Weblogic Singleton Service concurrent updates

Our environment has 1 cluster with 4 managed servers(each in a different physical servers).We have a requirement to maintain a cache which is transparent to all the 4 servers(only one copy is expected to be available at any point of time in the cluster) . This cache contains hashmap which gets updated every millisecond by clients performing calculations.This cache does not grow in volume overtime but has very frequent updates. We plan to implement a weblogic singleton service to handle this caching requirement .
1. Based on your past experience, Is weblogic singleton an ideal candidate for such a requirement. Does this introduce any delay because of synchronizing between the 4 managed servers? This will be used by the pricing engine and we do not want this to introduce any additional delay using this technology.
2. Also can you let me know what is the underlying technology weblogic(does it use IP multicast??? or do we have a choice choosing either IP socket, ip unicast or mulicast) uses to syncronize the data in singleton object with the managed servers.
3. Can I have this setup without a nodemanager as nodemanages are not allowed in our environment. According to what I read from weblogic documentation, nodemanager is required if we use consensus leasing only.If I choose to use database leasing, node manager is not required. Is that true?

After you have created a singleton service class using the SingletonService interface, you must define it as a singleton service within WebLogic Server. This singleton service object contains the following information:
The path to the class to load as the singleton service.
The preferred server and other candidate servers for the singleton service.
The following excerpt from the cluster element of config.xml shows how a singleton service is defined:

Weblogic clustering - share a singleton services without implementing weblogic singletonService interface

I have a singleton object java object in my application , when i deploy my application in clustering each cluster node creates a separate singleton object thus data integrity is lost. More over I am not in a position to change any of my code with specific to web-logic and implement any third party library such as teracotta.
Can any one help me out of it in how to maintain the data integrity between the cluster nodes . Thanks in Advance

I'm not sure if singleton services works with stateless session beans. By other hand, I understand as follow:-
1. After you have created a singleton service class using the SingletonService interface, you must define it as a singleton service within WebLogic Server, see http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E1284001/wls/docs103/ConsoleHelp/taskhelp/clusters/ConfigureSingletonService.html_
2. A singleton service is a service (application) on a cluster that is available and active on only one server at any given time, you must deploy the service on only one member of the cluster.
3. For high avalability, you must implement WebLogic Service Migration for your singleton service, see http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E1284001/wls/docs103/cluster/service_migration.html#wp1051458_
4. The clients connecting to the service, you must implement a special mechanism. See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E1322201/wls/docs81/jndi/jndi.html#475689_

ERROR: could not serialize access due to concurrent update

Hi.
I use ejb+glassfish+postgres in my project.
The project is a web application for finansial data transfering.
I have three DBs, long global transactions, serializable isolation level, container-managed transaction.
When i test the project with concurent threads, i get an exception: "ERROR: could not serialize access due to
concurrent update"
I read that when you get suck kind of error, your program must rollback current transaction and then reply this transaction.
what do i need to do to complete this transaction? :
1) rollback and reply transaction
2) maybe, the are other ways to reply transaction (for example: glassfish configurations, ....)

If your DAO is nicely separated from your service layer as it should be then the solution I suggested above works and doesn't require you to change many classes because you can catch the expection in the DAO layer and do the retry in the DAO layer. That's where the solution belongs too because it's only applicable for your current database solution (Postgres). i.e If you change your database solution you need to change your DAO anyway, but only your DAO. If you put the solution in your service layer (or client layer) then you need to change those layers when you change your database solution which defeats the purpose of the separation.
If you still want the interceptor approach, you need to check if the transaction has been marked for rollback back, then you need to join the transaction with EM.join and from there you attempt to close and discard the joined transaction before starting another one to invoke the retry operation on. Bear in mind that you only do the rety when the transaction was marked for roll back because of that specific exception. Needless to say that this doesn't seem to be a clean way to handle your transactions (if you can get it to work that is).

          In order to create and deploy a singleton service on WebLogic 92, I did exactly as the book said (http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs92/cluster/migration.html#wp1045262). But it didn't work.
          So I wish to find a tested example (all required files), or an artical that describes the whole process of creating and deploying a singleton-service, with one of you.

I tried to create singleton service by implement SingletonService interface which provided by weblogic.
And configure singleton service in
weblogic-application.xml file.
And define singleton service in
environment->cluster->singleton service tab in weblogic console.
I used to create Singleton service instance like such a way

(SingletonServiceTest)SingletonServicesManager.
getInstance().
getService("SingletonServiceTest");
Problem was
SingletonServicesManager give the different singleton service instance for different server.

I have partial solution now:
For proper work of SingletonService, the servers (cluster nodes) must be run using node manager. Then SingletonService as pure java class works - methods activate and deactivate are called as expected.
However it seems, that MDB cannot be a SingletonService.

Singleton service/task in a cluster

I have a timer that schecules multiple task. This runs fine in a single JVM.
When I cluster using coherence does coherence provide any framework to convert this task to a singleton service so that only a node in the cluster executes it?

Hi Kumar,
Yes, WorkManager is clearly one way to do it. It is most useful when your tasks come from a single client thread.
In a scenario, when you have many clients in a cluster that may want to execute the same task at the same time, a concurrency API could be an answer. Please see this postas an example for using this pattern.

Hi, I have legacy codes from Weblogic workshop 10.1 and 10.3.....
I am able to compile and run in Weblogic workshop 10.3 by passing the xmlbean generated DocType as arguments in the web services call.... but why am I not able to do this in Oracle Enterprise for Eclipse OEPE......
If I were to generate the web service from teh wsdl...it will generate it's own DocType.class in the jar files and not use the xmlbean generated class one....

Ok just as I expected. So I guess I am left with the following two options
1) either I switched to using JAXB in my apps instaed of xmlbeans....
2) or if I still wanna use the old JAX-RPC web services to deploy on the Weblogic 10gR3 server i will have to create my own ant task jwsc directly......as shown below in your docs

How to prevent downloading wsdl in weblogic web service client

I get a problem regarding weblogic web service client. My working environment:

JDK 1.4
I use the weblogic tool to generate the client jar file from the wsdl file.

I find that this web service client always issue 2 http requests to invoke an web service method deployed in server.
1st http reqeust:
GET /AccessEpol/EpolServiceSoap?WSDL HTTP/1.1
User-Agent: Java/1.4.2_08
Host: 127.0.0.1:8001
Accept: text/html, image/gif, image/jpeg, *; q=.2, */*; q=.2
Connection: keep-alive
the return result is the wsdl downloaded from the server.
2nd http request is the real web service request.
The question is how could I eliminate the 1st http request because it's really unnecessary. I use other web service client like Axis 1.x, Axis client never has the http request to download the wsdl from the server.
I read through weblogic web service document. It do mentions that put saveWSDL="true" in the clientgen ant task. the default value for saveWSDL is true already. I did try saveWSDL="false" also. None of them can eliminate the 1st http request.

More or less I agree some points you mentioned above.
I did use Axis 1.x to test the inter-operability. The web service was developed in Weblogic 8.1 and is a part of an existing web application. It will be merged to existing application deployed in weblogic 8.1.
I also program the web service client to test the web service.
The implementation of the server and client will be handed over the project team and training for supporting or continuous development have to be conducted by me. So I don't like to use two types of technologies which will make thing complex.
I found this issue when I tried to protected the web service endpoint, eg http://localhost:7001/epol/service, using the web application Basic mechanism. The wsdl URL http://localhost:7001/epol/service?WSDL is also protected in this case. Unfortunately the username/password pair is not sent to the server when the weblogic client download the WSDL from the server. In this case, the client failed and throw exception.

ORA-12505, TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor
The Connection descriptor used by the client was:
localhost:1521:SERVICENAME

Problem
database url is generated based on SID
eg: jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:SID
Solution
(generate seperate url for SERVICE NAME)
jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521/SERVICENAME

It is so clear: host not found error for network connection and the other SID servcie name not found means your oracle instance name is not up. check with srvctl status for given servcie name or node, else check CRS_Stat -t if you are using RAC.

Sending WSSE security headers to non-weblogic web service

I have been trying to send wsse headers to a non-weblogic web service. I am looking for a way to do this using the control file I generated from the wsdl or the page flow where I implement the control, or the message handler file. I have username and password parameters but I cannot get this to function.
Here is the signature I need:

Of course the Body is different, but this is the security signature that I need to get into the header. After looking at all the examples, I only see the option of using a java proxy class to call the web service, which would be a little difficult to use as my whole page flow application so far is calling the web service from a generated control. There are also lots of coplex datatypes that are being sent to the web service so a jave proxy would be a little difficult. I have tried to take the code from the java proxy class example and put it in my handler class, but the handler seems to only use MessageContext, not WebServiceContext and will not let me add the username password tokens. When I have tried to case a WebServiceContext out of a MessageContext, it gives me a runtime error "Class Cast Exception" even though workshop lets me do it.
This is extremely urgent. Please help me! I am using the sample handler class called MessageHandler.java and the sample WSSE java proxy class called WebServiceBClient.java that generated the above signature.

I tried to use the MessageContext to do this but it came out null. I tried to cast the MessageContext to WebServiceContext and it gave me a Class Cast Exception. I tried to add the HandlerRegistry section to this but of course the assignment mc.getHandlerRegistry is improper and is not compiling so don't let that confuse you.

I am trying to think of how to authenticate a client to a weblogic web service
using a client certificate. The wrinkle is that a Web Server (iis or whatever)
will be handling the ssl part and forwarding non-secure to weblogic. The cert
will still be accessable in the request using: HttpServletRequest req.getAttribute("javax.net.ssl.peer_certificates).
At this point it is not clear to me what I can do. When does CertAuthenticator
get called? Can I even use it? Will I have to write my own version of the weblogic.soap.server.servlet.StatelessBeanAdapter
class?
Any help will be appreciated, even explaining why it can't be done.
