Weblogic Portal & LDAP Server
Hi,
I'm currently working on a portal project, where i will need to integrate WLP
8.1 w/ existing LDAP server(like Sun One Directory). I want to know how to..
1. integrate WLP 8.1 w/ existing LDAP directory server (Sun One Directory). If
so can WLP can be configured to use Sun One for authorization?
2. If not possible, is WL LDAP server full LDAP v3 compliant? is there a way to
synchronize WL LDAP w/ Sun One Directory?
Thanks in advance,
Venki

Second posting : Usage of embedded Portal LDAP server -
Hi All,
How to configure many instances of WLP 8.1 to use only one of it's embedded LDAP
server??
What i mean by this is that, suppose there are 5 instances of Portal, by default,all
of thse use their own LDAP servers.
But i want to configure in such a way that all 5 instances use any one of the
embedded LDAP of one of these 5 instances.
How to configure this ??
TIA, Prashanth Bhat.Prashanth,
By default, all instances of WLP enterprise apps use the same embedded
LDAP if they are within the same domain, since everything in the same
domain shares a single security realm. Of course, a security realm can
aggregate multiple LDAP servers via the addition of security providers.
I'm not aware of any easy way to share one domain's embedded LDAP
with another domain's security realm (if that is what you're asking). It
may be possible to expose it via a read only, custom atn provider you
would have to write.

Integrate exited weblogic portal with webcenter portal?
Hello all,
I am a newbie in webcenter portal. I worked on weblogic portal last time. Now i was attempting add exited weblogic portal to webcenter portal. Is it possible? Thanks in advance!
Regards,
CoyWhat do you mean by "add weblogic portal to webcenter portal"?
Like WebCenter, Weblogic portal could serve as framework for writing portal applications and/or portlets. If you have portlets, you should be OK. If you have applications, it might be a bit more tricky. If you still have a chance to run your old application on a Weblogic server (with deployed WLP libraries), you should be able to consume its outputs (web services, or even pages - at worst, take a look at Pagelet Producer, which is able to consume html pages regardless the technology). However, if you want to re-use your Weblogic apps resources, sooner or later you might be required to re-write it to the new, WebCenter framework.
So, it really depends on what you have and what you intend to do with it. -
Authentication in weblogic portal server 8.1 sp2 using external LDAP
Hi,
I am trying to use external LDAP for authentication.
I have configured the ActiveDirectoryAuthenticator giving the necessary
values
( and added
"-Dcom.bea.p13n.usermgmt.AuthenticationProviderName=ActiveDirectoryAuthentic
ator" in startWeblgoic.cmd )
and can see the users and the groups from my LDAP provider in the admin
console and in the admin portal's "users and groups".
A set of users are given permission to access the restricted site and those
users are visible in the global role with the permission.
The web.xml is configured for BASIC auth-method, and the role is
<externally-defined/> in weblogic.xml.
Now when I access a restricted page, I am shown a dialog prompt to key in
the username and password.
Even when I key in the valid credentials, the restricted page is not shown
and an "Unauthorized xxx" 401 access error is thrown.
Any clue, on what i am missing.?
Please let me know if any suggestion / idea.
Regards,
Arun.Assuming your application is a WebLogic Portal application, then yes you would definitely need to install WLP 8.1. WLP version 8.1 is the only version of WLP that will run on WLS/WLW version 8.1.
In order to obtain the product installer, you'll need to contact Oracle Support and file a request. It is not available for download from any Oracle public site. Only version 10.3 is available for download.

Use of external LDAP server in Weblogic Commerce Server
I'm using the following software:
Iplanet Directory Server v5
Weblogic Application Server v6
Weblogic Commerce v3.5
I need to configure Weblogic Commerce Server to use Iplanet Directory Server directory
services. How do I do that?
I have a couple of questions related to this:
1) As Weblogic Commerce Server runs on top of Weblogic v6, does it mean that to
use an external LDAP server, I need to configure weblogic v6 to do that and not
Weblogic Commerce Server?
2) Whatever may be the case above, how do I do that?
3) config.xml (weblogic application server v6) contains information that needs
to be modified to point to an external JNDI source provider but what information
do I need to modify?
I'd really appreciate if someone can help me out here. Thanks!"JP" <[email protected]> wrote in message news:[email protected]..
Hi,
I'm looking for someone who has used the Lotus LDAP server for WLP7
authentication.
I connect my portal to the Domino LDAP, User and Groups are working
fine, but the membership of a user to a group is not.
I assume that it's related to the parameters I use (especially the
membership.filter ?):
"user.filter=(&(uid=%u)(objectclass=person));
user.dn=O=Apac;
membership.filter=(&(uniquemember=%M)(objectclass=groupOfNames));
group.filter=(&(cn=%g)(objectclass=groupOfNames));
server.host=jpgal01.apac.bea.com;
group.dn="
Any help would be appreciate, because I just don't where to look for.
Try setting the com.netscape.ldap.trace property.
\* When -D command line option is used, defining the property with
* no value will send the trace output to the standard error. If the
* value is defined, it is assumed to be the name of an output file.
* If the file name is prefixed with a '+' character, the file is
* opened in append mode.
This will create a ldap trace file of the requests that WLS is making on the
LDAP server. You can then see
where the filters are not returning the correct value for the group
membership. -
Portal and Netscape LDAP server integration
Hi,
I am trying to integrate Netscape LDAP server (6.0) with portal server 7, but
having lots of trouble doing that.
I've followed the instructions in the developer guide and completed the following
steps:
1. added a CustomRealm named defaultLDAPRealmForNetscapeDirectoryServer in config.xml
and modified the entries to fit my environment.
2. Deployed ldapprofile.jar and customized the env variables.
After these two steps, nothing happened. Then I did the third step:
3. added a iPlanet Authenticator to the realm CompatibilityRealm, which is my
default realm for the server.
However, after step 3, I wasn't able to boot weblogic server. Please note I have
create two users, system and weblogic in my LDAP server.
I copied the stack trace below. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

at weblogic.Server.main(Server.java:32)Thanks a lot Scott. I followed your instructions and got it working to a certain
degree. I am pretty happy about the results.
There are still a few issues:
1. I had to create groups and users in my directory server in order to boot up
and logon to the server. This is expected, but is it possible to export these
user/group settings from the embedded LDAP server so that I can import them into
my directory server? Currently, the only way is manual and it's error prone. A
lot of trial and error has to happen to get there.
2. It seems that using Netscape LDAP server only allows read-only access. This
means we have to create new users/groups outside of the portal server and one
other side effect is self-registration is impossible, unless we use custom security
providers. Is this assessment correct? Since LDAP integration is so important,
wouldn't it be nice if BEA have that built-in and all we need to do is to switch
to and configure it?
3. I got duplicate users and groups in compatibility security. Obviously, one
set is from my LDAP server and the other is from the embedded one. I tried to
remove to embedded LDAP authenticator, but the duplicates are still there. How
can I get rid of the duplicates - I only want the ones from my LDAP server?
Thanks again Scott.

Weiguo,
WLP 7.0 uses a compatibility realm only and will not work with the
custom realm that you created for the Netscape directory server.
Configuring an LDAP compatibility realm isn't too bad and its
configuration is much like 4.0. However, it can be hard to configure
initially from the console. One way is to shut your server down and
modify config.xml directly - but make sure you make a backup copy first!
Then add something like:
<CachingRealm BasicRealm="myRealm" CacheCaseSensitive="true"
Name="wlcsCachingRealm"/>
<CustomRealm
ConfigurationData="user.filter=(&(uid=%u)(objectclass=person));
user.dn=ou=people,dc=beasys,dc=com;
server.principal=uid=dirmanager,ou=people,dc=beasys,dc=com;
membership.filter=(&(uniquemember=%M)(objectclass=groupofuniquenames));
group.filter=(&(cn=%g)(objectclass=groupofuniquenames));
server.host=somehost.beasys.com;
group.dn=ou=groups,dc=beasys,dc=com"
Name="myRealm" Password="your_password_here"
RealmClassName="weblogic.security.ldaprealmv2.LDAPRealm"/>
will enable your LDAP server. After this is setup it will be much
easier to configure via the console. Obviously you'll need to update
the parameters above for your configuration.

Hi,
My question is Can UME in portal be configured for multiple LDAP sources.Currently i have a setting in portal
as follows:
Server Name : Abcd
port : 1234
user : CN=" ",Ou=" ",Ou=" ",Dc=AD,Dc=my company,Dc=com
password :
user path : DC=AD,Dc=My company,Dc=Com
group Path : same as user path
I want to configure one more LDAP server to my portal UME,how can give values for that in above sttings.I even want these current settings to be enabled.
Do anyone have idea on this.
Thanks and Regards

Thanks in advance.First you install a JDK6 version after which you can install your WebLogic and Forms, Reports...
A step-by-step example is presented here: http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=7265
Look in the 'Install WebLogic' section. Note that you probably do not have to create a separate user,
also you can use HotSpot instead of JRockit. -
Errors in Weblogic server log for Weblogic Portal
Hi,
I apologize if the question has been posted and answered.. I had searched but couldn't find anything in this forum.
My post is a bit lengthy as I will be providing as much details as possible.. sorry about that.. :)
I am new to Weblogic server and Weblogic Portal.. in fact I have never worked on portals. I have installed the Weblogic Portal 10.3.2 along with the Weblogic. I have used quickstart to create a domain. There I have configured the following data sources:
appsGroupSpaceDataSource
cgDataSource
cgDataSource-nonXA
p13nDataSource
portalDataSource
portalDataSourceAlwaysXA
portalDataSourceNeverXA
My database is oracle 11g. I have created a user and granted the user all the admin roles and priviledges
The database connection test had worked for all the sources except appsGroupSpaceDataSource where the test query SELECT COUNT(*) FROM SYSTABLES failed as there was no such table in the database.
I had run the following scripts:
Drop/Create Groupspace Database Objects (appsGroupSpaceDataSource )
Drop/Create P13N Database Objects (p13nDataSource)
Drop/Create Content Database Objects (p13nDataSource)
Drop/Create Portal Database Objects (p13nDataSource)
There were no scripts to run for the other data sources.
After installation whenever I am starting the admin server I am seeing this error in the console:
<Sep 17, 2010 12:48:05 PM IST> <Error> <JDBC> <BEA-001112> <Test "SELECT COUNT(*) FROM SYSTABLES" set up for pool "appsGroupSpaceDataSource" failed with exception: "java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
".>
<Sep 17, 2010 12:48:05 PM IST> <Error> <JDBC> <BEA-001112> <Test "SELECT COUNT(*) FROM SYSTABLES" set up for pool "cgDataSource" failed with exception: "java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
".>
<Sep 17, 2010 12:48:06 PM IST> <Error> <JDBC> <BEA-001112> <Test "SELECT COUNT(*) FROM SYSTABLES" set up for pool "cgDataSource-nonXA" failed with exception: "java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
".>
<Sep 17, 2010 12:48:06 PM IST> <Error> <JDBC> <BEA-001112> <Test "SELECT COUNT(*) FROM SYSTABLES" set up for pool "p13nDataSource" failed with exception: "java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
".>
<Sep 17, 2010 12:48:07 PM IST> <Error> <JDBC> <BEA-001112> <Test "SELECT COUNT(*) FROM SYSTABLES" set up for pool "portalDataSource" failed with exception: "java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
".>
And the errors are happening in an infinite loop....
I checked and there is no table created in that name in the database.. and being totally new to weblogic I am not sure where else to check.
It would be great if some one could help me track the cause and resolve this..
Thanks a lot for reading the long post.. and double thanks for a reply.. :)
Edited by: 795423 on Sep 17, 2010 12:17 AMI digged in the weblogic installation directory and it seems like the domain configuration wizard messed up the jdbc configs for the data sources.
The config xml files for the data sources in the /domain root/config/jdbc directory had oracle driver but the test query was for pointbase. I double checked from the database.xml file in the init-info directory and corrected the entry in the datasource config xmls and voila!.. the errors were gone.
I am not sure if this was the right approach and whether i have solved the issue or simply patched it.. so I am keeping the question open. If any one has any inputs I will be grateful.
If the mods/admins feel that the thread should be marked as solved I will surely do so.
Thanks. -
Weblogic Portal 9.2 LDAP user listing resulting in NullPointer
Hi,
I have configured Weblogic Portal 9.2 to use an LDAPAuthenticator, when I use the Admin Console I can see the Novel Groups and Novel Users fine. When I select "User Management" menu item in the Admin tool where you set the Entitlements etc.. I get a null pointer exception but can see the Novel Groups fine. Is this a bug?
The exception starts with...

The strange thing is that firstly I can see the Novel Groups but not the users, and can see both Groups and Users in the normal administration console. This tells me that the LDAPAuthenticator is connecting up correctly.This problem occured because the user filter entry was not filled in when putting in the ldap provider settings on the weblogic console. The portal admin console gives a null pointer when listing all users but when using the normal weblogic console it lists the Novel users alright.

Gettin error while starting the weblogic portal server
Hi ,
This is Kalyan. I had installed weblogic portal 10.3 in my system.After installing i had tried for the sample portal web application. I had selected the portal web project-->given the project name and selected the necessary things .I had create sample portal when iam trying to run this portal on the server it showing me the error.
Error(s) found in module 'ProData'. Publish was cancelled. See "Problems" view for details.
A WebLogic Portal web application project should be added as a J2EE module to a WebLogic Portal EAR project for proper deployment at ProData
The associated EAR "ProDataEAR" is not a Portal Application Services EAR at ProData
A Portal Application Services web application should be associated with a Portal Application Services EAR for proper deployment at ProData
Here ProData is the my project name can anybody tell me the solution i will be grate ful to them
Thanks & RegardsHi Kalyan
1. First you need to create the portal ear project by selecting the portal project facets. Then create the portal web project with portal facets and make sure it is added to first create portal ear project. By default it will show in the list. Then portal data sync project is optional. Since this is your first time you can skip for now. Later on you can add data sync project also to the same portal ear. Once you have this, then you can deploy the portal ear project on the portal domain. Remember that you need to create the portal domain with portal facets.
Delete the project you already created and start from fresh. If you already created any portlets or pageflows or jsps etc, copy those files as backup. Once you create portal ear and web projects, copy them into your new application.
Here is the link for details: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13155_01/wlp/docs103/quickstart/newproject.html

My connection methods are written here:
Note: I've configured a datasource in the weblogic servre admin console named: IBDataSource JNDI name : jdbc/IBDS.
Also i've gone through the documentation and changed the p13n-profile-config.XML accordingly and made a new property set in the Datasync project with the required property neames.
my p13n-profile-config.xml entry looks like this....
<property-adapter>
<name>myuup</name>
<property-mapping>myuup</property-mapping>
<ejb-jndi>UUPEjb.jar#CustomEntityPropertyManager</ejb-jndi>
<adapter-property>
<name>IBDataSource</name>
<value>jdbc:bea:oracle://192.168.0.112:1521</value>
</adapter-property>
<adapter-property>
<name>UUPExampleCache</name>
<value>UUPExampleCache</value>
</adapter-property>
</property-adapter>
protected Connection getConnection() {
try {
DataSource dataSource = getDataSource();
return dataSource.getConnection();
} catch (SQLException ex) {
throw new ConfigurableEntitySystemException(ex);
protected DataSource getDataSource(){
DataSource ds = null;
try {
ds = (DataSource) getEnvironmentProperty(DATA_SOURCE);
} catch (Exception ex) {
throw new ConfigurableEntitySystemException(ex);
return ds;
protected final Object getEnvironmentProperty(String propertyName) throws NamingException {
Object envProperty = null;
InitialContext jndiContext = new InitialContext();
String lookupName = ( (new StringBuffer("java:comp/env/")).append(propertyName) ).toString();
System.out.println("The lookup name is" + lookupName );
envProperty = jndiContext.lookup(lookupName);
System.out.println("The value of envProperty is " + envProperty);
return envProperty;
My ejb.jar.xml entry contains:
<resource-ref>
<res-ref-name>jdbc/IBDS</res-ref-name>
<res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type>
<res-auth>Container</res-auth>
</resource-ref>
and Weblogic-ejb-jar.xml entry contains:
<resource-description>
<res-ref-name>jdbc/IBDS</res-ref-name>
<jndi-name>jdbc/IBDS</jndi-name>
</resource-description>
When we try to access the propertyset in the portal admin console the following error message is given:----

Edited by: user10728655 on Dec 19, 2008 4:09 AMThere isn't a specific list of pro's / con's. Here are a few of the factors.
a. Is this a custom UUP we are talking about or out of the box UUP? (determines effort time saved)
b. What other features of WLP will be used? Will say for e.g. entitlements be used , and is so will they be based on UUP properties ? will content selectors be used? will segments be used? What are you hoping to accomplish by using the UUP? (determines what benefits you get)
c. Are there any search related requirements based on the UUP (e.g. find all users with a UUP of country='US'?) How pure should your design be i.e. do you only interact with supported BEA API's or are you willing to go to the db directly , with the knowledge that future releases may cause your code to break? (UUP's arent good for searching , you can however go directly to db or use a custom UUP)
d. what sort of caching is possible for the data(i.e is the data very time sensitive or mostly static)? what sort of updates are done ? is it one property at a time or multiple properties? is the UUP read only?How much flexibility do you need with transactions? (UUP go well with non time sensitive data which isnt updated by means other than the UUP).
