Weblogic portal session data lost

Hi,
I have a peculiar scenario where the data set in the HttpSession gets lost intermittently. I could not really figure out a pattern where this occurs.It occurs any where in the application.
I have a session listener tied to the Session which does not get triggered when the session data is lost in this manner. This makes me to believe that the session itself is not getting killed. but only the data gets lost.
I am using Weblogic Portal Server 8.1 sp5 on UNIX server.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

In our sprint portal application,the main page has 'SSN' and 'Access code' text box fields with search button,user gave value only for SSN box and it took him to access code page with appropriate error message in child window.

Proliferation refers to the process by which changes made to the Library instance of a portal asset are pushed into user-customized instances of that asset which means that when any changes are made to the portlet in source and if you want to propagate that change to the destination, that time if that portlet is used in a desktop where many users are provided an option to customize that desktop only that particular time at destination if you change the Portal Resources Proliferation of Updates Configuration setting to either Asynchronous or off propagation will be faster because that time propagation utility will not change for each user. If the value is synchronous it changes for each user and hence some delay that too it will happen during commit operation only but not during download operation.
So I feel, Proliferation may not be useful for your case.
We need to find why downloading source is taking 3 hrs and destination is taking 8 hrs.
Please let me know whether you are running downloadsource and downloaddestination.
I suggest run downloadSource in source machine itself and downloadDestination on the destination Machine itself so that you can reduce the network latency.

Session Data Lost Between JSP's

I am using Oracle 10g Application Server (9.0.4) on SunOS 5.8. I am trying to upgrade an application previously written for Oracle 9iAS 9.0.2.
A single JSP (myFile.jsp) is called via a POST operation, and it is initally used to create a frameset that contains two frames. Each frame has a URL link to the same JSP file, with some additional parameters:

The problem is that when myFile.jsp is called to generate the actual page for the frames, all the HttpServletRequest data has gone, and only the parameters passed in the Query String remain. I don't want to lose the original POST data - in fact, when I used this on Oracle 9iAS 9.0.2 it preserved the POST data and added the additional queries from the query string so all the parameters were available.
Has the behaviour of the session manager changed that much between Oracle 9iAS and Oracle 10g 9.0.4? How can I achieve my goal on 9.0.4?
I tried adding the original POST request to the HttpSession variable as follows:
session.setAttribute("PARENT_REQUEST",request);
and then extracting the request data when the JSP is called on subsequent occasions as follows:
HttpServletRequest newRequest = (HttpServletRequest) session.getAttribute("PARENT_REQUEST");
But 'newRequest' is actually empty, and it doesn't create an exception. If I debug the session object I notice 2 things:
1. The session ID remains the same througout all calls of myFile.jsp.
2. The memory location pointed to by the parameter "PARENT_REQUEST" also remains the same, in the format:
com.evermind.server.http.AJPHttpServletRequest@1bd5093
If the session object being passed around by cookies remains consistent, why can I not extract the PARENT_REQUEST attribute from it on subsequent calls to myFile.jsp? Have I misunderstood how HttpSession works? How can I modify my JSP's so that data stored during a session is made available to subsequent calls to myFile.jsp?

is just a pointer to the actual request object. Other code, especially the server internal code that manage the http requests and responses can see and manipulate that actual request object. For example, although I am not sure if it is the case, the request objects can be pooled and reused. So it is possible that although "The memory location pointed to by the parameter "PARENT_REQUEST" also remains the same, in the format: com.evermind.server.http.AJPHttpServletRequest@1bd5093", the actual request object at that memory location may have changed. The right way to preserve the original request object is to make a private deep copy of it; however there is no easy way to do that.
Well, an easy way out is to store directly what you need from the original request. If you would like to store the parameters, try
session.setAttribute("origParams", request.getParameterMap().clone());
Although this clone() does a shallow copy, it is probably good enough. To be absolutely sure, you can make a deep copy of everything you need and store them.

Can portal session cookies be used between two data centers

OAS generates the following header information and session information for my application. However when I need to failover the originating OAS datacenter into my hot stand-by for maintenance or upgrades, the OAS in the other datacenter responds with a 503 web error. We are using Akamai's GTM to manage the liveness of the datacenter, so we would need the hot stand-by OAS portal in that datacenter to return a 302 error code. Is there some method that we can add to our portal application which would always return a 302 error code.
See header information collected through wfetch. The 503 error is caused by the hot stand-by data center not accepting or recognizing the cookie. Both OAS datacenters are IDENTICAL in Oracle levels, application levels, web servers, portals and OS patches.

Unique session key weblogic portal 9.2

Is there a way I can generate unique session key to ensure correct session is tracking between every desktop with different user.

what exactly do you want to do? A session does have an id which is guaranteed unique while the server is running (you dont need to do anything special for this). HttpSession.getId.
Note However normally this value gets stored as a cookie on the browser (with the default name of JSESSIONID) and you must ensure that different webapps on the same domain dont overwrite this value

I am using Weblogic portal 10.3, need to publish a content item for futhre date , i tried adding the date and time to startDate property and published it, and the changes got reflected immediately.

Case 1 -
Assuming that there is a version which is currently displayed on the portal, if the business has published 3 future versions already (not yet published on portal), then he can make any changes in any of the future versions and have them automatically published.
Case 2 -
If there is a version which is currently displayed and there are 2 future versions published in the repository already, if the business user wants to make any changes in the current version, he just changes and re-publishes for the updated stuff to appear on the portal.
Case 3 - overlaps
Incase of 2 published versions with the same start dates but varying end dates, as the content selector will pick up both the nodes into the arraylist. In that case we can write a comparator, which incase of same start dates, do a comparison on the version id, and then pick the latest version. but in that case, we may lose one version. I guess in that case, we will have to advise the user handling this versionong to provide sequential dates for all the versions.
I hope I have got the issue right and covered all the cases.

Variety of things to consider here, what kinds of requests your passing across and where the connector isinstalled. If the connector is installed in the same web server instance as portal, the web server could be overloaded ..

Session varaible data lost!

I have a situation where I have A servlet set with some session variables from here another page url is called which is resides in a different machine and server. Again when A servlet is called through a url from the 2nd machine , the original session data set in A servlet is lost?
Any idea how the session data in A servlet could be retained?

From all that I could understand from your questions, there are two servlets running in two different machines. They can never obtain each others session data.

Lost session data on jsps

I run a jsp on Tomcat. But the Tomcat says that the session is lost and returns a null pointer. There is no session clear statement in my jsp except its pointing out a null session data.
It works well when I go to a jsp that comes from a servlet processing. But when I click on link that directly calls on a jsp page, the page doesn't finish loading/errs out.
What to do with this? This works fine in single-serevr instance. But when it's run on a cluster/shared environment, it doesn't.

I'm new to tomcat itself and to this job :) I'm using tomcat 5.0.28.
I'm not sure how they do clustering in their setup though.
It's working fine by in a test standalone mode. I do think there's something wrong with the setup. But how would I know?
The jsp sometimes work , and most of the times not. It works when you try to refresh the page. It also works when it comes from a servlet call. But when its just an href link, it doesn't. JSP is using an object from the session. It throws an exception when it can't find this object in the session. But when I click on a link that calls a servlet to load a jsp that's using the same session object, how come it can load up.
What's happening with the session?

Session Handling in Weblogic Portal 9.2

I have posted a strange problem that i have been facing. It was that my previously visited page was getting rendered when i used to perform some action on my current page.
I attributed this to some caching that might be happening. I want to know if every page that we visit in an application gets cached ? May be due to caching, the earlier page is getting displayed.
Are these portlets or pages getting cached in the session? Any workaround by which i can clear the cache of all the previously visited pages?

By default, the session timeout seconds is 3600, ie, an hour.
          In case you have specified weblogic-application.xml or weblogic.xml, you can add a descriptor "session-descriptor" to set session-timeout seconds.
          Here is a sample to set the timeout to 2 hours.

Redirect service from http to https, session is lost

I have setup two web sites using NT 4.0 IIS so that both
          "http://nossl/mybeanbeans" and "https://ssltest/mybeanbeans"
          can execute the commerce server mybuybeans example.
          Then I modify the shoppingCartDetail.jsp and commandAssembler.jsp
          (files attached) hoping that when I click the "Checkout" button
          on the Shopping Cart screen, it will redirect the service from
          http to https.
          The URL is redirected to "https" but it depicts the welcome page
          instead of showing the Order Check Out page.
          Previous session information is lost.
          Can anyone help me?

the problem is when the cookie is exchanged between the browser
          and the app server IE treats request coming from http://bc.com:7001
          and http://bc.com:7002 as one and the same : so the browser maintains
          the same session but netscape treats this as responses coming from two
          different servers and hence u lost the session.
          I assume u are having this problem with netscape and not IE.
          the solution is set this property in the weblogic.properties file

A supplemental developer's guide has been published to help guide WLP 10.x customers that wish to use JSF as the web framework for building portlets on WebLogic Portal. This is a sizable document (150 pages) that covers a large number of topics. It also coaches developers on best practices and common pitfalls.
Important: It also clarifies the supported configuration of JSF within Portal Web Projects. Workshop for WebLogic by default configures a web project in a configuration that is not supported by WebLogic Portal. The guide explains how to address this:

Query- IPC using JSF Portlets in WebLogic Portal

The question is how to pass data when doing InterPortlet Communication using Local JSF portlets in Weblogic Portal.
I will eloborate on the particular scenario we have below.
Two JSF portlets are build (both are not using Java Page Flows). The first porltet has a table of data. When the user clicks on one of the items in the table (which is coded using <h:commandLink/> option), the second portlet should show some details on the item clicked.
For example:
If there is a list of books in first portlet, when clicking on one of the book name, the details of book should come up in the second portlet.
To achieve this, faces event was enabled in first portlet with requestAttrPersistence option set to session.
For example :

How to use servlets in portal web application in Weblogic Portal 4.0

We are developing a Portal Web application using Weblogic Portal 4.0 where in we
have the following scenario. one JSP in webflow of a portlet calls the PipeLine
which does some processing and calls the servlet which is having the typical download
functionality. The servlet is supposed to read the data from the pipeline session
and create a CSV String that is dumped to the client browser. The problem is even
we are doing response.setContentType("application/save") in the servlet it is
still displaying the content as html in the portlet. I guess since all our request
are send to the webflow contolling servlet and it is setting the content type
and hence our servlet is not working. How do I solve this problem? Thanks Yogesh
