Webloc icon blank on desktop only

Since updating to the release build of Yosemite my webloc (that is an icon for a Web site address) icons are blank.
Prior to that they all had the Safari style icon with WEBLOC on them.  The icons are normal in all other folders I have checked in the Finder.
I tried to fix this problem by changing the "Open With" section in Get Info. Still the white icons on my Desktop.
It isn't the worst bug ever but it irks me and it is weird.

Hi,
I am having the same issue.
But anywhere I drag desktop or any folders all my safari links went blank. And made all old links that were pulled go blank just not new links.
I think it had something to do with an App I installed? Or the last update.
But I did notice if I use Chrome or FireFox The weblog image does appear. So it's only related to pulling the link from Safari.
I also tried repair disk and PRAM and still nothing?
I am hoping the next update fixes this.

  • How keep URL in Dock without a webloc icon on the Desktop?

The instructions in the article cited below explain +how to put a URL in the Dock+.
For browsers which don't support simple 'drag and drop' it's noted that the URL can be dropped onto the Desktop and then dragged from there onto the Dock.
That works in, e.g., Firefox. However, when I then trash the Desktop icon the Dock item no longer works.
*How does one keep the URL in the Dock but remove it from the Desktop?*
    Thanks.

Create a new Folder called URLs, drag that to the Doc between Applications and Trash.
Open that folder on the Desktop, now drag all your desired urls to that folder instead of the desktop.
Now, instead of clicking on the URL in the Dock, click on the URLs folder, hold a bit, you've got a popup menu of urls.
I see the value of what you're suggesting, but if I understand it correctly it's primarily a way of saving space while having access to multiple URLs from the Dock.
Doesn't it still require the user to keep that URLs folder on the Desktop?
What I was looking for was a way to have the URL (or folder of URLs) in the Dock without also having an icon for it on the Desktop.

  • How do I DISABLE icon previews of PDF's on the Desktop only? Windows 7

    Acrobat Pro XI
    Windows 7 Professional
My desktop icons USED to show only the standard PDF icons, now I have a MIX of them - some are previews (which I dislike) and some are standard.
I've searched for hours and had zero success.  I tried changing just the desktop folder view, as suggested in another thread.  However, this is a global thing (Microsoft told me), so that one is washed out.
I really dislike the previews and would prefer the icons but only on the desktop!
Is there some way of doing this without having to follow some 15-step process or downloading some third-party program?
I do NOT have, nor would I want to, have reader on my system (as some had suggested in another thread), since I use the full version.
    Any ideas??

    Thanks Thom,
Apparently this is an issue with the Chrome browser.  When I switched to Firefox (using Adobe X) I was able to view the PDF as I am accustomed - without the extra download box appearing.
Whether the file is technically downloaded or not is not so much the issue as the work flow and dislplay.
To be clear, when using Chrome browser and Adobe X - when I click a PDF link the file downloads at bottom of screen prompting me to save or discard.  Then another click to view.  Also, my downloads get filled up with a huge repetitive list and also chewing up memory.  Apparently Chrome does this for security reasons.
When using Chrome (perhaps an older version) and Adobe 9, when I would click a PDF link it would display immediately in the browser - No download box - no extra click - and since the PDFs did not appear on my download list I assumed they were not downloading.  Again, whether the technically are or not is not my concern.  I have to view hundreds of data sheets per week and a one click - immediate view - no cluttering of download list is what I'm trying to achieve as I'd had before.
Now, when using Adobe X on Firefox, it works as it used to - one click - immediate browser display.  So that's why I said it must due to Chrome's way of handling the PDFs via Adobe's reader.
On a side note, after reading some security bulletins I see that Adobe 9 is now considered a significant risk for malware writers so I'm going to have to keep X.  Personally I'm not thrilled with the layout of X - the floating ghost toolbar and no trace of the traditional layout.  Why they see fit to compulsively change the look I haven't a clue.  IMO the older one was much more sensible and easy to navigate.  I'll take function over features.
    Thanks again.

  • Why is my firefox icon not showing it only show blank icon

Why is my Firefox icon is blank. on desktop
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

The file IconCache.db maybe hidden on Windows 7.
You should also be able to use the %LocalAppData% environment variable instead of %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders
Go to: Control Panel > Folder Options > "View" tab > under "Hidden files and folders", select "Show hidden files and folders".
You may want to un-check the box "Hide extensions for known file types" to see the file extensions of all files.

  • Blank webloc icons after updating to 10.8.3

Has anyone else have their webloc icons turn to white instead of the @ icon after the latest update? I have a lot of urls dragged to my desktop that are now white icons. I checked my old ones that I have in folders and they turned white also.

YES!!! EXACTLY THE SAME!!   I started a post and mentioned it in another--- then I found yours by googling --- this is really amazing!  I have a bunch of other Finder Window issues, and thought this was maybe just me but I've had others say it is EVERYONE--
They still seem to function but I sure am glad my other icons have retained their "logo"--- imagine if they all disappeared!  I really enjoy using Icon mode in the Finder----
If you find out more, please post.
    Thanks.

  • Firefox V37.01 is not creating a shortcut icon on Desktop only a default icon

This make life difficult identifying urls

Hi, try this: Right click on the Desktop icon > Delete. Now open the Start Menu > All Programs, right click on Mozilla Firefox > Send to > Desktop (create shortcut). There should now be a Firefox icon on the Desktop.
If your question has been resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know.

  • No icons in lion desktop

I just installed Lion (10.7.2) and when I reboot, my desktop icons do not appear until I click on the Finder icon.
    What's the deal.
    Thanks,
    Barry

The dock is populated, the top strip is populated, but the desktop is blank ... only the wallpaper is displayed.
When I click on the Finder icon on the dock, the folders, disk drives, etc.. appear on the desktop.
I must be missing a configuration item ???
Of there is a bug in Lion?
    Thanks for the response,

  • How do I get rid of the iDisk icon from my desktop?

I just got a new MacBook Pro 17" with the latest version of Snow Leopard. My local hard drive icon was missing but thankfully I figured out how to get that back. However, I also have the blue iDisk icon on my desktop for which I have no use. How do I get rid of that icon? I trying ejecting it (Command-E) but to no avail.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
    Randy

The same thing happened to me, and I finally found the answer. I thought I'd post in case others had the same problem:
Snow Leopard has a new setting under System Preferences > MobileMe within the "iDisk" tab: there's a feature now called "iDisk Sync" that lets you create a virtual "DropBox" from your iDisk if this feature is turned on -- disabling it as a internet only drive.
If you turn this feature off, however, your iDisk will work as expected and allow you to mount / eject it.
    Hope this helps!

  • Just bought a nano and want to download some of my iTunes library. The "Music" button shows almost all my selections but some albums are missing, yet thos albums appear on the nano icon on my desktop but none of the others. What's happening?

Just bought a nano and want to download some of my iTunes library. The "Music" button shows almost all my selections but some albums are missing, yet ONLY those albums appear on the nano icon on my desktop after being dragged there but none of the others. What's happening?
I've read some of the post here that I thought might help but they refer to titles (Music) and triangles in the "Devices" window which are nowhere to be seen when I open the "Devices" window.
I have iTunes 11.0.3 and Mac OS 10.6.8. Does this make a difference?

I should mention that, for the first problem, I do make sure that my new tracks are stored in the folder where I told iTunes that my music is in. Also, when I say the cataloging of my library stops short of cataloging all my songs, I have tried leaving the computer unattended for days (my computer's sleep mode is disabled). It always stops before cataloging all of my music regardless of whether I am doing something else while iTunes is cataloging, or if I just let iTunes be the only program that's open during the cataloging process.

  • I installed the latest version of Firefox (7.0.1) on my Windows XP desktop and the install placed 3 firefox icons on my desktop: none of them work and none of them can be deleted(!)

In properties it says they are not valid shortcuts; when I try to delete it says "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk" what to do.... Is it possible to go back to a previous version? I was so happy with the previous version - I only installed the latest version because I was in Dreamweaver (the first time literally in years) and I wanted to view an .htm file in firefox, and when I selected that option, firefox automatically did a bunch of stuff I don't understand, but it seemed to me that what happened automatically was that a beta version of Firefox was installed, and I was prompted to select Firefox as the default browser (it has been my default browser forever, not sure how it was all of a sudden not my default browser)... anyway I thought that I could rid myself of the beta version and return to normalacy if I installed the latest version. Now I have these three invalid icons to deal with. Any help you can offer will be very much appreciated. It would make me very happy if I could delete the invalid icons from my desktop, or at least hide them from view somehow. I created a folder on the desktop, and tried to put them into it, but that didn't work.

  • When I click on an Icon on my desktop to take me to a site (such as google) I get a message that it could not find the loaction. Then it goes ahead and opens a Firefox window with the site anyway as if the message never happened.

When I click on an Icon on my desktop to take me to a site (such as Google) I get a message that it could not find the location. Then it goes ahead and opens a Firefox window with the site anyway as if the message never happened. Then when I close the window I see that the message is still there. I have to close it separately. Any suggestions? Oh, and this only happens if Firefox is NOT already active. If I have another Firefox window open when I click on the Icon, it just opens as expected. This message appears no matter which site Icon I select. It did not happen before I upgraded to ver 9.0.

    Hello BassoonPlayer,
Since you are using one of the the school's Macbooks, it is quite possible that the time and date are not properly set on the computer that you are using.  FaceTime will not work if you do not have the proper time zone set up for the location that you are in.  This past week, there were a two other Macbook users I've helped by simply telling them to set the Date/Time properly.  By the way, you described your problem very well, which makes it easier for us to help you.  Hope this solves your problem -- if not, post back and I can suggest other remedies.

When i select the "Full Screen" option in video streams (like youtube, veoh, anything like that) i can do that one(1) time second(2nd) time the screen goes blank and can only exit it with the escape(Esc) button and then i have to restart firefox and again i have my one "Full-screen Ticket"

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.
