Weblogic 9.2 capability
Please help me with answers for the below questions
1) Weblogic 9.2 server capacity for handling the concurrent users (max count of concurrent users)?
2) Maximum user's count for Weblogic 9.2 server (Normal users count)?
3) How many concurrent requests Weblogic can handle?
4) What are the scenarios for going with load balancer for Weblogic 9.2 server?
PS: Application is expected to have over 400 users and 50 concurrent users, and for each year the users growth is 15%

Permgen error while launching the weblogic server in windows

While starting the weblogic server from the windows, I am getting the below error 'Permgen space error' for Sip Server. Please let me know how can I avoid running the sip server while starting the weblogic server or how can I avoid the permgen error.

You can increase the PermSize and MaxPermSize parameters of the JVM to avoid java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space.
These parameters can be set in the setDomainEnv file. -

When I start the weblogic server it does not start, the message that the server is running is not displayed.

I had installed SOA suite 11 and weblogic server 10.3.5. setDomainEnv is setting environment variables like below.

But the managed server is shutting down. below is the trace from windows7 command prompt.

Thanks for the response. Actually i am not planning to configure weblogic SIP... as it may need little insight. I just created domain including everything.
Now i have created a new domain with basic functionality with default configuration. Now everything is working fine. I can see the Admin console as well.

JNDINameReplicated and distributed topics in 6.1 SP3
I am trying to figure out how to setup a distributed topic in Weblogic that is
capable of running even if one of the servers in the cluster goes down. I know
that the topic can only run on one machine at a time because it is replicated
in each server's JNDI tree. So, to get around this, I created the same topic
on two servers in my cluster and I set the JNDINameReplicated parameter to false.
However, if I send a message to the topic "cars" in server1, the message WON'T
be forwarded to subscribers of the topic "cars" in server2. How can I enforce
this? I will have subscribers to the topic "cars" on a different Weblogic server
then the one that the producer to the topic is sending the messages out on.
Any ideas how I can distribute the message throughout all of my JMS servers?

Can WL 8.1 handle http local redirects?
Is Weblogic 8.1 capable of handling redirects? (I.e. I want all traffic incoming as http://mysite.com/abc.html
to be redirected to http://mysite.com/def.html on the same server).
If so, what is the simplest way to accomplish this directly on the webserver?
Any input links to documentation on how to do this would be helpful.

Actually I've not seen this done in Weblogic either. That is why I was
directing you to a web server integrating to Weblogic via a plugin
mechanism. Weblogic has the facility to serve web pages, but that is not
it's real purpose. For this kind of detailed configuration control over
http requests you should look into something like the apache web server.
There is a plugin available to connect apache and weblogic server.
I apologise if this was not clear.

systems are actually quite high-txn rate, and uses a logical webserver

I'm sure this re-direct business at the Wl layer is pretty common and not

is accomplished for Weblogic? The real goal is to prevent caching of a

it perceives a maintenance page has come up, or the application has
failed), then it picks up the same cache file, as it's named the VIP of
the LB. That's why I'm trying to do this at the web layer.

Do any of you guys/ladies know how to maintain session on Weblogic? Does
Weblogic have Session capability like Microsoft/IIS does? The session that I
am talking about is similar with the Session on Microsoft environment....in
that you can maintain the STATE of your login. You can set Session Timeout
with it, or you don't have to request for new information (obtained from
LDAP) whenever you get back from doing other things as long as you maintain
the session (similar like Microsoft ASP Session object). Please let me know
if you know anything, or you can point me to a right direction. I, and my
colleagues, would really appreciate your help.

Do any of you guys/ladies know how to maintain session on Weblogic? Does
Weblogic have Session capability like Microsoft/IIS does? The session thatI
am talking about is similar with the Session on Microsoftenvironment....in
that you can maintain the STATE of your login. You can set Session Timeout
with it, or you don't have to request for new information (obtained from
LDAP) whenever you get back from doing other things as long as youmaintain
the session (similar like Microsoft ASP Session object). Please let meknow
if you know anything, or you can point me to a right direction. I, and my
colleagues, would really appreciate your help.

WLS 5.1 have a firewall restriction : no firewall between the servlet cluster and the object cluster. Is this restristion stay in WLS 6.0 ?

This issue has come up several times -- hopefully, we will update our documentation to clarify the issues.
The answer is that WLS (i.e., any version) does not care about firewalls in general, what it cares about are any load-balancing and/or network
address translation features of the firewalls. Let's take the easy one first.
Network-address translation issues
=========================
WebLogic uses the IP address of the machine where the server is running to pass information back to the caller (e.g., the RMI stub has
information about the location of the object, the Session ID has information encoded in it about the location of the HttpSession object).
Therefore, if the caller uses a different IP address (the one that maps to the firewall) than the physical IP address of the machine where the
server is running, you need to tell WebLogic what the "external" IP address is so that it will use this when encoding location information. I
don't remember exactly when this capability was added but you control it via the weblogic.system.DNSName property in later versions of the
product.
Load-balancing issues
================
WebLogic offers the capability of using stateful objects -- objects that reside on a particular server in the cluster. The information about
the location of these stateful objects is passed back to the caller so that the callers next request can be routed back to the correct
location. If, there is some network device between the caller and the server that causes the request to be routed to a server other than the
one containing the object, this will cause the application not to work.
For example, I have a stateful session bean instance residing in Server A in my cluster for a particular caller. However, I have set my
weblogic.system.DNSName property in my server to map to the IP address of my load-balancing hardware device so that the stub sends the caller's
request to the load-balancer instead of Server A. Now, if the load-balancer (for whatever reason) decides to route the request to some other
server in my cluster (i.e., not Server A), the call is going to fail because the server receiving the call has no knowledge of the stateful
session bean instance.
Therefore, in whatever architecture you choose, you need to make sure that you do not use a hardware load-balancer (or even DNS round-robining)
at the point where calls must be routed to a particular server. There are a couple of popular configurations, I will start with the one I
always recommend to my customers first.
Internet ---> firewall and/or hardware load-balancer ---> Web (Proxy) Servers ---> firewall ----> WLS Cluster (Servlets/JSPs and EJBs)
The one you are describing can be done multiple ways, none of which I recommend unless you have some outstanding reason for needing this
architecture.

Authentication and authorization capability in weblogic application server

Need input from architecture point of view -
Requirement is typical - have to build a web center portal application with authentication and authorization capability.
I can think of three architecture options:
1. weblogic server (where webcenter portal application will be deployed) with oracle IDM (or any other full blown IDM suite)...
2. weblogic server with Active Directory (or any other LDAP directory), and a LDAP authenticator is configured in weblogic...
3. only weblogic server (users created in weblogic admin console)...
Obviously 1st one is costliest option (product cost, infrastructure cost, maintenance cost) and most flexible. However I am discarding it purely because of cost.
Confused between 2nd and 3rd.
2nd option - separate user store, user can be added/deleted without touching application server, cost wise - 1 extra server and 1 LDAP directory product (or open source LDAP server)...
3rd option - application server becomes very 'heavy' with all users information, you need to access server to add/delete users, probably cheapest option money wise... However it might affect application performance if users grow large...
Please let me know if I should consider more parameters/points before deciding. Is there any important thing I am missing? Your input appreciated.

I would recommend to go with Second option instead of the third one.
In cause in future if you want to use different server also you will have option to use external AD.

external LDAP is more secure than internal one.

_WL_AUTHCOOKIE_JSESSIONID cookie capability without SSL termination on WebLogic?
I have a infrastructure deployment where for secure traffic, client SSL connections terminate on an F5 load balancer, but are not reestablished when connection is made from the F5 to the target WebLogic server v10.36 (i.e. only HTTP exists between the F5 and WebLogic). Given this environment, I'd still like to leverage the WebLogic container's session stealing prevention capability by enabling the configuration AuthCookieEnabled="true" whereby, the WebLogic container injects the _WL_AUTHCOOKIE_JSESSIONID secure cookie in addition to the in-the-clear jsessionid servlet session cookie.
So........ is this possible to leverage the _WL_AUTHCOOKIE_JSESSIONID when no secure secure ports are enabled on WebLogic? Is there a way to spoof the WL container to inject the secure cookie over in-the-clear HTTP (non-secure port)? And also have the WL container reject the request (or throw a security exception) if the mapped cookie doesn't exist or is the incorrect value (assuming the F5 takes the secure cookie and passes it in the HTTP header to WL)? It is also assumed that the F5 will pass the secure cookie in the SSL connection between the client and the F5.

You can try to introduce a Apache Webserver which communicates with WLS over SSL.
You can have http between Apache and F5.

To enable JSR 168 portlet capability on Weblogic:
1. Open one of the files listed below in a text editor:
Windows: <drive>:\bea\weblogic81\common\bin\commEnv.cmd
Unix: /apps/bea/weblgic81/common/bin/commEnv.sh
2. Modify the file so that file qname.jar appears ahead of the weblogic.jar file in the system classpath. For example:

i'm developing a web application using ecplipse 3.0.2 and weblogic 8.1 and maven webL. plugin 1.0.1 . I can't choose other versions. While the application grows and merges with other parts, the compilation-instalation-delpoyment cycle is growing too much.
Actually i have an EAR file of 100 MB and the cycle takes abaout 5 minutes, 5 minutes! to see a simple change in a class or worse in a jsp.
I'm really not familiarized with weblogic, so i have two questions:
- Can i deploy the differents 'parts-projects' separatly in order to re-deploy only the ones that had changes?
- Can i configure weblogic or my web-application to 'notice' changes in classes or pages and apply them dynamicly while the server is up?Hi,
