WebLogic Portal vs Oracle Portal

Anyone know the differences in term of features of WebLogic Portal and Oracle Portal?
i) WebLogic Portal supports Web 2.0 while Oracle Portal doesn't?
ii) Oracle Portal provides SSO to oracle applications while WebLogic Portal doesn't?
Any other different features?
Please advise, thanks.

There are lots of differences, but I think you should post your question in the WebCenter and Web 2.0 Technology forum with some additional detail as to why you are asking:
WebCenter Portal
For example, are you making a technology choice for a particular project? What portal requirements do you have? What are the skillsets of those who will be implementing, etc.
The long term strategy is to converge on the WebCenter product, but there are nuances that may make other portal products a better fit in the short-term.

  • Weblogic Portal x Oracle Portal

    Hello, i have a question.
What is the main differencebetween Oracle Portal and Weblogic Portal, i haven't found any document with this information. The pages in oracle site are totally different.
Anyone can explain what is this difference?

These are altogether separate products (BEA weblogic portal was acquired by Oracle when it bought BEA). Is there a specific question?

  • Oracle Portal 11g, Oracle WebCenter Suite or Oracle WebLogic Portal ?

Witch of these technologies, Oracle Portal 11g,
Oracle WebCenter Suite or Oracle WebLogic Portal ?
is the future product of oracle ?
I am going to use portal but I don't know witch of these product is the correct one.
I need help to clarified it. As i am going to use portal I want to use the one that oracle intend to support

    Hi Harish,
There are lot differences are available when you compare these three products, some them are
    Oracle Web Center Suite
Comprises of various components such as Web Center Interaction,Oracle Entitlement Server,Oracle Personalization Server an Ensemble(for proxying content and mashups) and chat server, wiki server, blog server, forum etc are available with web center suite. The collaboration tools are out of the box,so you dont require to redevelop anything to enable collaboration for your site.Basically webcenter is more powerful when used to develop intranet sites rather than a website which requires less collaboration.
    Oracle Portal 10g
Oracle Portal 10g is the primary oracle portal product before oracle bought BEA.The main difference is the architecture and framework,Oracle Portal uses sql/plsql intensively for processing the page as all their pages are developed from browser.Every thing you develop is streaming that is queried from DB in contrast with weblogic portal which has the feature of file based portal which is faster compared to the streaming(persistent desktops). The architecture is different compared to weblogic and webcenter. For ex:There are sql and pl/sql portlets which can be developed very faster which not there in the other two platforms.
    Oracle Weblogic Portal 10.3
It is hot in the market right now and development is easier and architecture supports both file based and streaming, the primary features of all the portal product are more or less same but webcenter has more collaborative features.Weblogic portal is very stable as it is on WLS which is a stable weblogic server.
I prefer if you have any previous experience on any of these products then built on that one.Else start with weblogic portal which is easier to startwith compared to others.

  • How to put links to E-Business suite pages in Oracle Portal

    Hi All,
I am looking to create an employee portal using Oracle Portal 11g. One of the requirements is to provide some summary information on, say benefits in the portal and provide a link to the detailed benefits page in e-business suite from there (portal is fully integrated with EBS in our case). Can someone with experience doing this put light on the following :
    1. What is the simplest way to provide the links ?
    2. Is there any way to make them migration proof ? for example : my link now points to the DEV environment and in the production, it should point to the PROD.
    Regards,
    Vinayaka

    Hi,
This question would probably be better addressed in the E-Business Suite forum at https://forums.oracle.com/forums/category.jspa?categoryID=3

  • Sun Portal 6 vs Oracle Portal

    Hi,
I would be interested what Sun Portal people thing about the Sun Product and the Oracle Portal if they have some knowledge....
We are evaluating right now both products.
What would be the advantage of the Sun Portal ? Oracle Portal has a nice content management interface. Sun does not have something like that but maybe sun has other advantages we dont know.
I am looking forward to your replys.
    Thanks a lot.
    Jonny

    not from Sun but ..
    Ora:
    + a lot of nice stuff :-)
    - Ora Portal runs only on Ora platform
    - switch off the PLSQL engine and the portal doesn't work
    - problems with JSR168
    Sun:
    * CMS is included (with 5 content admins for free)
    * CMS is from Fatwire
+ Portal + Access Management included
    + Security included (SRAP)
    + open system
+ runs on Bea, IBM, Sun
+ runs on Lin, Win, Sol (sparc+x86)

  • WebDB vs Oracle Portal

It appears that Oracle is replacing WebDB with the new Oracle Portal product. Does anyone here know why Oracle is replacing WebDB and what the differences between WebDB and Oracle Portal (performance, development ease, etc).
    Looking for an answer ASAP.
    Thanks,
    David Fordham
    [email protected]

This is not really the forum for this type of question. This forum is for questions related specifically to the Portal Development Kit.
However, Oracle Portal is not really replacing WebDB in a sense. It is the same product. Because WebDB has taken on a larger role than Web-enabling the database, it has now become Oracle Portal. Oracle Portal offers the same features and benefits that existed in WebDb, but now also offers Portal services as well.
    Hope this helps,
    Sue

The first sessions are in February in the US in Reston, VA. These are the very first hand-on classes on Oracle Application Server 10g.
A third class, OracleAS Portal 10g: Build Portlets with Java, will be released soon too.

The links did come through properly... Let's try them again:

  • OracleAS Portal 10g: Build Corporate Portals - Worth Taking this Course?

    Hello,
I am currently building the company Intranet using the Oracle Instant Portal and I am new to Oracle and Portal concept. Would it be beneficial to take the following course? Has anyone taken this course before? What is your feedback for learning more about Oracle Portal / Oracle Instant Portal?
OracleAS Portal 10g: Build Corporate Portals
    http://education.oracle.com/web_prod-plq-dad/plsql/show_desc.redirect?dc=D16648GC10&p_org_id=1001&lang=US&source_call=
    Thanks!

This is a worthwhile course, but not for learning about Oracle Instant Portal (which was released after the Build Corporate Portals course was written). The best place to start finding out about Oracle Instant Portal is the self-paced Oracle By Example (OBE) tutorial, Building Instant Portals with Oracle Instant Portal. The tutorial also has links to a couple of viewlets, which you should find helpful.

  • Oracle portal upgrade issue

    Hi All,
I upgraded the older 10.1.2 oracle portal TO oracle portal 10.1.4 on windows.
Next step is i have to apply a patch. As i execute the patch related batch file it fails. it keeps giving me following error.
    MISSING_COMPONENT : oracle.webdb.midtier, 10.1.2.0.1
This Oracle Home does not have components/versions required by the patch.
ERROR: OPatch failed during pre-reqs check.
OPatch returns with error code = 150
what could be the issue and how to resolve ?
    thanks,
    pp

are you getting these errors in the pre-upgrade logs or in the actual run?
You would have to go to each of these lines individually in the upgrade logs and see what is the context of these errors and what are the specific details of the objects which are throwing these errors.
For instance, go to the lines 7682-7700 and see what is causing these errors. which objects, and which exceptions in those objects.
    just as a side note:
always make sure you do not have any invalid objects in your schemas with any kinds of compilation errors before running the upgrade scripts.

  • Oracle Portal returns 500 error running under Weblogic 11g server

I've got Oracle Portal set up under Weblogic 11g.
SSO running, talking to OID 11g, also running under the same Weblogic 11g server. Tested SSO, it is working well.
After the install (no errors or issue on install), I go to http://<server>:8090/portal/pls/portal and geta Error 500 - Internal Server Error.
I traced down the problem to OHS - in ohs1.log:

  • Migration of oracle portal contents/applications to Weblogic portal

I have a website running on oracle portal. I want to migrate all those contents (applications/portlets) to weblogic portal. I dont know where to start from. Can somebody please guide me and give me some tutorials for this.
    Thanks
    Joseph

    Hi Ajay,
If  the configtool is showing the old information of instances , it has got two things
    1.  JMT phase of your migration has not been performed correctly.
    2. If you are using the same hostname , SID , instance name , then it will calculate the same instance number.
In JMT  phase it  should delete all the information of dialog instance  and calculated the new instance id
on the basis of box number calculated from the file cluster_id_switch.properties while migrating the CI.
checked the JMT folder inside sapinst_dir.
Checked the below parameter in cluster_id_switch.properties
    src.ci.sid=
    src.ci.instance.number=
    src.ci.instance.name=
    src.ci.host=
Checked the logs for java migration tool phase and java configuration parameter phase. Also do check the box number of the system. If the box number is not correct as per your input then you will not able to patch your system further.
Now in second case, If you are keeping the same hostname , instance name and SID , then it will calculate the same instance id so you don't need to worry in this case.
