Weblogic 6.1 SP2 startup and disk thrashing

Each time I startup Weblogic 6.1 SP2 on Windows XP the disk thrashes for quite some
time. It's very intensive disk activity.
Anyone know what is going on?

Hi.
Pls see my reply in the install newsgroup.
Regards,
Michael

  • [MBA original] startup and disk problems

My old faithful Air has started to have some serious problems.
A couple of months ago, it started to behave sluggishly, beachballing in all applications, and then when I tried to restart, it wouldn't get past the logo/catherine wheel screen. I could get it to boot into Lion Recovery, where disk utility said that the disk could not be repaired. At this point I zeroed the disk (level one secure erase), restored from my Time Machine backup, and was up and running again - for a couple of days. Then the same symptoms recurred again, with the same results.
I began to suspect a failing hard drive, and had it replaced with a new one.
The Air worked fine since then, until a couple of days ago, when the sluggishness and beachballing recurred, followed by failure to start up. Again, I booted into Lion recovery, and ran Disk Utility again. This time it found many many problems with missing catalog entries, invalid nodes etc, and told me the disk could not be repaired. Once again I erased it (the new disk this time) and restored from a back. Last night, the symptoms recurred again. This time, though, when I got into Disk Repair, it found a similar list of errors, and it claimed to have repaired the disk (green status), but still it would not restart. I tried starting in safe mode, and the progress bar got about 1/3 of the way across, then disappeared and the machine would not start up. I tried starting with the D key held down but couldn't get hardware diagnostics running.
I'm beginning to suspect sofware causing disk issues rather than the disk itself, so I tried performing a clean install of Lion from Recovery. The machine started up OK after the clean install, (with my user account and files still intact, which suprised me - I was expecting to have to use Migration Assistant to get them back). At this point, I plugged in my Western Digital USB drive into the Air and copied all my documents and files onto it, in case I need to get at them without using the Time Machine backup. Then I shut the machine down.
This morning it has started up OK again, and I'm typing this on it right now.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any advice if you managed to fix it permamently?
Is it possible to run the hardware diagnostic from the original install disks for the Air system software? _Should_ I be able to get to hardware diagnostics by holding down D on startup on this model? If I've got Lion up to date installed, can I get to the internet version of hardware diagnostics via Lion Recovery, like on newer Airs?
If it happens again, my last ditch effort is going to be zeroing the disk, doing a clean Lion install on the erased disk, then just copying back my documents and reinstalling key applications (Office, Photoshop) from the original install disks/images. Does that sound like a sensible approach?
Otherwise, I'll have to try and talk my boss into letting me get a new one!
    best regards,
    Matt

If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will
need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk
    Warrior
DU can't repair and I got these errors:
    "Invalid B-tree node size"
"Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972)"
DU didn't show the SMART status. But I saw it in Disk Warrior and it said the disk was ok.
I tried Disk Warrior and it's just be stuck at the same place. This never goes away and so I just killed it:
    "Rebuilding directory ...
Step 5: Locating directory data ..."
In DU when I highlight disk0s3, I get this in the lower left hand corner:
    "Mount Point: not mounted"
So maybe I just need to re-mount disk0s3?
    Anymore ideas, guys? Thanks.

  • Can't find hard drive at startup and disk utility!

Please help! When i try to start up my mac, i get a clicking noise...once it does this it goes to the flashing folder icon with the question mark. I have done all the reboots, holding down shift, the alt and command with p and r. I have inserted the startup disk and when i try to start up, it cant find a location and the only options in the disk utility is the cd!
This has happened twice before and its managed to come back to life with everything intact. This time i have tried everything and nothing is happening.
I have got as far as being able to get into the installer menu with the CD, but with no hard drive being found i am stuck!
Hope someone can help me, i love my mac!
    thank you!

But, since it's an iSight, you'd do well to take it in for the drive replacement, it's not an easy task on iSights. But here's a [link|http://www.jimwarholic.com/2008/07/how-to-repair-apple-imac-g5.php] to some instructions.

  • How to use call back and user session id based conversation with web service in weblogic 6.1 sp2 ?????????

    Hi, every one:
Here's my question of my day - >>>
I am using weblogic 6.1 SP2 right now - running on Unix and Win 2K, and
I got a web service up and running called Price Update web service through
which user can pick up a price and push a deal to another web service
called: deal service, the deal service will take the user deal and book the
deal ( sending a JMS message to a Queue, a MD will pick up and do the work,
then send the confirmation to another JMS Queue ), then the confirmation
will be picked up and sent to another web service , called: User Deal
    Confirmation Service, here's the question:
    1. Since the client application is only allowed to see its own confirmed
deals, how I can make the confirmed deal encrypted based on a server
generated key or the session id that client application provides
    2. Now, I have 3 webservices: update, deal and confirm, each of them has a
client.jar file available - from the client application point of view, do I
need all these 3 client.jar, or I just need one of them ?????
    3. How can I use web service call back in wls 6.1 sp2 ?????? - in the 7.0
beta, you can do this easily in the workshop, in the second question above,
I think I need some how relate the confirmation to the client conversation
    id ??
thanks a lot for the input, have a nice day.
    regards,

    Any comments ?

  • My iMac goes to disc utilities on startup, repair disk doesn't cure it and I can't reinstall Mountain Lion because I don't remember my I'd and password at the time I bought the software. Currently working abroad and at a loss can anyone help please?

My iMac goes to disc utilities on startup, repair disk doesn't cure it and I can't reinstall Mountain Lion because I don't remember my ID and password at the time I bought the software the system isn't accepting my current details and Apple isn't recognising the answers to my security questions.  They don't even seem to have my correc date of birth so I can't progress the reinstallation.  I'm currently abroad and have my iMac with me but with no way of contacting Apple that I can find, I'm at a loss and very reluctant to pay £35 to try and get my ID and pasword sorted out given that their system recognises my current details.  can anyone help please?
    AG

when they gifted me the mountain Lion software several years ago.
Mountain Lion was introduced in July 2012. Did the people who gifted you possibly use their Apple ID for the purchase of your OS? If you used your own Apple ID, you should have simply used the one you use for all things app store. The problem with any purchase at the app store is: whatever Apple ID was used to purchase, it willl stay tied to that Apple ID forever. And, purchases from the app store are not transferable.
So, you can check with the person(s) who gifted you or spend $20 to buy it - or, if your hardware is compatible with the new OS Mavericks, you could download it and associate it with your Apple ID.
FWIW, according to the licensing agreement, the OS remains the property of Apple and you are only granted a license to run it.

  • JSP compiler in Weblogic 7.1 SP2 and Weblogic 8.1

I have a web application (JSp and Servlets are generated) that loads fine with

    Hi,
Generally this type of exception raised by a class or the serialization runtime when a class may not be serialized. The argument should be the name of the class.
You might be forgot to implement the serializable interface for the class in struts frame work.
    check it properly.

  • Optical drive tries to find a disk at startup and when getting out of sleep

I don't think it's a macbook only problem. I had tried to install photoshop but at a certain point, the computer freezes and I had to shutdown. When I startup, it freezes after five seconds when loading up everything everytime, but the mouse still moves. I finally found out about the safe mode so I solved my inability to work with my macbook.
The problem I have now is that everytime I startup the computer, it wants to find a disk in the optical drive. It only does it once but it does it everytime I startup and also coming out of sleep, any suggestions?

Is the system process to look the optical drive that bad, I mean like sound wise, was it horrible, and what about the time consuming when it look for something in the drive, was it a couple second or it took forever with the beachball rolling. And was it like that since you have it or it just happen after you installed photoshop and freeze.
If it just like couple second, I assume it just default setting from PRAM that instruct optical drive everytime you start up or wake up from sleep to check is there something inside the optical drive that need to be read or spit it out or it could be the lens adjusted/calibrated itself, but I could be wrong on this.
But if it to annoying and you suspect a mal-production, better bring that to apple store and show them and consult with them, probably you will get a better one that is not a mal-production.
    Hope this help.

  • Disk Thrashing At Startup

    Hey all,
Wondering if anybody's had something like this before... I'm getting a huge amount of disk thrashing that goes on when I boot - it takes almost 6 minutes for my hard disk to settle down after a boot, and system monitor shows almost 10MB/s of disk activity, constantly, during that time.
This is really killing my boot times - the OS will give me my login screen within seconds of boot, but it takes some 5 minutes after I clear the login screen before my machine is even usable!
I've tried to track down the culprit responsible, but activity monitor shows CPU usage, but not disk usage, by process.
This isn't a problem with lack of RAM, I have a full 2GB. I've patched everything up to the latest version, and even installed a fresh copy of Leopard (wipe + install), this problem is still here.
I use a few Macs at work, all running Leopard, and all are incredibly snappy at boot, I wonder why mine is being so slow?
    Thanks for any insight.

I've had this very same problem for some time and am equally perplexed. It "might" have something to do with my use of Entourage, which seems to have a memory leak, eventually eating up all available RAM. I just restarted after having to force quit Entourage - that caused a very long thrashing.
There should be a utility that could be used to say what is happening!

  • JSF and weblogic 8.1 sp2??  Please help!

    Hello All -
We are part of a small team here in SF at a biotech company... they have given us the green light to use JSF on a small project.
Only problem is that we must deploy to Weblogic 8.1 SP2 & I can't get JSF to work on Weblogic 8.1 SP2.
I get strange errors -- an inability to control navigation. The simple "hello world" app that comes with the Manning book "Javaserver faces in Action" does not work on WL 8.1 SP2. It does however work on Tomcat.
I have even written a hack servlet that starts the listener manually that is needed for JSF to work. (http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=499690&start=15&tstart=30)
Any ideas on this? We are getting desperate with a deadline looming Thursday. Want to make this work & not have to go back to Struts.
One blog I saw said that what is needed is a Weblogic patch. Anyone know anything about this? (http://jroller.com/page/RickHigh/20040929)
    Thank you-
    Matt

I'm trying to get a JSF web app I have working on
tomcat ported to weblogic 8.1 sp2.
When I deploy the webapp I get the following
    exception.
I get the same exception when I try to deploy the JSF
sample cardemo.war. (I've tried both JSF1.0 and JSF
1.1, both result in the same error).Hello Kieth,
Have you considered this content from the README:
    * Some web containers (Notably BEA WebLogic Server) don't follow the
JSP 1.2 Spec rule of calling ServletContextListeners listeners defined
in tld files in the META-INF directory of a jar. Running a faces
webapp in such a container requires you to manually declare the
ServletContextListener. The listener-class you need to specify is
    com.sun.faces.config.ConfigureListener

Any help with this? Do I need Weblogic 8.1 SP4?

    hi,
    0. Check WLS classpath in startWeblogic.{cmd.sh} for JSF jars
    1. Check your web.xml with section conserning FacesServlet
    it shoul look like:
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>javax.faces.webapp.FacesServlet</servlet-class>
    <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>
    </servlet>
    2. Try to find any other servlet and look at its <load-on-startup> section.
Final Java Servlet Specification Ver. 2.4 page 127:
" The load-on-startup element indicates that this
servlet should be loaded (instantiated and have
its init() called) on the startup of the web
application. The optional contents of these
element must be an integer indicating the order in
which the servlet should be loaded. If the value
is a negative integer, or the element is not
present, the container is free to load the servlet
whenever it chooses. If the value is a positive
integer or 0, the container must load and
initialize the servlet as the application is
deployed. The container must guarantee that
servlets marked with lower integers are loaded
before servlets marked with higher integers. The
container may choose the order of loading of
servlets with the same load-on-start-up value "
    Kind regards,

  • Error deploying Struts 1.1 on weblogic 6.1 sp2

    Hello,
I am trying to deploy the struts-documentation.war that comes with struts 1.1
    on weblogic 6.1 sp2.
    I already have xerces.jar , xalan.jar and crimson.jar in WEB-INF/lib. I have also
tired giving the files in the weblogic classpath.
It does not deploy the application and it gives the following error:

I'm also running Weblogic 6.1 SP2 and getting a very similar error during startup when trying to deploy JSTL (Apache's version 1.0.6 from here http://jakarta.apache.org/taglibs/) in an exploded application that starts up fine if I remove the JSTL jars from WEB-INF/lib.

  • Server startup and initialization class

i have a swing based (non-webbased) application and i want to perform some initializations during server start up.
how can i do that ?

If the database is not available when the server is starting it continues to try to connect to the database, and never starts the server.
Is there any flag so that the server just throws an error and then continues startup?
Thanks in advance.Just set the initial capacity of the pool to zero.

  • My White Macbook is stuck at the loading screen, and disk utility, safe mode doesn't work either. What should I do?

I went on vacation a few days ago and in El Salvador, they have this mobile broadband sticks. Well, I was using one until it gave me a network error. After that, it shut down my computer entirely. The first time it happened, I didn't think much of it. I took the battery out and put it back in for it could work. It happened another two times, and after the third time, my MacBook stays stuck at the loading screen, and it will take 5-10 minutes on that screen, before it shuts down, or it wouldn't turn on at all. I've tried booting into safe mode, but it appears to not boot into it. I've tried resetting the Pram, and using disk utility, but that still won't work. I don't know what else to do to make it boot into  OS X  Lion.
I'm an AP student, and the majority of my work is in that computer, and it is very important! What can I do? Not only that, but I enter school in a few weeks and I need the AP work by the time I enter.
What can I do? Can someone help?
    Thanks

    Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • Firefox hangs for about 5 minutes on startup and about that long each time I try to do something. How do I fix this?

My problem is basically that Firefox is deadly slow and unusable because of its slowness. It takes about 5 minutes (I haven't timed it) to bring up a window after I click on the Firefox icon in the dock. It beachballs for a while after the window comes up, and then for about five minutes after I click on the "new tab" button next to the current tab, directly above the address bar.
When I went to get the Troubleshooting Information, it didn't take too long. I was able to click on the Help menu, ask for troubleshooting, wait (a while), and then once the page loaded, I was able to copy the information and scroll around the troubleshooting page without difficulty. Other than that, I haven't had the patience to get to any websites. I'm sending this request from inside Safari.
I used Firefox 24 without any problem. I was unable to automatically upgrade to Firefox 25, so I downloaded it, deleted the old application, and went on my way. I started having this problem, so I took some steps based on the Knowledge Base (not listed in the order I tried them in):
    I reset Firefox
I reinstalled Firefox (deleted the old application from the applications folder and dragged in the application from the mounted .dmg again)
    I deleted the profile folder
    I restarted my computer
I confirmed that I'm not running antivirus software
I verified and repaired my disk with Disk Utility, which showed no errors
I ran Rember (one pass), which showed no errors
I started Firefox in Safe Mode
I have twice now gotten the red bar that says, "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application. Some security software can cause this problem." I am not running antivirus. I tried renaming places.sqlite to places.sqlite.old (there was no places.sqlite-journal), which prevented the red bar from coming up the next time I started Firefox, but two or three Firefox force-quits and relaunches later, it's back again.
Right now I'm looking at 'top' in Terminal, and here's Firefox:
PID COMMAND %CPU TIME #TH #WQ #POR #MREG RPRVT RSHRD RSIZE VPRVT VSIZE PGRP PPID STATE UID
    454 firefox 0.0 00:02.80 25 2 183 534 64M 47M 102M 120M 2894M 454 144 sleeping 1049
Could it be a plugin? I'm not sure where to get this information.
I can post logs from Rember and Disk Utility if that would help.
I am also currently trying to load about:crashes, but right now Firefox is trying to load "https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-bookmarks-and-history-will-not-be-functional?blahblahblah" and there is a little thing that says "Looking up support.cdn.mozilla.net..." at the bottom of the window, so I'm waiting for it to give up on that. To give you an idea of how long it's taking, it already was trying to reach this URL when I started writing this.
    Thanks in advance!
