or a collection of topics)
Not sure if this is possible. I would like to:
    (1) Have one primary topic with the name of every data definition in the application (again 1530 of them)
    (2) Have an entry field where the user types part of the data definition name and allow them to click a button to initiate the search
    (3) Put the user at the first item that matches their search
    (4) Each item would be a hyperlink to the actual data definition - OR - have all data definitions on one page (YIKES)
    --- OR ---
    (1) Have a collection of topics with data defintions
    (2) Allow the user to enter search criteria and limit the results to the collection of topics related to the data definitions
Is there an "in topic search control" or a search control that can be limited to one topic or a collection of topics?
I have looked at setting up a form with a form field/text field and command button but I cannot find any substantive documentation on how this works or what I need to get it to work.
Any suggestions?  As always, thanks for any input.
    Michael F Weart

    Two last things:
    (1) In the Skins setup, I had to add the "Search.html" in the skin to the "ZoomSearch" button using Links and not Advanced. Having it in Advanced did not open the Search form in my help. When I clicked the ZoomSearch menu bar item, it just flashed and did not open the ZoomSearch search topic.
    (2) I got the search processing to work in my project, but at some point it stops working. The search topic displays when I click ZoomSearch and results are shown but when I click the link to go to the page listed in the results, I get the standard "Internet Explorer cannot display the web page".
When I look at the link it has:
    file:///C:/Research/SearchProcessing/!SSL!/HPI_Change_Metrics.htm
    It should have:
    file:///C:/Research/SearchProcessing/!SSL!/WebHelp/HPI_Change_Metrics.htm
All I did was re-compile the WebHelp, re-publish the WebHelp, regenerate the search index and repost the 5 Search related files into my WebHelp folder (in the search_files folder). Any idea why it would not have the "WebHelp" included in the path?
    As always, thanks --

  • Some .htm file not displaying in Topic List, but displaying in RH11 folder

    Hi All,
We are running a project using RH 11, team consist of 3 person (include me)
But we have problem with many  .htm file from my 1st coworker, file not displaying in Topic List in my Robohelp and 2nd coworker.
Although we already get the latest file again and again
But .htm file displaying in all our RH11 folder.
In my 1st coworker RH, all file displaying in Topic List also RH11 folder, but when file generated then
Many files from 1st coworker, hyperlink is not working well (broken link / file not found)
Does anyone have experience about this problem
    Thanks

First of all, make sure you do not have the following files in source control: .cpd, .pss, .ldb.
These files contain local information that can cause problems when in source control.
    Then try this:
    Everyone deletes the .cpd file.
Everyone gets the latest files for the whole project from source control.
    Open the project.
    Does everything now display correctly?
If yes, you need to make sure you delete the cpd file before opening the project each day, and also during the day if you know a co-worker has made changes that you need. This file is a database which includes a list of all the files Robohelp knows about. When other people are adding and removing files, this information no longer matches properly. I recommend doing a Get Latest in these situations as well, just to make sure Robohelp can find the correct information.
If you are still not seeing the correct files repeat the above process, but at step 2, pick the options to Overwrite local files. I can't say where you will see these options - they may be two checkboxes in a dialog box when you select Get Latest - it will depend on your source control application.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to display selected records on one HTML page?

    Hi,
I would like to display selected part of records on one page in HTML region. For example I have a Master - Detail table set named Procedures and Tasks (each Procedure can have one or more tasks)
I would like to be able to display all Tasks for a given Procedure in one HTML region on a page... The problem is that the number of tasks vary between procedures and can change in time. Also, the 'task description' can be very large so a simple report list of all tasks is something I cannot use... (I would like eg for the task name to be here, and the task_description to be there - unlike the report where everything is in one line...) The following are my ideas but non of them seemed to be feasable here...
    1. Use a report based on vertical columns (However I am using Theme 10 for which there are no vertical column templates. The only vertical templates I can see are the default ones but I have no idea how to customize them - where are they?)
    2. In HTML region use &ITEM_NAME. substitutions. In order to display more than one &EMN_NAME. (based on eg. EMPID) I suspect that I would need to write some kind of javascript loop. Has anyone have an idea about how would such a script look like?
    3. Display each Task in a separate screen. This is something I would want least but better than nothing - to have a customized report which would display one task at a time with some kind of pagination to it...
Please let me know if someone has tried something simmilar or maybe there is a 4th option which will be simpler and easier...
    Many thanks,
    Pawel.
I tried to make a very simple illustration of what I would like to achive here:

Just to answer this one myself....
    In order to achive the above I used a PL/SQL Dynamic Content page and entered a html content in htp.prn('');
Then, I created a PL/SQL LOOP which searches through the various rows...
    In the end, whenever I wanted to display html content I just used htp.prn and for variables I used htp.p(<var_name>);
    Maybe, it helps ;)

  • RoboHelp 9 - What does WebHelp Search actually Search

I am using RoboHelp 9 and can't seem to find out what WebHelp Search actually searches. Will it search Word documents, PowerPoint or PDF documents that are included in the Project files?
Or does it only search for the keywords that I enter for that topic page that the file is linked to?
    Deb

    Hi Deb
A fair question. But we first need to clarify exactly what you mean by Search. I say this because sometimes folks talk about the Index as if it were Search. And indeed, they are two separate things.
With the Index, the help author specifies specific keywords by either typing them in manually or by asking RoboHelp to assist (by using the Smart Index Wizard) and the experience for the end user is this. They click the Index tab, then begin typing what they are looking for. As they type, a list of keywords is attempted to dynamically match what is being typed. Often, before they completely type the keyword it appears in the list and off they go.
On the other hand, with Search, the user types the search term in full, then clicks a Go button. At that point the search is performed and candidate files are returned. And yes, typically, Microsoft Word documents, Adobe PDF documents, Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and I believe even Microsoft PowerPoint documents will also be searched.
    Hope this helps... Rick

  • RoboHelp HTML 9 - CHM file Lost focus on selected topic on Content tab.

    Dear all,
In my generated CHM file, I click on a topic on the Content tab, then I click anywhere in the content displayed on the right pane. The selected topic on the Content tab then not highlighted anymore. Why it happens like that ?
Anyone please help me explain this case and guide me solve that problem.
    Thank a lot.
    P.

    Hi there
There are a couple of options you likely need to configure.
First, Click View > Pods > Project Set up and look at the Window properties for your CHM.
Note the options I've highlighted below:
Next, Click View > Pods > Single Source Layouts and right-click the Microsoft HTML Help layout.
Choose Properties and look at the Single Source Layout properties for your CHM file. Once you examine them, click the Edit button next to "Advanced Settings".
The HTML Help Advanced Settings dialog shoul open. Click the TOC Styles tab.
From there, ensure you have the option I've highlighted below.
    Hopefully this helps... Rick

  • Want to display selected rows of table in another table

    Hello all,
On jspx page their is quick query search component clcking on it popup gives result in table format
user can select multiple rows for this I have provided checkbox column which transit variable in my view..
now I want to display selected rows into another table
how I can achieve this functionality...

    Hi,
You can add the method in the AM, expose them as client interface. In the action listener of the button (of the popup where you are selecting the rows and clicking to continue), execute the method from AM.
    Sample,
    AM method
    public void filterMyTableRows(){
this.getMyViewObject().setWhereClause("transient_attribute='Y'");  // Change according to your view object name and transient attribute name
    this.getMyViewObject().executeQuery();
}In your actionListener, add something like
        public String commandButtonActionListener() {

  • RoboHelp 10 WebHelp search feature not working?

    Hi all,
I am using the Adobe Technical Communication Suite 4 and cannot get RoboHelp 10 to generate a WebHelp product with search capabilities.
I have created a RoboHelp 10 WebHelp project and imported FrameMaker 11 files.
Everything seems okay, but when I search in Internet Explorer 10, nothing happens.  I can even be on the same page as a term and enter the term in the box,
but then nothing happenns. I also tried:  Opera, Firefox, Chrome and Safari browsers and still no results in the WebHelp search results.
Actually, I get one word by default and that word is:  "null".
Any idea on what is causing this?  I have a deliverable due soon, and I need to get this search capability working.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
I am using the latest patch too - RoboHelp 10.0.0.287
    Regards,
    Jim

    Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the reply.  I am not sure if it is Java, although I did download Java to make sure I had the latest update.  I am running on a Windows 7 64 Bit Dell Laptop with Adobe TCS 4.
I just saw a different post - but related to this post on the topic and I think it has to do something with the XML files that are created during the normal generation process.
I have a feeling that there is something wrong with my XML files and the reason I say that is because I can generate one of the sample RoboHelp projects to WebHelp and then use IE 10 to search and the results
come up right away, but when I do a WebHelp generate on my project the search does not work.
    Here is that related thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/798369
Search Error: Failed to initialize database
    Mar 1, 2011 12:33 PM
That thread dealt with RoboHelp 8 and I am using RoboHelp 10, but I think the problem is probably the same.
    My questions are as follows:
I have a customer deliverable on Monday with several hundred files and a search mechanism that does not work at all.  Can I copy the search mechanism from the sample project and then put it into my project?
Are the XML files generic or specific to each project?
How many XML, Javascript and other RoboHelp type files are used to make the search functionality work?  I was thinking of populating one of those sample files, that has already been started with my files to see if that would get things going in the right direction - with the idea of removing all the sample files from that project and replacing them with my files, but, I have over 400 files, including references to foldout drawings and vendor manuals (baggage files) and it would probably take too much time to make that happen.
With that said, if you or anyone else has ideas on how I could get this search engine working, I would really, really appreciate it.
My current file structure is like this:
    Main Project Folder
        !ScreenLayout
        My Project File1
        My Project File2
        My Project File3
        resource
        whdata
        whgdata
        whxdata
        Frnt_Cov.htm
        Frnt_Cov_csh.htm
        Frnt_Cov_rhc.htm
All RoboHelp graphics, javascripts and .htm files
There does NOT seem to these folders that are in the sample:
    !Language!
    !SkinSubFolder!
    !SSL!
The !ScreenLayout! folder is the only one present.  Does this have anything to do with only having MultiScreen HTML5 and WebHelp (Primary Layout) for my project settings?
Again the most notable difference I see, is between the folders NOT included in my project (!Language!, !SkinSubFolder! and !SSL!).  I am not sure why these folders are not included in WebHelp.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, as well as for any suggestions that can be offered.  I really need to get the search feature working by tomorrow.
    Regards,
    Jim

  • Webhelp Search Reporting

Has anyone been able to successfully report on webhelp searching? I'm using Google Analytics, but I cannot get the Site Search analysis to work, which I assume is because my webhelp does not use Google search. I'm interested in see what peopel are searching for and bounce rate. Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to our community
When you examine the Single Source Layout recipe options, click the Navigation section on the left side of the dialog and examine the settings on the right side.
By chance do you have "Pure HTML" selected? If so, change to DHTML > Pure HTML and generate again.
Click the image below for larger and possibly clearer view.
