WebHelp Search Field

I know this is a long-shot question but since I have no idea how to go about fixing the issue involved, I figured I had to start somewhere.  It is for a help file published in WebHelp, and this is the bug I was given:
When you focus on the search box in help, it highlights the default text, "- Search -", and therefore when you start typing it removes it. It might be better to have it clear the text when focus is put on the text box.
-In Chrome it highlights the text: "- Search -" and then un-highlights that text, which isn't really how it should act.
I asked one of our developers about it and he said it had to be a RoboHelp problem, although I don't know where in RH I could fix any part of the GUI for the WebHelp window.  Does anyone have any ideas on this?

You are seeing the ActiveX warning (otherwise known as the Yellow Information Bar) because you are viewing the content in Microsoft Internet Explorer and you the content is being viewed from your local C drive.
Although WebHelp works when viewed from your local C drive, it's really intended to be viewed from a web server. Once you view it from a web server there is no issue with ActiveX as you are in a different security zone.
If you don't wish to deal with the Yellow Information Bar, you should consider enabling the Mark of the Web feature in your Single Source Layout recipe.

  • RH9 Webhelp Search function is not working properly

    Hi,
    My organization is using RH9 for a Webhelp project.  My company and our client are restricted to using IE9 for the online help I have created for this project, and our OS environment is Windows 7.  When I generate using the Webhelp layout, with the TOC, Index and Search options chosen, my resulting browser window shows two frames.  Left for the Contents/Index/Search and right for the content.  In the left panel, there are three links at the top for Contents, Index and Search.  When I click on the Search link, the only thing I see is the alphabet A-Z (which are links to filter items beginning with these letters (much like the index link) and a list of what I would say is garbage.  For example, if I click on H, I see items like "half 1 2 3" or "held" or "honor # 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8", etc.  If I run my cursor down this list, I notice that maybe the word honor is a link.  If clicked it brings up one of my topic pages.  I can also click on the random numbers that appear, like clicking on 3 it brings up another topic page.  The search function does not allow me to type in a search criteria, since there is no search field as well.
    Do you have any suggestions for this issue?  Is this a bug, or do I need to change settings somewhere within RH9?  The same thing is happening when using this help project that is running on our clients server.  Is there any suggestion you can give to try and make this work properly?

    Rick,  Thanks for stepping in.    I assumed that was the reason why I was not receiving the search field, and that is fine for now.  We have discussed with our client the possibility of having two different help projects one for each, but that decision was kind of put on the back burner.
    However, the other issue I am having is still there and I don't quite understand why.  Since I only have clickable A-Zs for the search, and it lists links much like the Index section, I'm still seeing lists of just numbers and characters (i.e., "# 1 2 3 4 5", or "%" or "& 1 2 3 4 5" sometimes all the way up to 18 or so).  And each of these characters or numbers are clickable links as well to either page that doesn't contain that number or to nothing.
    Doing a bit more research, I have noticed that a lot of these links are being picked up by the PDF file we have as part of the project.  Our help project has a link to the documented version of the help in the form of a User Guide.pdf file.  So the search is listing items from that guide like the heading numbers 1.0, 1.0.1, etc.  Also each of these are clickable links that go nowhere.  But then there is still the numbers 1, 2, etc that go to pages that don't have this anywhere on the page.
    Do you have any insight as to why these types of things are being listed under Search at all?  They make that selection look very messy and unorganized.  Not professional at all.  I have checked and tested the properties settings and can't seem to find what is causing this to happen.  Any idea would be most appreciated!!

  • RHTML 8 WebHelp Search in Chrome not working

    We are running RoboHTML 8, with output to WebHelp. The project does include PDF files. I mention
    this because of other Discussions I've read looking for a solution.
    The output is delivered to customers in a WAR and it serves just fine from the server in IE, FireFox,
    and, even though technically not supported, in Chrome. However, in Chrome, while the TOC and Index
    are ok, Search does not work from the server. (I did notice repainting issues when selecting multiple
    entries in succession in the Index - as noted in another Discussion.)
    What I mean by "does not work" is that when I type in a word ("expression", for example) and click Search, nothing happens.
    The Search field is highlighted in a thin red line, so perhaps it is related to a security issue?
    I have used Peter Grainge's Snippet to run the help output locally in Chrome and it runs fine. However,
    Search does not work in Chrome when running the help locally.
    I tried deleting the CPD and then opening the project and regenerating, but that did not
    make any difference.
    I saw another Post that said to try RH 10, but our manager said that upgrading is
    not a first choice if another way to fix can be found.
    Can anyone help please? 

    Always difficult to answer when the question is phrased as you have put it. Rh9 and 10 are supported for Chrome and searching does work. It is always possible that something in your project or environment may cause a problem so no one will say for sure it will work. It should but the only sure way is to download the trial and check it out.

    In addition to this, we also put the trace on the application. During the trace analysis we found that the RFC: HRXSS_CAT_WD_F4_SELFLD_DEFAULT doesn't seem to get called.
    Not sure what could be the issue.

  • Issue with custom search fields in agent inbox

    Hi All,
    I am working on CRM agent inbox 7.0. The issue I am facing is like this:
    I have added custom search fields in inbox. When give a combination of standard search field and custom search field, the result is only based on standard field. The value of custom field is not considered.
    Is this a standard behaviour? Are standard fields given higher priority that custom fields?
    Any pointers on this would be highly helpful.

    Did you add custom field using AET? If yes then while adding custom field using AET did you make it search and result relevant?
    There is nothing like priority in standard SAP fields and custom fields.

  • How to set focus on specific search field in FPM's search guibb?

    Is there any way to set the input focus to a specifc search field in an FPM's search guibb? I found that there is a godd way for forms by using the IO_EXTENDED_CTRL object in the GET_DATA function. But it seems that there is no corresponding way to do for search forms. Any other idea?

    Hello Venkatesh. Yes that code does work. First I tried it on a table cell that was already rendered and it did work. The next time I tried it on a table row that was being added and it did not work there. So I added an on after rendering function for the table and added that code there. That did not work until I added a delay (timeout) to do a context switch before calling the focus and that worked.
    Once last thing though sometimes when I call focus on an input field (actually in a table row cell) if the field has text in it already the flashing cursor is at the beginning of the text and other times it is at the end of the text (which is the desired way). It depends on where I click in the row. Is there anyway to make sure the flashing cursor is at the end of the text when the focus is applied to a field that contains text?

  • Suddenly can't enter anything in some blank search fields, dropdowns not working, and javascript popups freeze randomly. WTH?

    I noticed a few random things not working on my computer in the last month or so, and I tried everything I can think of to figure out what it is...still haven't figured it out yet. Some examples - I was on ebay, and the tracking number I clicked on from the "My ebay" page popped open a javascript window, but then froze the page so I had to close the whole tab. Then on Grooveshark, the main page comes up, but if I type anything in the search field, I can see what I'm typing, but at the same time, I can still see their default search message. If I try to enter something and hit search, it just gives me the warning that I'm being asked if I want to leave the page, it never searches. There are a few other times I can think of that I tried to use a dropdown menu, and they don't always work - they just look like they're being clicked, but nothing shows. Also not sure if this is related or not, but it bears mentioning - I tried to install Freecorder, and even though I tried both the toolbar and just the button for installation options, it doesn't show up for me to use it, and that's with adblock plus disabled. Also not positive my last update of Adobe Flash took, even though I downloaded it.
    I have adblock plus, but I've had that for years now, and it's never caused a problem or stopped me from seeing anything I actually wanted to see. My system was pretty bada** before this, and it's frustrating that suddenly I can't go everywhere and do everything I could before. Why is it doing this, and can I fix it??

    Meh...if I had started here instead of trying to research this randomly, I would have fixed the problem weeks ago. I just did a Firefox reset, and tried all the things I mentioned in the OP, and it all seems to work fine now. Well, aside from Freecorder, but I can make that work another way, I guess. Anyway, Firefox reset = solution. Yay!

    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
    Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
    Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. 
    When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
    Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
    Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
    Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

    Yes, you can do something like that. What you would do is create a button for each image and then hide them. When I do this type of thing I place all of the buttons on a template page and then hide the template.
    You can then use JavaScript to copy the icon from any of the hidden buttons to the main button that you've set up to display the image. For example, suppose you set up 10 buttons named b1, b2, b3, ...b10. The code to copy the icon from one of them to the button used to display the image (b0) would be something like this:

    // Get  reference to the b0 button
    var f = getField("b0");
    // Set the icon of the b0 button to the icon retrieved from the hidden button
