WebLogic Server 11gR2 etc. road map?

Hi all,
I've been searching oracle.com looking for a document that might lay out a road map for new major releases of WebLogic Server (11gR2 etc.), and not finding anything helpful. Mainly I'm interested in when Oracle might release a version that is certified on RHEL 6, though it would also be nice to know when they might release a version that fully supports Java EE 6 (there is another older thread about that also). My impression is that changes like this would probably be a new major version (11gR2 a.k.a 10.4?) vs. a new patchset version (11gR1 10.3.5).
Does anybody know whether this info is publicly available? I can also try our company's paid support, but first wanted to see if there is something public.
Thanks,
Jim

Oracle after a whole bunch of acquisitions and more recently after the BEA acquisition, is now on somewhat synthesis mode for the range of products they now have. Generally they call for three tracks for products;

- those which are to be discontinued/replaced by some other products;
so for example, for web 2.0 or enterprise suites/user interaction, Oracle defines WebCenter as its strategic product, instead of Oracle Portal which is on a continue and converge track now. or for application server, WebLogic Server is the strategic product. etc. whereas OAS is on continue and converge track.
about each product type/technology, Oracle has new SODs (statement of direction) which defines the products and expected support offerings. please see this link.

  • Road map for Oracle application server

    I assume Oracle will at some point merge both it's Application Server, and the acquired BEA WebLogic Server with WebLogic being the main code source. Does anyone know of such a roadmap or direction of statement that I can review (diagram or wording)?

  • Deploying ADF application to a managed weblogic server - ADF security error

    Hi,
    Our group has written an ADF web application, which we are attempting to deploy to a managed weblogic server. Thus far, we have been unsuccessful. The application does successfully deploy to the AdminServer. Our setup:
    Weblogic version is 10.3.0. Domain name is adf_domain. We have installed the ADF (ADF version is 11.1.1.0.0), JSTL(1.2.0.1), and JSF(1.2.7.1) runtime libraries, and they are targeted to both the admin server AND the managed server, which is called CollabServer. This server communicates with the node manager and can be started and stopped via the admin console successfully. The AdminServer is on port 7101, and the CollabServer is on port 7104. We are not using SSL.
    application.xml:
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1252'?>
    <application xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
    xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/application_5.xsd"

    </weblogic-web-app>
    As I said, there are no deployment errors when we deploy to the admin server. However, we always see the following errors when deploying to the managed server:
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: oracle.security.jps.wls.listeners.JpsApplicationLifecycleListener
    etc.
    This error occurs when deploying via the <wldeploy> ant task included with weblogic, and when deploying the application manually via the admin console.
    So I removed this from weblogic-application.xml:
    <listener>
    <listener-class>oracle.security.jps.wls.listeners.JpsApplicationLifecycleListener</listener-class>
    </listener>
    Which resolved the initial error (I assume there is some sort of bug that causes this workaround to be necessary). The next error is this:
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: oracle.adf.share.security.authentication.AuthenticationServlet
    Again, we don't get this error when deploying to the AdminServer - ONLY the managed server CollabServer.
    web.xml:
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>adfAuthentication</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>oracle.adf.share.security.authentication.AuthenticationServlet</servlet-class>
    <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>adfAuthentication</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/adfAuthentication/*</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    I then added some adf jar files to the ear file, finally get this error message:
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: oracle.adf.share.jsp.ADFLibUtils
    Any ideas on how to resolve this? Thanks.

    Dan,
    thanks fro reminding me :-)
    Here are the steps we had to take to get a managed WLS to run an adf application without copying any jar in the domain/lib directory:
    1. you still have to install the adf runtime to any server you want the adf application to deploy to
    2. open the admin console, select the managed server, and select the 'server start' tab in configutation settings.
    3. add /u01/bea/patch_wls1030/profiles/default/sys_manifest_classpath/weblogic_patch.jar:/u01/bea/patch_jdev1111/profiles/default/sys_manifest_classpath/weblogic_patch.jar:

    /u01/bea/patch_wls1030/profiles/default/sysext_manifest_classpath/weblogic_ext_patch.jar to the classpath edit box you have to change '/u01/bea/' with your bea home. The classpath should be on one line without the CR/LF i put in to make it readable.

As whith the classpath I put some CR/LF into the code section to make it readable.
    5. save the changes and restart the server
    Essentially all we copied the arguments from the admin server start script in addition to adding the class path.

    Two issues now
    1) How do I get rid of weblogic from my machine manually so that I can do fresh install of 10.3.5?
    2) How do I confirm if it is completely removed because after doing the complete SOA suite installation process, JDeveloper throws me errors that it is not compatible with 10.3.6
    Appreciate your help in this regard

    Hi
    I am glad your original issue is resolved. For this new SOA installation, you can post a new thread and preferably in SOA Forums and not here in WLS Forums for quicker response: SOA Suite
    1. To begin with, looks like you have a 64 bit machine, so I would recommend first to install 64 bit JDK. Then install Weblogic using weblogic generic installer (.jar). This means if you already have WLS installed using .exe, you may have to delete that and start over.
    2. Worst case even if you want to continue as it is (32 bit), the location of java is kind of not ok having a space in one of the folder names like "Program Files". And is this java installed by you or did it came with machine and if so. If came with machine it will be older version.
    I would recommend, uninstall existing JDK and install fresh latest JDK in a path something like shown below that do not have any spaces:
    1. C:\Oracle\Java\jdk1.6.0_24_64Bit = Will have JDK 64 bit
    2. C:\Oracle\Middleware116BPM = Will have WLS 10.3.6. Here you install SOA later on
    3. C:\Oracle\Middleware\Jdeveloper116 = Will have JDeveloper 11.6 installed here.
    Now, coming to your actual installation error, do NOT use this command "setup -jreLoc %JAVA_HOME%". Instead just double click on Setup.exe or open a dos window, navigate to that folder and just type setup.exe. The point is do not give -jreLoc. NOW it will prompt to enter full JDK Path. Here you carefuly type full jdk path something like this "C:\Oracle\Java\jdk1.6.0_24_32Bit" (this is on my side...). It should work now.
    Caution. While installing any oracle software do not use folder names with spaces. Like c:\Program Files\ etc. Spaces in folder names may be an issue. So avoid that.
    Since you are starting all this fresh, I would recommend doing it in the right and correct way to avoid any future issues. It may take few hours of extra time that is totally worth.

  • Deployment Manager Error with Oracle Weblogic Server 10.3.1

    I have installed Identity Manager 9.1.0.2 (patch upgraded from 9.1.0.1) on OEL 5.3 64bit and Weblogic 10.3.1
    Database:Oracle 11gR2 (remote machine).
    **I am aware that IM 9.1.0.2 is not certified on Weblogic 10.3.1 (it is only certified on 10.3),
    The installation was successful and OIManager is up and running. Able to create Users, Resources etc. as well.
    As part of configuring OIM Connectors tried to Import .xml file using Import option from Deployment Management section as below and the following error was displayed.
    "Either your session timed out or you are trying to access a page without logging in".
    Did all workarounds like enabling java, changing browsers, restarting machine etc as per the below discussion but in vain.
    Deployment Manager Error with Oracle Weblogic Server
    Can any one suggest any workaround or solution for this problem.
    Or atleast can any one confirm there is no Identity manager available on this date which is compatible with 10.3.1? and cannot be continued further.
    Thanks in Advance

    You are facing this issue because you're using a non certified combination.
    Other folks who tried to use OIM in 10.3.1 ended up in the same problem you're facing.

  • Discoverer Road Map

    I am currently evaluating oracle BI products for my company.
    Having looked at BI Beans and Discoverer it seems that they use different metadata definitions (MDD). BIB use Oracle OLAP who's MDD is defined using OEM (v1) or the CWM2_ packages (v2) whereas Discoverer uses its Administrator client tool to define its MDD the End User Layer.
    So, as things stand, it looks as though two MDDs are required. Is this correct? If so, what is the road map going forward? In particular, will the technologies converge? at least as far as MDDs are concerned.
    Thanks in advance for your intput.

    The upcoming release of Discoverer, which will be available with Oracle Application Server 10.1.2 will support query and analysis on relational data and OLAP data.
    When you create the multidimensional structures in Oracle OLAP, you use the OLAP Catalog. All tools and applications use this, including Discoverer. Discoverer does not require any extra work to utilize the Oracle OLAP option.
    As always, Discoverer allows you to create a business meta-layer to protect end users from the complexity of the database. This is the End User Layer, and is used for Relational data.
    Discoverer Plus (to create queries, analyze, drill down, format, etc) and Discoverer Viewer (analyze, drill down, format) can both drill down, and will support drill to detail, including drill from OLAP to Relational.
    The 10.1.2 version will also have powerful customization functionality through Portal, which means one worksheet can satisfy many many users. For example... three people authenticate to Portal and all see the same Discoverer portlet. One of them changes the graph to a pie, the second drills on something to another level and the third person changes the layout and add some conditional formating. Each saves their changes back to the Portal. The next time each logs in, they see their own changed version of the portlet, not the original.

  • Setting up weblogic server. for multiple developers.

    Hi All,
    i am trying to setup/configure weblogic server. we have a situation, we
    have about ten developers primarlily working on JSP's and other set working
    on EJB's. we want to set the server up in such a way that all the JSP
    developers can access off the developement server, and all the EJB
    developers will work independently on other server and update the
    development server once every evening. how can we achive this, the only way
    i could think was to map the drive on to all the developers.
    i wanted to know what other approaches are feasible and what is the
    development envirments (IDE's )are helpful for remote debugging of EJB's
    etc..,
    any suggestions or any of your experiences please let me know.
    Thank you,
    Diwakar.K

    This is a typical problem for a revision control system, but anyway:
    You could set up a multihomed environment where you have seperate
    application dirs for the applications running on the servers.

    In weblogic 10.3.6, when you deploy using console, you have to click on start button which appears in Deployments page.
    Your weblogic.xml file should be as below:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <wls:weblogic-web-app xmlns:wls="http://xmlns.oracle.com/weblogic/weblogic-web-app" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-app_2_5.xsd http://xmlns.oracle.com/weblogic/weblogic-web-app http://xmlns.oracle.com/weblogic/weblogic-web-app/1.3/weblogic-web-app.xsd">

  • Sending notifications from BPEL installed on Weblogic Server

    We have SOA Suite installed on the Weblogic server. For the SOA Suite installation, we did a base installation of OC4J 10.1.3.4, and then installed Weblogic server 9.2 on top of it.
    The problem is with the notifications. I created a simple process to generate notifications. Before doing that, I modified the NS_EMAILS.xml file for the Host and Port. I have done this before so I know what should be the values. Then I bounced both the Weblogic and OC4J servers.
    When I run the process, the notification is not generated. Do I need to do some additional steps to make it work for Weblogic?
    The ns_emails.xml file is located in product/10.1.3/bpel/system/services/config directory. Here is the portion of ns_emails.xml file that I have modified. Also, I can send the email from telnet and it works just fine.
    <EmailAccounts xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/ias/pcbpel/NotificationService"
    EmailMimeCharset=""
    NotificationMode="EMAIL">
    <EmailAccount>
    <Name>Default</Name>

    </GeneralSettings>
    <OutgoingServerSettings>

    <SMTPPort>25</SMTPPort>

    Thanks guys,
    I cannot see anything in the logs. It does show the email message (Like the email to information, subject etc), but no errors after that.
    Does any of you guys tried it with the weblogic server? As I stated earlier, I have done it for two different clients on OC4J and it works fine.
    I will check the metalink note. Thanks for the advice.
