has anyone had any success installing/using weblogic 5.1 service pack 12 on SGI IRIX
6.5 and if so what steps/how did you install and configure your weblogic instance.
we are using the latest IRIX java 1.3.1 jdk and oracle 8.1.6 on an R10k Octane.
any help appreciated.
I will file a CR to update the license file in the kit.

Struts tag problems in weblogic 5.1 sp12
Hello,
I am deploying a struts application in weblogic 5.1 sp 12. When I load any jsp

Hi Rob, thanks for your reply.
It looks like I replied to myself instead of to the group. In general, yes,
it was the classpath issue you're pointing towards. The service pack jar
files had to be at the beginning of the classpath.
That I kinda knew however I was getting confused by another error I was
getting when I did eventually move the service pack files to the right
place. I didn't know that the \persistense\WebLogic_RDBMS.jar file was not
present in the classpath.

Looks like a classpath issue.
Does it work if you invoke ejbc from a shell? If so, can you compare
the classpath settings it's using vs JBuilder.
In particular, I'd guess that some of the service pack jar files are not
being correctly picked up by JBuilder.

We are running our Web application on Weblogic 5.1 SP12. A security company just
audited our web application using its own tool and produced a report that stated
the following:
1. URL Trickery may be used to list server directories thus revealing sensitive
files. I learned that this problem was fixed in Weblogic server after version
5.1 SP8. I just wanted to make sure that is the case because I heard from another
source that it wasn't until version 6.1. If the latter is right then we have
a problem.
2. A Hacker may be able to use "Forceful Browsing" and "Forceful Browsing by Direcotry
Guessing" to gain access to restricted site content.
3. Parameter Tampering can be used by a hacker by setting a param value out of
the expected value range or changing that value to one beyond its designated range.
4. Cross site scripting (Standard Variants) can be used whereby customer session
and cookies are compromised thereby allowing the attackerto pose as a legitimate
user to view, alter records, or perfrom transactions as that user.
The question is: are still issues in 5.1 SP12? If not, can we provide a proof
of that? If any of those is then what is the workaround/solution/patch required?
Thanks

Sammii don't believe some of these issues are necessarily Weblogic issues.
1 and 2) You should be able to setup error pages such that
weblogic.httpd.errorPage.xxx=whatever.html
3 and 4) These are really application architecture and design issues. Eg. If I
were to setup a parameter in the URL, anyone can change it and the page can display
different results. And, the issue with the cookies, again an application issue
as I do not know what you are storing in the local cookies file. -
How to use jsp in weblogic 5.1
Hi all,
We have PeopleSoft application running on
Weblogic 5.1 SP12.
How do we use JSP files in this weblogic version ?
We are trying to use a custom jsp file.
Quick help is much appreciated..
Thanks
MaddyWebLogic 8.1 supports JSP 1.2, which doesn't natively implement the JSTL or the expression language. If you download the Jakarta Taglibs implementation of the JSTL (for JSP 1.2, not JSP 2.0), then you can use the JSTL taglib as a normal taglib. Note that this doesn't give you the ability to use the other JSP 2.0 tag features, like using the expression language in body content.
Make sure that you use the uri value specified in the tld that you're using. I believe the values are different between the JSP 1.2 and JSP 2.0 versions. -
Weblogic class corresponding to HTTPSession

If getResultSet() returns a non-null, and the first thing yo do afterwards is call rs.next()
it shouldn't throw an exception. Download our latest driver from our site, and make sure it's
ahead of all our server stuff in the weblogic.classpath, by editing the startWeblogic script.

Getting servlet class corresponding to jsp?
Hi,
I'm running WebLogic 5.1, sp12 for Solaris. I was wondering if
someone could provide me with a small snippet of java code that would
tell me the class name, or at least path to the servlet class that
corresponds to a jsp page. So, for example, if I knew my jsp path was
/mypath/http/myapp/dummy.jsp
it would be great to get the class name which, in this example, might
be:
jsp_servlet._myapp.__dummy
Thanks in advance, Dave A.
Programmatically, I don't know of a way to do that in java.

I have contacted BEA and they seem to think that there may be a deep recurision in the application's authetication/login/error JSP pages that may be causing this. What is really interesting is that the last thing we see in our logs before the core dump is user authethication. We will see the 1.3.1_03-b03 mixed mode and we will see 1.3.1-b24 mixed mode for the JVM versions. I am wondering if Weblogic or other Web Application Servers use an embedded JVM atleast for Security or authetication that may be the issue. Please feel free to contact me at [email protected] if you have any information. -
Abnormal server crashes: no information provided concerning the crash
Hi,
I got a WLS5.1 SP9 server running on solaris 2.6 with JDK 1.2.2
A "classical" web application is deployed on this server
The problem is that sometimes (and not in a regular way) the server crashes without
providing any exception nor error message: it just crashes as if it was killed,
and I'm sure nobody killed it. I currently trace the memory using the -verbose:gc
option to ensure that it's not a memory problem, and every time the server crashes,
there's still enough space in the heap.
Any idea of what could be the problem, or how to know what's could be the reason?
Thanks in advance,
Cheers,

We also tried to add logs with
-verbose:gc
-verbose:jni
-verbose:class
to see if any JNI or specific class call could bring the problem but
nothing interesting was found int the logs.
We used the "truss" command on the Java process but unlucky, the process
never crash when truss is launched (I think it slowers too much the JVM).

Hi,
I got a WLS5.1 SP9 server running on solaris 2.6 with JDK 1.2.2
A "classical" web application is deployed on this server
The problem is that sometimes (and not in a regular way) the servercrashes without
providing any exception nor error message: it just crashes as if it waskilled,
and I'm sure nobody killed it. I currently trace the memory usingthe -verbose:gc
option to ensure that it's not a memory problem, and every time the servercrashes,
there's still enough space in the heap.
Any idea of what could be the problem, or how to know what's could be thereason?

Thanks in advance,

Hi everyone,
Recently, my peers have found a mystery servlet on our WebLogic 5.1 sp12 Sparc
Solaris 8.
Web applications are configured in weblogic.properties. If you were to type any
words that
start with "admin", case insensitive, the server will reply with a prompt on our
browser. I have
scan through the web.xml and weblogic.properties to no avail.
Eg. http://webserver:7001/administ or
http://webserver:7001/ADMINIST
Please help if you know what's gone wrong. Thanks in advance
Cheers,
Tony.
Yes. Any word starts with admin will prompt for a authentication box.

Hi,
I'm running WebLogic 5.1 sp12 with an Apache 1.3.27 web server.
Apache sets an environment variable ('REDIRECT_URL') upon occurence of
a 40x error. How do I access such an environment variable from my jsp
page? Thanks - Dave

NullPointerException with RMI-IIOP when throw a Exception
Hi all,
I have a ejb deployed in weblogic 5.1 sp12. I have a client in another weblogic
5.1 sp11 that connects to the ejb using the protocol iiop.
ctx = new javax.naming.InitialContext();
prop = new Properties();
prop.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,"weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory");
provider="iiop://remote-machine:7001";
prop.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL,provider);
All works ok, but when my ejb throws and exception (UserNotFoundException),
in the client I catch a NullPointeException (see StackTrace).
If I use the t3 protocol, all works all right. I catch UserNotFoundException.
My exception, UserNotFoundException extends java.lang.Exception.
What is the problem?
StackTrace:

Thanks a lot,
DiegoWe have updated all weblogic to WLS5.1 SP12 with a jdk1.3.1.
Now the problem is that the client can't conect to the server.
If i use protocol iiop Never works. (stack trace).
If i use t3 all works ok.
But the best is that, if my server is a WL5.1 SP12 and the client is a WLS6.1
SP2 using the iiop protocol all works ok.
If i use t3, nothing works.

The NPE is because codebases are not supported in WLS 5.1 or 6.1 IIOP
(they are in 7.0) and you are trying to serialize a class that has
changed between the client and server. You might want to try fixing
the SVUID on your exception in both client and server and seeing if
that helps. Also you should really use SP12 in the client if you
can. Also make sure you are using the same JDK version in client and
server.

Thanks, DaveAre you trying to set run WLS below port no's 1024?
If yes have you set the properties to switch from root user
upon server startup? If yes make sure you have specified
a valid user in your properties file.
